  1. Happy B'day Viv! 23 again, right?
  2. Yes, with the Happy Birthday, and all of it.
  3. You want to kill all the AVs in a single mission map for one part of an intro arc?
Do you think there might be one or two people out there who might take great pleasure in handing LR his $$$ after he's done it to so many, so often? Or just Brawl the Crystal Titan to death, for the sheer of it? Just a little?

That amount of exposition 'through the mission itself' would require an entire TF... to unlock a feature?

You don't like the final fight - but you said you like beating up challenging AV's in the very first sentence?? Reason: Because he fights you and tries to kill you?

This is not the best arc in the game, by any means. And I agree with the prior comment that the zoning is a bit annoying. But hey, is it the worst? Nope. Is it worth kvetching over? Whatever floats your boat. It takes some time, some effort, soloing it is a challenge, it could have been done better, or differently. But I'm done trying to explain to people who are bent on hating it.

"Unlocking" an ability is often about LEARNING about some or all of the following: its history, its traditions, those that have gone before in the field, in addition to DOING. Some examples of this I can think of: Martial Arts, Writing Fiction, Nuclear Physics, music, Politics (ick), cooking... the list is pretty much infinite. To get to the highest levels in these fields, heck, any field, you have to learn in addition to doing.

TLDR: Don't like it? Don't do it. Want the rewards? SUCK IT UP. Perhaps a new way will emerge in the future. Don't hold your breath - or do. It matters little to me.

The exposition is dull talking to either Recluse or Statesman.

The mission with Trapdoor is so far out of left field that it serves little purpose in the story.

The talk with Lady Gray is somewhat interesting, but only after you do a mission with poorly defined goals. The ever flowing portals can be avoided and still be able to complete the mission, yet that isn't readily apparent to most players.

The final mission is completely anti-climatic.

I find the whole arc to be a nearly forgettable waste of time.
So perhaps there might be another point of view...
The first mission - you get to have ALL of your powers MAXED. Not that anyone would EVER want that. Or that they would want to pound on most of the major AVs in the game with said power. Of course, the fact that it's both a neat mission and a somewhat disappointing mission (when you're that strong, no challenge = much less fun), might encourage people to stop asking for things to be easier? Crazy talk?

[Also, maybe people don't want a "kill all the AVs" requirement in that mission... can you blame them, on an arc that is to be repeated somewhat often?]

Dull talking exposition: Hmm. Complex stories need explanation, don't they? Or would you rather every mission be "Go. Hunt. Kil Skulz."? I love me some Bugs Bunny, but Stephen King writes some pretty neat stuff too...

Trapdoor: So you want new content, but the trapdoor mission is not to your liking? An your reason is that it's so different it's... different?

The Lady grey mission is... not laid out for you step by step? Seriously? This is not AE. This is, you know, City of Heroes. Did you know exactly what to do the first time you ran the LGTF? Did you know that you don't really have to drop all 4 towers to kill LR the first time you ran the STF?

The final mission is anticlimactic - because it's not a huge long drawn out fight, I assume... would you mind doing that kind of mission with 15 or 20 characters?

Dude. Your reasoning is completely invalid. You're just seeking things to complain about. You may not like this arc, but I don't think you have expectations that are real in any world.

Sounds to me like if you had ever watched "To Kill a Mockingbird," you would have said you didn't like it because there weren't enough explosions, and that Gregory Peck wasn't 'manly' enough. Stupid lawyer.

Well, I would guess that there are may American-use slurs that I'm sure are used by people in other countries who don't know the meaning in our culture, and we would be appalled at their use. Being PC is not about being 'correct' or 'proper', it's about having a little empathy and being sensitive to the world in which one lives.

If you feel like you want to offend people on purpose, well, good luck to the friends you may have used to have in the future*.

(* - Now there's an example of the potential difficulty of the use of verb tense in Time Travel!)

Well, to be fair, (re: Rick panicking) on one hand I agree completely; on the other, it was his push to come here, his hopes were apparently high, then when he gets there, the door is not only closed, but someone is apparently inside actively watching them. Might send a lawman (who is probably somewhat accustomed to being able to command a modicum of acquiescence) a little batspit.

Of course, what I was actually thinking during the panic in question was, "Dude, the building is BIIG. You're not in imminent danger. CHILL. There might be another way in, dummy! GO AROUND!"

And to (Quiet American, if I recall correctly), re: talking^8, I really LIKE the talking. Too many people insist that DOING is the most important thing, "DO SOMETHING NAO!" But in this kind of situation, each decision could very well be LIFE or DEATH, for ALL of them. [I recall the mushroom incident - (paraphrasing) -"There's only one way I know to figure out if it's poisonous..."]

So while it is dramatically less interesting to the viewer, it seems more real that in any plan as vital as these plans are, you'd spend 90% talking/thinking about it, then the rest of the time actually carrying out the plan.

