I suggested as my example rebinding 9 and 0, to Q and E respectively. If you can hit 1-6 with your left hand now, you can hit Q and E. With alt modifier you already use that's +4 keys. With CTRL it's +6.

I use WASD to move. If you don't that gives you W between QE. Three keys by three modifiers is an entire powerset without doing anything you didn't say you already do. Add in R, which is easier to hit with either modifier than 5, and you've got 4x3=12 new keys.

I don't see how the right hand is relevant unless you're just trying to segway into telling us all about your underground hipster control scheme we've probably never heard of.

Personally, I don't usually go past 4. I'm an action gamer and in most shooters I don't even use numbers to change weapons. I'll switch ONCE with numbers and use a 'last weapon' key if the weapons are too far apart scrolling with the wheel. If when playing an MMO I can't get away with 1-4 and Q/E with modifiersl (6x3=18 buttons) I give up #1 to a rotating macro, occasionally using 5 for unusual skills, but mostly using only the five buttons (including QE, which are rebound 9/0 slot keys -NOT- binds so they also rotate) per bar very carefully chosen.

Bar 1, #1 = Macro to go to bar 2.
Bar 2, #1 = Macro to go to bar 3.
Bar 3, #1 = Macro to go to bar 1.
    (Simple Loop)

You can also do this with assassins to do your positional from stealth that you don't use again.
Bar 1, #1 = Macro to go to bar 2.
Bar 2, #1 = Macro to go to bar 3.
Bar 3, #1 = Macro to go to bar 4.
Bar 4, #1 = Macro to go to bar 2.
(Manually click to 1 with your assassin moves, use them, cycle to 2, and now you're looping between your combat bars.)

If that trips you up, you can also loop just two bars using specific buttons.
Ranged and melee bars for example:
Bar 1, #1 = Macro to go to bar 2.
Bar 1, #5 = Most commonly used ranged attack
Bar 2, #1 = Most commonly used melee attack.
Bar 2, #5 = Macro to go to bar 1.
So this way you don't even need to keep track of what bar you're on. If you need a melee attack you double tap 1 and you'll do it, even if you were already on bar 1. If you need a ranged attack you double tap 5 and you'll do it even if your on that bar already. Once you know you're on the right bar, you continue as normal with the other ranged or melee skills on it.

You can set up similar loops for alt+, and ctrl+ bars (3 bar loop, x3, = 9 bars. CoH/V gives you 10 so you'd still have a clicky box) or you can have the macro on the first bar also cycle the top bar, though the command to cycle the alt bar is not known to me the system is robust and I have no doubt it's possible. Combining the cycling of both (or all three) bars will give you more buttons because you only need one key (#1) rather than three to cycle with, but they will limit you to only very specific combinations since they don't cycle independently.

Some games can use shift as an additional modifier, as well as ctrl+alt, ctrl+shift+alt, ctrl+shift, and alt+shift. Because I play shooters these are counter-intuitive to me because mentally I consider shift a sprint or walk key, and a double modifier is not realistic when moving with WASD because it rules out moving in certain directions when you're hitting three keys at a time, but if you're an MMO player with none of these concerns you could get real sophisticated.
  2. Go into keymapping and change keys from numbers to letters.
    Every time I make a new toon 9/0 -> Q/E, and ALT+9/0 -> ALT+Q/E.

I still do not play a pistols character PURELY because the animations are outrageously silly. I would even go for the Equilibrium stuff like Hail of Bullets and Dual Wield, but Bullet Rain and Piercing Rounds are just so completely Bugs Bunny (and they're key powers I wouldn't skip) that I just don't want to make a character that would do that.
  5. I still refuse to do archery in a game where the string goes through your farm when idle, and I played an archer in DAoC where the graphics weren't good enough to even give the bows strings at all!

The trick here is that if it can be traded that's pretty much the same thing. Players will consider it an inconvenience in trading a thousand times before one person considers it a good idea for stopping people from paying to win, and it won't actually do that since people will just spam /h that they're selling them and people will buy them that way.

I think we've got it lined up right already with the merit system. The high end ones are no-trade and must be gotten yourself, and can't be bought or converted upwards AFAIK. Whatever new enhancements they roll out next should -IMHO- be aquired only through those if they're worried about P2win etc.

