Quote:Take the things that we can't do mechanically out of the movie...and what we get with the rikti invasions is basically the same thing. In a Rikti invasion, everyone huddles together and spams powers for five minutes nonstop and nobody can see what's going on. In the game as a whole, teamwork consists of holy trinity MMO nonsense where characters aren't allowed to be good at more than a few things because if they did, supposedly the forced grouping model of gameplay would fall apart and dooooom.
In the movie, combat is mobile and fluid. Teamwork is executed not by having 7 squishy guys hiding behind one big guy taking potshots at the enemy, but by splitting up and tackling various enemy threats. You can see from the way Cap splits up the team how the roles that characters fill are tactical rather than MMO holy trinity ones. While they vary considerably in the magnitude of power they wield, all of them are competent combatants alone and all the characters with ranged attacks get involved in extended melee combat at least once.
If you wanted to make Rikti invasions more like the movies, here's an idea - have a ground battle and an air battle. Rikti are teleporting in and heroes fight them off on the ground, but they're getting bombed all over the place and taking heavy damage. So a squad of flyers has to get up there and kill some dropships. The more dropships the flyers kill the fewer bombs fall on everyone else.
We can't fly a bomb through a portal...we can't have one person close the portal (ending the invasion for others). We can't jump on "ships" to take them down.
However, if you're on a team...you can tackle various threats. Have some stay and fight the main invasion point...and have others take out the bombs being scattered. You can have members fighting a spawn here on the ground...and you can have members fighting a spawn there on the roof. You can also fly around assisting various members of your group.
That being said...I can deifnitely see how a much better version can be created if it were done as a TF or trial.
Maybe have it so that certain things need to be done within the same time frame...forcing a need to split up the team to accomplish them.
Have the different things structured somewhat like the Hami in a way. Where certain things are more effected by ranged attacks, while others need melee...with things needing to be held. (while still being able to be accomplished without the certain needs). As a way for everyone to have their moment to shine. -

What exactly is the difference between what happened in the movie...and what happens during a Ritki invasion?

Taunt.
When I first got it...it was very cool...being able to control the agro like that...keeping all the enemies attention.
Then, after many missions, arcs, TFs, etc...it became the single most boring power.
I still use it...as it is still extremely useful (mechanically)...but I absolutely hate it. It's such a ridiculous power...terribly immersion breaking...but unfortunately a necessary evil for those wanting to tank. -
I used and liked Hand Clap...especially for concept reasons. I only respec'd out of it for min/max purposes.
The best use I got out of it...was in building missions (or where ever else this occured)...where spawns are spread out just enough to be out of footstomp range. So I would run to the initial group and hand clap them back into the group behind them to get the most out of aoe. (since Brute Taunt only gives the initial target -range and not all 5 enemies).
That was the only actually (mechanically speaking) use I got out of it beside it being very conceptually friendly.
I can't remember ever actually needing the power for any "breathing room" purposes.
That being said...if I could take just one more power for my build...it would be Hand Clap. -

Quote:I'm the opposite as a Tank. This may speak pretty badly of my personality...
But whenever I'm tanking and someone gets overzealous with their powers, I'll let them go at it, get insta-killed by the spawn, and THEN go about my normal tanking moves. :P
Getting their rear handed to them typically helps them understand that they're doing something wrong.
I like the times when everyone can just go crazy with powers and have fun without needed any sort of tanking strategy.
I just go in and unload damage with everyone else and taunt when needed.
I play a character with tanking abilities to keep the team alive and control the situation when needed...not to be the center of attention.
Also..."getting their rear handed to them" typically means you're doing something wrong as a tank. -
Quote:Couldn't agree more...especially with the fact that we can shut off xp gain. No, never going to buy one. Indeed, it's easy enough to level.
That said, I hope (for the sake of people who said that) the whole "I turn off XP" or "it should be made harder" is hogwash to look cool on the forums, because I can't possibly understand this reasoning.
I mean...if you think you're leveling too fast...shut it off...and let others have fun with the regular leveling speed.
Don't try to get something changed just because you don't use the tools at your disposal.
I will never understand the "want" for less options in this game. -
I wish the hulk model would have been closer to the 2008 hulk. He seemed to clay-like in the avengers.
That being said...these are just nitpicks to a good movie. -
Quote:My one problem was how the hulk was portrayed with gorilla like mannerisms...even to the point of walking with his feet and fists at one point.This. Saw it last night and it's just an excellent action movie. There are some small Josh Wheldon-esque things in it but they're for the most part pretty funny.
My favourite thing about the whole movie was Banner / Hulk. Mark Ruffalo is excellent and the character finally gets to be fun for a change (with some pretty dark one liners thrown in by Banner as well along the way).
Also...Hulk punching Thor was funny as hell...but I really wish they would of left it out of this movie...to keep it a more serious tone. -
All I got to say is...I f***ing lost it when I read the line... "you've been hit by, you've been struck by, a smooth criminal".

What exactly is the "20%" that you don't like?
You seem to have everything you say you wanted...are you looking to just raise your other types of defense besides s/l? -
Quote:Your prediction?.................................................. ..
So nice to see that my prediction for the sequel villain was right.
You said here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=288166 that you read the rumor on other sites.
Anyways...can't wait to see this movie. -

Is there a way to make a catalyzed ATO non catalyzed?

Quote:It seems like the Tanker AT is not for you.You know what gets old? Being able to stand up to things easily but not being able to muster the damage to wreck them. That's not powerful. Snails aren't powerful. Turtles aren't powerful (unless they're ninjas). A Tanker that can stand in front of a GM isn't any better than being a Stalker in Hidden and using /e batsmash on an AV for all the good it does.
That is what they are designed to do.
For some people...being able to stand up to things easily is what they consider powerful.
That being said...I rerolled my Tanker as a Brute as soon as they came Hero side...because I like being more well-rounded instead of just having superior survivability.
To each thier own...but you should definitely use the AT that fits the playstyle you're looking for...because the Tanker AT clearly does not fit the playstyle you seem to want. -
Quote:Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.954I'd like to see a version of that, actually. Note that I'm not likely to ever get purpled IOs, so if the budget for getting 45% s/l is too high then I probably won't ever achieve it. Also, this build was somewhat of an experiment to see how far I could take the regen aspect of willpower.

Your lack of defense will make your regeneration bonuses not worthwhile.
You can "easily" make a build with 730% regen (with 1 enemy fueling rttc) along with 45% s/l defense. Which is not that much of a difference from your 753% regen. -
Quote:I feel bad for the people who seem to have had this experience. The very first time I played a game that had PvP (this was before CoH had it) I thought I'd give it a try.
I discovered some things that day:
1) Profanity-laden juvenile trash talking was both annoying and apparently the accepted norm.
2) The concepts of sportsmanship and fair play (two things featured in every single competitive real world endeavor) simply do not exist in MMO PvP. And even suggesting that they should is regarded as complete heresy.
3) Numbers 1 and 2 were deal breakers for me.
Since then I have found that pretty much every single PvP community in every single game is like that. So I stay away.
I know that before the changes...I was in RV everyday on the Protector server...and the PvP environment was the opposite of what you describe in numbers 1 and 2. -
The aforementioned changes is why I no longer pvp.
I was in RV everyday before those changes were made.
