  3. The trouble with CoH/V is they used the word 'Archetype' as their classes, and the two are not usually the same in games.

    Most suggestions seem to be hybridization and that's not a real 'new AT' to me because if you look at games with hybrids, they always build to fall into an existing AT while taking advantage of some hybrid function to gain leverage over the purist of that AT.

    The tank/mage hybrid classes for example usually build as a tank AT and grab specific mage self buffs to make them more resilient vs some types of attacks than a regular tank. People don't subclass their warrior into mage or healer to shoot crappy spells, they do it to get a buff, a shout, a self heal to solo with, some utility, or a debuff that stacks with their weapon like making an opponent be knocked down to use a melee skill that does extra damage vs enemies that are knocked down.

    People tunnel visioning on CoH/V think they are 'missing' that class, but it's really just being done in the opposite direction. We have different power sets to pick from within a preformed AT with different strengths and weaknesses. We have the same options, we just pick the AT ahead of time instead of spawning as a class and building towards an AT.

    We also hybrid just as well as most games do through epic/ancillary/patron pools. Most games don't let you fully nuke at range like a boss while still being as tough and offensive as a regular melee. CoH can do a tough character with a few blasts, or a blast character that hits some decent defense marks, again, preformed AT's picked ahead of time instead of built towards while leveling, but the same end-game options and not a 'missing class'.








    The only actual ARCHETYPE missing that I can think of is the melee support AT.

    Paladin being the classic fantasy example with no universal equivalent for other settings. They are fighters which also support in ways that make sense for a fighter.

    CoH implementation would be PBAoE buff toggles which don't interrupt their meleeing to make them reposition or retarget, very strong heals that let them be meaningful next to purists, but on a timer that prevents them from building and taking over that 'healer' AT.

    And they would need something linked to melee... think something like StJ's combo system where finishers at 3 combo points are support actions rather than damage actions, or support actions that cost endurance but endurance starts at zero and is built up by attacking in melee. (or some new AT specific resource)







    As for the pet class AT suggestions, I think the MM is more flexible than people give it credit for. There is no universal cosmic law that says all future sets for the MM must follow the 3/2/1 tiered system mixed with buffs and ranged attacks. A few edits to descriptions of the AT might be needed for lore purposes, but that's all that stands between the devs and adding differently structured primary sets.

    You don't even need to fool with the secondary sets because the pets can fill in whatever the primary set is missing. For example, if you felt a primary set needed armor powers like a melee character, you can just have one of the pets cast armor buffs on the MM. Need them strong? Make the buff cast ONLY on the MM and not other pets/players so it's not overpowered. Lots of room for this conversant to go in lots of directions.

  5. I'm also looking for something to pair with kinetics.

    The top of my list were Dark Control and Plant Control because they have multiple pet powers, ranged AoE holds, fast confuse animations, and they can take their single target hold at lv1 instead of lift/crush.

    For blasting on a Defender or Controller I like Radiation Blast simply because of the defense debuffs helping with your chance to hit. IIRC radiation burst is -37% in one shot. Plus X-Ray beam just looks cool!

    None of these seem quite right to me though. I think I'd be happiest if they ported it to Masterminds. Pet commands don't interrupt you busying yourself with kinetics, and there are certain pets that blow out their endurance, the knockback protection would be welcome, and AoE buffs suit the pets perfectly. As popular as fire/kin was and as much trouble as a melee pet set like ninjas can be, I'm really surprised that MM's didn't have Kinetics at launch and astounded they don't have it by now.
  6. I think the hard part about sorcery is the magic origin. When they put in... titan weapons for example: all it takes is a handful of weapon options to satisfy every origin. Radiation blast can come from any origin the player wants to convey with a costume.

    Things like Sorcery, Power Armor, or Shape Shifting really lean hard on some origins and not others. This probably lowers their attractiveness to a dev team trying to select what to put out next to satisfy lots of people.
  7. I'd love a sorcery type set and I do think that's a valid hole in what's available.

