  1. I saw the ad as well, but I reserve my mayhems for my villain group members as a free perk. To date, I have helped over 50 toons get their invader accolade.

    BAF Griefing?

My time zone is Pacific. I think that folks thought he deliberately bailed because there were 25 toons in the league when he said, 'I'm out.' That implied that he invited a replacement so the league would have 24 total when he quit. Also, some may have viewed it as griefing because there were 16+ melee and just a handful of support and control.
It is also bad form for the League leader to quit since it gives the impression that the league wasn't formed with success in mind. Folks want to succeed, so if there's uncertainty, some may choose to avoid it and take an opportunity elsewhere.
I put a '?' in the post title because it was such a weird situation and I wasn't sure if it counts as griefing.

    BAF Griefing?

It was late, around 1 AM, when I hopped into Pkt D for a BAF. I got invited to one and was surprised to find 1 team full of scrappers and another full of tanks/brutes. My toon ended up in the squishy team of corrs, defs, doms and trollers. When it was full, the organizer gave some vague tasks for the teams and said, 'I'm out!'. He left the league. Folks decided to drop and the new leader tried to salvage the situation. While the new leader recruited, the original organizer starts forming another BAF.
It takes time to form BAF and people were very irate for waiting around for a poorly formed league.
Thankfully, the new leader reorganized and invited more support to replace the ones that left, so we were able to run successfully.
This happened on Freedom, btw, so if any of you notice a wacky league setup like the one described above, beware and make a note about the organizer in your notes.

    Fastest ITF?

I agree with this. Components are worth 4 shards, so I'd rather 'shop' for components. Shards drop randomly, and you have no guarantee that you will get any. But the component reward is always there. With a good speed team, you can squeeze in 2 (or 3) SFs in 1 hr. Most of my 50s are tier 4 Alphas with 200+ shards from speed runs. Since I have the components, I don't need to do much conversion of shards.
  5. So I led a speed ITF last night with 3 squishies, including me. I specifically announced that the ITF was speed and there was a shard ITF also forming at the same time. Before I started, I mentioned that the ITF will be speed because I have other 50s that I need my notice on. Folks seemed ok with that so I started it.
After freeing 3 sibyls, I noticed that the other 2 squishies, both kins, weren't with us. So I TPd one over, hoping for some delicious fulcrum shift. We finished the sibyls and ran to the altar. Once again, the kins weren't there and one was dead. So I TPd them to the altar and rezed.
For the cysts, I asked the kins to at least keep the melee boosted, and they don't have to participate in attacking since the cysts explode and if they attack they will grab agro. As for me, my general strategy to stay alive was to eat lucks and debuff the cysts to make it easier to kill for melee. While doing the cysts, one of the kins said something like, 'if you don't clear the mobs, the squishies will die.' I wasn't sure how to reply to that, since it's a speed ITF. The team won't stop and kill mobs. So I eventually said, 'I have 20% def, so I just eat lucks and keep up.' I didn't die once during the cyst run while the kins died and lay there. The kin said other things, but I didn't want to argue, so I said nothing.
For the last mission, one of the kins kept dying a lot, so I rezed him whenever my rez was ready and tried to pass some of my lucks, sturdys and heals to him. His inventory was full.
WTH? It boggled my mind... why was he not converting all those insps to luck to boost his defense? Why did he have to wait for me to rez when he could have converted them to a wakie?
I prolly got a bad rep from the kins. It's a speed ITF, so I'm guessing they didn't know what that means. I suppose I could've slowed it down for them, but I only have a couple of hours in the evenings.

I'm curious to know what kind of defense these fire mobs and elec mobs have. It is possible to make really nasty things in AE, and the inverse is also possible. I've beta'd some arcs that make mincemeat of brutes other than stoners. I have compared farms that have S/L damage, and some are easier to do, but grant less XP, while some are harder to do and take longer, but give more XP. I'm guessing that the mobs in the electric farm are built differently, and that electric farm is more optimized in terms of xp/minute.

