  1. The I20 hype is a mistake. It was reported that it was for "new systems" which led to hyerventilated guesses.

The video of the panel clearly shows that I20 Beta is for testing the "new end game systems."

    That is all.

The Alpha Slot was already tested in I18 Closed Beta and that is slated to come out in I19. All the other slots have different mechanics and are attached to end game... activities which will probably contain new, neat raid mechanics (my guess).

Cryptic prided itself as being an independent studio-- an employee-owned indie. That was a HUGE part of the company identity. CO and other cryptic projects were being financed in part by the CoH sale, in part by the time-honored tradition of... well... a credit line. They wanted to avoid outside investors that would damage the independence of the project or the company.

Months before the market crisis, Cryptic acquired the Star Trek license & an aggressive development schedule-- a major gamble. Months after the crash- as credit lines tightened everywhere- we hear of one project cancellation (IIRC, timetable may vary).

Then we hear of Atari buying Cryptic.

To me, sounds like they ran out of their money and couldn't get a line of credit in the current market (as many can't) and sold away their coveted "employee-owned indie studio" status just to get enough cash to get their projects out the door.

(I also recall that the Atari buyout included additional money contingent on the studio meeting certain revenue numbers. Trying to meet those numbers may have also affected their decision-making on launch dates, and features-at-launch. It shouldn't, but there are plently of examples of financial considerations affecting artistic expression...)
But that demonstrates his inability to learn from the past, or, the inability to be honest publicly.

He and his whole Cryptic team should have known the cost of development.

First, while CoH was making money for them, he got development money from Microsoft/Marvel for the ill fated Marvel Online. Then he got money from NCSoft for the CoH IP buyout.

Then when the Marvel/M$ deal fell through, he trumpeted how independent Cryptic was going to be: self publishing, self developing, and with a wholly owned IP. It was at that point he and Cryptic should have known whether they could do it or not.

Then came the announcement of using a 3rd party publisher.

Then came the announcement of being bought out by Atari/Infogrames.

Either he lied about the value of independence or he and Cryptic were grossly incompetent regarding the cost of development. Either way... previous lesson not learned.

Over and over again: Previous lesson not learned.

    Totally and completely wrong.

Case in point is the quote in the OP.

When his new MMO launched, it was missing a lot of systems that they promised would be added 'later.'

Whether or not his point is valid, he couldn't live by the lesson he supposedly learn.

And that is quintessential Jack Emmert.

And that is why the usual derision.

The Alpha Slot boost only happens at level 50. Need to figure out what it will be at exemplared levels.

Speficially the list mentioned using Hami-O's for this. It sounds like I might be able to increase the the Intangibility Mag with Peroxisomes, but do I want to?
Well, it's not tagged 'non enhanceable', so, that obstacle is out of the way.

If it functions like Black Hole, then if you can sneak in a Mez buffer, it should increase magnitude.

It all depends if the 'strength' of the power is defined by its Mag or its Duration.

The only way to tell would be to copy it to Test and test it out. Have another player monitor their attributes in PvP/Arena with and without the HO in the power. Or, use a MkIII analyzer on a foe to see.
  7. I'm guessing it was probably meant to be another Jordan Air.

I like the photoshopped version someone had of the Jump IO replacing that logo.

Yeah, that's not true at all.
  9. Here a picture of the Jeter Clutch ad.

The tagline... might have been altered. A little bit.

  10. Actually... it depends. Mostly no, sometimes yes.

The magnitude Intangibility has been known to be magnitude and not duration for many powers. And KB is always Magnitude that is affected since duration is meaningless for KB.

A headshot photo of you is shown in the top right corner of the screen. Praetor White explains how you were investigating the Destroyers in Nova and eliminated their main base of operations. The reporters all burst into a murmur, making clarifications that it's, 'the (hero name) of Imperial City' and not, 'the (hero name) from Old Orlando'. Praetor White specifies that it's you."

They refer to Imperial City as 'Old Orlando' in some instances, it seems. Which leads me to assume Praetoria is located in Florida.

