  1. Seriously? The servers are being taken down already?
  2. One last time........

A moment of silence for the Microsignal please.
  3. Holy crap, I forgot about the Game of Thrones MMO. That better not suck.
  4. I'm very conflicted about what I'm going to do after November (going to stay on the ship til it sinks.)

I've been saving money for a new computer that I planned on building at the end of next month almost exclusively for COH purposes. I do think I'm going to need to find a replacement for COH after the servers close, but the only thing really appealing to me is Star Wars.

I loved the KOTOR games and I think the MMO looks great, but from what I've heard it's not in great financial shape. I really don't want to invest a lot of money in a new computer to play a game that gets shut down/bankrupted, but I guess th risk is going to be there with any newer game, and I absolutely don't want to jump into a pre-established game like WoW.

To top it all off, I really have no interest at all in traditional fantasy games, or anything FPS-y or reminiscent of FPS-yness (yes, that is a word.)

I think what I might end up doing is take a break from gaming for a bit until something really eye-catching comes out or Star Wars gets its act together. I've also read that it doesn't have an end game and that there are some annoying potentially game breaking things going on over there, so I'm a bit hesitant.
  5. I still think that my bragging about Drain Psyche and all the awesome out of control things I was doing on my Archery/Mental Blaster (anyone remember those 20 page threads I started? You were probably one of the people spitting venom at me!) had a lot to do with the other secondaries getting buffed. Well, would have, if it ever actually happened.

Also *ducks from flying rocks, trash, etc.*
  6. I hadn't seen the IGN article with the Nov. 30 date at the point of this posting, so we can definitely push the date back a bit in order to make sure the whole "crew" can make it.
  7. Jeezus, OP is jacked. Kinda hard to follow, but I will contribute to the mask takeoffing.

Hey guys, I'm Rob. It's been fun.

  8. My Warshade was my third ever character. From the time I made him, I was playing for at least 4 hours every single day, that's how much I fell in love with the Archetype. I don't think I played anything else for about 6 months.

The first time I ever turned into a Dark Nova. Holy crap, that was just so awesome to me.

When I got Dwarf Form and found Dechs' the MFing Warshade. It was a complete elevation to what was already the single most awesome character I had ever played in a video game.

When I finished my first perma eclipse build and realized that I could play on 54x8. I would spend hours a day either soloing or on teams in RWZ just doing Borea missions, collecting shards and having fun.

When I switched to a purpled out, high defense human only build. This was the biggest game changer for me since getting Dwarf Form. Soloing 54x8 Malta, soloing AV's. It was just so empowering and awesome.

The All Kheldian Lambda on Protector, and the all Kheldian Keyes and second Lambda on Freedom. It was so great to lead these things and have so many of the most well known and (in my opinion) awesome Kheldian players in the game participate. How smoothly they went was such an awesome feeling.

And last but not least, Kheldian Fridays. It originally started out with just myself, Stone Daemon and AIB and became a very long-running, very successful weekly event. We accomplished so many awesome things, including all Kheldian Apex, Tin Mage, and even an all Kheldian Rikti Raid. It was so awesome to play with my best COH friends during this awesome event.

  10. I don't think they're gonna shut the servers down just within DAYS, I think Sunday should be safe. And yes, I said august 33rd. That's when it's happeneing. Don't judge me.
  11. Hey guys. So as you know by now, the game is shutting down. I would like to get in one last all Kheldian event before it does.

Let's do it on Freedom, this Sunday August 33 around 4 pm est.

I'm open to suggestions as to what we run.

Also, I'm going to take this opportunity to apologize to the people on the forums who I've pissed off incessantly over the course of time. I think this is as good a time as any to bury the hatchet and enjoy what's left of the game we all love.

    edit: had the date wrong

Yes you absolutely want to purple out Fire/Mental in order to perma DP for less slots. Trying to perma DP without purples is going to lead to spending way more slots on rech than would otherwise be necessary- And those are slots that you could be spending building M/R/A defense to 32.5%. The Scorpion/Ice Shields are great defense toggles, but you can build all the defense you need with set bonuses and refocus your Patron pick on Mu mastery in order to layer your perma DP with not only a small purple from the softcap to all positions, but strong S/L/E resists also- Mu Mastery also gives you a tAOE immob in order to help prevent scatter, which an AOE heavy Fire/Ment Blaster will inevitably suffer from otherwise.

Yeah, I might argue with people who have different build philosophies than me but the only thing I ever object to is blatant laziness.

I think someone like Bill is in a terrible position to say anything bad about me- He routinely advocates a completely lazy and uninspired build philosophy, offering up "The game is balanced around SO's" as a justification.

