  1. Heraclea,

I am happy you posted because I went in to the editor and was happy to find that somehow I had a whopping 4% of space left. Not enough to add patrols or anything, but enough for me to make some nice little changes like:

    - Broke the 3 captives into three separate types/groups which allowed me to add more text/humor.

    - Modified a few of the customs power sets to rebalance the arc post power change patch

    - Added a little color to the intro text.

If you get a chance run it again. I would love to hear what you think of the tweaks.

Now that MA has calmed down I am resuming the weekly Sewer Hunts. This will start at 7 pm Pacific 10 pm Eastern.

On a side note on Thursdays same time I will be starting a Villain Mercy Team with the same goals in mind.

Hope to see you all there.

If you ever want to give it a shot villain side I have a one shot "arc" Rogue Isle Sewer System (16793) that simulations sewers on villain side. I have ran it with a large group and it works great for lowbie leveling.

Enjoyed all of the custom characters and reading their descriptions. The "M" chest detail was a stroke of genius in itself well worth the admission.

I think that since the patch made them harder some of them might be revisited. The scrapper I played through with had a tough time on some of the large spawns.

Also, I'd make more use of mob statements around the hostages and toss in a couple patrols with different patrol statements, just to add some characterization and color. The only NPC speech was the end boss, really. Optional bosses are also a good idea, if only because they can give more speeches as well.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Mobs around the hostages I might be able to swing. Patrols or any other addition no way. Last check I was between 98-99% space used.

  4. Same here. Three times and on Virtue also.
  5. All the Wannabes in my Trademark Infringement one mish arc. My personal favorite is Magnetic North.

  6. Is there a way to use Fraps and have it not show your Nav Bar, Tray, etc.?

  7. So is this best slotted in an always on or toggle power or is it like LoTG and the power does not need to be on?

  8. I spent the better part of a day rewriting all of The TV's (your contact) dialog to be in line with the TV contact in game. So, I would appreciate feedback on it. Thanks.

    Death to Disco!

FYI if anyone tried to play this or any of my other arcs today they were broken due to the patch. They are all back in working order now.

    WN

    P.S. -Check all your arcs!
  10. I think I figured out why the second arc was unplayable. It had the original energy captive animation in it. So when I opened and republished the arc in editor it reverted to the default captive animation and "fixed" the issue.
  11. I was wondering why none of my arcs had gotten any plays and decided to run though myself. I experienced a bug I had seen on test where you try to start an arc and it just won't start, no error message.

I edited the arc in question and found the old HTML character bug was back. I fixed the patch created issue and republished and it was fine.

The second arc I tried had the same "would not start issue". It however had no HTML errors or errors of any kind. I republished it without making any changes and after that it would start normally.

I suggest everyone check all your arcs.

    Death to Disco!

I have done quite a few tweaks on this one that I really think have improved it. These include:

    - Added a few more Rock references

    - Adjusted the boss and kidnap group spawns spots in the first mission (they used to both always appear in the last room).

    - Added a clue and dialogue to tighten up the link between the two missions.

    - Adjusted power sets on a couple of the Disco Nation faction.

Thanks to every one that has provided me with feedback.

    Long Live Rock!

  13. [ QUOTE ]
Explore a little, maybe a little more variety in the color of the costumes. Does the disco queen have a king? Is there a disco club bouncer? They were a little bland for my taste, NOT bad, but not WOW either.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again, I have gotten nothing but praise for the customs. As for is there a Disco King? Yes there is, his name is Dr. Disco Fever. (there is also a Prince). Adding any new characters is impossible, so that to me is not a valuable statement. The system has limits we all have to work within. I would love to add more and actually had to remove one (a busboy) due to space. Additionally, there is a Discotheque Owner, but he is the boss of the group and won't spawn if you play it solo.

    [ QUOTE ]
No, that is exactly what I am saying. Dr Disco is building some type of machine that will sonically disrupt any music with a hard backbeat. Rock will never exist at all. That will make me want to kill him more.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This would be a different story or at the very least a different mission. In any case I have pointed out....98.04% full does not leave room for much. Now, should I hit HoF, I can see a sequel like that.

    WN
  14. [ QUOTE ]

Honestly the types of arcs I would go back and run again are not only five stars. I am more inclined to go back and run short four star arcs than most five star arcs that are considerably longer.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It seems lke you are saying that short arcs can't be considered 5 stars or you like replaying arcs you enjoy less than others first?

