    SR/Ice/Ice ...

I have a SR/Ice tanker that I made but I havent played him much yet. I keep hoping they will port ice melee to scrappers or brutes.

Anyway, if you are not power-leveling this guy, It will be a tough slog with so few attacks at low level. Looks rough. Bad rough. I myself like the ice swords, and hate frost, but took lt anyway because I needed another attack.

    Good luck!

  2. I would never drop Forge.

How about posting your build? Maybe someone can recommend a different way to both meet your goals *and* keep Forge?

    Lewis
  3. I think either choice would be fine. The 6% healing boost is pretty small. The regen and hp boost is more interesting, but unless you are focused overall on regen, it may not make much difference.

Anyway, see what other people say. Or just try it your way, and see if you like it. If you dont, then maybe you could respec later.

    Lewis
  4. I certainly intend to make both of those combos.

My first Dark controller may well be Dark/storm though. Gotta do it!

But Dark/Time should be well amazing, yo!

    Lewis
  5. You can stack single target holds. You can stack the aoe hold and hold/slow fields. Eventually with the defense buff and times juncture, you will be able to use the pbaoe stun safely.

  6. What game is coming out march 6? I am not anticipating anything. Well, guess I will go do a search.

But without that data point, I would guess March 6 as most likely, with Feb 28 and March 1 as possibe/preferable-to-me.

  7. I always assumed Penelope was 17-19 in faultline. She talked and acted a lot like my 19 year old ballroom dance partner does now, and my dance partner is 19, almost 20.

    So ... *shrug*

  8. All,

Even though it can be a bit irritating when people come on asking for builds ... it is still a request for help. I like helping people, and maybe 4 months from now someone will come on here and wish this were one of the threads where a build *was* presented. Lest that person, or the OP, be forced to move on, I will offer up a workable build that is functional without being silly/stupid-expensive, but which isn't cheap either.

Anyway, this build is very team-friendly. It isn't neutered in any way. It can also farm certain things if you want. It more or less does it all, within reason. It has 61.25% global recharge, which isn't a whole lot, but it is adequate for a good all-around build. The build has 43.8% smashing/lethal defense. It also has 36.6% ranged defense. The build includes Smoke, which can (in essence) make these defense values about 6% higher. I also left an extra slot with a generic resistance IO in Increase Density, in case you want to add 2-3 billion to the cost for the PVP global defense IO. That would bump everything up by 3%.

Also, note that MIDS doesnt support the ATIOs yet, but you can stick the non-catalyst version of the Will of the Controller set into this build in Fire Cages (instead of using Trap of the Hunter) and get something like 8.75% global recharge or whatever it is, without losing any ranged defense. If you take the time to collect 6 catalysts, you could upgrade the Will of the Controller set (but dont start until you have 6 catalysts as you lose set bonuses once its partially upgraded) and then you could squeak out an extra 1.87% ranged defense and an extra ... I forget, maybe an extra 1.25% global recharge by improving Will of the Controller.

MIDS also doesnt directly support the ability to use purchased enhancement boosters on individual IOs, but you could even shave a slot from Hasten with no loss by purchasing/using 10 total Enhancement Boosters on 2 level 50 recharge IOs in Hasten. You could shave Hot Feet down to 3 slots, and then put the 2 Acc/Dam/End IOs in there along with the single Armageddon damage/end purple IO, and use 15 total enhancement boosters on those 3 to get the numbers up. That'll save you 2 slots for ... well just about anything. I'd throw them on Char to get damage in it. Basically, there are other tweaky things you can do here.

Note that you could do other stuff too, like stick the purple Ragnarok set into Fissure, just for a billion or two influence, and eek out another 3.75% global recharge there. I'm pretty sure its not worth it, but hey.

In summary, this is a decent all-around fire/kin build that can perform in most settings (solo, team, incarnate, farming). It does have a high endurance cost, but hey, you are a fire/kin with transference, and if you are VIP you can get the incarnate Cardiac T3 and knock the end cost down a fair bit and get a level shift to help in general game play.

I hope people (including the OP) find it useful!

    Thanks,

    Lewis

  9. The bruiser gives me no problems. I fully upgrade him. I have no regrets.

There are several ideas for thugs/thermal that are not magic-related. Your mastermind could simply be another thug who was lucky enough to discover that he has mutant powers (thermal). You could even pick up the fire APP to match. A tech option is that you are a corporate weapons dealer for a shadowrun style organization. Your access to weapons lets you keep your bodyguards (the thugs) geared up, and access to esoteric weapons tech (thermal) gives you an edge on the street. For a natural origin, you could be an alien with natural fire (thermal) powers who picked up some followers, because you can make stuff go BOOM. A simple science background is that you were homeless and a shady company was rounding up people that nobody would miss, for the purpose of experiments to weaponize humans into bombs that could infiltrate, explode, and then walk away unscathed. It worked only once ... with you. You even walked away, but everyone at the facility was killed. You cant seem to repeat the explosion, but you did have parting gifts in the form of your thermal powers. The thug who helped you pull yourself from the fire thinks you are cool. I'm sure he will tell all his friends before too long, and you'll have your running crew of thrill seekers eager to be set on fire and eager to get into trouble.

