Quote:this is why I'm actually hopeful that the rebuild rumor (although I admit to only hearing it in one post) is true as it would account for it. Either way the only fully operational PC I have right now is my 10+ y/o PPC so I'm screwed for game either way atm. :-pCan we please, PLEASE get the copy tool back? How the HECK could it be broken for over two months?! HONESTLY!!! This is verging on pathetic. I hope you guys don't pay your crew that updates/maintains the copy tool and the server uptime webpage because they both suck.

*I like the term security breach because it conjurers the idea of Tony running down a metal corridor full of flashing red lights to hit the emergency shut down button on the server. -
Sucks about the site, but you guys are having better luck with it (from the sounds of it) than me and my laptop issue. I was Going to suggest a race to see who's up fully first, but I'm quite sure you're going to win. >.<

The title doesn't tell a fraction of the story, but I'm sure that anyone on PinnBadges can tell you that I've been silent for most the month. :-(
Basically my GPU finally fried due to a known design flaw with the series of laptop I have/had. It took me 2-3 weeks to get replacement parts, updates, etc to the point that I could be where I am now, on the cusp of installing/migrating CoX.
Here's what the system has hardware wise. Keep in mind that I've customized some of the hardware because of things like cosmetic flaws and/or unknown hardware failures. (It was a $150 eBay fix, what can you do)
HP Pavilion dv9500t series laptop
Intel Core2Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20Ghz
Mobile Intel 965 PCI Express Bus (I think that's what DM's telling me)
4Gb of DDR2(?) RAM
ACPI x64 based PC (w/ BIOS set to Virtual Machine Hardware Enabled)
Intel 82801 PCI Bridge
Intel 82802 Firmware Hub Device
Intel ICH8 Family PCI Express
Twin SATA Drive bays (120Gb Primary, 320Gb Secondary)
nVidia GeForce 8600M GS GPU (256Mb + VRAM = 2Gb) driver: 285.62
Slimtype DVD Multiwriter w/ Lightscribe
HP Integrated BT 2.0 Radio
Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Wifi Card
Realtek HD Audio
Again, some of the non-soldered components were swapped from my (compatible) dv9260US laptop that failed.
Just as important, here's the list of software. Everything is fully current as of this posting.
Windows 7 Professional x64
XP Mode
Computer Associates Internet Security Suite
Office 2007 Suite (Full Install)
AOL Desktop 9.6
Internet Explorer 9
Trillian v4.x
Adobe AIR, Flash, Reader, Shockwave
Apple Quicktime
Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate
Roxio CD & DVD Creator 6 (Only Audio Central is installed/used)
Roxio Creator 2010
Shove-it (tiny app to keep windows within the desktop boundaries)
Corel Paint Shop Pro X3
Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate
Disk Monitor (HD temps, SMART, etc)
DirectX 11
Ultimate Windows Tweaker (TweakUI for 7, minimal cosmetic adjustments only)
Partition Scheme:
Drive 0
C: (System, 45Gb, NTFS) OS, browser addons, Hibernation File, and required files
D: (Apps, 36.7Gb, NTFS) All 3rd Party Applications including (future home of) CoX/Test/Beta
E: (GAMES, 30Gb, Fat32) Hopefully the home of my pre-Win7 Games I play now and then
Drive 1
F: (Data, 320Gb, NTFS) Location of all documents/pictures/etc, temp dir for all 3rd party apps, VM system file
I'm typing this from my 10+ y/o Apple G4 as I'm still working on updates and limiting the laptop's exposure to online dangers (not that I've had much risk). I HAD a lovely list of links in my PM folder for such an occasion-ish, but most have been broken due to forum changes it seems.
I did a search for Windows 7 and got just about nothing from the first couple hundred results. I'm hoping for responses here as I'm going to hold off on the migration until I get a 'best method' response here as I know there's one.
****The Important Part****
I have the following available to me because I don't trash anything JUST in case.
CoH: GR DVD
Full directories for CoH/Test/Beta from the XP install
Launcher Installer
I'm fine with installing the Launcher and letting it run for-Ever while I sleep, but I know that we had a method of partial DL+PIGG migration (at a certain point) talked about Somewhere on here and that sounds faster. :-p
I await new knowledge and hope that somebody thinks it wise to Sticky a related How-To thread. ;-) -
nm, not falling for That trick again ;-)

If the game hadn't gone F2P, then I may have argued the feasibility, but I'm gonna just keep working on this system until I get it working correctly. I just hope I don't have as many issues getting the game working on said system under Windows 7 x64.

