I'm guessing you're new here.

With all the hoopla about the cool stuff coming in i16, I have to note that it says nothing whatsoever about anything in the way of new story.
Is it possible that the Devs see MA as a way of being able to sit back some on content creation themselves? We all know those quotes about how much MA stuff came out so fast. Could that be seen by them as some form of justification for allocating resources to other requests than new storyline things?
I mean if you can give people lots of cool stuff they have been asking for, while players are already writing plenty of stories, isn't this rather a nice situation for them to be in vis a vis resource allocation? -

Electric Armor FTW! Sapper? What's that?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think enough sappers will be able to hold you through your status protection. What I don't know is if they only hold after they are done draining. -

Am I the only one that leaves Sappers alone because they're not an issue and about as dangerous as a gnat? I'm more annoyed with the stupid gun drones.
Why yes, I do have an Electric Armor Brute, why do you ask?
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny, I was about to say the same thing.
In fact, my SOP with that brute while fighting Malta was to kill everything else in the spawn and then brawl the sapper to death. -
I think it's a good idea to make it known that probably the main reason I won't bother even trying Champions Online is that there is now a COH client native on the Mac, and I have no desire to run Windows in any way, shape, or form at home anymore.
Had the Mac client not been pursued, I likely would have at least tried CO. -

The obvious answer is that the devs post when they work, and they don't work on weekends. Fair enough. But why? Is it not possible for them to log into their redname accounts outside of the office or something?
[/ QUOTE ]
I avoid my work email like the plague on weekends. I can't very well imagine their attitude is that much different. -
I was looking through some guides and could not find the answer to this question. What is the difference between pacifist and non combat on an ally?
-
I only get a bug sometimes when logging in and retrying usually resolves it. Otherwise a restart will fix it. I did the new SF last night, and crashed a couple times, but nothing terribly out of the ordinary. I find the game crashes occasionally on loads. It will hang up during the load screen.

Heh, this is great timing on the Mac version going live. My 24" iMac arrives today just in time. Woo hoo.

PLEASE!!! say the bonus stuff like the mishn teleport and the wings can be bought as an add on for none mac users because that would be awsome!!!!!!

That was announced a while ago. It will be just like the robot pack. -

I personally work on and support both PC and Mac at work and at home. All of this is subjective, though, for those who like what better and why. Macs have a unique set of their own problems (especially on a network in Active Directory, or even on a network but on different sub-nets), trust me it's a devil of a lot easier to trouble-shoot a Windows PC than it is a Mac in that type of environment.
[/ QUOTE ]
So you're saying that the problem with Macs is that they don't work in a Windows environment as well as Windows machines. Go figure.
In other breaking news, the sun is bright, and water is wet. -

Finally! I've been running coh through bootcamp for so long, it's going to be nice not to have to pay for virus protection, the latest windows os (in addition to the latest mac os), etc. Quick question, I've been playing a character through a windows client for a few weeks. Will I be able to continue using that character using the mac client?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, it all uses the same accounts and servers. Just make sure if you actually purchase the Mac client (you won't need to if you have an active COH account), you use the code to upgrade your current account. -

Besides, when running a Mac client, we do not worry about IE 7 and it's vulnerabilities because Mac does respect your browser choice, unlike the "other" side.
[/ QUOTE ]
OK, fanboi...
1) IE7 has had less vulnerabilities than Safari (go look it up).
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh really?

I use Firefox on my Mac in any case however. -
Odd, don't know what to tell you. At the very least those piggs files will be transferable to the live version once the beta is over so you can spare download time then.

