    Frustration...

I feel it isneccasary to clear up that I was refering to a specificpost and not generaldisagreement when I said something about personal attacks.
Namecalling with profanity IS forbidden by policy on the boards and will get a thread locked. , I am simply trying to nip it in the bud.

The problem remains... microtransactions that aren't micro
Tons of new content locked behind new currencies, but farming is bad mkay...
Its a lot of mixed signals and messages.

Give us what we pay for, good service, new content every so often, and we are happy, messs with the well to much and you risk fouling the water as my grandfather would say.

    Frustration...

A note on personal attacks in message board forums... once you make a personal attack, or call someone a name, I ignore your points, all of them, made previously or post the attack... in that discussion, Ever.

The primary concern is the perfect storm conditions they are creating among certain divisions of my friend group. Between the f2p "upgrade" the market charging for every new costume piece, even ones we had previously though to get for free, (I'm looking at you CoT), and now nerfs to what is in my friend group a major undertaking and hobby, you have to realize that it is Driving away a portion of the player base. Any portion of the player base, RPer, Farmer, Maketeer, base builder, PvPer or whatever combination there-in are all equally legitimate in my view, so why aren't we all treated that way by the Devs.

The second nerf to AE farms was unnecessary, MARTy was in place, and was suppose to be taking care of the problem yes? Well I had run those farms, since MARTy and we hadn't been hit by him, so the second nerf was specifically aimed at a portion of the Player base.

I am merely reporting on what I am seeing from my circle of friends who play the game regularly, but they are dropping like flies. Maybe your Right Grae Knight, maybe they needed the break anyway, but I have played since 2004, and this is the first time I have logged in and not seen a lot of the globals (like 12) that I am use to seeing light online.
That's disturbing to me. And when I also see an entire, massive movement by a major SG coalition to another game from Virtue, (Unknown Heroes, I know I know they're not popular, but they are a huge group of players) ... well that disturbs me deeply, and both groups cited the same reasons I cited in this post. Continued downtime, f2p/micro-transaction structure, and a climate of dev vs player rather then the community we have always enjoyed.

What I am asking for is a little sanity here. Look at it like this, the VIPs are your Gold Standard, we are the steady income, keep us happy and you keep the lights on. The f2p players are the flash in the pan spenders... they might be the ones willing to pop for the controller archtype, or the item on the market more often, simply cause they don't have 6 years at $15 a month invested already. The VIP Player should never HAVE to spend more then his VIP membership to get what he wants from the game. QoL changes, like the new costumes, new costume slots (which btw are WAY to expensive but thanks so much for teasing us with them every time we change costumes), and storage... all that should have been VIP free in my opinion, because the more you keep the VIP happy, the more he will keep playing. The longer he keeps playing and paying, the longer the lights stay on. Microtransaction might cause a slight increase in revenue for the first month to two months, but then there will be a marked decrease in subscribers,(due to people going premium, and players getting disgusted with behavior of Freemium players), and a marked decrease in willingness to buy, as the shiny new wears off the market.

Add to it a TON of downtime this month, which is no longer about "prepping for launch" as the Freemiums are here, but is about managing to move servers, and upload content to the store that should have been uploaded with the new issue (the CoT costumes).

I am not trying to come off as entitled or as if I am complaining, I am calling for sanity, and for us to get back to a community feel, rather then a me vs you, and a you vs the devs feeling. I don't want to be vs anyone other then the PvE of the game, (and maybe PvP, occasionally, in the right zone).

    So in closing,
Down Time Bad, New Mission Content Good
New in-game Currency VERY Bad, New Costumes Very Good
Store Bad, Store Prices Worse... New Powersets Good,

We all love CoH, it's why we are here... let's work togther to make it all good rather then having things that make the player base cringe...

For the record, I came in at issue 3. I remember days when stability issues prevented play for weeks at a time. AND I remember how unstable everything was when Villains hit. What I am saying is that ADDED to the new Freemium f2p, micro-transaction thing they're doing, they are driving away Old Guard players. People who played longer then I have or as long, on subscription. I have at least one friend who's paid up through then end of the year who is refusing to touch the game out of frustration to the changes made recently.

AE Farming creates Market Supply... PERIOD end of conversation. Without it you wouldn't have a buy it now market, they provide the VOLUME of supply to the market. No they aren't the only people listing stuff, but they are providing the volume of stuff that people buy now. Most farmers, are at least amateur marketeers.

AE Provides a means to progress my characters just fine thank you, and a lot of us find them fun. Just cause our fun and your fun are diffrent doesn't mean it's wrong. High Horse, you need to get off it, come back to reality there and think. We Farm for Inf, Prestige, and Tickets which turn into recipes... We bring along a friend's lowbie who in turn farms our lowbie later, thus we progress a character. How is it not progress...