For those that care to know, my laptop finally suffered the failure of its GPU. My backup (for fun) system is a 10+ yr/old PPC that can barely handle youtube on low rez. Needless to say I've already been unable to access the game for atleast two weeks and I'm unsure as to how much longer I'll be without a PC. I'm pre-sub'd through April and pondering the logic/wisdom of requesting my account to be put on hold, billing wise (if that makes sense to anyone). Should I bother requesting this (if it's even possible) or should I just let things stay the way they are?
I don't frequent the P.H. forum very often so PMs are welcome. ^.^ -
Quote:Considering that was posted a Month ago (and one month after the initial post)...then I'd have to say Something like that, but not necessarily everyday. Even once a week is pushing it, but perhaps a top of the month update? And she didn't say it was broke, she just said they were trying to figure it out at the time giving the impression that it was a temporary thing. Something quite different than the rumored replacement. I'm not saying make it a priority, but it's something worth giving to the errand boy in the shop. :-pYou mean something like this?
Hey, waddayaknow, they DID tell us it's broke and that they are working on it.
Or is it that you want them to come in and say something everytime someone posts about it still being down, even though they have no new news?
Or is it that you want them to come in and say something every few days just to satisfy people that they are still aware that it's broken, they are still working on it as an effort to forestall posts about it being down?
BTW, the posts about it wouldn't stop, even if the OCR team made a daily post about it being down. -
I haven't been on in a week or so as this could be patch related, but generally that shouldnt' be happening with mobs. I'm not sure what the code is setup for with two players hitting though. They finally got around to making pets/NPCs move out of Your way in crowded places though!
-
This actually makes sense considering how long it's been down, etc. I just wish we had more frequent official updates to such things. Even if you don't have set time frame atleast say "hey, X is broke. We're working on it."
-
Without looking things up I'd have to say it all depends on how much you plan on upgrading. If you can afford it, then it won't hurt to max it out at 4 as worst case you'd have a 32bit system only seeing 3.5/4.0 (until you upgrade to a 64bit OS if you're not there already).
If you're only looking to goto say 3, then you'd need to check and see if the board/DIMMs allow for mixed capacity chips (I think most modern setups do) or if they're required to be installed in pairs. Again, without looking it up, that's the sum of it. -
Come to think of it I think my one base lost coalitions...I'm honestly not sure because I wasn't tracking and some of them were geared to benefit the coalitioned group anyway (let them use our porters).
-
Ya....pretty much. And considering the fact that it's a cosmetic toggle power with no ingame effects (cloak vs NPC's, etc), then it's considerably overpriced. I don't plan on getting any of them, but even 100pts is high to me.

Quote:Now this, in a logistics sort of way, makes sense and has me now betting that Everyone should start seeing Tokens on the 28th of each month. 28 also makes sense in that Every month has atleast that number of days nomatter the circumstance and would simplify the reward script. Either way this is still annoying. The day before my bill date is the 6th. The day before I got my Points this month was the 11th.
The day I was told "in a few days" by a Senior GM was 2 days ago. After that I asked the GM to give me an approximate reward date and was told:
The day I was told the 28th by a Senior GM was today. -

Any hope that the final fix will include the repair of said symbols as that took alot of work to begin with.