  7. I was so, SO proud of this costume. Still my favorite character I've customized from any game I've played... and I do not use it... I can't sit and play a melee-only character. My male spider has evolved over time and settled into a bane build that is just exactly everything I want from a melee character and has a grenade launcher plus mace blasts, and everything else I want to do doesn't fit this costume at all. The name is used for my fire blaster, who does crazy and colorful, not majestic.

Free to a good home. :3

  8. You can already buy every IO set in the game with real money.
$ -> Super packs -> Sell stuff for INF -> Buy whatever you want from the AH.

This is something EVE online has struggled with for a decade. People see this very simple formula of currency conversion and they just black out. They go to that lower reptilian brain and argue blindly against it because they don't want to think their game can be bought out or that they could be so wrong... but it's true and it's simple.

For those who find this appalling:

Inflation is the Batman of video games.
Everyone hates it while it helps everyone.

The legit player is not SUPPOSED to have purple IO's if they can't find them. The purpose of a market is trade. So all it takes is one purple found and sold, to buy the one purple you need, regardless of the quantity of currency exchanged. Yes, some are worth more than others but they always would have been. If something is twice as rare or twice as valuable or twice as commonly demanded, it takes two sold to buy one of what you want, and again it would have been the same regardless of the currency number.

Meanwhile, currency does not leave a game system except by spending it at NPC merchants which have FIXED PRICES. If you sell a non-inflated Hecatomb for 50,000, you can buy an SO or two. If you sell an inflated one for 500,000,000 you -as said before- had to find or trade for it exactly the same as in an non-inflated market you can now deck out an army in SO's, and you did it for fewer items found (time/game play).

    Inflation hurts CURRENCY.
    NOT GOODS

    INFLATION

    HURTS

    CURRENCY

    Not goods.

So the people who grind and farm for currency rather than playing the game for it's rewards are the ones who can do less with their coin. The gold farmers who just want to sell people the currency behind NC soft's back have their bottom line fall through the floor as more time spent yields less useful amounts of coin... and the pay to win people trying to sell lower end items (ATO's from super packs for example) for higher end items (Hecatomb) have a larger coin gap to cross.

The only trouble is that inflation is a buzz word and people want what they want and they want it NOOOWWWWWWWwww. If they can't buy something they blame 'the game economy', and they have a seizure when they read the naughty 'I' word. Even though they have nothing to sell to get the coin in the first place and systems that lean on giving players currency are broken because of grinders, gold farmers, and P2win people reselling cash shop items.

That's the part with the vanity items that folks don't get. Folks actually BUY THEM.

  10. for DP/ it's about redraw really.

Kinetics is a super busy set so you'd mostly be throwing out those powers and not too many pistol attacks since you have to stop and pull the pistols out each time, but then it's worth it to stop and drop a Hail of Bullets after the other people AoE to try and put out some crazy AoE scourge. Go for that if you want to be mostly supportive but then drop a bomb sometimes.

Rad runs toggles and casts less frequently to rez and buff. Go for that if you want to shoot people, but even with /rad sometimes your team composition may require you to spam the PBAoE heal and you're right back to redrawing pistols for every one or two attacks.
  11. Also a returning player, can't offer first hand knowledge of DP but I wanted to let you know that end-game is all about set bonuses and they put a lot more -recharage and +Defense in the game now. Dual Pistols' final attack Hail of Bullets has no crash, buffs your defense, reduces the damage enemies deal, and is a HUGE AoE.

Defenders also have a new passive that gives them a damage boost when solo, get the biggest def/-res bonus out of Hail of Bullets, and you can take primary powers that also boost your defense like Force Field's Dispersion Bubble. Buffs like bubbles are also AoE now, so you don't have to buff your whole team, you just shoot them at someone near the middle or maybe have to buff two people if the team is spread out.

    I suggest taking a look at a FF/DP defender.

    EDIT---
Derp, not a general thread this is in /corruptors. Corruptors don't seem to get the defense bonus on Hail of Bullets at all... It's not there in the power description at creation like it is for blasters and defenders anyway. And they can't use Force Field... Disregard my stupid post. >.>
  12. Yeah I've got a contact I've been doing missions for.
He's pretty underground. You've probably never heard of 'em...

I'm not at home to go take a screenshot, but I just [s]Killed[/s] Arrested Crey in brickstown for Veekz Vex's third costume in the costume thread the other night, and I saw enemies in the full suit. Banded boots/gloves, armored top and bottom.

Can you go take a look, because one of us is crazy. :P
  16. No, I agree with Adelie. Dual Blades was the last 'new concept'.