O and COMMON salvage prices would be fixed with a MARKET cap as I proposed... Read in full please before you rage post TYVM...

I understand Maintenance downtime, as I stated, I am just asking for more warning then the night before as happened last week, some of us don't like getting home from a night shift and finding ourselves locked out of the game.
  9. elvnsword09

    Frustration...

Ok, I am getting thoroughly frustrated. I know that this is a big change for you guys at NCsoft, and I know it is a LOT of work. But really.

I have been unable to log onto the servers due to downtime, both announced previously, and snuck in with a day before announcement, more then 8 times this month. I work night shift, and so when I get home, it's 8am...

The occasional downtime for maintenance I MORE then understand, I work in Sat Com, but if we ran our signals the way you run yours servers we wouldn't have any Distant Ends, they would all go to a more reliable service, and I am afraid that is what is going to happen to my beloved game. I already have friends upset over the change over to the market system, the micro-transactions are overly expensive when compared to the days when we would get most of these same things for free, or even the days of the Content Packs for 9.99 are being looked on as a Silver Age... Everything used to be released as content packs in the Free Issues, a Golden Age for City of Heroes. Then things went to the Content Packs, and people cried foul. They decried as a slippery slop leading to micro-transactions and no more free content updates. I, along with many Old Guard told them to sit on they're hands and be quiet the Devs knew what they were doing.

Then comes the I21 update. EVERYTHING in a micro-transaction. I was proven wrong.

You put in changes to severely curtail AE farming, but then expect us to farm Incarnate content. You push the farmers down, then encourage them to provide for your market in game. It is a VERY mixed signal. When we horded Shards so we would be ready for the next incarnate powers, you curveballed us with a new currency (Threads), and basically made all those shards worthless minus a 1/day transfer.

These actions aren't the actions of a caring Dev Team, which is what I always liked about CoH (minus a couple occasions of not listening to us (ED)), was that the team always seems to listen to what we want, and need as a playerbase. They address our concerns and push forward to making a better game for all of us, which in turn brings in more revenue by keeping old guard players, and we word of mouth it to the rest.

What is happening now, is well a money grab. It is a bid to increase revenue quickly, rather then steadily. The Micro-transaction system in a f2p game might bring in more revenue stream temporarily, but it seems to drive away subscribing players, and if it eliminates free content updates I can guarantee you it will do just that. I don't know why you devs would be adopting such a foolhardy, shortsighted approach, but it is forcing changes on the game that not all the Old Guard like, and your losing your steady income VIP players, in exchange for potentials hundreds of micro transactions over a short period of time. We need the servers to be up, and the VIP players to feel that they're game is intact for the game to continue in the tradition of great service and community it has always had. F2P isn't going to kill that community, but the micro-transactions, and constant downtime will. Here's how, by having the servers down, we lose players, Old Guard who grow frustrated and leave for other games. I have already seen this happen in few cases with VETERAN players, some of whom had YEARS dedicated to the game, and others are threatening to follow suit. The Old Guard, your VIP Players, the SUBSCRIBERS, are the primary concern, and should remain the primary focus of your efforts as a Development team. Micro-transaction is great, but in the end, it won't keep the lights on forever, the subscribers will.

This is affecting more then me, I have friends who are borderline to quitting the game because of the constant down time. I know you went f2p, but I still pay for my access, please keep the servers up so I can be here with my friends!

I'm begging here, enough with the Downtime. I am not asking for compensation, or any other whiny, entitlement BS, just that we have our servers and our game back up and running. We need to get the community back to the supportive, great group we were, and the only way to do that is to encourage our Old Guard to stay, by keeping servers up, keeper service high, and letting them know they're VIP status is appreciated, cause right now a lot of us aren't feeling it.

So here is our list of, well desires, not demands, but desires:

    1. Keep the Servers UP!

    2. Enough with new Currency... in fact roll Threads and Shards into the same thing and let it drop like Shards do. The Empyrean Merits, and Astral Merits are crap too.

    3. Enough with the Farm Hate. Yes I understand Time/v/Payoff, but the farms are driving the economy for your game and without us it would be very difficult to keep things rolling. Not to mention while your trying to punish illicit behavior, a lot of players getting caught in the crossfire are innocent of any wrong doing. How is the Market a mini game, as has been cited by the devs, and the Farms aren't. Each takes a specialized set of skills, patience, long term planning, and both reap in game monetary benefits for the character. The market benefits a player MORE then the Farms if your looking at Risk v Reward, (lvl 2 player can sell his Tutorial Inspirations, use that as capitol and get over a billion in a week, it's been done on the market forums).