On the other hand, I've routinely helped people get the most out of their Kheld builds whether I shared their build philosophy or not. This is really case/point since I've contributed the most viable build for level 50 play on SO's only thus far in this thread. But I've also helped players min/max their Kheldian builds, and have been doing so for quite a while now. I have spent hours upon hours of time helping to look over other players builds, improve upon them, and in many cases, ultimately make them new ones. Out of MY free time, just to help the community. Feel free to scroll down for a while on the Kheld board if you don't believe me, but all I've ever seen Bill do is complain and whine and gripe about how the game should be balanced around SO's and the IO system is so bad. News flash: Just because you're too lazy to use the IO system doesn't mean it's going anywhere. The only reason that Dev's still pander to that philosophy is that they still want your money. Reality check.

You might be referencing my arguing with people like AIB or Dechs as my having a bias towards anyone "not playing exactly how I play." Let me just point out that AIB is one of my best friends in COH. I also used to talk to Dechs on almost a daily basis and we were pretty close for a while. I've played with them both pretty extensively. I consider them both great players, I just don't agree with how they build their characters at all times, and they feel the same way about me with mine.

We've routinely had heated discussions on the Kheld boards where yes, I have advocated for the superiority of my build philosophy. It's all in good fun though- I think people absolutely have the right to disagree with me, and I've witnessed some of the best players in the Kheldian community perform admirably on builds that I wouldn't personally advocate.

While I prefer my own build stratagems and I do my best to make a strong case for them, I also don't ever discount anyone's contributions to the community or capabilities with their preferred build methods as long as their approach is viable and impressive.

Bill, you are none of the above. All I've ever seen you do on the Kheldian forums is completely disregard any and all conventional build wisdom. You advocate a build philosophy that has long been extinct and long been irrelevant in the modern game. You might hate me for it, but I'm just the messenger. The game has changed and you have been left behind. Your ideas do not deserve to be taken seriously.

I don't ignore you on the forums because I'm not a pouty brat. If you were legitimately uninterested in interacting with me, you might want to start by keeping my name out of your mouth. If you're not mature enough to refrain from mentioning or addressing me while I'm on your ignore list though, I would just ask that someone else quote this post (preferably in context) so you can see exactly what I said. Fair is fair.

Key phrase: "Most likely." You know a few people who would disagree that the majority of current players with access to Peacebringers also have access to the IO system? Or you know a few people who happen to be exceptions to a general and still accurate statement?

Ah, thank you for the lesson in strict forum etiquette. I would be oh so lost without your words of wisdom. Also, don't assume people with access to khelds have access to the invention system. People can purchase the unlock early. We've had people who had khelds unlocked before keep them when going to premium but not have their inventions. (I've got a friend in this situation, came back to the game - they're on SOs, but their 'main' is their PB. All they work with are SOs and HOs.)
And what exactly is difficult or challenging about slotting SO's and HO's that requires assistance and rigorous study...?
    Quote:
It doesn't matter if it's "easy to use," etc, if someone doesn't like dealing with that part of the game. If they don't like that part of the game, they're not going to want to deal with it. It's that simple. Talking down to someone because they don't like the things you do doesn't make anyone respect you or your opinion.
I don't like dealing with people who don't like dealing with that part of the game. You know, the end game in particular is a challenging team effort. My Peacebringer is one of my favorite characters- I spent quite a bit on him, and he still doesn't perform up to a very high standard compared to other AT's. The Archetype is inherently gimpy by comparison, and I can't in good conscience encourage people to Play Peacebringers on anything less than at least MODERATE budgets. I don't want to see people encouraged to spend nothing at all on their PB's only to end up having to play with those people at some point in the future, all because mediocrity was encouraged.

My goal isn't to have the most efficient min-maxed build, but to have the build that is the most fun to play that requires the least time in the market or doing admin work. To me, that is the most efficient (for the limited amount of play time that I have).

I only glanced at the build you offered but I'll look at it closer later. Did I see correctly that it's supposed to be a human-only build?

The market is so incredibly easy to use and things that were once hard to get are now so accessible, you could spent 5-10 minutes a day working towards a mid-ranged build and finish it in a month or less.

As one example, SSA 1 episodes 1 and 2 take like, 15 minutes max. If you're a confirmed villain or hero and you've never done them before you can run one of them twice and another once for a total of 3 alignment merits in one day. You can spend 2 of those merits on LOTG 7.5% recharges if you want, or spend all 3 on converters and easily make a significant amount of profit for a very minimal amount of effort.