^^This as well. A fire farm may be designed for SS/Fire specifically.
  7. As long as you can get Prae missions, your teammates don't have to be Praetorians. My villain went to Pkt D, teamed up with friends who are mission holders and we leveled together. My vill was allowed to be trained in the Imperial city as well.

Ali, I did a search and didn't find your posts, so I figure the experiment hadn't been done before. Anyway, I'm curious, so I'll do it anyway.
  9. I hear some swear by bronze rolls and others stick to silver. So I'm thinking of doing an experiment. I'll cap 2 toons to 9999 tickets and roll 1 toon with bronze and the other with silver. Then I'll craft the useful recipes and sell them.
So I'd like to post a question to everyone. Which level range should I roll in? By default, I'm thinking of rolling lvl 30 bronze and lvl 30 silver.
Thoughts, comments, suggestions, flames? (well, maybe not flames...)

Why are you farming? For cash? To PL?
If for cash, several people have suggested the market. For 5-10 minutes a day, you can craft around 10 items and pull in 50-100 mil profit in a couple of days, depending on your niche.
If you have Going Rogue, you can do tips and get 1 vill merit every 2 days. You can exchange this for a Kinetic combat recipe that will fetch around 75-100 mil on the market. You can choose to 'farm' tips too by running +0 or +1x8 with bosses. Purple recipes can drop during tips. However, you must do it alone, otw, the recipe will randomly go to anyone on the team.
You already have a good brute to farm AE with. For other farms such as redside TV Lib and Cimerora missions, maybe an SS/Invul will do the trick.
Or, if you really want to be hardcore, try energy/energy.
If you prefer AE farming, then maybe do some tip/paper/other farm runs in between to change the pace?

I tested my stoner against Romans and he gets debuffed to bits, then faceplants. He does ok against nemesis and AE.

I can post my rad/kin if you want. It is a low cost build that got me through Alpha T4 and 3 Masters.

    SOs and SFs

    Hi All,

I subbed after the introduction of the set IOs, so I have no idea what it was like with just SOs. In the forums, I see posts recommending certain sets to be more survivable and then someone points out that players used to do such and such SF with just SOs.
If the game is playable with just SOs, how come people are spending billions on a build, and complaining about the price of purples and pvp IOs? I also see some elitism for certain TFs, such as only inviting IOd toons for a speed run. In one specific ITF, the team only needed 1 more to make 8, but the leader passed on several toons that broadcasted because they didn't have sets. He checks the sets before inviting the last one.
What happened? Were the powersets nerfed? Are the SF/TFs more difficult?
I love the crafting system and all, and I think it's great, but I'm just curious...
  16. Thanks for the clarification! I usually do respecs at lvl 50, so being able to do all the respecs at Lv 44+ makes it easier since the toon has more defensive powers at lv 50. Mwahaha! No more malfactor! Respec #2 and 3 here I come!
My corr had not done any respecs, so after doing the lvl 44+ respec, he got the Thorn Robber badge which I thought was 'only' awarded for a lvl 24+ respec. That prompted me to ask this question.

An alternative transport from Mercy to Grandville is by helicopter. New toons will arrive in the north base in Mercy. Behind Kalinda is a helicopter. Click on the pilot or heli door. Select Grandville.
When you arrive in Grand, run up the ramp to a wide street. Head towards Lord Recluse's statue. Near the statue is a jetpack vendor. When you buy it, you will hear a 'bing' sound which indicates that you bought it. If you don't see it in your tray, go to Powers->Temporary box. Drag the jetpack icon to your tray and you're good to go!
To get back to Kalinda in Mercy, fly over to the helicopter and select Mercy North.
In terms of power selection, I don't pick fly since I can use the jetpack and purchased the Martial arts pack for Ninja run. I usually pick Teleport for Recall friend and sometimes Superspeed.
  18. I'm under the impression that in order to get all respecs and badges, one must complete the trial from each of these contacts:
    - Sparcetriel
    - Trepsarciel
    - Ractespriel

However, I heard that you can accomplish the same thing by using just one contact. For example, doing the trial 3x by starting it thru Ractespriel. Is this possible?