    The 'interrupt' mechanic is not well explored, but it's a niche some gamers like. Risk vs reward, more work to get a higher pay out. A casting wand waving staff swinging ritual that's interruptable, but has excellent range and high damage. If you solo carefully or the team has their stuff together it's overpowered, if things come off the wire you're hosed. XD

    Can't say I agree with the speed set. There are already sets and ancillary pools to make tornadoes, become intangible, or do a cone shaped knockdown. Every attack set can make a non-stop chain and the speed pool already helps recharge.

    We don't have a water set either, but I've made a water sprite magic character that looks fantastic. We don't have a lot of things people play every day. Speed is a character theme that -IMHO- you could do with existing power sets, speed pool powers, the power customization system, and some imagination.
  8. My mains use my forum name, but my alts are all elemental themed sprites using variations on the name Veekz (People have seen my main name and called me Veek as a nickname, and I thought it sounded feminine so it became my standard random female alt name.)

    Veek is supposed to be my air elemental.
    But I see it's taken on Freedom.
    I have it on Virtue... if you wanted to do a trade.

    The rifle works fine for beam rifle IMHO.

    Pistols also. Maybe at lv4 they would look strange, but once you've got swap ammo and you're running any of the toggles, the pistols would be fine. Heck doing bullet rain with cryo ammo would look more reasonable coming from those than from semi autos!

    On a related note:
    DP set animations have the slides moving back on the pistol. I say 'animations' because you'll notice the same pistols do NOT animate their slides in the thugs power set. It's reasonable to speculate that the devs have some kind of trigger to animate their pistols when doing those attacks, and we may see glowy rings or something when we fire.

    Just speculating, don't get your hopes up, but food for thought.

  11. I've seen a few threads about pistols turn into threads about asking why we're not getting different pistol animations, like those from Thugs, which are less ridiculous. After reading a few such threads I decided to try a pistols blaster just on a whim, and check this out...

    I don't want the thugs animations, I want new animations like the thugs ones, but with moving slides... and this is potentially the answer to why we can't have a direct port of thugs animations. Someone upstairs is probably saying 'quality must improve and move forward, not backwards!' so we can't be given weaker animations with no moving slides...

    And I'm okay with that. My standards went up immediately, and I no longer want thugs animations. I want new less ridiculous animations WITH MOVING SLIDES. XD

    I love the pistols set, and I would do a pistols blaster or corrupter in an instant if they would port over some less ridiculous animations. I don't care if the set looked 'boring' or 'not super' there are plenty of examples of characters that just shoot people. Spawn, Punisher, ...

  13. I'm curious who else is holding a character slot, or slots, waiting for something to be added to the game.

    Please don't use this thread to bump whatever your latest cool idea was. Just tell me about something you've actually been holding off a character for. Do you have a name reserved, a slot left empty, a costume saved, or anything like that just waiting for a certain power set or type of set?

    I would really like to do a Kinetics character, but no second power set hits me right for any AT. I have a name set aside for when some new blast or control set comes out that has a power or two that just jumps at me and I can make my kinetics.



    I may be totally alone in this, but to me the Dominator AT DEMANDS a weapon attack set of some kind. Pistol+Melee weapon, or a VEAT style 'shooty' melee weapon or 'hit them with it' ranged weapon. Demon MM style whip attacks. Something like that.

    It just reminds me of those characters like Spawn taking out 'minion' level enemies with ease and then having to go for the chains and powers on tougher things. You always see that in super hero media. Everyone can contribute vs the easy stuff, even the 'squishy' super heros and then they fall into their AT's against the boss. I would love to have a melee/range mix weapon set and then lean more and more on the dom powers in larger settings vs harder enemies.

    IMHO, just pick what you like thematically, join DFB groups, and do not level up past 8 so your stats don't adjust down. You will be 25 in an evening and have all your toys with whatever set you want.