And yes, I think human only is the best way to approach a build without IO's; It will ultimately be more durable than a SO'd Dwarf form can be at level 50 because of the almost 20% defense to everything that I worked in between pool toggles and combat flight. It also retains strong global resistance even outside of light form. The AOE won't be as good as Nova, but the ST is pretty strong considering the slotting restrictions and it still has *decent* AOE ability; I don't believe that having no defense whatsoever is worth the tradeoff of slightly more AOE. I'll never get behind that sort of build philosophy.

I guess building COH characters in the least effective possible way is of utmost importance to you and absolutely not a joking matter, so sure- I guess I might as well bite.

Keep in mind that in my opinion once you have a basic understanding of how slotting works in this game, it's nowhere near difficult to properly slot SO's into any given AT- The real work will come down to learning how the AT/powerset in question functions. Once you have a basic grasp on how Peacebringers and properly slotting powers works though, there's really no 'right' or 'wrong' approach, and certainly no be all, end all approach as you seem to be espousing.

All that being said, here is how I would build a SO'd Peacebringer if I had to. Keeping in mind that anyone with access to Kheldians most likely also has access to the IO system, so once again, this is ultimately all an exercise in futility.

I'm assuming hami-o's are ok to use since they're accessible by f2p accounts.

Trying to lecture me about something? :|

I can agree to disagree with some of the facets of Dechs' build philosophies and still respect him. His work on the tri form Warshade mentality is freaking fantastic, and he's also an intelligent person and a good friend. I (sometimes passionately) disagree with him about things, maybe even routinely, but that doesn't change any of the above.

I guess you think that I should apply that same philosophy to everyone I interact with, and that's what you're getting at here.

First of all, I think respect should be earned, not given.

Second, entertainment takes precedence over everything else. In this thread for example, I made a perfectly harmless libertarian joke, and the "BE WELL!" guy got his panties in a bunch. That lead to Memphis Bill jumping on the "I Hate THB" bandwagon, once again, all because of a harmless joke... And Bill posted JUST to say that he doesn't read my posts. If anyone has been vindictive here, *points to Bill.*

That's ok though, because I really don't care. Everything I post on these forums, and everything I do in game, serves the primary purpose of entertaining me. Everything else is incidental. If you think that I've talked myself up to be more than I am, well then that sucks for you.

I really don't care what you think of me. I do know that I've gone out of my way to help other players though, and I plan on continuing to do so. If you don't find my opinions or advice to be satisfactory, feel free to ignore them. There are quite a few folks here who can and have testified to my advice aiding their in game experience though, especially on the Kheld board.

For years, I have loathed the kheldians as a complete waste of developer resources and a failed project that was brilliant in concept, and died in execution. Since I've come back, I decided to make it my mission to understand just what the hell was compelling people to play these broken and deficient ATs. I tried fiddling with them extensively in Mids, determined to do it myself. I eventually gave up in my usual disgust, figuring it must be some kind of masochistic impulse that drove them to the Khelds.

That was before I read first, the MFing Warshade, by the brilliant Dechs. And the Gold Standard PB contained in this thread, which I had found an earlier version of and been passionately in nerd love with.

With a few modifications, I have been able to use both builds to create the characters I have waited eight years to be able to play.

The changes to Light Form and the treatment Dechs gave the WS made them two of the now most played and dearly loved toons I have in my stable, standing next to the champions and paragons of light and darkness that have called my account home for all these years.

I cannot thank you guys, the people that stuck it out with the khelds and MADE it work, regardless of the dearth of developer interest, enough for teaching me that I know absolutely nothing about how to build or play a kheld. The experience has been one of the most entertaining and explosive (and in the case of my WS, vaguely disgusting) experiences I have had on this game.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

Things like this are so awesome to read. I love when people give Dechs kudos for the MFing Warshade; It's the single most inspiring guide in COH history IMO, even if I don't agree with all of the build philosophies it espouses.

I'll jump on any chance I can get to give Dechs yet another /e high five for writing that guide, but I'd also like direct this poster towards Alien One's Human Only Warshade Guide while he's here. Alien made some nice updates within the last couple of issues, and I'll be releasing my 'companion guide' of sorts around i24, for strictly end game purposes.
  21. I think Regen is one of those few sets where PVP needs to be taken into account. It is probably the strongest melee secondary for PVP and for good reason- I personally don't see anything wrong with leaving it alone and thinking of it as a PVP set; Sort of similar to how I feel about Psi Blast.

Ahh, ok! So a more reliable title for this would have been, say, 'Copper Standard' Peacebringer, as you seem to be focusing on intentionally suboptimal build strategems. Perhaps if these threads are titled appropriately in the future with more relevant metaphors you won't run into this sort of embarrassing mix up again.
