CM and Adrenaline Boost are lovely to have along too.
The Auras reduce downtime and keep everybody topped up nicely.
The Heals are the proverbial "icing on the cake".

I'd usually rather have a good Empath on my team than a good FF'er, if contribution from their other powersets were identical. A good Empath can get a team through virtually anything, and can certainly bring more "shinies" to a team than FF can. But it's primarilly due to their buffs, NOT their heals. Fortitude will mitigate a heck of a lot more damage over time than heals will, and it improves a team's damage output as well.

The problem is that there are so few good Empaths about.

I can count on one hand the number of Empaths I've met since joining the game which are capable of stacking Fortitude on more than two people at once. For the majority of Empaths I encounter on PUGs, I'm lucky if they have taken CM.

    Heals are Pants. Empathy Isn't.

    :-)
I'll agree on this, and take back my comment on emps - the buffs are indeed sweetsauce.

Also, I'm not sure why you would denigrate Pants. I happen to like Pants. And, if you were to see me sans Pants, I hazard to say you would find a new appreciation for Pants as well. Joey Pants would also take some offense.
  2. Just so more of the point of view is represented, I too agree that:
    a) anyone who skips two of the defining powers in their powerset is... off, and should most definitely have taken another powerset, imo,
    b) I'd much rather have bubbles than healing any day of the week*
and c) I really don't agree with anything magicj has said so far, and the evidence supports the case against him.

    * - only 2 cases where I think an emp/healer is quite useful to the exclusion of other powersets - Hami raids (because Hami specifically ignores defense and +++Regen is the only way my tanker can survive), and STF, because Recluse and his blasted towers, if I am led to understand that fight correctly. Otherwise, bubs are sweet, and so is logic and evidence.

Here is a good base philosophy. Working from here, we can all LOVE the Inf sinks, not LOATHE them.
  7. LGTF is one of my fave TFs. The MiniHami is a great mission, and I wish it was in more places in the game. It's really not hard, and I've seen this TF take as little as 30 minutes on a super-speed team. But generally, without shortcuts, it can take 70-90 minutes, if you don't go out of your way to kill everything. Bosstone speaks sooth. And it can be a VERY profitable TF if you take your time. Just remember, get melee, ranged, AND HOLDS. (at least 2 or 3 hold powers on the team that can be spammed is enough - even decently slotted Epic hod powers are enough).

  9. I am going officially on record as saying that whatever job Steelclaw has, I want it. Because any job that allows that much time to put together these awesome lists is the one that I want.

Also, in case I didn't say it already (oh yeah I did, nm ), Awesome list.

    Devs Top Ten

How about encouraging and/or not interfering with many of the 3rd party apps that help all of us play (ie, Mids, Map Pack, Splasher, Herostats, etc.) ... and Real Numbers. These make a fun game even more fun for me!
  11. What Necro said. Also, if that is he case, why not just give one character the power with one charge, like the acorn from the STF tree mission? I guess DC problems/etc. Still, 10 charges for each player, vs a one-use power? Why is that? Seeems fishy to me.
  12. 3) In fact, Praetoria could just be a giant Player-farm that the devs created in AE for their own sadistic pleasure. I think we ca

I love my widow. Definitely in my top 5 favorite AT's to play, and that's only mostly because I'm emotionally attached to those other characters. I haven't gotten to make the other 3 VEATs, but since I'm hearing they are 'teh awesomesauce,' I will get started on that.

In a Master run environment, temp powers aren't an option. And 'proper mix of powers' translates to 'softcap defenses, a Stone Tank, and a Rad'

    Talk about tunnel-vision...

Edit: That isn't to say that things shouldn't be difficult, or that everything in the game should be easy for everyone. Too easy = boring and uninteresting. However, a team of Tank/Support/Damage should be able to handle things.
    So should a Master's run be a No-strategy-or-planning-needed endeavor??
Should every combination of any powers always beat every scenario?

That's not really a game, is it? I think they call that a movie. A team of (all X AT) is a bad idea in general, strategy-wise. Same for (all X atttack type)... would you run a LGTF with all melee? Even with the Mini-Hami mission? Knowing that that is a losing strategy?

Many people would say Cry moar.

How about instead people just unslot the rare they have and run it like normal?
Although I wouldn't do it myself, I think anyone can form a team of their own and put any strictures they want on it. People are free to disagree and not team with that person, but they can choose to experience the game on their own terms. Isn't that what all this sturm-and-drang is about anyway??

