Quote:I cannot say exactly what the buff is - but, please take a moment to read this: http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05...-from-the-mag/I'm still not 100% sure about this. What lead me to believe this might be happening was the section Cobalt quoted and what was written in the Wiki article. However, it seems someone made an edit only recently and specifically changed that part.
Before:
"Once Tyrant is below 50% health, a bar appears showing his "Favor of the Well", a number which directly affects his regeneration. If defeated players retreat to the hospital when Tyrant is below 50% health, it increases his Favor, granting him a regeneration buff."
After:
"Once Tyrant is below 50% health, a bar appears showing his "Favor of the Well", a number which directly affects his regeneration. Favor of the Well will increase by two points for every % of his MaxHP that Tyrant drops below 50. Similarly, Favor of the Well decreases by two points for every %MaxHP that Tyrant regenerates."
The fact it was edited out raises some questions for me about the accuracy of the information.
It's also worth noting that last night we ran 2 trials back to back with virtually the same league. The league leader specifically told people to stay out of the hospital. The first trial succeeded while the second failed. It was unclear how much of an influence staying out of the hospital had on his regen.
I have also read elsewhere on the forums that the level shift buff you get from the lights is called [Notice of the Well]. It says that it caps at 16 people. This would explain why on a 24 man league only some people were getting the shifts. However, I tested a 16 man league and the shifts were still highly variable. Overall it did not seem to make a difference. It was mentioned that perhaps pets are counting against the cap, but I'm fairly certain we didn't have any pets out at the time.
Other people have suggested that the buff is limited to the team of someone who took a light out. This has not been true for any of the trials that I've done. I've specifically spread out people dedicated to the lights across the 3 teams. Heck, I've even not gotten shifts after taking one out myself. Teams do not seem to influence this bug at all.
As far as I can tell, it's random who gets shifted and who does not, the length of time you might get shifted, etc.
Within the article, here's a quote.
Quote:(What control of a character's soul means here is that a defeated character needs to fight his or her way out of an astral limbo -- otherwise Tyrant tries to use that soul as fuel.) -
Hold the phone -- my understanding was that the catalyzed ATOs that give 10% bonus have a different bonus name than the purple 10% recharges..thus making it possible to slot them without rule of 5 being an issue.
Now, I could be wrong, I certainly have been wrong before, but I know I've seen it mentioned somewhere. -
Quote:However, if you are a pure Loyalist or Resistance having no intention of meddling in the affairs of the primemates...err primals, .....
Heh, loved the litte dig there.
To answer your question, I'm sure it's something they just overlooked. Will they fix it, or change it? I suppose if it became a rampant problem, they might. Otherwise, just try to be more careful.
heh, primates... -
Several have recommended the croatoa arcs - and that's a good thing.
There is an accolade called Geas of the Kind Ones. It's a fairly useful tool for when you're running low on endurance and your ToHit is debuffed. It decreases your defense, so make sure you have a luck handy to use with it. There are a number of things that you have to do to get it, and they are all in Croatoa. By going through the missions - you will gain credit for the various defeat X requirements. And in this case, X =333, so every bit helps.
Additionally, Buck Salinger is the contact who will unlock access to the Katie Hannon Task Force. (you can ouro that arc if you need to, or tag along on someone elses tf)
Another two contacts you shouldn't miss are Anton Sampson and Maxwell Christopher. You will want to have large teams for these missions so that you can fight the Fake Nemesis bosses to give credit towards the Unveiler badge, part of the requirements for Freedom Phalanx accolade. It's always more fun to clobber the bad guys in missions and get xp for them, than to go back and do it later when you're 8 levels higher. -

This seems like such good news - and something I didn't know until just now, I figured I'd share it with folks who may also have been in the dark.
Apparently, we can grab this badge and not have to do that crazy midnighter's arc. -
Well, apparently this will have to wait until next week - there's something that has come up.
-
Radial Flawless diamagnetic is what I've been going with.
-
No big surprise.
Hosting magi trials to completion as long as I can sustain interest in it.
Each Monday 10pm Eastern, starting with 6/5, tomorrow.
A lot have asked about badge efforts. Right now, the one I want to try is the triple threat- but before I take everyone's time with that effort, I want to learn more about this last stage against tyrant. No sense working on this badge, and get it, only to not complete the trial.
As soon as we can find a way to keep him in the center for the most part, then, I think we might try it.
