I was here before the market (even if not by much) and by no means do i need the market still here to play. It is nice to be able to buy other peoples surplus stuff though. -
In the morning: Coffee. Travel mug sized. Sometimes in the afternoon on Sundays too.
At night if i am on: Juice, water or milk. I have been known to place a bunch of ice cubes in a tall glass, then pour in equal measures of Bailey's Coffee Liquor and milk. NOM! -
*deftly catches meatballs in a line on herb and cheese, garlic bead. Noms. Tosses Key Lime Pies randomly around room.*

When slotted in a low damage, fast recharging attack, it wins. Simply put, any tier 1 or 2 melee attack, brawl or boxing.
-
I have a vampire concept who is a Dark/kin/Ghost Widow corr that flies and has stealth. FS'd Moonbeam is so fun!
-
No. I want to play Global Thermo-Nuclear War.

If you have any villains on your team that have done The Crystal of Serafina SF, they may still have the Enchantment of Serafina temp power. This adds Psi damage to ALL your attacks and triggers in an AoE. Last time i did a LGTF, this helped us drop him pretty quick.

I have been playing for a year now and worked really hard and still do not have a 50
[/ QUOTE ]
I just finished soloing a toon to 50 in about 5 months by playing, on average, 5-7 hours a week. All i did was run story arcs. The XP rewards, specially with XP smoothing, are MORE than enough.
If 'Farming' was against the rules, then enemies shouldnt spawn in groups of more that 2. Ever. Since i kill Romans on the wall in Cimerora over and over and over again, does that mean i should have my account suspended for being a farmer? -
Heck, i'd just be happy if i could change the colour of my MM's minions.

SB's a great buff, and ideally we'd have a situation where it was quick and enjoyable to put up, rather than something that feels like a chore for so many people.

"but it doesnt have to be a chore" seems pretty much the gist of our arguments. Just because your a kin doesnt mean you absolutely have to keep SB up on everyone in the team at all times. If you enjoy that playstyle, then go nuts, but ultimately its your call. It would be nice if it was a PBAoE, yes, but i knew what i was getting in to when i rolled the toon. -
Farming is also not just done in missions. I have spent countless hours beating up Romans on the wall in Cimerora. I'm sure there are others who go into the hazard zones in CoH and 'farm' the mobs there too. Would all those spawn be removed so people cant farm them?

I love playing my /kin, but maybe its just a feature of the people i team with (mostly PUG's actually) that by level 50, they all seem to have no end problems and have slotted their toons in such a way as they dont NEED SB. Dont get me wrong, attacks coming up faster is a nice thing to have, but as well as a 70% +rch boost, i can give the whole team a +200% damage boost and deal out a few thousand damage myself.
That said, if someone's end is getting low and i have a moment i will SB them (or hit transference if its up), and anyone in Granite gets it out of courtesy. If someone gets in over their head and starts yelling "SB PLZ!" while i'm doing other stuff, they can wait till i'm done. If they die, i have veng, so the rest of the team can benefit from their stupidity.
Teams dont have to be "ZOMG WE KILL THAT MOB .9205 SECONDS FASTER IF WE ALL HAVE SB" for me to enjoy them. My advice to anyone expecting to be perma SB'd is to go buy a second account, roll a kin and make some macros.
I play this game for me, not to be a buff-bot for others. You dont like it? Find another kin. No-one has ever booted me from a team for playing like this. -
I had eggs with herb & garlic cream cheese on my toast this morning.

I'm curious how many months it took you to get to 50. You didn't mention it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think it was about 6 months. Have not checked how many hours of actual play it took though. -

I still listed for 11 in this case and was constantly amazed when people would still pony up over 50K for it. -
According to MIDS, damage/end on an UNSLOTTED brute's Death Shroud is 8.34. NOTHING from Mace, SS, Stone or Axe primaries can match that. That means that from an endurance standpoint, if you have any one of those primaries, you are better off taking DS that any of the attacks from your main set. Of the rest of the primaries, Fire Melee is the only one who's tier 1 and 2 attacks do more D/E.
In terms of DPS, unslotted and un-debuffed auras do less than pretty much all single target and cone attacks, but more than the PBAoE's.
So basically, UNSLOTTED, they kill slower but at much less end drain then other attacks. This means if your toon has more problems with end than health, take the aura. If their green moves more than their blue, skip it. -
SwellGuy: Your either more aggressive on the market or just plain luckier than me
To Ion: I based my definition of 'Casual player' on the amount of and duration of time i played per week. 5-7 hours per week is perfectly reasonable as a mid range. Less than that i would consider an 'occasional' player. The respeccing for full DO/SO value was something i learned way back before I9 and before we had a market to make cash with.
To Fulmens: At no point was i actively trying to make money. I killed stuff for cash and sold everything i didnt use. Below 30 there just arent many recipes that sell for alot and the amount you get for killing stuff compared to how fast you level isnt enough to keep you in the green. It was also before the salvage on the market had dried up and prices were still low. That said though, my Widow found a nice little niche and was sitting on about 5 mil by level 20 -
So i just finished my little experiment i had going by soloing a character (dark/dark/ghost widow brute) from 1-50. My rules were quite simple:
- Play like a casual player playing at odd hours might. I was on for about an hour most mornings just before the server shutdown and occasionally on weekends for a few hours. I didnt team at all, except for a sharkhead sf and a treespec. I was not at max level for either of these and so was getting XP the whole way through. I didnt find it inconceivable that someone might do 1 SF and 1 treespec on their way to 50.
- Using Veteran respecs and freespecs, i respecced at 27, 32 and 37. So when the majority of my SO's were about to expire i could get FULL VALUE from them and get a nice shiny new set.
- Starting from level 30 i would craft any common IO's i had that i had the salvage for. From level 40 i started crafting any Set IO's i had, buying salvage as necessary. All rare salvage drops i got went straight into storage until needed. Its almost full. All enhancements were sold to the appropriate vendor. All common IO's and common and uncommon salvage were listed on the market for 11. For set IO's, it was a case by case basis. For the common trash, 11. For the in demand stuff, i charged what the market would bear. I would also check the crafted prices and see if it was worth it to craft then sell. At 50, all i have left on the market is some mid 40's trashy set IO's.
So what is the result of my CASUAL PLAYER experiment?
Total merits earned - 382
Liquid assets on hand - A shade over 65 million inf. Large thanks to AE for this as common salvage was listed for 11 and selling up to 250K in some cases.
Brokest period - 22-26. Salvage prices were still down and i was trying to afford SO's.
So there it is.
#1) because, well i found it interesting that with all the doom and gloom that so called casual players are throwing around these days, i was able to quite easily play the game and make money.
#5) I made 65 mil just by playing the game. Who'd have thought...
Implied #7 - You now who i'm aiming this at, i just wont mention them coz my fireproof suit is at the cleaners..
#9) 65 Mil is enough to kit out a toon nicely, or enough capital to become an EBIL marketeer. Or both
