Niice. Now the real question:
Will we be able to customize the powers? -
Not necessarily. If it would be a secondary, it could be melee focused. Look at Energy Assault. It'd probably have Build Up or whatever, some solid melee maybe attacks that might do stuns to help control, and then one of them could be an AoE spinning-kick-thing.

Quote:I still don't understand the hate on magic. In the Justice League cartoon series, a beyond excellent show, there was a story that focused on Dr. Fate, Aquaman, Solomon Grundy, Hawkgirl, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Pretty diverse and ragtag group of heroes. And they battled Cthulu or whatever it was called, a horrible and powerful magical beast that terrorized Atlantis and was responsible for it sinking. They battled it's spawn and minions, grew as a team, had a very touching moment with Grundy, and killed Cthulu itself from the inside out.The main guy is magical. But he's invading the planet with aliens and is using technology. Thus, the general aesthetic of the film isn't really magical.
Would you call The Avengers a magical themed film? No. Of course not.
Would you call Issue 23 a magical themed update? Yes. Of course you would.
Best counter-post in the thread though. And it did get me thinking. You can't really do magic in a superhero game unless it's a tertiary focus. Dedicating entire zones (note the plural) to it does make CoH just feel generic video-gamey.
This is a niche western superhero video game. Embrace that and make money ffs. Koreans aren't going to play this.
Replace Dr. Fate with Dream Doctor, Solomon Grundy with Scirocco, and the rest of the league with our characters. Now replace Cthulu with Mot, and Atlantis with Dark Astoria, and you have I22's DA story line. And that's just one big story that focuses on magic and the arcane in the world of DC. Marvel also has heavy focus on magic with enemies like Mandarin and heroes like Dr. Strange, just to name a couple examples.
So do you just personally hate magic as a source for stories? -
I still don't understand what qualifies as "superhero" in this context, and what folks want to replace the recent content. I don't think anyone was actually specific on the kinds of story lines they'd prefer to see. Just naming off example of pretty much every hero in comics, which there are a lot of and they have tons of variety to them. Do we want to see more Cosmic content like Silver Surfer, gritty and dark street-level stuff like Batman, powerful colorful spandex-clad action like Superman?
As to Venture's comment about the Well, I do agree with that. The Well story line effing sucks, and needs to be replaced with anything. -

The best option we have available is to have the second form Boss spawn after the first form Boss is defeated. You're going to need to use a map that has a final room where the spawn points are very close to each other to get this to work right. You can also use boss text to have him say something about being beaten, getting tougher and being ready for round two. But we don't have the ability to set an Ambush of only one, or have one boss spawn in the same exact point as another.
Also, Sylph, your best bet would be to choose a map with a small final room with multiple spawn points. Once the Boss is either defeated or reaches a certain health, have the second Boss spawn in the same room and say something about being a duplicate. As to the ally thing, I don't think you can have an ambush appear like that. However, you can try making the situation where you beat one of the boss's generals, which causes the boss to spawn in the final room and your ally to spawn nearby, commenting on being late to the fight.
If anyone can think of better solutions, though, go for it. Love hearing unique ways to use the AE. -
Quote:I won't. I hated sitting there clicking the same few buttons over and over again for ten/fifteen minutes, just waiting for his health to slowly drop. I felt like I should have just put one of my best powers on auto-fire and left to make some food or play minesweeper. Once you reach a certain point, more HP stops making a fight challenging and starts making it drawn out and stale.I can imagine when she is turning off incarnate powers right and left, people will look at the Reichsman days with fond memories.
Gotta love trial gimmicks......
Also, old school content had gimmicks every now and again. STF requires you destroy Recluse's towers that empower him while he's beating your team to a pulp with his near-infinite power. And those towers had engineers that could heal it back to full health if just one slips by you. ITF had us fight Rommy and his Nictus buds. And if we beat Rommy he'd sacrifice a Nictus to rez, your entire team is stunned, and we fight him again. Not to mention each Nictus was OP'd back in the day. Redside's Reichsman fight at least gave us something to do while we waited for Reichs to die and sent us never ending ambushes to keep us on our toes. And these are just a few examples of what could be considered gimmicks. So it's not like these things are entirely new concepts. -
Quote:Calm down.Who is this he and his you misogynic misfits keep referring to? And mocking? C'mon...I expressed some outrage (SO MAD) at not being able to have male lions as pets and then two PETA-loving tree huggers jumped in to talk to me about realism in a fantasy super-hero game...like that has any merit to the decision making processes implemented therein at all. THAT was humorous.
Anyway, continue with your own little debate. I'm still SO MAD about this.
And wait.....panthers? SERIOUSLY? PANTHER VANITY PETS ARE COMING? AAAARGH! -
We have Grief, Frustrated, Pushups, Growl, Collapse, Swoon, Catchbreath, and Assumetheposition to take advantage of already. A forward lean wouldn't be so bad.
-
Like how? If you can shoot out some examples of what you mean specifically that'd be cool, because "superhero" is a very vague, large genre that encompasses a wide variety of different types of characters.
-
According to the Ustream, I23's gonna focus on Shadow Hunter and Pendragon, Hero 1's counterpart. And Shadow Hunter's gotten a graphics overhaul on his look. And he can shapeshift into a huge dog beast.

