  1. Huh. All my villains are boring cop-outs that explain nothing.

    Oh well.

  2. Any of my characters who are motivated by greed or power are generally Rogues.

All my actual villans are insane. One is driven insane by immense pain levels, and so he doesnt want much, other than to lash out and destroy.

My only other villain is also insane. She is horrified by her condition (fire/thorns dom) and to a degree she is in pain when she uses the thorns. She wants to be normal ... and she wants to kill anyone who has powers but is still normal/beautiful. She actually is beautiful when thorns arent erupting out of her, but she is too unhinged to see that. As this point she is just too prone to fits of rage.

At some point, I plan to cross my dual blades/sr scrapper over and have him be someone who kills because to him it is high art, or fashion, or a performance. So he would be insane also. What he wants is to have his creativity and his sensations pushed to higher and higher levels in his quest for art, perfection and glory.

  3. Bug #2 definitely still occurs for my fire/trick arrow controller 100% of the time. When the imps are standing in the slick and it gets lit, they run to the edge.

  4. I dont think they removed fearsome stare because of a concern that it would be too much power. Stacking two fears is less egregious than many things. The article that came out for it said that it suited the primary more, which means they probably wanted to avoid identical powers. Or maybe they do consider it too good, and wanted to focus only on constructive reasons. I still think it would be fine. But frankly, I wont miss it since I will have a primary (any primary) filled with control and a secondary filled with debuffs.

    As for Poison ...

I think once you get the bitter taste out of your mouth you may want to revisit Poison. I used to loathe it on the masterminds I tried. But I feel that the Poison set is a lot like trick arrow, in that it is WAY better on a controller. Especially with the splash changes. With a control primary, the secondary is decent at keeping pets alive. Weaken and envenom will cripple opponents, and they recast quickly. Neurotoxic breath makes the enemies slower. When you get all these puzzle pieces working together, it can be quite nice. I like spreading slippery "you lose, I win" sauce all over a hearty casserole of control. I eat it right up. You should too. Well, after you get past that first bad run.

  5. I tend to avoid the ones that send me to another zone. I avoid ones with lots of DE if I am running a controller sometimes. I avoid knives of artemis if I can. Etc. I definitely ignore one good spider because it is tedious.
  6. I prefer the umbral wolf. Who cares if they have a german shepherd or a black wolf noncom pet. I never cast those. Ive already stopped bothering to cast the black wolf because its noncomm.

But an umbral wolf that rips stiff up? Yes, please! And thanks!

  7. Well, you can open at range, and then move in for some follow-up stun, and then just stay in close.

As for Dark Miasma, or Dark Affinity, I have had varied experiences as well. But when I think about the bad experiences, it is usually the *other* set that was the issue. I found dark/elec on a defender to be unsatisfying, but it was because of electdic blast. Played it to 50 but ... Yuck! I also dont like ninja masterminds very much, and sure enough, dark wasnt enough to save ninja for me. However, thugs/dark on a mastermind was a joy, and my dark/ice defender was much more pleasant to play than my dark/elec.

With that in mind, I think /dark affinity will be decent, even without the hold or fearsome stare. But I dont think it could redeem mind control, which I can never quite stomach for long. The only mind control character I ever really enjoyed was my mind/storm, and mostly because of storm. I think ice/darkaffinity would suck too, for me. It really takes *just* the right secondary for me to like mind, ice, or grav.

  8. MM,

What about Dark/Trick Arrow? Aren't you hardcore into /TA?

Thinking about the way all those controls would stack ... Things flopping in a burning oil slick whille phantoms and deathpuppy rip them up ... all those resist debuffs ... squee! Amirite?

No lie! I am in the process of re-working several perma-hasten builds back down to "only" 75% to 85% global recharge with 3-slotted hasten. It is enough. Everything else gets shifted to defense. I end up being much better off for my personal playstyle when using this approach.