    Etc.

    Lewis
  10. I second the vote for Fire/Willpower.

    Lewis
  11. I think Thugs/Time is pretty nice as well. You can stack your pbaoe defense buff (eventually power boosted, perhaps) with the Enforcer leadership defenses. You have AoE heals. Controls/slows. A buff for the Bruiser. Lots of stuff to do to keep you busy.

    Lewis
  12. After reading Sam Tow's comment, I have to say that I still prefer Hot Feet to emanate from my feet while hovering/flying. So if there is a new animation made for hotfeet with fly/hover, please allow us to select between the two.

    Lewis
  13. As for Cinders, my build is just shy of perma-hasten, so I guess the recharge numbers arent as big of a deal. I also suppose the extra 2 or 3 seconds of duration loss in not having a 5th slot acc/hld/rch might be ok. I do question the accuracy, given that at least half the time I use Cinders, it is an opener. The other half of the time, I have already cast freezing rain so acc isnt a big deal.

Still, losing that 5th slot for the acc/hold/rech concerns me. However, if you think +5 on the a/h, a/r, r/h and the quad would be sufficient, then that would rock.

I also wonder if I can get Hot Feet down from 4 total slots to just 3, maybe using a dam/end purple, and the 2 normal a/d/e IOs, all given the +5. I dont have Mids close, will check tonight.

If I can shave from both of those, I will be well set!

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  14. I definitely recommend willpower, if only to put your endurance issues behind you. 2 or 3 slot both stamina and quick recovery, then never look back.

As for a darkness aura, dont forget to look at unexpected choices. Omega or cryogenic could give a smoky/shadowed look. You could also do a jet black body or something, with a pale dark ble ghostly fire. If you are a tier 9 then the elemental sword of fire and ice might look nice in the form of a shadowy smokey blade of energy.

    Good luck,

    Lewis
  15. Nice tips. Thanks!

I was wondering something else. Am I correct in assuming that enhancing a "proc" such as steadfast global defense, miracle recovery, karma -knockback, etc, is entirely pointless, since the proc does not vary with level?

Also, do you think Cinders with only 4 basilisk gaze IOs, each given the +5 treatment, is sufficient for the power? I lean towards no, but I am looking for places in my build to skimp slots.

    Lewis
  16. Awesome! Thanks for the info!

    Lewis
  17. I am craving an Ice/SR Scrapper, a SS/Ice Brute, a Fire/Traps Controller, an Illusion/Traps Controller, an Illusion/Energy Dominator, and a Rad/FF Corruptor.

    Craving so bad ....

    Lewis
  18. What happens when you respec? I enhanced the accuracy-related IOs of the purple Absolute Amazement set, because the accuracy is not great in Flashfires (due to a built-in accuracy penalty in the power).

I want to do a minor respec where I swap out a pool power. But will I lose the enhancements to my +5 purples? Or do they stay on the absolute amazements so long as its a respec?

Basically, I heard that you can lose the bonuses, but unsure if its when you respec, or when you use an unslotter, or if it is simply untrue.

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  19. I got the black wolf on my second pack, though I didnt particularly want it.

I went on to buy a truckload of packs subsequently, but just because I wanted to give them a good whirl.

    Lewis
  20. OT,

    Rise of the Phoenix? Why?

Thanks to all for the responses.

    Lewis
  21. Doc_Rev,

I really like Bejeweling. Characters that I make like that, I tend to make them rogues. But yeah, very nice!

    Lewis
  22. All,

I have 2 questions I want opinions on.

    1) All things being equal (range capped near perma hasten plant/trick arrow controller) which ONE of the following unslotted powers would you take? Glue arrow, poison gas arrow, or fire armor?

I am leaning towards fire armor with a single end reducer, simply because my build currently has both PGA and GA and yet I rarely activate either.

    2) All thing being equal (earth/kin/stone near perma hasten with 1 siphon speed) would you prefer 45% smashing/lethal defense and only 18% ranged defense, or would you prefer 39% s/l def with 40% ranged def?

I lean towards the latter, but with the math of defense threshholds, that last 5% is painful to give up sometimes.

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  23. One of them should provide an extra LOTG mule in the default slot. The other I will skip. This will give me more slots elsewhere.

    But, yeah. :|
