    Greetings! I am a red-side player who is looking to branch out a little. I have 3 lvl 50 brutes, plus a lvl 45. I also have a 50 cor and 50 MM. I played a dom once to maybe 12.

    I like to play with my family. My wife is pretty good, but my kids are young and inexperienced. I want to play a foursome with them, and I've dabbled with a 4 cor team, but it's pretty tough.

    So my new idea is for my boys to play ss/fa brutes. You know, just pure smash. And I want my wife and I to play toons that can really make them as survivable as possible, so they don't have to worry about dying. To make a long story short, I ended up with both of us playing controllers, because we never have, they have the buffs we want to toughen up the brutes, and I want to play Mind and see if I can keep all the heroes slept on the RSF like a perma-mind-dom.

    So, leveling up I should mostly be with that foursome. The first goal is to provide as much res as possible to the brutes. Second goal is not to die myself. Third goal is to control mobs. I need some stealth that is closer to invisibility. I need to be able to fly. I need to have the endurance required to run all these toggles. I don't know that I need perma-hasten, but something close to it.

    I will be able to run tips on many alts to get A-merits to purchase the really expensive IO's. I haven't checked the purple holds and confuses and sleeps, but I don't think they are TOO expensive for me.

    Another thing to keep in mind is that I should be getting an extra 25% defense to all from my wifes plant/cold. 16% from shields, 4% from maneuvers, and 5% from arctic fog. /FA is one of the squishier brute sets, but with the extra 29% defense (from my wife's stuff and my maneuvers) and the 39% res to all but psi from me, they should be very durable to go with their high end offensive output.

    Unfortunately, there are so many ways I could go with this build, I'm not sure which is best. I am also not sure if I'm choosing the right epic. I like psionic mastery on the surface because I want some status protection from indomitable will, mind over body stacks some more res with my toggles, and world of confusion seems like a cheap toggle to go with my other confuse powers.

    I'll post what I've thrown together here. I think I've explained most of my choices. I still have 5 slots left, and some of them need to go in levitate and liquefy. I put straight res in the shields because I'm not sure what to go for there. It looks like I might need either cardiac alpha or ageless in destiny for the endurance.

    I'd welcome any thoughts, criticism, and pointers on this build. Thanks.

  3. On my wm/sd I originally went with physical perfection and cardiac for the end. But when I realized what Destiny - Ageless could do for me, I switched to aid self and spiritual. If you can get to T4 ageless, you shouldn't have too many end issues. That would let you get soul for gloom and dark oblit and spiritual for increased recharge and faster attacks.
  4. I have a few lvl 50 brutes - dm/wp, ss/fa, wm/sd, and a lvl 45 sm/ela. The /sd seems to be nearly as survivable as the /wp to me, meshes well with wm/, and addes extra damage from aao and SC. The active defense is nice to have too. I really like the combo. My ss/fa does more damage, but is much squishier.
  5. Ok, I tweaked it a little. The HP bonus in Titanium Coating is the same as in Kinetic Combat, so I can only use 1 set. However, swapping elec fences for gloom saves me a spot. I decided to take that extra slot out of Combat Jumping, and with the gloom slot I was able to trade two sets of Aegis for two sets of 4 slotted Reactive Armor for a little more S/L defense.

    This looks pretty solid, and 40% S/L combined with 5.65 To Hit DeBuff from Dark Oblit should take care of me pretty well.

  6. I didn't read where there were suggestions not to slot for Fire defense. I don't understand. If I want to run a fire farm, 90% res to fire isn't enough.

    Also, I don't have the slots to change the Aegis to Reactive Armor, which would require another 3 slots to give me an additonal 3.75% S/L, taking me from 38.1 to 41.85%. Not exactly a game changer.

    More fire defense is coming from mocking, which I want 6 slots for the recharge anyway.

    I don't have any other sets for the fire defense, so I'm curious as to what you would do differently?

    As for the soul, do you suggest gloom and dark oblit or dark oblit and soul tentacles? I have gloom on another guy, I know it's good, but I want AoE, whether I'm farming or not.
  7. I know the forum is inundated with these things, and I've read several of them. At least I'm not asking what is a good combo to farm with, right?

    I plan on using this guy for incarnate stuff, tips, TF's, and ... yes ... some farming. I don't really have the coin to make a dual build, so I figured I'd try to combine what I like from farm builds and non-farm builds.

    I plan on going for Spiritual Core Paragon, which will have hasten 6.8 seconds from perma. I believe the FF recharge chance proc in footstomp will cover that gap.

    S/L def is only 38%, fire is only 31%, but so is melee. I figure 1 purple will be enough in a fire farm, and will certainly cap me in normal content to S/L.

    It looks like endurance might be a problem and I plan on solving it with Ageless Core Epiphany. This guy is almost lvl 48 right now. I'm using Superior Conditioning and Physical Perfection right now because endurance is a problem and I haven't done the patron missions yet. I'm getting close to my final respec, and I was hoping to get some feedback before I do.

