  1. Hmm. That's a good point, but it makes me lean the other way ... towards Snow Storm.

On some teams, I operate purely at range. In that event, it would be nice to stack 2 slows without having to enter melee range. On other teams, I enter melee. In that event, it would be nice to stack AA with Snow Storm (toggle on a target in melee). Moving out a bit to cover everyone with shiver would be awkward.

So I should probably go with Snow Storm.

Ah well, I'll dwell on it and then decide this weekend (when I have time to do a respec).

    Thanks,

  2. I wonder if you try to reset the mission if Statesman will punch you in the back of the head?

Yeah, I noted that in the original post. Lots of the Epic and Ancillary powers in the latest Mids' are affected in the same way, but not all.

As for Range on Ice Slick, I dunno. I'm not normally a corner caster. I usually prefer to use short-term distractions and/or charge in with Hurricane and/or other knockback powers supporting me.

  4. Red side, I'd go with Sharkhead. The quests suck, and I hate the foes and plots there.

Blue side, I'd want to see Dark Astoria re-vamped. Independence Port is a close #2 but I'd have to go with DA.

Of course, if they really give it the GR treatment, then the foes will be too hard and will shrug off even more control than foes normally do, which would piss me off. So in a way I'd like to see it left alone. The harder content and higher resistance to control makes Praetoria a zone I'll probably never do again after I get my 3 initial characters through it.

  5. I just wanted to say I agree with this entire thread. Or all the pro-energy assault posts, which I think is most of them.

I have Earth/Energy at level 43, Fire/Energy at level 50, Gravity/Energy at 40, and I'm working on an Electric/Energy Dom as my first Praetorian.

    I LOVE Energy Assault.

Here is my dream build for Electric/Energy/Primal. Keep in mind that there is a bug in Mids' planner (for me) where Energy Transfer is taking PBAOE sets instead of Melee. So, I have an oblit set in the plan but in game I would have Crushing Impact for the same set bonus (in terms of recharge).

  6. I wouldnt drop anything from Electric except for Electric Fence. I would re-orient my thinking and my build around the idea of taking all the other 8.

The reason the Sleep is so good, btw, is that it is a pulsing sleep (just as Volcanic Gasses is a pulsing hold) and so it re-applies itself. So if you have things unable to leave the area (Electric Fences) and you sleep them and do damage, the sleep re-sleeps them really quickly.

Its an amazing power. The sleep is probably my favorite sleep in the game.

  7. Reptl,

I'm not sure how Chilblain would affect things, unless you just took it as a dump power or an AV-holding power.

I would love to be able to fit in the sleep but I'm not willing to drop my other powers. I like them all. Depending on who I am teamed with, I sometimes play at range, and I consider Shiver vital. I also sometimes play in melee range, and sometimes I play in a hybrid "rover" position.

The Ice Slick option isn't terrible .... it wouldn't be up as much as I'd like if I exemplared down, but then again it might. My purple set bonuses work if I have access to the power so the Immob would lend a 10% recharge to Ice Slick even when exemplared down.

Some part of me chafes at the idea of anything less than 3 recharge in Ice Slick though, especially since I try to make my builds slotted in the way I'd actually level them up.

I'll think about it, and in the meantime, I'll consider other advice as well.

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  8. But then you'd have to be all evil and icky.

I do see that the end drain in Mu would be cool. The rest is pretty meh, IMO.

  9. All,

I keep going back and forth over the years on which of these two "I have to take them" powers to keep in my build. My old Ice/Storm controller is my first real high level controller I ever had (40+) and I think my 3rd or 4th character to hit level 50, and so she has a lot of history and good memories. With that in mind, I'm planning for a perma-hasten or near-perma-hasten build for her.

I'm not sure which will be better for end-game content, Snow Storm or O2 Boost. Snow Storm will help with AVs and recharge, but for anything less, I go crazy with my other powers and dont really need it. For soloing and for fighting things with end drain, O2 Boost is best. But if I take O2 Boost, some part of me can't tolerate mererly putting 1 end in it.

If I go Snow Storm, it frees up 2 slots to make my perma-hasten easier by putting a LOTG in Hover and a 4th recharge on Hasten. If I go with O2 Boost, I can get numbers I like, but I can only hit perma-hasten if I go for a 5th purple set (the 4 I have for sure are relatively affordable ... kinda).

Anyway, I was just wondering which power you felt would be better between the two. I go back and forth on this all the time.

    Help?

Below I'll post the O2 Boost version of my build. Keep in mind that the latest Mids has a bug where the level 41 epic powers often seem to take the wrong sets. I had to put a posi blast in ice blast even tho I would actually put a Decimation there. Also this is the version that, to hit perma-hasten, I'd have to put the expensive ranged damage set in either Ice Blast or Lightning Storm. Bleh. But I'm close to perma without it.

  10. I think the best secondary for Electric Control is Radiation.

Electric Control definitely rewards being in among the bad guys. You've got the point blank endurance sapping/transfer toggle (and I wonder if the chance for stun proc would help here), and your pets more or less live in melee range, and you have the chain confuse power which clumps things up because they want to fight other. That gives so much reason to move into melee. Also, the sleep is up so often that its not entirely a bad idea to drop that on the group you are fighting as well just for more stuff to befuddle their AI, and then stand on top of it. Electric Fences can keep them from wandering. I dunno, its just melee-centric.