    Thanks!

For your build, consider checking out the mastermind forum. I also recommend getting Mids Hero designer. With Mids, you can freely swap IOs in/out of powers and see the overall effect on your stats.
If you plan to play lvl 50 content, you and your pets need to be more surivivable and that's where set IOs come in.
  21. During my trial run, I created all sorts of MMs and doms and played them to 14. What I found was that I tend to like certain powersets better, so I pulled off all the loot on the 'doomed' toons and never looked back.
I leveled a stone/stone brute to 50 that didn't pass my longbow test. Instead of deleting, I shipped it off to Triumph during free transfer week to serve as a market mule. It is used to bid for recipes that I'll need for the active toons.
For me, it's more of an issue whether the toon's powerset meshes well with my playstyle and whether it meets my expectations for lvl 50 content.

Boo, I assume that you want crafted common IOs. These are under:
Crafted->Other. If there are none listed for the type that you want, try to bid on a recipe for under 200k:
    Recipe->Other->Invention Origin:_____
Common IO recipes can be bought from the University for about 300k for lvl 50, so your bids should be less than 300k. If there are none for sale, or you can't get it with 200k, just buy it from the Univ. and craft it yourself.
Did you do the crafting tutorial? You get a free IO when you complete it.
Set IOs should be listed in the appropriate category, ie Crafted->Range->Ruin. Click on Ruin or a particular Ruin enhancement type and it should list them all.
If you can't see any, check your filters: Level range: 1-50, for sale, and there's another drop down that filters rarity. I forgot the name, but pick 'All'.
    Hope this helps!

Redside on Freedom really does have plenty of people, but most of the other servers I expect its pretty empty.
I have 99% villains and 1% hero which I rarely play. I like the layout of villainside and the folks there seem more mature and helpful. When I was on trial account on my hero, people talk trash, make fun of noob questions and quit team on the first wipe.
I don't mind how I wrought my evil whether it comes from a boss or a scheme from the paper. As long as I smash and steal, it works for me.
Basically, it boils down to what is fun for you to play. Given my frustrating experience on hero side, I made my home (and base) on Rogue Isles.
I have villains on Triumph, Virtue and Protector. Since I lead teams, people come to me instead of me trying to join a team. On more populated servers, there's a higher rate of receiving more responses than there are spots. Even on less populated servers, I don't have trouble getting at least 5 people to join.
  24. I agree about frankenslotting. My first 50 was a dom, and frankenslotting helped keep down the costs. However, a speed ITF was really brutal to do with the dom, so I had to save enough to build up more defense.

An alternative to sets is common IOs. In some cases, it's actually cheaper to buy them from the market than to make it yourself. I think the commons are listed under Crafted->Other. Slot lvl 25 or 30 ones and you should be good to go!

Warning: Enhancement Diversification can cap for common IOs over lvl 30. For example, 3-slot Unstoppable with common recharge IOs.

    Common
IO level | recharge time | time diff | % of base change | % diff
    none___| 1,000.0 _____| 0.0 ____| 100.0% ________ | 0.0%
    ____10 | 740.2 _______| -259.8 _| 74.0% __________|-26.0%
    ____15 | 634.5 _______| -105.7 _| 63.5% __________|-10.6%

    ____25 | 520.3 _______| -47.5 __| 52.0% __________|-4.8%
    ____30 | 511.1 _______| -9.2 ___| 51.1% __________|-0.9%
    ____35 | 508.9 _______| -2.2 ___| 50.9% __________|-0.2%
    ____40 | 506.7 _______| -2.2 ___| 50.7% __________|-0.2%
    ____45 | 504.5 _______| -2.2 ___| 50.5% __________|-0.2%
    ____50 | 502.3 _______| -2.2 ___| 50.2% __________|-0.2%

When 3-slotting with the same sort of enhancement, level 25-30 IOs give practically the same improvement as higher level ones, ie, (3) lvl 25s give a 48% improvement while (3) lvl 50s give a 50% improvement; a difference of a mere 2%.