Please tell me there is a faster way to download the files. i have the app installed but it is downloading the files at 98 K/sec. this is going to take all night at this rate. on a 300K/sec DSL.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you happen to have a Mac which you've been Bootcamping to run COH, you should be able to cheat a bit on the size of the download.
First you download the Mac client from the site above. Don't run it yet, just put it in your applications folder. Then right (or ctrl) click it and show package contents.
Drill down to :
contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/coh/
Then go onto your Bootcamp partition and go into:
/Programs/City of Heroes
There will be a folder called piggs
This folder contains most of the bulky downloaded stuff such as graphics and sounds.
If you copy this file across from the partition to the Mac application location indicated above, it should speed up the launch appreciably as you will be spared downloading 2.7 GB of stuff.
[/ QUOTE ]
Any way to do this once you've started... i'm staring at another 10 hours of download after an overnight start
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, stop the download and transfer the files as I indicated. One of the functions of the installer is to correct errors against a checksum so the program runs right. Even if you interrupt the installation, it will fix itself. -

I have a reallu dumb question, so I'll proceed to put on my flame suit now. I've never used any betas or training room. Been running CoX on my Mac though. With us MAC users using open beta in the training room, will any progress be transferred or saved? I assume not, but just so I am clear.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Open Beta is on the real Training Room not like the separate test server used during the Closed Beta. As such, you can reasonably expect for anything you do on test to be kept on test for a fairly long time. I've got characters on test from back in i4 who I haven't touched since. However if you mean progress earned on test transferring to live, well that simply isn't going to happen. -
Rather little point to the disagreement after all really.
You aren't anal about being optimal. I'm closer to that point. No big deal.
Though I will say one minor clarification. Using merits on one alt to equip another isn't a bad idea or sub optimal. It's cashing merits into recipes and then selling the recipe that is. I fully expect to use a variety of alts to collect merits for purchasing toys for whatever character I decide needs to be all spiffied up.
Most likely my crab will gather merits to help deck out my other villains. He's almost fully decked out already, so any merits he gathers will be for others. -

I'm sorry, but will you guys ever discuss the disparity? I'm hearing Dr Q is down to under an hour now.

travel time is more than that.
[/ QUOTE ]
With Oroboros and other teleportation powers? I think not.
[/ QUOTE ]
What tp power gets you back into the shadow shard form founders?just loading screen time will eat up a decent portion of 1 hour.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are a total of six missions outside of the Shard on the TF. That's not that many loading screens. You could make an issue that 24 individual mission loading screens will screw you (not to mention all the defeat all missions), but the travel time isn't the issue. -
[ QUOTE ]
Again, would you like to support your stance or continue this offtopic banter? Either way, I got the time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, I'll sum up. You said that you'd spend merits to make things to sell for influence. I said that was inefficient. This is based on the fact that merits are a second form of currency, and one which is inflation independent since what you buy with them has a fixed price unlike items in the market. As such, merits are a lot more valuable to store rather than to convert into a currency which will be subject to inflation. As supplies of class C drop recipes dry up in the market merits will become more valuable, and influence less so.
In fact if anything merits are likely to be a deflationary currency given the likelihood of the devs adjusting merit rewards downward with the coming speed farming of TFs that now have good rewards.
It should be evident that conversion of a deflationary currency into an inflationary one is rather sub-optimal. -

If my initial comment wasn't clear enough, I probably can't help you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Rather then indulge my curiousity and constructively contribute to the thread you chose to be a sophomoric fool and troll my comments. Instead you could have stated why you disagreed with my intent to use merits to support my ALTS and how I'm incorrect in doing so.
Nah, that would require thought and less trolling.
[/ QUOTE ]
Considering your initial response was a snide comment asking if I was even addressing you, the faux outrage on your part is pretty unconvincing. If the fairly long diatribes by myself and others explaining why merits are best horded need to be explained to you again, it would be best served by you simply re-reading the relevant posts in this thread rather than wasting everyone's time by re-stating it all again.
As for thought, that is what you might have used initially so you understood the aforementioned arguments. -

For my characters that are completed IOed, they will use their merits to obtain IOs for my other heroes/villains. Or they will use their merits to obtain IOs and then place them on the market for profit or to obtain something else entirely.
They won't be sitting on them...how silly. You are a doomsayer, nothing more.
