I'd like to add to that suggestion that it could be sorted by name, or level... I tend to like to sort by my characters level rather than alphabetical.

I am not bigoted for race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, or age... I do, however, have a big problem with stupidity, and stupidity knows no boundaries.
Several sorts would be useful:
- Alpha by name
- By level
- By last played
- By current alignment
and if we're veering into less-likely-to-be-technically-feasible sorts, I can imagine:
- By SG/VG rank
- By "you have market purchases/sales"
All these sorts could be reversible toggles, so clicking again would change A-Z to Z-A.

There is a viable workaround to the sorting issue. Yuo can tell the game how to position your characters by creating a file named "playerslot.txt" within your CoH program files under the folder for the account you want to utilize.

ok, for example..
Say my account ( to log into the game ) is called "primaryaccount" and I have characters named "Tanker Toon" and "Defender Toon" ( my apologies if anyone actually has toons named that.. ) on Champion and "Brute Toon" and "Stalker Toon" on Guardian.
Within your CoH program files will be a folder named "primaryaccount"
Within that folder ( also where your chat logs transcripts are located btw ) you can create a file named "playerslot.txt"
The format of this file ( just a regular text file using Notepad ) would be :
"account name" "server" "toon name" "slot position"
so the file would look like this :
"primaryaccount" "Champion" "Tanker Toon" "00"
"primaryaccount" "Champion" "Defender Toon" "11"
"primaryaccount" "Guardian" "Brute Toon" "05"
"primaryaccount" "Guardian" "Stalker Toon" "06"
By doing this you can specify exactly how you want your characters to be presented. For the above example then, when I log into Champion i would be presented with "Tanker Toon" at the top and "Defender Toon" at the bottom ( since the character slots run 00 to 11 then 12 to 23 then 24 to 35 ) and when I log into Guardian I would be presented with those toons in the 6th and 7th slots.
This file is pc specific so if, as one person said, you use mulitple pc's to play on you would have to create a file on each of those pc's. Also, since this does not affect any of these : (a) sublicense, rent, lease, loan or otherwise transfer the Software or the Service (or any part thereof), including without limitation serial codes; (b) modify, adapt, reverse engineer or decompile the Software, or otherwise attempt to derive source code from the Software; (c) create any derivative works in respect of the Software or the Service; or (d) otherwise use the Software or the Service except as expressly provided in this Agreement I do not believe it violates any aspects of the EULA thus making it a viable alternative.

I'd like it sorted by how often played the toon is.

I've got multiple accounts with multiple characters on each server, and I've got 4 different computers I play COH from. I dont know why it happens but my character list sometimes just freaks out and someone will be in a different spot. Sometimes lots of them are in the wrong place. It is insanely tedious to correct.
It would be nice if there were a button that sorted characters based on alphabetical name. You'd press the button, click "Yes" or "No" to accept the sort, and if you click "Yes" then the characters are sorted alphabetically, with extra/open slots at the end of the list.
If there were an option to sort first by level and then by name, while still allowing others to only sort by one or the other, that'd be even cooler.