I think a tactic for this would be splitting the league into 2 teams of 7, and 2 teams of 5. The two teams of 7 tackle Shadow Hunter and Nega-Pendragon, while one team of 5 tackles Chimera. The 2nd team of 5 will wait in the turret on the right. If he goes to the left turret, the first team will follow him there. Thus far, I haven't seen him port back to center/star area once he's gone to the turrets - he just goes from one side to the other.
From there, it's just a matter of whittling them down - 10%, to 7%, to 5 %, to 2%, and then maybe do a nuke on them.
If the power is executed, even if chimera ports, it will still execute. (just a question of whether it will do any good)
For now, though - I'm not comfy with a badge run. -
Quote:I certainly can't guarantee victory, but I actually enjoy the trial. I have a lot of toons that have yet to unlock it - but even if they did, they'd need the salvage to fill it. When we have a couple of kins and a rad or two, provided we can keep Tyrant somewhere close to the center, it generally winds up as a win.I'm still hoping to actually get this done on Patriot at some point. Unfortunately at the moment it seems all people want to do is farm the 250+ and reset. Hell I've even suggested tackling the first 3 AVs just to mix it up and break the monotony.
Sadly, the devs were warned this would happen, so really it's their own fault. Still it's kind of pathetic that it's nearly impossible to find someone actually wanting to complete the Magisterium.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to learn there are a few people out there who actually think the first phase of the Magisterium is the entirety of the iTrial.
The challenges are 1) basically - maintaining dps. If you're villain, use that frenzy accolade, if you're hero, use call to justice. Use your hybrid Assault if you have it.
There's been some discussion about when to spawn lore pets and when to nuke. The fights so long, I say nuke when it's recharged, and nuke again when it's recharged.
I also think lore pets, ideally should come out at 30%, but sometimes, after you see him at 30, you have to get the lights, then get out of the crackle zone, and then he's back at 35 or even 40.
That's where the real challenge is - can the league put out the lights and when running back to the av, not run into Tyrants air crackling hero zapper. If most of the league can, we win, otherwise, we don't.
The very crucial key - to me - is trying to keep the av in the center - we do this, the lead can see the warnings and announce them to the league. Otherwise, half the league sees it, and a few on the other side of the crater don't.
We've learned that taking out the lights simply helps us do more damage to him - and take less. (via level shifts)
But hey, like I said, let me know when you want to run this, I'll do my best to get you through it.
Best Destiny : Rebirth
Inspirations to bring: Big greens.
I recommend you save your return to battle until the fight against tyrant when he's below 50%. If too many people are going to the hospital, there's speculation that it gives Tyrant a boost. But, dead characters do no damage - and that's more boost for him than we can really afford. (the lack of dps because of defeats) -
Quote:I don't think that's a mistake at all. Everyone that pays for even a 50 point temp from the store is a customer. Their opinion has merit, no matter what that opinion may be. It matters to them. Some folks will rant ( I know I have before) but that doesn't discount from the value of that feedback. You're making a quite common mistake of thinking that all feedback is sensible, worthwhile, and needs to be acted on
The dev team knows that if it's too easy, people will get bored.
If it's too hard people will get frustrated.
Honestly, I think hitting in between those two lines is not easy, given the diverse range of subscribers. (I'll omit the premiums as this is an iTrial)
For me, they've hit it just right. But, I've been very blessed to be on a server with more highly competent players than not. If I were elsewhere, or of the pendulum of the rng accuracy were just a little bit less, I might be griping about it, too.
Sensible? It all makes sense to the poster. The Devs would do well to remember that. It makes sense to them. If their argument (philosophically) lacks merit, it's still a valid, worthwhile opinion. It doesn't mean that the devs should totally discount it - "Oh, that's So and So -she has more posts than any two players- she just likes to type stuff"
That type of discounting, though, is not a good thing.
Worthwhile? If someone takes the time to type out their opinion on the subject, it is worthwhile. Even if you or I or 98% of people disagree with it.
For the most part, the dev team tries to stay connected with the player base. But, they have to temper what we want, with 1) what they can give us, and 2) what they can give us and remain profitable or obtain profitability.
A lot of players are frustrated with this trial now - soon, it will become old hat for some, remain a fun challenge for others, and be over the top ridiculously hard for others. Just like every other trial, except maybe BAF.
