    Ram Drive

One thing to remember about RAM Drives, they were thought up during a period in time when read/write speeds of the storage device were pitiful compared to that of the memory chips. With the advent of SSDs, this (should have) essentially signaled the retirement of what was a wonderful concept for a system that could support it. From what everyone has said this past year about SSDs in other threads, the more you write, the faster you use up the lifeblood of the device. Hopefully this part was obvious, but just reitterating.

Just curious, but besides "because I could" what lead you to purchasing such a large amount of ram?

I wonder what would happen if a VHD was run from a RAM disk?

Eh, it's probably just me using the basic tabs that makes it feel that way then. I don't modify the UI quite as much as many seem to so I can see how doing things like what Aggs is showing would thin things out a bit. I didn't even consider the whole 16 server thing either, but then again I've never moved away from home either. I don't like using the mouse alot anymore due to the arthritis, so changing tabs gets annoying, but not as much as expanding/separate the chat windows to compensate.

    2. Again, I'll defer to others that have been able to test this, but they shouldn't lose control unless they are logged out longer than the inactivity timer is set for.
    1. Anyone can become Red star after the group has been formed;
    2. Anyone who has the Red star, but is idle for more than the configured idle period will lose the star to the first toon to login of the next lowest rank (confirmation of this part plz). This can be rectified later with a meeting of the minds between the two players.

Because DirectX is M$FT's baby perhaps?
  5. You mentioned "onboard sound", so are you saying that you lose audio when running CoX and WMP over HDMI to the TV, but it's fine when running through the normal speakers? I've run into a recent issue on the same OS where I have to manually change my sound output from laptop speakers to SPDIF when using my HDMI. Then again, this laptop's nearing the end of its lifetime too so it could easily be something different.

Also, I was wondering if I needed more RAM. I will look into it.

Thanks, guys. If you have any more ideas, I'll take them.

If you can afford it, then nab Windows 7 x64 plus a total of 4Gb of RAM or more would be a good minimum so long as your system can handle it. I don't have the system whitepages on that one so I haven't a clue what your upgrade options are.
  7. Yeah, the key part in the Migration is making Sure the directories are identical or you'll have to do some file editing.
  8. I'm assuming you're running windows and therefore have to say Yes, but normally it doesn't block CoX. we'd need more info though so checkout the sticky on posting tech help.
  9. try this

    run program manager (control+alt+del)
run each instance and pay attn to the resource usage
if it jumps to 100%, then CPU could be it, but my bet is the GPU as I had two similar laptops, but one had twice the GPU RAM and it was able to do two instances on moderate settings while the older one had to be in safe mode for both.

    Game off center?

I was about to start a registry edit shpeel, but it dawned on me that the game has a Safe Mode option. Have you tried that? See if that will let you in all the way as it forces min gfx and it's possible something's gotten corrupted, but from the other chime-in it's also possible that a recent event has screwed something up in your install.

Update: Just tested and I'm my usual full screen self. Perhaps there's something up with your ingame settings?

To modify Hyperstrike's directions, enter the following into the extra command line parameters field:

    -fullscreen 0
    -screen 800 600

This WILL force the game into windowed mode at a resolution of 800x600. once you're in, then hopefully you can get to the game's graphics button at the login screen.
  11. It's probably just me, but I still play games now and then that were made before Windows XP was in the planning stages and they run fine (when I'm using an x86 compatible OS)...just sayin :-p

I'm wondering Why you'd need more than that honestly? granted, I suppose not everybody uses the same chans for every toon, but still doesn't that clog up your chat window?

Try what H said and hopefully the issue should resolve itself once you can adjust the settings again. If not I'm sure we could come up with a few things to try.

I did notice a couple things though with the build. It says Vista, but it kinda feels like you're running Vista x86. I also noticed that you're running slim on RAM (especially for that OS). You may wanna consider adding a gig or two if it's possible/affordable. The swap file looked a little small too, but I'm using "old" memory concepts according to some I'm sure. A couple drivers seem to have been highlighted for being old as well. If you're stable, then don't mess with em, but it's possible that there are new versions of them available if you feel like looking into it.

GL and don't forget to post the results!
  15. That was a (felt like atleast) short pilot program. If it really was random, then Loki must have been rolling the dice each time.

Not the advanced testing part, but I can confirm that if the entire browser session is closed or I'm idle for too long, then I have to relog. Granted, I let the browser remember logins so there's less typing, but it still happens. Many times I'll have typed up long helpful things and find that during the period of time that I was typing, I had actually become logged out. Thus I try to remember to copy each and every reply I make so that I don't have to rewrite each time just in case.
  17. make sure you're fully deleting the files from the launcher's folder as there are files within that control the settings.

Wasn't it like five full missions and they cut it to three? for most contacts atleast.

These can simply be copied to an external USB drive and moved with little to no issues. Your favorites files will transfer, but the order in which they appear in the browser will not. Don't even attempt to transfer system settings as (so far as I've ever tried) they won't work on a different OS (especially not going from x86 to x64). *awaits corrections*

some software programs, and my password manager program...
These will likely require a reinstallation so using the original media to reinstall the program is a better idea, but find/use any settings/backup options each program happens to have.