    The only one I'd warn you off of is Super Reflexes because it has no taunt aura and it's status protect is a clicky you need to perma. It's not terribly hard to make permanent, but I still don't like the format.

Invulnerable is fantastic, but it's aura effect (for taunting lots of enemies around you) comes late and does no damage, it's self heal is a +max hp skill that's on an extended timer and is unreliable until you have a ton of -recharge, and your resist sources have small base amounts that don't shine until much later.

    Willpower is a similar story, with health regeneration effects instead of healing.

    They are the best sets, if you view your primary as an entire set at the end game, but aren't as fun -IMHO- if you view it as a path.

    Of the two, I would go Invulnerable because of Unyielding. You will want your knockback protect and/or status protect up all the time and Unyielding gives you some resistance to go along with it.

    No... I understood all that long before this thread was started, it was just never relevant. The first time you articulated it you were talking about multiple additional hair options being made which the original poster never was.

    Now that you've taken that part out your original reply you're defending is no longer reasonable because nothing needs to be 'remade' only removed, a part cut off of a second copy of an existing work, and it's not unreasonable at all to ask for a selection of the old hats to be duplicated without hair. Lots of other pieces in the CC have 'with plate, without plate' and things like that.

    I think it's a reasonable request, and I'd especially like to see it for girls because I know I'm not the only one who hates seeing the dangley hair clipping with EVERYTHING.
  17. If you're okay with dropping a few bills in the cash shop, I hear lots of good things about Street Justice and it's a little more interesting to play than a usual click set.
  18. If you want to enjoy the ride all the way through, I would recommend a set with a knockback protect toggle or passive (as opposed to none, or a click power that won't be perma), a damage aura which helps taunt late and dps early, a quick self heal, and no endurance headaches.

    Electric Armor, IMHO.



    For offense, electric melee will make end a non issue and has lots of novel powers like the chain attack and of course the teleport lightning strike attack. Some people don't like the animations on the core powers though. Thunder Strike is really slow to fire IIRC and might get annoying. Take a look at them in the custom powers screen and see what you think.
  19. He didn't ask for more hair options, he asked for the option to NOT have hair, which is reasonable because they have already put in lots of heads that would not be expected to have hair on them.

    IMHO, this could be fixed with a few new detail items that wrap around the entire head, covering the hair on standard hats. A thick headband/eye mask (natural), an intricate metal piece for tech, etc.

Don't think we need to be as technical as we're getting here, but yeah I agree Kinetic Assault should be done and given the ranged slant it seems to have for a melee set (Even the PBAOE is 'casted' downward) I don't think it's a stretch to assume this is either in the pipes already or was designed to leave this wide open for proliferation later.
  21. I think I'd be most interested in bone jewelry.

    There's a big gap in costume pieces right now in the form of jewelry. You always see comic characters with stories including jewelry. Everyone who serves the hero wears a certain ring, the side kick that's given a pendant protect them from X, etc. We need a few rings and pendants for each of the origins IMHO and bones/animal parts will do magic very nicely.

    If we're assuming cave/jungle people costume pieces already, we might stretch it far enough to see some headhunter gear like back pieces with stacks of skulls on pikes, which would fit any villain just fine.

  22. The quantities are not arbitrary. They are chosen to make you end up with extra change and encourage you to hit certain thresholds of spending.

    They could cut up the denominations right down to a formula that would let you buy any quantity you want with the proper discount and just type in how many you want if it was that simple.

    Don't get me wrong, feedback is meaningful. If they get the impression they could make more money by tweaking the denominations then they would, but that would be why, not because you want flexibility, and flexibility must not equal more money for them or this would not be the standard operating procedure for a cash shop to begin with.

    In some games, depending on how key presses are prioritized, I can type chat while moving with WASD, with more eloquence than most players bother with while standing still.

    Not because I'm a show off, but because timing is important in games with static spawn locations so early in the round you want to communicate without losing ground, and typing during a fire fight makes the other guy try to do it too, and then you shoot him. XD