Does all feedback need to be acted on? Of course. By definition, any feedback read is acted on. What those actions are could be to place it in the round file -because the dev team has a much larger picture to keep in mind. Some things they can't change because of what's coming down the pipe in 2013. Sometimes we forget that.
That's not to say there shouldn't be some adjustments, or some clarifications about these level shifts and how they're supposed to work.
So, no, the common mistake is to automatically discount opinions that are contrary to yours. We are subscribers, ergo, we are relevant. But, we can't assume that we know what's best for CoH. Some may have a very good idea, but there's a LOT we don't know, so we just can't be sure. -
-
You and Amygdala are absolutely correct. Tyrant does indeed get a buff from people using the hospital. It's worth noting that the temp power Revival (self rez power) is not greyed out during the trial - and it makes you untouchable for a fraction of a second. (long enough to retoggle I've found)
As Niqodemus mentioned, in the small writing of the ui it does mention to keep the olympian guards from Tyrant - and that is a perfect excuse to use judgement.
The hard part of this trial is countering the regen that favor of the well gives him. The only real tools we have are -regen and dps.
You folks are plenty smart enough to figure that out already.
The challenge comes in
1) announcing when lights are going to spawn consistently before they spawn. (for some reason, people can see chat easier than the info in the ui.)
2.) announcing when the air is crackling for those that were out of the warning area dealing with lights, coming back from the taboo hospital, etc.
3.) people actually avoiding the crackle, and avoiding defeat to maximize the damage and the -regen.
Well, you guys are smart enough to figure that out too.
Perhaps you can find someone with surveillance to take a screenie of his attributes. I haven't seen them yet, but a friend tells me his base regen is 470 - but when his hp hits 50, it boosts up to 750.
Also, it seems getting him to 50 is not that tough - maybe try forgoing the lights until he hits 50. Haven't tried that yet, but seems his 100% to 50% is marshmallow - but his 50% to mini-tyrant % is pretty tough.
Oh - I haven't done this yet, but am going to log in and do it - It would be good to use a macro or bind to facilitate using of the quill instead of a mouse click - as for several issues, some folks have a hard time finding their cursor. (Me, for one) -
Ok, worst case scenario - what server are you on? Maybe I could help you rebuild one via some inf to prestige conversion. It doesn't take much now that hacked telepads will hold 6 beacons.
you make the sg, invite my toon, I'll help you build it, and then quit.
Only problem is the name won't be the same. -
I won't say that the trial or Tyrant is easy.
But, for me, the trial was a lot of fun. When it came out, our server had a couple of leagues going. One was winning it consistently, the other decided to farm it. I find it interesting that I can get about 22%iXP whether I farm it or complete it.
However, only on some of my toons was I able to craft the t-4 and have it ready to be slotted once unlocked. So, I was reluctant to farm it, as the toons need the salvage, may as well just run the trial and finish it.
I do agree that they should make some changes - the level shifts that the player gets for putting the lights out - those should definitely be more consistent.
For me, I must be in the minority, because the trials a lot of you think are busts, they are the ones I like best. MoM, UGT and now this one, because it's over in 15-20 minutes IF the league is able to move when the crackling air message flashes on the screen. If they can't, that certainly drags things out, and makes failure a real possibility.
I understand that not everyone is going to have the same reflexes, eye sight, monitor size and resolution, computer system, ISP, level of sobriety, etc.
But for me, I found the trial procedurally simple to explain. That's very important to me, because it means I won't have to make a zillion macros like I did with ugt. (still run that trial 2 or 3 times a week, succeeding far more often that not, we still run MoM once a week and pretty much had that down, and DD -- we don't run DD, we run MoDD, because the Mo only takes maybe an extra 5 minutes)
There is no doubt in my mind on my server, I'll be running this trial A LOT -- assuming I can find others that want to do the trial. And if I can't, well, I'll have to improvise. -
You want accurate information - I can only tell you what was told to me by a player who had, I presume, used Surveillance on Tyrant.
His base regen is 470 hp.
His regen debuff resistance is 80%.
For those that don't know - after you put the lights out, you are supposed to get a level shift for each light you have out.
You can monitor your level shift via combat attributes.
However, this hasn't worked as intended each and every time. When it does work - that rough patch when he's between 30-40%, lore pets and call to justice can really help -- and once he's down to like 18% or so, he's on his last legs and the well takes his favor away and you've pretty much won it.