    Right now I have 2 slots in Combat Jumping. I'm thinking that 2nd slot might be better used somewhere else, but I'm not sure where. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

    Oh yeah, this build has 11 points of KB protection. Is that a waste? Is it that much more important to hit 12?

  8. Roderick, I took a look at that thread and revised my build. I was trying to get out from under maneuvers. My take on the +3% def pvp io is that I'll just save up Vmerits for it. I think it would be worthwhile in that I could then drop maneuvers. I like the end cost vs. end use ratio of this build. I would have liked a way to put in aid self, but I only have 1 extra power and no slots for it anyway.

    Any thoughts on this revised build, and what power to throw in there?

  10. I have looked at the many WM/SD build posts out there. I'm not looking for a build. I'm looking for words that will help describe what potential problems I might face once I'm 50. I'm looking for advice more than a build.
  11. My WM/SD brute is lvl 37 right now and I'm having a lot of fun with him. I have a pocket ice/cold cor so I'm softcapped already, and I can just go around herding until I have about 10 mobs around me and then lay into the Shield Charge/Whirling Mace/Crowd Control/Shatter and watch them all melt around me. I love it!

    What I don't love is trying to come up with a final build. This is my first brute with War Mace or Shield Defense so I don't know what the end game will be like. I don't know how much endurance I'm going to need.

    Will I need Energy Mastery epic? Will I also need Cardiac alpha, or will energy mastery be enough that I can go Nerve for the extra defense buff?

    Do I go with fighting pool AND maneuvers? Is it worth it to save up the Vmerits for the PvP +def IO?

    Just doing a little experiment I find if I 3 slot all def powers with generic 50 IO's, including combat jumping, weave, and maneuvers, slot the two +3% def IO's in true grit, slot 6 Gaussian's in build up, 6 Oblits in Shield Charge, 6 Mako's in an attack, and 5 Aegis in tough, I end up with 46.3% melee and ranged, and 47.3% AoE.

    Is that a good way to go? It would seem if I do that it frees me up to look for recharge elsewhere, so I don't need hasten, so I can go Aid Self. If I do that and go Energy Mastery and Cardiac, and slot the Miracle and Numi procs, will that take care of my endurance woes? Is that enough AoE? I was originally interested in Mu or Soul for Dark Oblit or Ball Lightning but I've heard that will cause redraw. I might still be interested in that if Cardiac and the procs are enough to take care of my endurance, but since I'm only lvl 38 I don't know the answers to these questions.

  12. You are correct in that I don't use Touch of Fear much. It is mainly a set mule, with the idea that I would use it on AV's and other tough targets. The problem with that, of course, is that I guess those guys resist it quite a bit. I was considering switching to Dark Obliteration anyway, so this looks good.

    My question is do I still have enough accuracy? I was a little worried about that already, and this build has less than I was planning on.

    Also, I noticed you went with efficacy adapter, for the Plus hit points and 1.5% end recovery I guess, rather than use the performance shifter chance for Plus endurance. Is that 1.5% end recovery benefit really greater than the proc? I see that if I replace the end mod/acc with the proc my end recovery falls from 4.02 to 3.87. Do you know what the proc equals out to?

    Well, I found that I don't like resurgence, and I'm still not quite as tough as I want to be. I can play at +1/x4, but I think I should be able to do more. After some time working on it, I came up with a new build. I'd like to get some input before I implement it, though. Hopefully you guys can help me make it even better. Thanks.   15. I'm having some problems with Mids since I updated to I19. I get an endless loop where it tells me a recently downloaded update pack has not yet been applied and it has to restart. It then restarts endlessly and never gets anywhere. I have to reboot my computer to get it to stop.

    I deleted and reinstalled and it was working fine until I try to open a link from the forums and it starts all over again.

    Any ideas?
  16. Hello. Magnus Black here is my main toon. What he lacks in AoE he makes up for in survivability. I want to increase that as much as I can while keeping up my damage as much as I can.

  17. Thanks for the input. I've combined the advice from the two of you and come up with a slightly tweaked build.

    I now have 3 achilles heel chance for -res. Is that too many? I know it won't stack, but I'd like to make sure it is on whoever I'm attacking. I'm wondering if that is only nice vs. EB's or Hero's or something, which I'm not sure I would have the survivability to take on one-on-one, but I don't know.

    Is there any way for me to squeeze in some more damage without gimping the rest of the build? I only have 6.5% right now, but I have 80% acc.

  18. I have never played a stalker past lvl 6 so I consider this my first stalker. For whatever reason, I have suddenly realized that a stalker would make a pretty good ninja. I have ninja run, and ninja costumes, and the stalker AT has ninja blade and ninjitsu.

    Also, for whatever reason, I have decided that this is something I should consider playing, especially with I19 and inherant fitness coming.

    I have but together an end build I might use, getting recipes through alignment merits.

    I took CJ and SJ for defense and a good all-around travel power. I also took super speed because it seems like a good fit for a ninja stalker. I took recall friend because when I've done certain missions with a stalker it is nice for him to stealth to the end and bring the team there. I took Water Spout because I heard it was good, but I would be willing to change this power out.