    [ QUOTE ]

Adding in more rock references would be great, but that alone would not change the rating.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As I said I have been adding additional references and even used your welcome to the jungle idea I liked it so much.

    [ QUOTE ]

Improving the custom critters would definitely make the arc better.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You are the first person to say this. Examples?

    [ QUOTE ]

Adding in a little dialogue, as to how Dr Disco plans on making sure Rock can never exist at all, would help.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It must be a generational thing, but a type of music being dead does not mean "never exist at all". Is Disco dead? yes. Does it still exist and get airplay on some stations and in some clubs? Yes. Also, the Deity of Rock says Rock will fade away, not die. Never does it say anywhere "never exist at all". That is a bad assumption you made.

I did add a clue when you rescue Carter that hints at Fever's backup plan. When you get a chance, please check out what I added. Maybe that will bump it up for you.

    Death to Disco 84420
    Rating 4 Stars

I ran this arc with a lvl 50 Ice/Ice Blaster on diff 3.

Overall this is a solid arc. It is fast and fun to play. Someone has changed the past by kidnapping President Carter and now Disco has never died. I had to fix history, kill the bad guy and make sure disco dies and rock survives, a great idea for a MA arc. Custom critters looked ok, but were fun to kill.

Mission 1 kill a thousand Crey Voltiac Tanks and a boss, rescue Pres Carter. Carter found his own way out (Thanks!).
Mission 2 Kill Dr Disco, click some glowies. Dr Disco threw a safe at me! A safe! A huge solid steel safe! Almost as tall as I am, anyway, he died.

This is one of those fast simple arcs that is so fun sometimes you want to go right back and run it again. It feels good to know you helped rock survive. Give a quick reread to contact dialogue I think "sauer" is called "fever" (or i misunderstood).

Why not five stars? Custom critters were ok, not great. Should disco queen really have better D than Kung Fu fighter ? Contact needs more rock references; "$name its time to 'Fight Fire with Fire'", "$name you've got to go back and save Carter, I'm 'Goin off the rails on a crazy train' here with all this disco", and Dr Disco "$name 'Welcome to the jungle baby, you're gonna die".

    Great job!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for reviewing my arc! It's great that you enjoyed it so much. To address your points.

Disco Queen is a sonic based Lt. and Kung Foo Fightin is an MA based minion. The power sets are what they are and I did not want to have Diva and Disco Queen as both minions. I also wanted range attacks available to both minion and Lt. groups.

I am in the process of every day or two adding another rock reference. I just don't feel changing such a well received arc too much at once is a smart idea. These are just minor tweaks.

It does kind of annoy me that you only gave me 4 stars when you said "This is one of those fast simple arcs that is so fun sometimes you want to go right back and run it again". Having run easily 200+ arcs I can honestly say that I can count on one hand the number I might go back and play again. If those are not 5 stars, I don't know what is. It does not mean they are beyond improvement, but massaging dialogue is certainly a minor change.

    WN
  16. Thanks for the response! I corrected the minor grammar points you made and modified Fever's lines based on your suggestions. Also added the We are the champions....line to the Rock Deity, I really loved that idea. While doing this I noticed the arc is actually at 97.44%!

A brief trivia note. The day after the Disco Demolition the White Sox forfeited the game due to the damage left by the event. This was the last time an American League game was forfeited.

    WN
  17. PW,

Thanks much for the review. You have caught a few minor grammer things 170 other people did not.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Death to Disco! review

Consider changing "Hall of Rock" to be "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame".

    [/ QUOTE ]
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a real place and as far as I know the Deity of Rock does not live there.

    [ QUOTE ]

Logical flaw: rock and roll originated before disco, and so having the timeline change in 1977 wouldn't necessarily cause rock and roll to never exist. Though, having disco stay popular COULD relegate rock and roll to only being played on Oldies stations, which might be just as bad.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I really don't see how this is a logic flaw in any way. I think most would consider Disco long dead, but you can still find it and satellite even has a channel for it. "Dead" does not mean cease to exist" in music and I feel you are being too literal.

    [ QUOTE ]

In the mission: I am quite surprised that this mission is set outdoors and not in the "rave" dance club map. Even an outdoor city map would make more sense, I think. Although after doing some research I have learned that there actually WAS a "Disco Demolition Night" on July 12, 1979. I thought you had made this up! Perhaps put a precise date in your mission briefing and mention the location it was held (Comiskey Park) to add authenticity to the mission.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did a lot research and am old enough the remember the entire rise and fall of Disco, the Disco Demolition and to have actually gone to a real disco back in the day. Comiskey Park is an outdoor stadium and within the limits of the maps available I felt the one I chose was the best by far. Would I like an actual stadium map, sure, not available.