    4. We are living in a time of low economy in the USA, and Europe, your prime playerbase, so Enough Micro-Transactions, VIP Players shouldn't have to spend money for what would have been free content in issues 1-19. New costumes, new powersets, all that should be VIP Content automatically. If you want to Micro-transact the f2p players, fine, that's what they get for not subscribing. Micro-Transactions should NEVER EVER effect content for VIP Players. We already pay for our content, please let it reflect that.

    5. No more mixed signals. Farms should be ok. Even farms where we have resurrecting enemies. Yes we figured out ways to build toons to stand up to it. But now we have Incarnate Trials we are basically required to farm day in day out if we want the shiny armor, and powers locked behind Empyrean Michael and Astral whatsherface (I don't know cause the Servers are Down!). One minute your encouraging us to repeat content as much as possible the next we are being told that isn't ok.

In closing, please keep the Old Guard happy, we're your steady paycheck, your solid gold, and this flash in the pan from the Micro-transactions are just that, fools gold, cause they won't last, but we Old Guard, if you keep us happy, we would love to stick around for years to come.

    Thanks,
    Elvnsword
  10. @Liberties -> Liberties will be making a rare public appearance, (Rare on Champion Server, transferring over there for the event... )
  11. The devs SPECIFICALLY stated the Incarnate system was a VIP Perk... way back when the announcements about all this began, I don't know where this "Surprise reveal" attitude is coming from.

    VIP-only benefits, including:

The Incarnate System, where you team up with up to 23 other Heroes and Villains in epic group encounters, and unlock new powers and rewards.
Experience new VIP content (including the City of Heroes Going Rogue™ expansion content and new monthly Signature Story Arcs) for free.
Enjoy one free character transfer per month, priority queuing, and VIP customer support.
Gain Exclusive access to Exalted, a new VIP-only server.

Incarnates is the carrot for VIP status... it isn't a screw you, it is a "you know you want me big boy..."

  14. RPer from Virtue, my friends and I are establishing a "separate continuity" here on Exalted where rules we established in our RP have been bent to near breaking, and the Gods walk amongst us. (IE we all got the deity names we had been gunning for on Virtue for YEARS and finally get a chance to play a Deific SG)), so, Light RP is alive and well on Exalted.

As is Farming, my group is well aware of the need for farming to happen for a SG to live and thrive...

I am thus far splitting my time between the two servers... fairly successfully...
  15. @Obsidian_Light

    Ditto...

Also, frankly those of you among the "Want-It-NOW" crowd from the market, you know who you are... you have the Farmers to thank for your supply, without them the market supply would dry up inside a week... I don't think that the nerf to respawning enemies is so much as a nerf to Farms as it is to the speed those farms can run. It isn't the Devs saying farming is bad, it is the Devs saying "hey wait a minute slow down a bit."

I can handle that. I play a lot, I do Task Forces, Missions, I love the CONTENT of this game, but to play what I want, when I want, with what I want, I find that sometimes I farm... that sometimes has become, as Obsidian_Light has pointed out 3-5 hrs a night some weekends... but I also RP, I run a pair of fairly successful Supergroups... and I have toons that are built for things WAY outside of Farming.

I think it is important though to point out that everyone here, EVERYONE has farmed something... whether it be making sure you ran that Incarnate Trial enough to unlock your judgement power, or ensuring you got around to running the TF of the Week, you Farmed Content! What you all seem so up in arms about is AE farming, ok, well let me point out the Maria Jenkins arc, which most of those AE farms are based on. In her arc you can face a series of badguys in tight groups who don't run much, AND get the XP and INF for them, along with NORMAL rewards as well...

    This existed prior to AE...

As for those of you concerned with not being able to find AE arcs to play, for all the "Farm Trash" try searching for key words, like story, and origin... or simply look on the boards in the AE section for people putting up they're Arc numbers and asking for Story feedback!!!

    for example, http://boards.coh.com/showthread.php?t=271780

Now, the Farmers provide you a service, generally mind to themselves minus a few bad apples (the same could be said for the nonfarmers, cause we get griefed too), and mostly want to play the game they pay for the way they want... can we all just agree to get along and play a game we all clearly enjoy...

    Thanks,
    Elvnsword

  18. Long ago was an age of great power in the world. Gods walked amongst man, and in the last Age of Power were worshiped for they're strength and power. Risen by this worship from the forms they were born into, often enough mortal men we would today call Super Heroes, to immortality they ruled for centuries at a time in they're regions, leaving legends we see even today.