Quote:That much I understand as (unlike windows) Mac's essentially hide the contents under an umbrella file that can be transfered between systems so long as they're the same type (MPC/Intel/Universal Binary), but I didn't know about the preference files, etc. I guess I just didn't understand whether you meant that you had transfered the Bootcamp/Windows version or the Native Mac version as the former could have been tricky. The good thing is that it worked!I am running Snow Leopard (10.6) and he is using Lion (10.7).
It is very common on macs to be able to just copy an application bundle from one machine to the next and it will just work.
Edit: Perhaps this should be stickied? -
Quote:Ouch on all accounts. I wish I new more about xcode and the intricacies of Mac/Win dual booting. Not having an intel I don't really have a reference point. :-/I have been helping him with this problem.
He has contacted support, but they have not answered for over a month now.
We uninstalled the old client and launcher and removed everything we could find that had to do with the game from ~/Library. Then we downloaded the installer from the account page and started that. Every time it failed with the hash error. Really weird. We have also run memory and hard drive checker programs without finding any errors.
Luckily we did find a workaround. We copied my own game and launcher apps to his computer (took 10 hours over the net, eek). That seems to work for now. We have to see what happens when the next patch arrives.
Curious though, how is your system setup that allowed that copy to work on his? I'm assuming Not lion. -
Quote:I'm assuming we've created an online ticket for this one or do I have to come over there with my heat gun. :-pSo... I logged into the game today, but, I couldn't because it says that I have a F2P Account, I am a VIP Account & my Subscription was payed for a few days ago. I wound up having too spend 15 Dollars too see if I could be a VIP, again & I still had too spend one of my server/global slots so that I could access only 1 of my Characters! What is going on?

Quote:Not as much as he likely did with my double oopsies the other day. OThe better thing would have been for Xenophage to have paraphrased it in the post instead of pasting the response received.
And I'm skating on thin ice in this post. If I get much further in I'll have to click the Report Post icon on it and make Zwafflemonger fall out of his chair laughing when he sees who reported it. -

I hate to see you guys having issues, but just wanted to throw this out there.
I don't know what system they're using, but on the support ticket system at work, if there's no communication trigger (normally me calling back to say it didn't work), then the tickets auto-close after 5 days. My best Guess is that you guys are correct in that the transition from server set somehow caused a variable issue. IE: the variable tracking Tokens is tied to time on that server set. So if say you spent 2 years on the EU server, swapped to the US and kept on for 4 years, then the variable tracking the US time wouldn't know about the old variable tracking the EU time. It would go something like this:
EU
---
24 / 12 = 2
24 / 3 = 8
+1 for account
+1 for box
= 12
US
---
48 / 12 = 4
48 / 3 = 16
+1 for account
+1 for box
= 22
In this case the EU counter would be 12 while the US counter would be 22, but the US counter (being US only in this example) wouldn't have a clue about the EU counter so you'd only see 22 on the account. A Fix for this would be to have a global counter, but again this is Entirely speculation on what Could cause the issue. -
Quote:Yes, they do try to be quick about helping players and I definitely recomend that everyone save copies of their costumes (for those of us that actually bother creating 2nd, 3rd, etc). If you've forgotten to save your original costume, then you can simply goto any tailor (even the new ones) and Say you're going to change your costume, but instead save what's in the slot.A personal update...
but yes, they were very polite and pretty punctual about it
On a side note, if you want to try to pre-cross-gender your toon, then you can do the following. It works Most the time and retains the proportions, but since not all costume pieces are cross gender, then you may run into some issues. Simply goto the costume file on your drive (CoX folder/costumes generally) and make a copy. Name it something like Name_AltGender and keep everything after the dot the same (file extension). go into that file and search for every instance of the gender (IE: If the toon was male, then search MALE) and change the gender (IE: change MALE to FEMALE). Close/save the file and try the import. If there were costume pieces that don't cross-gender, then they will show up as an error, but you can tell the game to attempt to correct. I really need to figure out how to make this into a Visually appealing thread. :-/ -
Quote:From the way I understand it that Looks right to me. Points on current bill date and token day before next bill date. Like I said above, Z's mentioned that it'll take em a couple months to get everyone squared away so next month should be a little smoother for the lot of us.So, let me get this straight.
Billing cycle: 6mo (Last, Aug 9 2011. Next, Feb 9 2012.)
Bill date: 9th of the month
Thus,
Next point stipend: October 11 2011 (400pt since I'm at tier 6 on the shrubbery... for now...)
Next reward token: Nov 8?
Did I get that right?
