Upgrading RAM
Without looking things up I'd have to say it all depends on how much you plan on upgrading. If you can afford it, then it won't hurt to max it out at 4 as worst case you'd have a 32bit system only seeing 3.5/4.0 (until you upgrade to a 64bit OS if you're not there already).
If you're only looking to goto say 3, then you'd need to check and see if the board/DIMMs allow for mixed capacity chips (I think most modern setups do) or if they're required to be installed in pairs. Again, without looking it up, that's the sum of it.
Memory is so cheap, I would just buy 2x2GB and call it done.
That being said, how much do you have now? If you already have 2GB, going to 3 or 4 GB won't make much difference for CoH anyways.
Another forumite said it did but after testing my machine with 2GB and 4GB even after 4 trials on each configuration and playing for 3+ hours there was no difference in game performance.
Now if you have 1GB then yes, get more. If you already have 2GB, I would say it would be wiser to start saving up for a computer upgrade where you replace the MB, CPU and get DDR3 memory.

Okay, so I've come here before looking for answers but for the life of me, I can't find any of my older posts. Anywho, so I was looking at specs for my computer again and I remember someone telling me I could get up to 4GB of RAM on this.
I have a Compaq Presario SR5510F desktop. These are the RAM specs: Installed Size: 2.0 GB / 4.0 GB (max) Technology: DDR2 SDRAM Memory Speed: 800.0 MHz Memory Specification Compliance: PC2-6400 Form Factor: DIMM 240-pin Configuration Features: 2 x 2 GB So I was looking on the Best Buy website (comparison shopping) and I found a PNY Optima 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 DIMM Memory. The specs all seem to match the RAM specs for my desktop. Now, my question is: Would I be able to remove my 2 sticks of RAM and install 2 of the PNY sticks or would I just have to buy 1 PNY and install it with the 2 I already have, since there is an extra slot on the motherboard? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And any other advice on how to further upgrade my desktop would be helpful as well ![]() |
Recommend going online to a dedicated memory retailer like Crucial.
Guaranteed compatibility and should be cheaper than what you're buying off the shelf.

Buying DDR2 RAM is a dead end. Save up for a bigger CPU + MB + memory upgrade.

Well, I'm slowly gonna be upgrading the hardware on the computer.

So that means, eventually, that you're going to be buying or building new.