Snow Globe, with one of his posts, shows how after 13 seconds that there are no lights, but there are no level shifts either.
Sadly, we are left to wonder if the level shifts only last for 10-12 seconds, or is the trial indeed bugged in some instances? We don't get to see the code, so we've no idea.
For the most part, I suggest trying it anyway - it's a short trial, and it is fun, dodging all that lightning.
Not sure if that helps anyone or not - but I suspect that they need to do some fine tuning - to make the shifts more consistent.
54+5 and some Olympians vs. a lot of 50+3's --well, I sure didn't have any problem with Cole's personal story. -
Just in case there's any doubt - I'll say it right here.
@energizing ion is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to leading trials.
Not just for his willingness and ability - but because he doesn't express that rage or call anyone an idiot like I might when I lead a trial. That, and he spends a good bit of time on the beta server learning this stuff before it goes live. They ought to give him a special badge or three to go with his 1389 or however many he has now. -
As usual, I've always got something to say.
I had what I would call some good fortune on this trial the past two days - two failed runs - and the only reason 1 failed was because we went for a badge, and didn't abort the effort soon enough. The other - was a mixture of problems.
Here are some:
1. Those that use a quill may have re-entered the PBAoE range and missed the warning.
2. Some folks may be +3, but that doesn't mean their destinies or lore pets are t-4d, nor does it necessarily mean that they have anything in Judgement or Interface.
The lack of T-4's may or may not make a substantial difference. But, I suspect that these minute differences add up when you're talking about multiplying them by 24. I'm not math guru, but it seems like they would.
3. Poor player performance - Don't misunderstand - just because you were on a league that failed doesn't mean you're a horrible player. And, it doesn't mean that the league was horrible either. But, it could mean that your system - or several other people's systems are having latency or lag issues. I noticed today while doing Marcus Cole's personal story that when my character used his AoEs, I got an lcms message - there could be something in that code that causes that, and that same effect may be in the trial for some when he uses those powers. I've had lag before, and I know it's no fun, and you certainly don't want to be *that guy* that gums up the works. All I can suggest is that you upgrade. If you have an up to date system and you're still having lag, I think you should talk to support. I had a problem once, and they told me to turn off Enable chat logging, and things got much better. They also told me my video drivers were out of date.
You should also check your options and make sure you're not in ultra mode and reduce your settings.
4. The trial may be bugged.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...&postcount=116
I think the above post is worth looking at. Now, the trials I was on - no troubles. But, the other night, even though most of us were doing things as normal, we stalled around 40%. A lot of this was because of a lack of dps. Dead people do no damage. (fallout anyone?)
So, if this helps, here's what I would recommend:
Seriously - you want a full league - but it's not required.
You want -regen and lots of it.
You want people that have restores and revive temp powers, as well as mutation and resurrection, and all the othe rez powers. On the last phase, when people get clobbered, they have to destroy a portal and then zip back into the fray. This can take as much as 30 seconds - that dps that's not being applied to Tyrant.
You probably are better off with a heavier concentration of ranged characters. This way they can zip back and forth with their attacks. It takes melee a little bit longer to zip back and forth, because they have more distance to travel.
You will want to take the lights out as soon as you can. Use a targeting macro and press F so you bump right into it. (assuming the terrain doesn't snag you) Oddly enough, you can use the extra quills on Tyrant, but I'm not at all sure if that does anything.
Apex, MoM, Keyes -- and now magisterium - they all have some area to avoid while executing attacks. It's hard for some players to do this.
You're likely to get caught in some of the splash from Tyrant. Take Greens, and big ones.
The less dying you do, the better off the league will be.
Take a peek at that url, it's some interesting stuff. -
I went with melee radial embodiment on Ukase Rex. I normally play at range with him, but I am going to be respecing him soon - and will be playing in melee more often.
-
For me, I understand why you would choose to do this - but I expect to be doing the trial on a regular basis like the others. The toons I have that can craft a tier 4 hybrid already have it slotted. The others will, when they get around to it. It's been.....easily 9 months since we had the lore, destiny, interface and judgement introduced - so, on that basis, I figure I have plenty of time.
I would at least farm until I got an astral for my troubles, but that's just me. -
I could certainly be wrong, but my guess is that the Dev's thinking was that the solo incarnate path takers weren't in any hurry. I have done the mini-arcs ---and I will likely never do them again - the progress is far too slow to suit me.