Not really. They bust out more pets in the market so there's variety for the playerbase. And considering how many we have now, folks could easily summon an army of these non combat pets and they'd get in the way worse than MM pets. Plus it's just not that big of a deal. They don't do anything beside look pretty.

Quote:To be honest, I wasn't expecting it either. Just hoping. Telling a story through Trials just feels real awkward. :\I can understand what you're saying but also just was never expecting an 8 man "ending" to the whole Praetorian issue(s).
I've said it before, one person can make the difference in a trial.
I've been in 8 man tfs/sfs and felt like, "I could leave and it wouldn't be an issue/no one would notice." -
Beast Mastery required more resources to create than most other power sets. They had to make an entirely new skeleton for it and everything. Not only that, but the only power sets we've ever gotten for free were with an Issue release, and Beast Mastery was not part of an Issue release. So yes, you have to buy, and no, it's not that big of a deal. Considering before Freedom launched we'd never have gotten Beast Mastery and you'd be laughed at by the playerbase for suggesting it, I'd say it's worth the money if you want it.

Quote:That's true for most MMOs, but this game has always given us epic Taskforces to cover those awesome, huge events. STF/LRSF, LGTF, ITF, even the Apex and Tin Mage, which started the whole war. League-worthy raids were reserved for either a humongous monster or taking your army of supers to face down an army of Rikti in the middle of their home base. Trials are nice for those events that actually warrant nothing but combat, but a Taskforce is far more efficient at telling a story. I just, personally, feel the big ending to this conflict deserves at least that.I understand where you're coming from, but frankly, this is one of the main differences (in scope, concept, etc) between single or even multi-player games and massively multiplayer games. Final Boss vs. Endgame Raid. In the former, you get to be THE hero; in the latter, you're A hero. And that's just how it is. *shrug* IMO, you shouldn't go looking for one in the other, or complain that these apples taste nothing like oranges.
To bring it back to comics, everyone gets to be The Hero in their own monthly book. In big silly summer event crossovers, you're part of the team or even just a face in the crowd. -
Yeah, a smaller, more personal elite team where your more held accountable for your actions, the team depends on you far more, and what you do is much easier to notice. With Leagues, everything you do is unnoticable. You're just kind of there.
-
I just want it to be more personal. In my opinion, a truly epic and memorable battle would be one where you're not just one soldier of 24 or 32 being thrown at the end boss in a massive light show where you can't even tell what's really going on because of all the powers going off everywhere. It just doesn't feel climactic at all. I mean, the LGTF or LRSF/STF felt epic, had appropriate build up, and still had you fighting incredibly powerful bosses at the end.

I'd prefer if they touch on the wide range of powers we have before tossing in more enemy groups. Like some electric, ice, fire, earth, etc. pets.

Quote:This. Hopefully there'll either be a bit more, or it won't take all Spring and Summer.Sounds a tad light on content for a full issue. Hope it's not too terribly long of a wait.
Also a bit bummed out the final, climactic battle that wraps up this story line will be yet another Incarnate Trial. Just kind of takes away from the impact of finally beating the big bad leader of the Praetorians and saving the dimension from tyranny, along with 20-something others. I hoped the big confrontation with the man behind it all would be a bit more personal, like a special Incarnate Taskforce or something. Then that would lead into something more suitable for a Trial, the battle against Hamidon as the people of Praetoria evacuate from the Devouring Earth.
Oh well :\ -
Quote:You two Wild Kingdom nerds realize we are talking about a Beast Mastery SUPER POWER in a fantasy game about caped crusaders, right?
Screw Marlin Perkins and realism, I want MALE lions to do my bidding. Either that or female thugs for equality since they now gave us female lions. -
The villain arc needed to be revamped as soon as it launched.