And I recall a favorite movie of mine that is 90+% talking to my recollection - "The Green Mile." Also, come to think of it, "The Shawhank Redemption" is similar... In fact, if I didn't know any better, knowing Darabont direct... NM, just found out that Darabont actually wrote those, so THAT makes sense. LOL at me, just don't point .
  10. Here are some random thoughts re Dr. CDC: (sorry if repeating, haven't read the whole thread)
-He created the original vaccine, and feels guilty for (killing all of the CDC staff, and everyone else)
-He is immune - thus his unconcern for himself getting infected when his protective gear gets compromised

Just some thoughts. I am enjoying the show, though they fall back on some annoying survival-movie tropes (some unnecessary splitting up, some unnecessary panics...) though less often than most of this genre. I'm looking forward to more.
  11. While I can see that the amount of snark is reaching critical mass, and will soon explode in some sort of Sarcasmagasm, I must agree that Cleb, you are just wanting to hate for the sake of hate. Whatever.

If you plan on going thru life being morally opposed to doing things you have to do to get things you want to get, GLHF. (The term, nearly always applied in cases MUCH more extreme than this, is "Paying your Dues." You may or may not be familiar.)

Let's analyze a few basic games we all might be familiar with, which would fail under your rubric of not having to do stuff less than directly related to the thing you are trying to actually get:

Football. You have to advance the ball 10 yards to get within 4 tries, which then allows you to repeat the same process, in order to eventually score a touchdown. FAIL.

Baseball. You are required <GASP!> to go to first base BEFORE <REGASP!> going to 2nd base, then third, then home to score a run. FAIL.

Hopscotch**: You must step on the first square (eek!) then the second, each with the same foot, then simultaneously (OMG!) with both feet on the 3rd and 4th squares, continuing in a likewise manner until reaching the final square...<snip> FAIL.

Running. You must place your left foot on the ground, then the right foot in front,
(these may be interchanged at will), increasing the speed therewith, advancing forward. (apologies to any disabled people who may have those cool tech devices that let you run without one or both said feet.) FAIL.

Which of these games, if any, do you have a problem with?

Does this argument make any sense, that paying a small price for a big benefit is relatively harmless and a reasonable request to make of a player? Can you think of any other video games that require similar things? Pong, for instance? How about every adventure game ever written? Am I taking Crazy Pills???

** - please note, I am very unskilled at this particular game, and apologize to any professional Hopscotchers/Hopsceetch/Hopscootcherie for any errors in expressing its basic strategy and tactics.

May I ask what is your idea of a positive gaming experience?

    Bacony Goodness!

I like the Bendy Bacon - he reminds me of Eddie Murphy's Gumby character on SNL years ago... I wonder how much "Saltier" a bacon version of that character would be <groan>.
  14. Dunno, and Mandu, you can add "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" to that list, among a buncha others I can't remember now...
  15. I approve of your suggestion. Nao Gimmeh Shardz!
  16. I heard this once - "It takes a good actor to do drama, it takes a great actor to do comedy."

Based on my little experience with movies, I don't immediately recall a great actor who wasn't good at comedy when they had a chance to try it.

The Daily Show ran a favorite line of mine last night in a clip:

Frank Drebin: Thats a red light district, what would he be doing there?
    Ed: Sex, Frank?
Frank Drebin: ...No, not right now, Ed. We’ve got work to do.

In fact, Tiana's an awesome character. The whole cast of Princess and the Frog was truly inspired, even if I personally feel the movie overall was not.

Side Note: If Dr. Felicier isn't elevated to a Triple A villain in the Disney-verse, I will riot. All by myself.

    Best villain they've ever written.

Well put, MT; in particular, Dr. F was definitely one of the best, evillest, scariest villains they've put together.
  20. Forgive my butting in, but if it's a less than 2B trade, and face to face, why wouldn't you just open the trade window and do it directly?

Agreed, I really liked that movie.

If they'd grown a pair and released it without those horrible scenes and with a PG or even PG13 rating, they could have taken their entire animation system in another direction successfully.
True, but I really loved this movie also. Fortunately, I don't have any children of my own to worry, so I enjoyed it in blissful ignorance. Also, I did not find any scenes in it 'horrible', and I don't really know which scenes you're referring to.
  23. You have chosen well to stay in the consignment house of Praetoria. Otherwise, some other Ebil Ninjas would stealthily steal your monocle and top hat, leaving you chapeau-less and eye-naked!

  24. Ok, I’m trying to wrap my head around this Panacea Proc. (It’s very uncomfortable.) This is what I found at the COHTitan site (link: http://tomax.cohtitan.com/data/powers/powerset.php?id=Boosts.Crafted_Panacea_F#Boosts.Cr afted_Panacea_F.Crafted_Panacea_F)

0.67000 Melee_Heal Heal (20% chance) If NOT on a PvP map [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]
    Endurance 0.07500 Melee_Ones (20% chance) [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs] [Non-resistable]

Trying to figure out what all that means: So each time I use the power, there’s a 20% chance to recover… how much in HP?

And independent of that chance, each time I use the power, there is also a 20% chance that I recover… how much in end?

(Brute character, in case it matters.)

    Thanks for the help.

    Your irony is noted.

However, when it is a game you're talking about, I think the irony is lost, and these become good words to live by.