This is what opens the door to both not being controlled and gaining even greater power.

The Well responds to "power" as said in the text, but this infers GREAT power, because what the well seeks is the strongest of all creatures irrespective of their morality. The well wouldn't and shouldn't be interested in menial tasks, and would most probably not be interested in self-imposed challenges, so much as acts of great power and progress. After all, what poses the danger of being taken over by the well for the Statesman is trying to increase his power beyond his already considerable limits. This, in turn, infers that where real power lies and where real danger lies, as well, is in surpassing your own limits, which isn't doable by imposing limiting rules.

The entire spirit of the Incarnate storyline is "be stronger so you can be even stronger." In this, it's practically Dragonball Z (part of why I like it so much), and for that to be restricted to a much lower level is like putting Goku against Mr. Satan - not much is accomplished, not much is proven, not much progress is made.
Pardon me for beign pedantic, but isn't the greatest measure of power the ability, will, and wisdom of knowing when NOT to apply it? Or is it just the one who can hit the hardest?

Here's what I'm working from here - real in game market experience over long periods of time. Based on the way I've played the market (and I know quite a few players who use the same tactics and strategies) - I have achieved control of many different items over time, I've continued control on some items for months at a time, often longer (in two cases much longer), and profited handsomely is and understatement.

    Two thoughts:

1 - Control doesnt mean I 100% control every piece that goes through. It means that I manage to flip and handle enough of the sales that I keep a consistent and strong profit.

2 - Limiting factors that would interrupt being able to do this simply comes down to resources. I don't even find luck is as big a factor as some have stated.

All I'm saying is that's simply what I've done in the market. I've consistently done what some of you are saying is not possible. I also feel that it's pretty straight forward overall. If someone tells you its not possible, but you go and do it and find it's totally possible, I would say it is in fact possible.

I also said don't bother with telling me whether you feel its worth it or not. Saying you dont find the effort worth it is simply telling me you either 1) are unwilling to commit to doing it properly, 2) dont have the resources to do it properly, 3) possibly dont really know how to do it properly. If any of those factors are correct - then your statements that its not possible are completely flawed. Because you arent able to do it for one reason or another does not mean something is not possible.

I think i'll leave it at that.
Yeah, if you have unlimited time, you can probably do it. I believe Nethergoat was likely including Time as one (of the several) criterion for determining if controlling the market is 'worth it'. But at some point, you (hopefully) have to [eat, bathe, go see a movie, get up from your chair...]. When that happens, you wil probably get some people sneaking through. And though you may continue to profit, you won't really be 'controlling the market' (ie, keeping sellers from meeting buyers that don't want to pay your prices.)

Just because it can be done, does not mean it is a worthwhile endeavor for a reasonable person. And if the market is being 'held hostage', so to speak, there are still several paths to obtaining a specific item on the market that do not involve the market (merits, tickets, etc.). So your 'control' is really just a self-imposed illusion, in my opinion.

That's just my opinion, with my limited understanding. There are experts on these forums who would have better information, and they generally (from my understanding) hold a similar viewpoint.

And that is exactly how it should be, Nether. For you, Time > Moneh. So for people who are (poor), they can list stuff, and you'll give them a nice Tip for being so kind as to provide it for you in a handy easy-to-receive format. Meanwhile, the Moneh flows from you (stinky-rich) to them (poor) in an efficient manner.

    It works, people.
  23. The way to fix the market: Gimmeh Mo Moneh!

    No, seriously, it's not broken.

Good post, Seebs. I laugh a little when I see people who don't understand Supply and Demand posting... about Supply and Demand.

It all comes down to this: Don't buy what you can't afford. (Make it in AE, make it with merits, kill stuff til you get a drop... you know.)

If everyone understood this rule, the corollary, You Can't Sell Someone Something They Don't Want, and the other corollary, You Can't Force Someone to Pay More for Something Than They Want To Pay, would be made clear.

Also, a corresponding truth would be revealed: The relative price of something is exponentially proportional** to the "Nao"-ness with which someone 'needs' it. Need it more Nao? Gimme Mo Moneh!

** - this may be a made up term. If so, (tm), and I'll only charge one purple recipe to anyone who wants to use it.