EDIT: Upon further inspection, I'm guessing that there's suppose to be a different hero with your name, hence the clarification. Regardless, the fact that they clarify that the other hero is from 'Old Orlando', rather than saying that he is from Florida suggests that they are in that state.
    Both interpretations are wrong.

You surmised your mistake with the first interpretation that the reporter's question was not asking "Hey, why aren't you saying HeroName from Old Orlando since isn't Imperial City Old Orlando?" But rather, "Hey, is HeroName the same HeroName from Old Orlando or some other HeroName from here in Imperial City?"

The second interpretation assumes that mentioning "Old Orlando" means you're in the same region as Orlando. The problem with that is that there is also an in-game reference to Old San Diego (where they claim Eddie 'Maelstrom' Polstra is from). And I think it would be difficult to be located in both Florida and California.

  16. Check out this thread, Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines

Please post the results of these two programs:

    • CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
    • HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.
This will help us help you find out if there's anything in your system or software impeding game performance.

    Double Trouble

The Hero Morality mission is widely regarded as being... shall we say 'weak' compared to the other Tip missions.

'Bat 'refuse' insane' have been other ways to describe the inscrutability of that mission.

Pray Venture does not find this thread.

    Bug or WAI?

Theoretically, yes. Was it thought of in Beta? I don't remember it being brought up. Not to cast aspersions, but most Beta Testers were the type to remember to take care of such things before switching sides.

    Dark Miasma?

Well, there's a question of proliferation, of sharing an already created set with different ATs who use the same type of power set. E.g., give Blasters Dark Blast and give Defenders Fire Blast. That usually only takes a little tweaking and maybe switching out a power.

Then there's the question of creating a brand new themed power set for a power class. Right now there's a Fire and Cold set in every power class: Defense, Melee, Blast, Assault, Manipulation, Control, and Buff. However, there's no Dark Control, Assault, or Manipulation. Electricity exists for each class except Buff. There's no Psi Buff and depending on your point of view, no Psi Melee (though many color and RP Kinetic Melee to fill in that gap). Other themes show up even less among the classes: Earth/stone, Radiation, Storm, Illusion, Gravity, etc...

Such new sets take *a lot* of time to do and are a major time sink. Devs need to ask: Do we do more of the same but in a new class (e.g., create Dark Control from scratch) or do something brand new (e.g., create Staff Melee)?

That said, I hope they continue proliferation... it is low hanging fruit as well as roll out a brand new wow-factor power set now and then.
  22. The Stand (TV miniseries version, didn't read the book)

Besides the fact that a scientific disaster (plague) somehow becomes a supernatural apocalypse (wait.. wha?..), everything the 'good guys' did amounts to nothing since God shows up and smites the bad guys the end.

God: "I give you the chance to take a stand against evil and show... no you're supposed to create a community.. no, stop that, don't walk into their lair.. wait, you're doing it wrong... nevermind! I'll take care of it! ZAP!"
  23. Base run speed = 14.32 mph
    + Old Sprint 50% (7.16) = 21.48 mph
    + New Sprint 100% (14.32) = 28.64 mph

    Base run speed + unenhanced Swift 35% (5 mph) = 19.32 mph.

So, basically, unenhanced base speed will go from 14.32 mph to 19.32 mph, a 35% increase and less than what unenhanced Sprint used to do.

I think the OP will be in a very small minority in thinking that's too fast.

    There's always Walk.

    Just for fun:

Swift + 1 Run SO and Sprint + 1 Run SO and Ninja Run = 72.07 mph

Fly cap is 58.63 mph and SJ cap is 78.18 mph.
  24. Well, if this guide is about powers that don't need extra slotting, then leaving out the Teleport and Medicine Pools is just wrong they're fine right out of the box.

If the criteria is usefulness and muling, then I say the Stealth powers are just as situational as the Teleportation Pool and leaving one out while putting the other in is illogical. Especially since you can get 16 POINTS OF KB PROTECTION with the Teleportation Pool without any extra slotting (Blessing of the Zephyr). Or, use one of those powers for 20% Slow Redux (Winter's Gift).