For example, if you upgrade from (3) lvl 25 common IOs to (3) lvl 45 IOs, expect an improvement of 520.3 - 504.5 = 15.8 secs for a power that has a 1000 sec recharge.

What if the power had a 10 sec recharge time? If you upgrade to (3) lvl 45 IOs, you improve by 5.2 - 5.04 = 0.15 secs. A whoppingly large number!
Anyway, lvl 45 IOs cost more, so if you're on a budget, you may need to rethink whether you want to pay a lot for such a small improvement.

    Some sets I use:

Decimation recipes - prolly 200k-500k each if you don't get lvl 40 ones.
Crushing Impact/Thunderstrike - 2-5 mil per crafted IO. Recipes around 50-500k.
    Sandman - cheap
Stupefy recipes - prolly 200k-500k each if you don't get lvl 50 ones.
Dark Watcher/Call to Arms/Expedient R - check the IOs. Prolly can get 2-3 mill crafted if you don't get lvl 50 ones. Recipes are cheap.
Positron - prolly 200k-500k each if you don't get lvl 50 ones.
Red fortune - prolly 200k-500k each if you don't get lvl 50 ones.
Adjusted Targeting - prolly 200k-500k each if you don't get lvl 50 ones.
    Defense: Red fortune, serendipity
    Resist Damage: Titanium coating
    End Mod: Efficiency Adap
Melee: Smashing haymaker, crushing impact, bruising blow
??? AOE: Multistrike, Sciroco's dervish (lvls 20-25 ONLY!)
Health/Heal: Harmonized healing, Triage, Doctored Wounds
To slot on the cheap side, I picked uncommon (yellow color) recipes. Most of my IOs are lvl 20-30. I only pick higher level IOs if I got the power above lvl 30. Note that the higher the level, the more the IO will cost to buy or craft.

Also look in Crafted Enhancements->Other for possible cheap common IOs.

How much can you spend per recipe? Let's look at the cost:
    Recipe_______55000___100000____200000
    Salv__________3000_____3000______3000
    Craft@lvl30___40000____40000_____40000
    1_slot_______98000___143000_____243000
    88_slots__8,624,000__12,584,000__21,384,000

From the above table, if you spend 55000 per recipe, your cost for 88 slots is 8.6 million. If you spend 200k per recipe, 88 slots will cost 21 million. The above numbers assume lvl 30 recipes for crafting cost. Note that lvl 50 recipes cost 500k to craft. So with 20 mil, you can only craft (40) lvl 50 recipes which is just half your total slots.

Since you're a dominator, you want some recharge bonus to get as close to perma-dom as possible. There's quite a few uncommon sets out there that give 5% recharge bonus.

I also suggest investing 20-30 million for marketeering. Hop by the market forums and look at Organica's journal to get an idea of how it's done.

    See ya in game!
  25. I started playing villains about 1 yr ago and was lucky to have gotten an invitation to a very active VG. For the first 3 months of so, when I lead teams, I get half of the team mates from the coalition and half from broadcasts/search.
Over time, I built up a list of global friends and also got invited to private channels for speed SFs and Incarnate SFs.
When I build a team for a SF, I ask my global friends first because I know they are reliable, and then the private channels. After that, I ask in the VG coalition. Any remaining spots are filled with responses from broadcast or from global channels. Since a lot of Freedom players are on the east coast, I can usually build a team in a few minutes until about 1 AM Eastern time. After that, it takes longer to build a team. Freedom becomes very quiet when the Pacific coasters log off, which is around 1 AM pacific time.
Several folks have made good suggestions and as a 12 month vet, I can say that all those suggestions have worked for me.