Fire/Trick arrow is a lot better than it used to be. I played mine to level 50 back when a lit oil slick caused the fire imps (or any other pet) within it to get AI-locked. They would run to the edge of the slick and never move again within the same mission, even if re-summoned. Later some improvements were made such that they merely moved out of the slick but could still act, but as imps are melee only, they were still screwed. There are still some quirks but these days, the imps fare much better.

Anyway, fire/ta is otherwise a great set. My favorite aspect is opening with both smoke and flash arrow. They stack, and if slotted for to-hit debuff, they can total about 15.6% debuff or so on the enemy attack. I managed to get my controllers ranged, energy, and negative defense to 33% each, and I am only 3 seconds off perma hasten, without even touching incarnate slots. So basically, with smoke and flash arrow, I am range/energy/negative defense capped, and a defense inspiration on top can cap me to everything else.

Good times! And of course, with fire/TA you get control AND damage. Open at range with debuffs and control, then move in with hot feet, and fire imps, and fireball, to kill them in melee range while your oil slick arrow melts them and your resist debuffs help to pile on the carnage.

Anyway, I dont think the OP is looking for a controller, but /trickArrow rocks on a controller. I have plant/ta at 43, fire/ta at 50, earth/ta at 40, and mind/ta at 39. Its good stuff!

  11. Any word on how the sets will be priced for non-VIPs?

I am a VIP so I will get Darkness Control and Dark Affinity for free, but one of my friends wants to buy the two sets, or he may buy both. I am just wondering if it will be 800 or more points a pop, or if premiums can buy a bundle with both (or all three with Dark Assault for doms) in some kind of package.

We players would appreciate any info.

  12. How do XP boosters work, anyway? I never used one before. Arent they only 25% for an hour? Or is my memory off? Can you activate more than one at a time on yourself?

    Thanks,

    I need an Archer

I suggest an archery/dark corruptor. Or possible dark/archery on a defender.

You can just about cap, or get close to the cap, on ranged and smashing/lethal defense, and its easy to get aoe defense to 32 or higher. That doesnt even take darkest night into account. Then, the resist debuff is a long duration slow patch so you can just set it down and then simply shoot shoot shoot, and on the corruptor, scourge away!

Plus youd have all the controls and the heal etc for versatility.

    Lewis
  14. Well, if influence is no limit, he can afford to have both a PVE build and a PVP build on the switch.

Anyway, I like defense sets, but I never pvp. Maybe try broadsword/electric or broadsword/invuln?

    Lewis
  15. Yeah, I really want Dark/Poison too. *sniff*

  17. Will they go in jolting chain? I would think not. Might be neat in plant control's aoe immob.

  18. I will be making 4 dark controllers: dark/storm, dark/dark, dark/ff and dark/time.

I will also make fire/dark and illusion/dark controllers. Oh, and earth/dark.

    I also plan a few dominators: fire/dark, dark/fire, dark/energy, earth/dark, and possibly dark/dark.

I also vaguely want to make dark/poison and dark/rad controllers, but I am making too many already.

    Oh! And a staff/wp brute!

    Well CRAP.

Got the Black Wolf on my 1st pack of my second account. Dang asymmetry. Well, at least it was the account I am planning on making a Beast Mastery mastermind on, so that worked out.

  21. The OP definitely got lucky.

I dont want the wolf because I have 3 accounts, and having it on zero or three accounts is fine, but having it on just one or two accounts would kill my soul.

I wonder if I should buy some packs anyway tho, just to sell the ATOs for influence. I am broke in game.

    Lewis
  22. Nice!

I am not near Mids ... How long does weaken last? What about envenom?

Is 100 merits + 40 mil the cost to make 2 hero merits?

Anyway, I am flat broke (in game) so I cant afford the 20 or 40 mil per. If I get merits, I will have to use them straight up.

Wait. Why convert them? Arent they just normal merits? The kind where with 200 or 250 you can get a miracle or numina?

How do you/why would you convert them?