Such was they're power becoming however that the potential for any single God to unbalance the world becoming a major reality. The All Father Odin, Zeus, Quetzalcoatl, and many other leaders of they're Pantheons meet for the first time in Centuries in a holy place called Avalon. Great changes had come to the world, and greater ones would need to be made if Humanity would survive.

On the Isle of Avalon the decision was made, Mankind was too violent to be given the gifts of magic and the powers they had so often abused in the past. The loses to this new religion were massive, and followers were being destroyed merely for they're beliefs, not for belittling those of another. It was Odin who helped the Priestesses of Avalon craft the Great Spell to remove the Isle through the mists, and with it all vestiges of magic in the world. The Gods went with them, the creatures of the ancients went with them, and Avalon thrived just on the other side of the veil.

This came with a price, the balance was tenuous, and the power of the Gods would upset the spell and bring Avalon, and all of it's mirror reality crashing back to Earth. Thus they made a Compact, no God, nor creature in they're employ would step foot on the mortal world again, least they shatter into Shards of themselves. The exception being mortals, empowered by they're essence, called Incarnates. These Incarnates were unpredictable, and while useful, left the world of man in the hands of Man.

Those affected by the Compact are Gods, Angels, and creatures of magical essence, all these creatures whether they realize it or not split when they reach the mortal plane, they're power affecting how many times they split. Hence why you might see fifty people claiming to be Zeus on the mortal plane in this day and age. Each one may be correct in his claim. He might be a shard of Zeus, each with it's on variation on his power, and his own methods, and motivations.

Now we have come to a new Age of Power, and many chaff at the restrictions of the God Compact. Some leave Avalon for the power of worship again, others were summoned, and still others simply break the rules to break them. All shatter when they come here, they're power irrevocably limited. The disturbing thing is that as more and more beings shatter, the veil grows thinner and thinner, leaking more and more magic and power into the world. If it grows to thin it could snap, dropping the powers of the last Age of Power directly into the lap of mankind's current Age of Power.

This is further complicated by the Praetorian Invasion. The Emperor Cole's interaction with his version of the Well of Furies, and it's interactions with the powers of our world have caused imbalances which have lead to major leaks in the Veil int he last few months. Some Incarnates and Shattered entities seek to end the invasions simply to keep more damage from being done tot he Veil of Worlds. The Veil grows thin, time is being manipulated by someone ((the Menders perhaps)), and all those with Foresight have awoken to dreams of a great doom coming to the City. What lies on the horizon in this Age of Heroes?

Known shattered entities are: ((These are all core sources for friends characters))

    Judeo/Christian
    The Archangel Micheal
    The Fallen Angel Lucifer
    Lilith

    Norse:
    Loki
    Thor
    Fenrir Wolf

    Greek:
    Hercules
    Aries
    Hades
    Eros

    Other:

((This is an in character reason for the VAST number of certain mythological and magical creatures and characters. Each is a "Shard" of the original. Anyone who wants to can come add to the fun by adding the story of they're Shard, list the God/Creature/Id you shattered from and the motivations you might have that differ from the others of your original. We can also list Incarnates (who they're incarnating from if not from the Well, Statesman from Zeus in the old Canon for example), to bring the thing full circle.
I encourage everyone based on mythology, mythic/magical creatures, do they know of the veil's thinning, do they seek to stop it, or speed it's thinning?))
  19. Happy Birthday Voodoo Girl,
  20. I have a name held for a Dresden Files tribute character, and would love to play in this group, but the character won't be launching till Freedom kickstart (mostly cause I want him as a FF/Fire).
I play Liberties, the chief of Unified Force, a SG on Virtue based on a PPD concept as well, and we would love to have some cross RP with your Division sometime.

Hope to hear from you soon.

  21. 2.2-2.5B is above the carry cap, which means this IO has to be bought outside the Auction House?!

Wow... okie... Any other way in the game to earn this beast? ::laughs::
  22. Ah! I actually didn't realize it did that too... I thought it was a blanket protection to TP @ 3% higher then your base Def... ::shrugs:: Figures I would miss something obvious like that, no wonder it is so very expensive in the market. (Isn't that like a Billion Inf enhancement?)
  23. I find KM to be a fine set for what it is. the key to the set is Power Siphon, a boost that increases you up to five times, and it gives more range then any other set except Spines. It is AOE heavy, Range Heavy, the tradeoff is exceptionally long, some might say slightly silly animations.

I have a KM/Fire/Fire brute, and he works wonders... I do think that a Scrapper with they're ability to Critical would be an awesome choice with this set.
  24. Your using boxing... o.O
    and a TP protection IO?

Is this your PvP Build? ::laughs::

    ::smiles::
It is a great build, I normally don't use Boxing so I had completely not thought of using it as anything.
