Oh, I'm not going in with high expectations, because I know that for me to expect it to be a full-on COH replacement would be a perfect setup for monumental disappointment.

In regards to DCUO, the interest just isn't there for me. I like that Cryptic is a similar studio to Paragon- I think it's freaking awesome that BaB was posting on the COH forums yesterday even though he works for Cryptic.

I also think I'd be more comfortable in Champions than DC. I feel like it will have the same sort of playerbase in a general sense- DCUO to me reeks of teenagers and a more throw away target audience. Shrug.

  3. Hey Stone,

Can you sign me up for all of them?

Even the stuff I never would have wanted to do under normal circumstances?

Because it's gonna be fun as hell.

I agree with this. I don't regret a single dime I spent (and I spent quite a few dimes.) I don't regret saving up villain merits for a month to buy my first Gladiator's Armor unique, and I don't regret all the time I spent earning over 20 billion influence for single builds.

I don't regret doing so many Incarnate trials that I got at least 2 t4's in every slot on my main, including a t4 version of every single Destiny.

I don't regret getting every single Field Crafter badge in a single day.

I don't regret all the build revisions I went through, all the hours upon hours I spent min/maxing my characters.

I don't regret the great friends I made, or all the time I spent playing with them. That includes all the time I spent doing TF's I would rather not be doing, just because I got to spend that time with good buddies playing a game we all loved.

I don't regret anything because I had fun doing it. I made new friends and connected with them. I made new characters and connected with them. I spent more time than I can quantify on both.

I love this game. I love my characters. I'm glad that I put the time, work, and effort into everything COH-related that I did. I will never regret a single second of it, and I will never consider ANY of it pointless. Except for any time I spent reading Golden Girl posts.
  5. Posi said something about a Q&A next week. If the forums are gone by then, I assume we're all moving to the Titan Network forums?

  7. Let's also point out all the awesome Blaster/general blast set changes that these guys were working on. Crashless Nukes, Instant Snipes, higher survivability for the non Mental secondaries.

This would have opened up so many options for me in terms of alts I would've been willing to make. It was such a great way to rejuvenate under performing powersets, too.

Even though we didn't get to experience it on live, these guys still put the work in. And I appreciate that a lot.

My first ever character was my Energy/Kin Corruptor. I hadn't logged him in for over a year, but when the instant snipe/crashless nuke changes were announced, I said to myself, "Wait a minute... Instant snipe will give NRG decent DPS! And Fulcrum Shifted crashless Nova on a shorter cooldown!? Hell yeah!"

I did nothing but solo this character for 4 months when I first got the game, and that was way before F2P came out. I learned how everything worked, made my first friends and fell in love with this game playing this character. I abandoned him for better builds eventually, but it felt great to know that I would have a real reason to play him again, and that's because of these guys.

I had soloed him as far as level 43, and so for last double XP weekend, I got him to 50, IO'd him out into an i24 build and spent quite a few hours enjoying him in the meantime. So thanks for that.
  8. I'm on the opposite train of thought as the OP. I intend to get the most out of these last few months of the game as possible.

Also, CoH didn't lock away any of their previously free costume parts when it went Free to Play. CO did. I have characters from my original stint that I literally could not make their costumes now without buying multiple complete costume sets for.

Oathbound, please don't get the wrong idea. If it weren't for the fact that COH is closing, I wouldn't touch Champions with a 20 foot pole. The fact is that I'm extremely bummed out about losing my COH and Champions seems like the most viable thing to a close replacement.

Will it be the same? No.

Will I like it as much? No.

Will I prefer just about everything about COH over Champions? Yes.

The fact remains though, that Champions is a comparable game and I think it's the best bet for my COH characters to live on.

A huge portion of CO's costume parts are locked away in microtransactions... and you can't even buy them piecemeal (IIRC) you have to buy them in bundles.

For what it's worth, I paid for 90% of my costumes in COH too, or earned the pieces through vet rewards/in game unlocks.
  11. I agree. I especially want to thank Arbiter Hawk for all the work he did on Kheldians, as well as other revamps he worked on. I got so much more mileage out of my Peacebringer than I ever would have if not for him, and I truly appreciate that. I also spoke with him a couple of times and he was always fast to reply, polite and willing to engage in discussion. An awesome Dev- I hope he finds work in another studio soon.
  12. I think it would be best to give VIP to everyone for the simple fact that those of us who are current subscribers will have their paid time run out before November. I never purchased months in advance but always left my card on auto-renew in order to keep my sub going at all times. I will be very disappointed if my sub runs out before the servers go down and I lose access to things I am willing to pay for until the very end.

I haven't played it in a year or two, but at the time I remember feeling like there were thousands of options for unique costumes. Looking at their website today I noticed that they seem to have a system almost identical to the Paragon Market, with tons of new costume packs being sold for points. I agree the art style is going to take some getting used to, but for me, I think Champions will feel more like home than anything else.
  14. Thanks Joe. Most of my best COH friends and favorite people come from or post on the Kheldian boards. This was by far my favorite part of the community, and my Warshade has always been my favorite character.

Even the Jason Bourne legacy has an enhanced man as its hero.

And NC has a superhero game, full of content, full of ideas and enthusiasm right there.

I would have thought that NC, rather than close down a brand that, by all accounts IS making a profit, would actually put dollars into getting the game fully out there.

It's hard for me to understand why NC didn't want to capitalise on the super hero explosion.
It was mentioned in other threads that COH was only doing well in NA/EU markets, or in fact, even existing in those markets. Those fantasy games have a market in Asia also. Westerners like the asian fantasy shtick, and easterners obviously do too. Apparently the latter makes up a huge amount of the MMO market.

  17. NCSoft will fail without our help. They think GW2 will be their WoW killer and their saving grace. In my opinion, it's just not going to happen.

The hit they're taking from the COH community just piles on to an already failing company imo. I will in all likelihood be giving my business to Champions, and will without a doubt never be touching an NCSoft product again.

I just finished my dinner in-between a pause from doing back-to-back iTrials, getting ready to do another, when someone posted the link.

Safe to say, I didn't join the next trial going.

This was on Union, character name Arch Bishop.

How about the rest of you?

I was on Freedom, just finished a UG trial on my TW/FA Scrapper. A few people in the help channel were talking about the game ending and I was just like, "lol ok. Freedom trolls are trollin."

After a while though, I was like, "Hmm.. That's a LOT of trolls." I finally checked out the link and I just didn't believe it. I mean, I thought it was a joke. I don't think I've even fully accepted that it's not a joke yet, even though I know this is for real.

    I'm sad again now.
  19. Everyone who said he wouldn't stay dead...
  20. I specifically bought all the enhancement tray upgrades to move all my stuff over from my Archery/Mental to my Fire/Mental as painlessly as possible. My friend was glad to point out to me today that after all that effort, I'll never get to see my Fire/Mental shine. What a shame.
  21. Very nice to read. Black Scorpion was hanging out on Freedom and expressed similar sentiments. Unfortunately my game crashed before I could take a screen. I was gonna file a bug report, but well..
  22. Someone was saying in the original posting of this thread (AT board) that Virtue is down already. As of right now I'm able to log on to Freedom, haven't tried any other servers.
