I would have FOUND the money to still be VIP. I don't care if it means that I'd be that much closer to some financial limit for a few months, I'd have made sure that I could login to every toon on my accounts and backup anything I haven't already got a copy of. Considering Titan's working on something that could automate that, this sucks even more!
2.
No.

As has already been pointed out their forums were closed before the announcement was made to close CoH. In fact their forums were closed back at the beginning of August when I first made my prepurchase of GW2 and registered my account info.

If their forums were ever open it was only to beta testers.
For the same reason any Other game ever gets a forum pre-release.

The whole "Gold back to White" is a forum error unfortunately. :-/

I know this because it likes to tease me ALOT!

Actually in a way it is! Only it relates to the end of contractual obligations, not the end of a cycle. :-p
5. And quite litterally burn down every physical server related to the game, hindering any Possible chance of recovering the vital game/character data in the process should the efforts in the works actually manage to succeed.

No Spanks! ;-)

Absolutely, Manpower can cost you upwards of 50% expense wise, but without it the you've got a car without a mechanic.

100% THIS as I don't see anything replacing this. If the final nail does keep the coffin closed, then I'll likely never be found in an online game again.

This was one of the few games that had the formula Right for once. It's not an FPS, but if you wanted to spend a day beating crap up, then go for it. It's not a carbon copy of (insert fantasy MMO title) as it's unique enough that Major comic based companies wanted it dead because they knew it would be a serious competitor.

This thing has the most elaborate costume creator I've ever seen and it was only getting better! You didn't even have to finish making a character to save the alternate costumes. We were getting customizations that rivaled the complexity of anything on the market. About the only thing you could say about the CC that was flawed would be the cartooned down quality. IE: The faces looked like toys compared to say Mass Effect, but at the same time, said game was intended to look real in that sense while CoX wasn't aimed that direction.

Almost everything about the CC can be said about the Base/AE editors with the exception that for Bases atleast, there were known human error related flaws that would take an enormous undertaking to rectify. Perhaps that could be part of a rebuild effort?

In my entire lifetime of picking up a toy/game, this is the Only one that I ever felt drawn back into. I'd left twice for a total period of ~3yrs. I'd heard about it being in Beta from friends who were into online gaming back then and even tossed me a trial account or two to test it out when it released. Officially, I started subbing somewhere near i2-i3 (nomatter What the billing thing says). I vaguely remember things like entire new zones, the introduction of HEATs, SGs, eventually Bases, etc. I didn't even have to be a Gamer to play. I could play as casually as I wanted to without some sort of major penalty.

I was able to explore parts of my personality that rarely make their way out because of a lack of proper medium. In fact, each of my toons serves to help me play out different aspects of myself independantly. There's not a chance in hell I'd ever find that IRL let alone in any other game I've ever come across and I've played some weird games before. This game helped me find tallents I'd never considered. In fact, considering I'd been in college most of this same time, I had Professors from my BS degree program tell me that the writing skills I had shown were Masters degree worthy and that they'd fully support it. Funny enough, the only writing I was doing was backgrounds for each toon and a lingering idea that I should actually write them out in the form of a sort of history.

This is one of the few real communities that I've been a part of that I didn't feel like the fly on the wall. I could talk freely (granted, I'm sure that the /gi was probably toggled a few times during any rants) and receive actual thought out responses. This may not seem like a big thing, but take into account that my Home Server has Always been Pinn. :-p

So no, while I will read the many suggestions on places to checkout, I doubt I'll find another worth my time.
9. My Version:

Subject

{City of Heroes} Please help save our World!

Body

It appears as if NCSoft feels that our 'Game' is nothing but that, something that people simply pop a quarter into on the weekends. In fact, we are a fairly large community that have been around for 8 years give or take an LOA. Of the many avenues that we are scrambling to investigate, many seem to believe that your company would be a good place to move our home to. If you find that inviting 125k+ people into your home is not too much, then please consider our request.

11. The dryest eyed way to respond to this is that the only thing more supportive in my life is Music. It's the one thing that can litterally turn the desire to push that accellerator to the ground over to a sense of hope and stability.

The game, however, allowed me to express myself (each little bit) to others in a world where it's either too expensive for me to travel to a friends house or even meet new ones. I'm not the most social apt person, but this was one of the few places that I didn't have to worry about work or family hearing about a random rant or anything else that could be misinterpreted. I'm sure that ended up with me being blocked by a few, but that's their choice.