    [ QUOTE ]

    Overall
Fun concept with some fun references, but I think it needed a little more to really grab me. The two missions seemed only peripherally connected to each other by the framing story; I didn't have the sense that anything I did in the first mission directly impacted the second mission.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The failure of the first mission clearly made the second mission happen. The mission two briefing tells you clearly that you stopped Disco's plan to brainwash Carter back in 1977. As a result of this Fever came up with a "plan B" which was mission two that takes place in 1979 (giving him the two years to build his Disco Nation".

    [ QUOTE ]

It's a very short arc and I think maybe you could stand to add a little more stuff to each mission to make them more lively. Maybe throw in some more 1977 era personalities to the first mission that have to be rescued from brainwashing. To the second mission, maybe add a couple patrols each of Disco and Rock people, with additional disco and rock lyrics as lines.

Anyway, it IS a fun idea and as a result I gave it 4 stars.

    [/ QUOTE ]

On one hand it is nice that you enjoyed it enough to want more, but annoying because the AE system gives you limited space which I have to work within. The arc is around 95% full so adding much more than a few lines here and there is impossible. Additionally, I wanted to keep it short. Though the Dev's only seem to love epic's, in my experience players like the one and two missions arcs so that was what I did.

Again, thanks for the review and I will be adding the minor grammar things you pointed out plus I plan on incorporating a few of your suggestions into it.

  18. Here is my official submission

    Arc Name: Death to Disco!
    Arc ID: 84420
    Faction: Neutral
    Creator Global/Forum Name: @Wrong Number
    Difficulty Level: Easy
Synopsis: It's 2009; Dr. Disco Fever has somehow altered the timeline so that Disco never died. The Star Spangled Banner is played to a Disco beat! Sporting events start with people standing up and "getting down" for our national anthem. Restore the timeline or be stuck Boogie Oggie-ing forever!
Estimated Time To Play: 2 missions, about 30 minutes
    Enemy Groups: Custom, Crey

No, not rated means not rated.

However, it IS possible to rate 0 stars on purpose. Click the 1-star, then click it again to de-select it. And yes, it does drag your rating down severely.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know about the 0 star on purpose. The question really is does completing a arc up the play counter even if it is not rated.

    WN
  20. If you complete an arc, but either do not rate it on purpose or forget to does it effectively count as a zero. For example: There is an arc with 101 plays. 90 players rated it 5 stars and 11 forgot or did not bother to rate it. Would it be rated 5 stars or 4?

In other words is it calculated:

    450 stars / 101 plays = 4.4554455

    or

    450 stars / 90 plays = 5 stars

    WN
  21. [ QUOTE ]

    The Verdict:
This arc was obviously designed to be a short, comedic romp and it mostly delivers on that. I still have a few nitpicks, like how did all those Crey get back to 1977 and how did Dr. Disco Fever hire them? Why didn't any of those followers of his appear in mission 1 at all? Some of the powers of the Disco followers were a bit random and didn't seem justified at all.

I'll still give it a 4 for fun but not something I'd run again or share with friends often. With some more polish it might bump up to a 5.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for the review. Though your biggest bone of contention was fully explained. I am guessing you did not read Sauer's origin as it explains why he and his Crey team are there. The Deity of Rock is just reiterating what you already should know.

Level Range - This one can be tougher depending on the luck of your mix of enemies in each group. I would say 25 and up unless you bring break frees or have some mez protection.

Name: Have a Blap, Blap, Blappy Day Kids!
    Arc ID: 2019
Level Range - Only 1 EB at the end of the arc so this should be doable at any level you feel your character can handle an EB.

Whew! Finally got around to this one. One of the unfortunate side effects of having a Queue that shifts based on feedback and occasional personal preference. Anyway.

I thought it was really funny. Enjoyed all the writing and disco references in the second mission. The Rock 'n Roll patrols were a nice touch, though you could possibly cut one or two out. I liked the crey in the first mission. Though at first I thought that they were chosen because they have a secret service vibe to them, but then I realized that doesn't exactly make sense. But that doesn't really affect the arc at all anyway. I liked the use of color, effective and not overdone. The custom mobs in the second mission were pretty well put together, the only minor sticking point was there was a point where I was getting a lot of stacked slows from entangling arrows and ice blasts, but nothing frustratingly difficult. Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit.
