    Can I cry now?

It's a shame and hopefully the devs have something in mind to restore balance/purpose/meaning to the ratings system. As it is now, the odds of you bouncing back from that single one is very, very low since it would take seven five stars to bring the average back up to just a 4.5. You are not alone, I've gotten many 1 stars in the last few months including a double hit to a 5 star arc that dropped to 4 and has not gotten a play since.

Besides the unbalanced weighting of the stars you have the social aspect to factor in. Many people will rate a story arc based on how good they feel it was (which is how the system should work after all) and these ratings are totally different from one person to the next. One the other hand, people that play farms generally either don't rate or give a 5 as a "reward". This has pushed story arcs further and further away from the top of the default search and it's getting worse everyday. There are now five HoF farms with number six like 50 plays away last I checked. These were all granted in the last couple of months. In comparison, there only eight story arcs in HoF total since 4/09 and those ALL come from the first week or so from MA launch. I'm certain the system is not working as originally envisioned or intended.

  2. While many improvements suggested here and elsewhere would be nice, they are in my opinion meaningless if the ratings system and search function are not addressed. Additionally, the ten's of thousands of abandoned, broken and test arcs need to be cleaned out of the system. These should be the issues we promote here and in beta.

Thanks in advance for the reply.

Is the group made up of custom characters mixed with dev made characters? After one of the patches (I think it was the profanity filter), my mixed group lost all of the "custom" dev characters from it.

Good call, I'd forgotten about that option.

We don't really have a protocol other than common sense, i.e. don't spam.

  6. Go into the "Custom Critters" folder and delete the file with the same name as that character.

  7. I see joining the MA Arc Finder Channel popping up often as a suggestion and am surprised sometimes to find out some older MA authors were not aware of it. So, I'm reviving this original announcement from when I created it in the hopes of it getting a sticky.

  8. If you want greater rewards you need to pick harder/challenge arcs which are going to require high level characters and tougher settings. If you are just looking for arcs that give close to 100% exp I'm betting you can pick any of any seasoned author's arcs. I know every arc I every made has 90%-100% reward levels with most near 100%. I bet most authors will say the same.

  9. I'm not sure if you have played it already or not since the revamping, but Old Dog, New Trick would fit the bill.

    Name: Old Dog, New Trick
    Arc ID: 402429
    Creator Global Name: @Wrong Number
Synopsis – Rex Magnus, the poster dog of the PPD's K9 program, has been injured in a bomb blast. Can you save him before it’s too late?
    Difficulty Level: Medium
    Number of EB/AVS – 1 EB
    Level Range – 30-54
    Story Type – Origin Story
Villain Groups – Crey, Freakshow and Custom
    Mission Count: - 3
Estimated Time to Play – About 45 minutes

Note @Jail.bird the arc's original author, deleted this arc. I've updated it for I17, added my personal touch plus lots of other stuff and republished it with his permission since I felt the arc was well worth saving.

As I detailed above, it's a multi-part task that you would need to repeat for every arc you have published.

I'm surprised you don't keep a local copy of your arcs' current assets just in case.
I do, but as with most people I doubt I'm perfect about keeping it up to date every time I change one detail or tweak a custom.

Oh, and why are you concerned with unpubbing arcs on Test? o.O Tix & Rates don't matter there...
Why would you think I was concerned? It's just another step you need to take to properly test.

It's not as easy as you think. You would need to log on to live and then:

    1) Edit the live arc

    2) Save it locally

    3) Edit and then save every custom group used in the arc locally

    4) Edit and then save every custom character in the arc locally

    5) Copy these all over to each of the proper folders in test

    6) Log on to test and run them in test mode, but really they need to be published to check rewards so...

    7) Unpublish the current version on test

    8) Publish the current version from live hoping you didn't forget to edit/save anything

    9) Test the arc for errors

    10) Repeat steps 1-9 for each of your other arcs (that's 7 more times in my case)

Far from ideal, labor/time intensive and still not foolproof. If they just copy the current set of arcs over we could test them skipping steps 1-8.

Maybe there is a technical reason why this can't be done, but if it can, it would make things a lot easier and more people might test their arcs prior to a patch/update going live preventing problems.

  12. I just logged on to the test server to make sure my arcs will not break when I21 goes live. I was surprised to see several broken and them all in the state they were just after the profanity filter was added. I had to manually fix all of my arcs again (an hour plus process) though there is no way to be 100% sure they exactly match what is on the live server. It would be extremely helpful if the "snapshot" of the arcs was updated to reflect them as they currently are on live before I21 hits. This would be a useful thing to do before every new patch or issue.

    WN
  13. I really don't think you need to worried about it.

P.S. - Seeing your forum name I have to ask if you've ever played my arc Death to Disco! (just search on @Wrong Number or check out the link in my sig). I'm betting it's right up your alley and it's only two missions long.

I overheard an argument as to why someone would be in AE during 2x weekend. The farmer said "I got a character from 1-50 in just over 5 hours yesterday". That pretty much shut everyone else up.

There's no reason we couldn't tell a compelling story AND provide optimized rewards.

We could really learn something from our farm-crafting counterparts in this respect and be a benefit to both ourselves and our players.
The problem is that there is no way to tell what you will get reward wise from an arc by looking at it's listing. Also, it depends a great deal on the settings the player is using. As a rule for all of my arcs all of my custom characters give a minimum of 90% rewards with over half of them at the full 100%.

  16. The Ms Manners Task Force #416951 was designed for a team of eight and to give max rewards. It's humor based and a sequel of sorts to Trademark Infringement and In Poor Taste.

    WN

Edit - I didn't the notice the "are not too time consuming" requirement. The arc is designed to be TF like and though only four missions, it may be longer than you are looking for if you are looking for quick eight person team arcs.
  17. I wanted to give you guys an update, especially since it's a good one...it looks like the transplant has taken and @Kinetic Jaunt is making blood cells on his own again. If things stay on course over the weekend he will be able to return home next week sometime! He still has another 2-3 months of being stuck indoors (He has been in the hospital since June 13th) while he recovers, but things are looking up and hopefully you will be seeing us both back in game again.

I also would really like to thank all the people who have written me or sent me tells. I truly appreciate the support.

  18. Anyone else stuck at the connecting for the updater?

  19. Is this still going on now? I'm getting the connecting....1...2...3

[EDIT: I'm just kidding, of course. If I were willing to do this sort of thing, I would be out there offering to pay 1 billion inf to each person willing to 5 star my arcs.]

    Love it.

The rating on the MA system is completely bogus.

I have to remind myself sometimes that sarcasm often gets missed on the net. I spent a long time promoting MA (Founded MA Arc Finder channel, MA Super Team, to name a couple) and have long advocated the change of the rating system and Hall of Fame. I was annoyed that day to see eight of the ten arcs on page 3 (The first player rated arcs after DC/HoF/Guest) werel farms.

    WN
  22. Not only is it OK, clearly they are some of the best arcs in the system. At least it appears that way looking at the top rated arcs and HoF, I can only hope that someday I create something as good that is deserving of HoF so I can get another arc slot. A girl can dream, can't she?