That said, this is probably one of those times where losing such a crutch is probably just as bad as the good it brought.
12. Hey,
I've seen things like this before posted on Youtube, etc, but I was wondering if we could get a sort of House to House video team going? I'm not even close to familiar with recording demos ingame and I always seem to get weird angles when walking around the base anyway. Is it possible that we could get a sort of group effort from those that Do know what they're doing to do a walk through vid for bases and post them onto a Youtube account as a sort of memorial for all SG/VG's? I realize it takes effort and time away from game, but I'm sure that those of us who may be able to create decent looking bases, but suck at demorecord would be extremely appreciative. Think of it as one last gift for the community, an insight into the many households of City of Heroes!
13. Ok, so for all of us pseudo-creative types the one thing that's probably going to kill us the most is the passing of our toons/bases/etc. Not because of all the effort and related money, but because of the love we put into them. If you know me IRL (which is probably less than 5 of you), then you know that for certain reasons I Don't use the L word unless I absolutely mean it. Hell, I don't even respond in kind to the half-hearted "Love You" at the end of a phone call because I feel that it cheapens the meaning.

NeWay, I was pondering over the many things I would miss the most and it was hands down my toons and my adopted bases. I have babes that have yet to grow up to be adults, rooms that have yet to be fine tuned, and stories that have yet to be written (litterally). While it's true that I'll have the Faces archive (as long as they can afford to keep it running) and my Toon folders on my HDD, it's not going to be the same.

What's worse is that since I've dropped to Preem and now have no way to even emergency Sub (locked market), I now have atleast a dozen toons that are locked away forever. I've likened it to being the parent of children that are being taken to the consentration camps. Helpless and without any power to ensure a proper burial.

To one without Altitis this may sound silly and honestly it is in a way, but it's something that I was always drawn back to. I stopped playing for nearly 3 years in total over several 'game retirement' periods, but always got pulled back. Not because just because it was a game I liked, hell I've spent most the year pruning bases, raising new toons, sending old toons back into spring training, etc!

A dying person always gets one last request. I have dozens of dying toons on two accounts (if you don't count the dozens of dozens of padder alts on temps). There are likely a couple million toons in the same boat. Please unlock all existing toons. I'm not asking for server tokens or a full global VIP upgrade. Just the toons.

*If it's not a bother, keeping the lights on in the base would be cool too. O
14. Like many, I have a rarely used, City specific AOL email account. Just make sure to says something like "I'm from City" in the subject line so I don't mass-spam-delete.

WanderingAries79@aol.com
15. this really makes parking my main all over the city for 21days at a time seem even that much more silly. :-/

but not as much as I feel like all the lowbie toons are being sent to the death camps before they can get a chance to live life.

Boycott NCSoft

To be fair, this was the ONLY NCSoft product I Every pushed money towards as it was the Only one that held my interest both in game and community!

Then, we started playing other games together. Ultimately, I moved in with him when I had nowhere else to go. We no longer live together, but we spend every day, all day, chatting it up on mumble and playing games together.

He's the best friend I could ever hope to have, and without this game, I would never have met him.
I can't even count the number of marrages that have resulted from interaction in this game...Unlike most FPS', it's not a marrage ending sorta game. ;-)
18. I'm intentionally NULL on this front because I want people to see each aspect of 'me' through the toons. That's what this game was about to me, a place where I could let parts of me out however I wanted since apparantly nobody can handle the Whole me at once. :-p

IDK about the paid stuff, but for those of us who have locked toons please unlock them for one last hooora!
20. I don't have a RL story to match, but I definitely have a whole world of Alt-Bio history that could spit out a book or two.
21. If you Really wanna keep it alive, the folks at Titan are seriously looking into it and are the most promising route to a survival strategy.
22. Mine can all be seen/read on Faces.

24. I would vote for a full unlock of all existing toons ingame as well...one last way to recover survivors of this holocost.
25. Although I'm surprised it wasn't already posted about (normally not by me because I don't have links in my pockets like others do :-p), but one of the stickies at the top of the board refers to how to post for assistance.

Don't take it the wrong way (I did the same for my own thread), but atleast we know your issue should resolve itself within a couple months unless by some miracle the Titan guys get a deal worked out. :-/