I also think that the devs had actually envisioned players would progress up to t-4 eventually using threads- because the occurrence of rares and very rares via the solo path is indeed rare and very rare - much more so than in the average iTrial reward table. They probably did not count on some progressing faster than they thought.
I can tell you this, though - hybrid is NOT that great. It's a toggle that will essentially only work half the time (better than nothing, sure), not at all passive like interface. They had their reasons, and I suppose I can see their point, but I have more than enough things to click.
On my server, we did well over a dozen runs and did not farm any of the iXP. I don't blame them for doing so, though. Many of us have tons of threads that had no use until the hybrid slot. I was able to craft a t-4 before I joined the league for my first magisterium. And I know I'm not the only one. Aside from badges, there really was no compelling reason to finish the trial. Can't really blame them.
Fortunately, the trial is fun. The last part is a little crazy, but I like it like that. -
Quote:I find it very hard to believe that I am the only one that doesn't care for these cutscenes. If someone's on your league that's never done the trial, the cutscenes are triggered. If everyone's successfully completed the trial, the cutscenes are not triggered. If you're seeing the cutscene, it's because someone on the trial hasn't seen it yet. Don't be a booger.
And I sure don't think suggesting I might be a booger for not liking them is appropriate. I made my suggestion. You may not like it, that's your right.
But, booger or not, I'm not going to like it. And I still think that they could time those things to trigger at the end, instead of upon loading in, or in the middle. (and the ones in the middle are the worst.) -
No, they aren't that good. Sure, I could do that - but why are they there? The story has already been told. It's wasting time, when we could be accomplishing mission objectives.
On a ugt -it's important to reiterate details about Will of the Earth and the seedling. And, typically, some unreading person will trigger the cutscene before I can explain that not everyone should use their clarions at the same time, and that they should be staggered.
All these cutscenes do is stall the progress. They do tell a story - sure - but nobody wants to see that same story 100 times.
Well maybe some of you do, but I sure don't. And I'd love an option to opt out of ever seeing them, after I've seen them once. -
I am really tired of trying to type instructions to the league and getting cut off for the same video time after time. I suggest no more cutscenes in any tf or trial
-
I know that many of you have been eagerly awaiting this new trial - for a multitude of reasons.
Some are seriously bored with the current iTrials -either because the trials themselves have repetitive tasks, or we've run them ad nauseum.
The magisterium trial is, from what I could discern available only to those who have Destiny and Lore unlocked.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=287470
I have not been to beta this time around. I honestly didn't think I was going to keep my sub current. But, it would appear (too late) that I will.
I know that as soon as the issue hits tomorrow, there will be several wanting to get the new badges asap. And then, by Monday...those that had to work (or some other real life obstacle) will struggle to find a way to get the new shinies.
Because of this, I'm going to cancel the UGT this Friday and Sunday. I simply don't think anyone will be that much interested with the new stuff.
History has shown me that when a new issue hits -old routines get tossed to the curb, to be picked up later- or not.
Sadly, what this new issue does, is create yet a greater rift between those who've been able to get the hybrid slot unlocked and filled, while the more casual or less plugged in players remain unshifted or at +1 or +2.
As far as I know, the hybrid slot does not create an extra level shift, but it would seem that it's useful enough for league leaders to be wanting the players to have it.
I have well over a dozen 50s that I've gotten t-4'd in each of the 5 slots available. To go back and play each one to gain the progress for hybrid - well, it seems daunting.
How many of you are going to try and do this with each of your 50s? And how long do you think it will take you?
If we all do - the casual player should have an easier time of finding a spot on the magisterium at a later date.
Time will tell.
Again, no ugt on this Friday or Sunday after MSR. May try and do one tonight, as folks will be busy with the new shiny tomorrow. -
I wouldn't go that far - I'm horribly outspoken -to the point where I put my foot in my mouth frequently.
On the bright side, my toenails are clean!
Anyone of us could log in alt accounts - but it's better to have just one that you devote your attention to - imo.
We were actually able to get the gm to spawn this morning, getting the badge for about 5 people that didn't have it - one of which has apparently resubbed after an absence.
I'm seeing a lot of new faces - some may be returning players, others may just be premiums who have decided to sub now that their toons are 50. But, I suspect we'll have some growing pains. Liberty hit 2 yellow dots yesterday.