From Radiation, you've got a point-blank heal (Radiant Aura) that helps you and the imps survive in melee range. You have a toggle debuff to make foes miss, which makes your survival odds in melee higher. Accelerate Metabolism is a point blank buff which is perfect if you are going to be in melee, and it may give the Imps a damage boost (no longer gives recharge boost to pets). EM Pulse is also a point blank hold for emergencies, and since the point blank end drain from Elec Control is free, you might have an additional way to deal with the -recovery loss. Also, I'm not sure if the -resist from Enervating Field would help with damage procs in Choking Cloud, but that might be another synergy. Plus having the long recharge AOE hold in both the primary and the secondary gives a good reason to take both.

Finally, I think that the Earth Mastery set would be beautiful to combine with them. You have a massive single target punch which hits like a train and would be beautiful in melee. Then you have Fissure which is a very fast short range AOE that is perfect in or near melee range. It also has a chance for stun, which gives you more control especially with lots of recharge. Also you've got a hit point buff to help you in melee. Plus the earth epic armor is ugly but very nice for helping you survive in melee range against all the smashing/lethal that could potentially come your way.

Basically, Electric/Radiation/Stone is just about the best combo going, in my opinion.

Now, I'm also interested in /Force Field for the mez protection, and to a limited degree /Sonic for the mez protection and the 2 sources of -resist (and in both cases the primary's end drain can help support your toggles). I think those will be good combos as well.

I also think /Trick Arrow will be cool for all the -resist, the stacking/alternating AOE holds, the slows, the knockdowns, etc, but it could be an awkward match for some (for those who view Trick Arrow as being best at range). I still like it.

Even though it will suck I'm bound and determined to level up an Elec/Storm (though I'll probably skip Tornado for the build).

But bottom line is that Elec/Rad/Stone is the way to go.

    YMMV.

  11. I dunno. I've been taking my Earth/Storm and my Ice/Storm out to play a lot recently, at least solo. I haven't noticed anything wonky. I've also been working on getting my Earth/Energy Dominator over to hero side.

Animate Stone is definitely fine as far as I can tell. Dude is chucking rocks, getting in and doing melee, throwing more rocks, doing more melee, etc. I havent been watching him closely but he has been jacking stuff up when I've been busy doing my thing. That is for both the controller and the dominator.

For the Ice/Storm, I only played a few missions, but my kill rate seemed fine. I didnt look at Jack Frost too close though, as I was kinda daydreaming about a respec and firing off my own controls and attacks.

But Stoney is definitely working just fine so far as I've noticed.

  12. I don't. It is nice but not critical.

    Tesla Cage?

I really like the Tesla Cage animation and effects. I understand how it is to hate a particular animation though. It can be a deal-breaker. I just happen to be lucky on this one. I'd be fine with Shocking Bolt style animations also.

  14. I know this doesnt count, but I have a friend that pays for 6 or 7 accounts and he can multi-box it by himself. This isn't what you were looking for, but its kinda cool.

  15. I agree with the OP overall, but I'm still struggling without Stamina and so I can't wait for that.

  16. Earth/Thermal Controller + Ninja Blade/Dark Stalker

If you both dont have GR to be Praetorian together, then make the Ninja/Dark Stalker into a Katana/Dark scrapper

EDIT: switched away from Dual Blades since you've done one
  17. I've got multiple accounts with multiple characters on each server, and I've got 4 different computers I play COH from. I dont know why it happens but my character list sometimes just freaks out and someone will be in a different spot. Sometimes lots of them are in the wrong place. It is insanely tedious to correct.

It would be nice if there were a button that sorted characters based on alphabetical name. You'd press the button, click "Yes" or "No" to accept the sort, and if you click "Yes" then the characters are sorted alphabetically, with extra/open slots at the end of the list.

If there were an option to sort first by level and then by name, while still allowing others to only sort by one or the other, that'd be even cooler.

    Thanks,

  18. I agree with the original post 100%.

  19. I think it is less fun, but more fair. So I am all for the change.

  20. Well it could be another good place for slotting unique stuff, or whatever.

  21. Right but I am not at a place where I can log in.

But looks like the answer is no.

  22. All,

Can you make a level 1 Mastermind in Paragon City? Can you make a level 1 Controller in the Rogue Isles? Or do you have to go through Praetoria and/or the alignment system?

I'm enjoying Praetoria, but I just all of a sudden wondered if I could straight out make a Mastermind in Outbreak or whatever.

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  23. I wish they'd make an announcement that they see the issue and are working on it. Meh.

The store is definitely down, or at least when I log into the game (Pinnacle) my client tells me so. Good thing I made a character last night in Praetoria last night before it went down. I took the day off and I cant make any characters. I got lucky, because I can still play with the one guy I wasn't indecisive about.

    Electric Control

It does seem like Electric/Earth is the best combo. I think Electric/Psi would be great as well. However, I plan to go intentionally incompatible with mine just for fun. I'm going to make Electric/Energy. Hey, it is a concept character.

No doubt Elec/Earth has got to be amazing though.