    I put some purples in because they were relatively cheap (coercive persuasion), or make up for using an achilles heel chance for debuff and had only 5 slots left (SD and GD).

    This build is soft-capped with hide off, and hasten is about 8 seconds away from perma. It has two slots left over for stamina. It doesn't have much in HP/Regen/End Rec and I don't know how useful/needful that stuff is. I don't know if I'll be sucking end. I would plan on putting two end mod and the performance shifter proc.

    So, do you stalkers have any suggestions on this build that could help me out? While leveling I will take Sting of the Wasp early to help with my attack chain until I can respec out, so I do realize that this is a end-game build.

  19. I was using 75% fury. Your point is a good one about the heavy hitters being used at times when I have less fury. I might have to reconsider.
  20. One reason I am pairing the two /SD is so that I don't have to cap. So long as we stay within 15' of each other we will be well above the cap.

    I have fly in there for lack of any power to replace it with. I usually roll with SJ as my travel power, I don't want to use SS as my only travel power, and there is no need to combine SJ with SS. If I limited myself to one travel power it would be SJ. What would I replace the second travel power with?

    I see that I forgot to put a 7.5 recharge into either grant cover or phalanx fighting. When I do, I lessen the hasten recharge time by only 3 seconds. I wonder if it's worth it?

    At my limited level of 14, I don't even see a need for stamina at all. Perhaps it gets worse later on?

    In any event, I don't know how I would increase my positional defenses at the same time that I lose slots to put into an inhereint stamina.

    Finally, I see that a lot people say ELM/SD is stronger as a scrapper, but I just don't see it. I loaded the same build into Mid's as a scrapper and as a brute, and the damage totals were pretty close. Do criticals really make that much of a difference? Enought to offset the extra 200 hps or so that a brute will have?

  21. I've got a new duo with my wife. I'm playing the EM/SD, she is playing the FM/SD. The idea is to leverage the Grant Cover and Phalanx Fighting abilities so we don't have to spend so much to reach the soft cap.

    I'm also working on one without the fitness pool in light of the upcoming I19, and the fact that I'm at level 14 now and haven't had any endurance issues so far.

    It might be that later I will run into them, but I'm hoping I don't before I19. I don't play a whole lot, I only expect to go up a couple of levels a week.

    I'm not super rich, but I do have over 1B infamy, and so does my wife.

    I'd appreciate any suggestions on my build, in slotting or power selection. I'm not using this build right now. I plan to respec into it some time later, maybe in the 30's.

  22. I have only leveled a /SD brute to 10 or so. I understand it is somewhat expensive to softcap. I don't have tons of infamy, my wife and I might have 2B between us. I don't want to spend it all on 1 or 2 toons.

    But looking at the phalanx fighting and grant cover powers, if we take those as a duo that would greatly help us to softcap without having to delve into so many set bonuses for it.

    With that in mind, I was thinking 2 SS/SD brutes. Once we get foot stomp and good recharge, that sounds like it would be quite devastating. But what if we ran up against an enemy that had awesome resistance to smashing? So I started thinking 1 FM/SD and 1 SS/SD. Probably still have enough mitigation with the 1 doing foot stomp, and the other perhaps doing even more damage with FSC and BOF.

    I also have renewed interest in /SD because of fitness going inherant, so I would have power pools for both fighting and medicine, if I determined aid self would be useful.

    So I am interested in comments about whether I should go 2 SS, or 1 SS and 1 FM, or some other combination. Once I determine which we'll go with, I'll throw some builds together and see what people think of those.

    The new builds adds 20% S/L defense, 80% regen, over 60 Hit Points, and .2 end recovery/second. I add shadow punch becuase I take away hasten, and replace SOW with TOF. This build would cost well over 1 billion inf, I think. I'm not sure if my dps would go up or down with the new build, and I'm not sure if it is worth it.

    Between all my toons, I might have between 1.5 and 2 billion inf. I'm leveling up a SM/ELA brute that will obviously do a lot more AoE damage than Magnus, and I'm thinking I might should save all the money for him.

    What are your thoughts? Do you have suggestions that could make this new build better and/or cheaper? Is it worth it? Should I save the inf for the SM/ELA?

  24. I got my claws/elec to lvl 33. Didn't enjoy it. Gave up on it. I have a SM/ELA at 24 that is a lot more fun. For me, /ELA is squishy and really needs a primary that has some mitigation, which I why I tried SM/. SM/ works a lot better for me than claws did.

    Why /mu and not /soul?

    With soul tentacles, you get an immobilize power that still lets footstomp do it's knockdown, so isn't that better than electric fences? And I also thought that gloom is better than mu lightning. So that leaves ball lightning as maybe being a little better than dark obliteration, but with the other two, particularly no knockdown prevention in soul tentacles, doesn't /soul work a little better than /mu for this combo?

    I guess if you're not using lightning field and just taking mu lightning and ball lightning that comes out fairly equal to gloom and dark obliteration.

    I've never farmed with a SS/Fire, so I don't know. I'm curious, though.