Disintigration is a similar but weaker example, and momentum is more of a new kind of restriction than a new way doing anything. Pistol ammo was a neat idea but doesn't change how you play too much.

There are easy options like melee powers for a new MM set, or combos built into a ranged set just like dual blades uses. There are off-the-wall options all over the powers forums, too. The sniper/interrupted mechanic is still something the game has explored very little for example and could be used to simulate casting spells or balance really powerful ultimate skills on classes that face constant interruption like tanks and brutes.

I would also welcome more fresh ways to run a power set and I was very underwhelmed when I saw kinetic melee especially. Someone took all that time to do up a whole entire new set of slick animations and neat effects, just to make another rank and file melee set? :/

    New Rigs

My choice is for more bottom rigs. No-legs options like a hover pad or helicopter rotors would be neat. Spider legs. We have a four legged rig so centaur leg options can't be far off. Snake/slug/ghost type tails to stand on and slither around. You do however need whole new running animation for a lot of these because pumping your arms while a snake tail slithers would look silly. It might still work for centaur legs though...

I think the problem with 4-arm rigs is that everyone is stuck on the one common style of 'under' arms that stick out of the arm pits. I think it looks cooler and makes more sense for CoH to do the less common 'shoulder stack' where it's like a second shoulder muscle on top of the normal one, angled upwards and out, maybe with an extra clavicle.

When using a low animation set like AR, they would lean forward and be menacing. When reaching up like a psionic 'head touch' they would lean back and be out of the way.

But even then you run into issues with variation. What are the hands doing? Are you going to expect fifty options of what they're holding / wearing? Are you fine with them just cycling an idle animation and not actually doing anything? - Do the devs think that lives up to their game?

The Crab pack was a new rig similar to the four arm rig suggestions and the devs still take flak for what it 'doesn't do every day even though thematically it's perfect, no one is satisfied with perfect. They want fifty versions of perfect to pick from.
  18. They're already doing this. Tech Crey is in the game, there are weapon unlocks from Rikti, Tsoo, CoT, Marcone etc. Carnival sets are in there, and we got Circle of Thorns and Clockwork pieces put on the market when they redid the graphics for them.

I don't have it handy but I think there's actually a suggestion thread somewhere started by a red name specifically for requesting specific villain items be made accessible to players.
  19. I for one love it, even the sound is cool IMHO, but no one wants to hear a barking dog the whole time they play. It needs shut it's infernal yap after a cycle or two. I have put my Dak/Kin on hold to see what kind of options we get, and what other power sets come down the pipe next.

I think this is really two issues that play off each other.

    1) People don't communicate in-game like they do here. Lots and lots of other players I see simply refuse to interact at all. The lower levels where you get people looking for DiB and DFB are full of people like this. It varies from people who seem to read and pay attention but don't want to type much, to people who have probably closed their chat box all together.

    2) Leeching. I have long since lost count of how many times I kicked someone for going AFK for an entire map+AV of DFB, only to INSTANTLY get a tell asking why they were kicked. Less common but equally detrimental to keeping a good group going are the people who play like suicidal maniacs and then will lay there dead for five minutes asking for wakies when we've moved to the next section or hoping to level up when we finish the entire map and kill the boss. Some people will follow the group or auto-follow someone and not actually fire any powers. I've even had people decline team teleport and say they were 'lost' in DFB lol.

DFB/DiB are not one-shot trials you spend a lot of time on. They are good for doing multiple times and keeping a group together more like a mission team, and they are perfect for people without much time to play who want one GOOD run where they can get the badges, see what it's about, and log off.

I can't count on random players in a newly formed team to participate in a team vote. Call me names, call me an elitist who thinks he's 'better', assume I kick people who don't need to be kicked and call me mean, fine. This is the internet I can take a jab and some exaggeration put on me but the point stands:If I want to run a good group to repeat the trial and go smoothly for random people who join for one run, I have to boot leeches and people who refuse to read, and leeches and people who refuse to read don't participate in vote kicks. Thus I can not start a new PUG by running an open group or joining a random queue.

Until I get up into the 35+ levels I run my own groups or join only people who send me a tell that makes sense first, and I lock my trials because the randumbsâ„— are not messing up my game time.
  21. Think we need to add the roman octopus chest detail to a few art request threads!
  22. I'm not at home to check, but I'm about 80% sure you can do several of the newer auras on one hand only. I would start there.
  23. Makes sense.
    Brute it is.

Going to the store, will roll my brute upon return.
