Yes, Snowball.
While I find TP Foe can be potentially useful, virtually any situation I come to where it'd be handy my character usually has a better method to handle it. For example, I tried it to keep my anchor where I wanted on my Rad/Sonic, but Lingering Radiation, Screech, Siren's Song, APP mezzes, etc. all work better. I've tried long range pulls, but any old range attack that doesn't knockback generally works just as fine. I've tried yanking problematic minions out of a mob, but mezzing that minion or outright bursting it down is just as, if not more, effective and often faster. I've yanked mobs out of geometry, but a power really shouldn't be judged on it's ability to work around a bug. Dragging buffers around I haven't tried, but there's usually new one in the next mob too and teammates tend to kill your pet confused mob anyway, so why go through the trouble?
Really, TP Foe needs something done to it. Especially if you compare it to Wormhole, which can not only grab whole mobs effortlessly and stun them, but it can also teleport up to Elite Bosses (maybe even an AV with their triangles down, but I've never tried). Granted, it is a primary power and not a pool power, but that's still not excuse for the power pool option to be craptastic. -
I'll try to make it. Level 45 human-only PB. I need to hurry up and 50 that toon.
-
Will the Mac client be available this month? I'll be vanishing for three months starting in April and I'll be rather annoyed to miss the Wisp aura because the launchers weren't updated simultaneously.
-
Wouldn't 15 mezzers at once be an edge case? That'd essentially be a full eight person spawn of mez-capable enemies (assuming you didn't pull two or more groups together) and I'm not aware of any enemy group outside of AE that you can get that in. And even then, spawns that big are balanced for teams, not solo.

Quote:...what? The only time I get mezzed through single application of PB is from Reichsman, Ghost Widow, and other mezzes that are too big to resist without tons of break frees or stacked CMs. Heck, that's about the only time any of my Scrappers get mezzed with the sole exception of my /Fire Scrapper getting held in Malta gas patches, but that was largely due to being a level 19 SKed Scrapper, so the mez protection at that level was probably a mere mag 4.This....Fail...... When other scrappers get locked down my /SR scrapper keeps goin cuse of double stacked PB thats 1 of the perks to it being a click instead of a toggle. Specially helpful to those lower level toons who dont have soft capped def and when mezes do chain and get treu the def the extra Mez resist from PB helps negate the effect and keep ya on your toes. So again...... This idea of makein it a toggle=fail. No not Fail but WoW Fail. No not WoW Fail...... SoE FAIL.
And lower level toons are more worried about their one application of PB ending before it cycles back, not whether it's double stacked. Until SOs anyway.
Quote:Being a click activated mez means that when you get end drained, your mez protection is still up.
Now if they gave these powers the Hasten/Aim/Build Up/etc. treatment in terms of animation, that'd be an improvement. All of those powers have animations, for only about a half-second of it prevents you from attacking. It's short enough that it's a very unnoticeable pause. I'd still prefer toggles, though cottage rule says that probably won't happen, but this would be a better compromise. -
I wouldn't mind AD and PB be turned into toggles. Sure, that'd make them a little more end-heavy for lower level toons, but inherent stamina would offset that some and I think being able to have full time mez protection before SOs would be worth the trade. Plus, PB insists on trying to keep itself near perma double stacked on my SR toon, which not only is breaking my attack chains constantly (largely when I'm tossing AoEs out and my queued attacks get cancelled because my target dies), but it's also eating a ton more endurance than a toggle ever would.

They could just, you know, freeze the ocean. Considering the game's setting, that isn't very far-fetched at all.
-
'Tis a shame to see you go. The power sets you helped create are all pretty awesome in their own ways. Not sure how far back that goes, but your work definitely shows, even when you're touching up the old, rusty sets. I hope your future endeavors are quite successful.

Every now and then someone on the forums will bring up how these things are awesomesauce smothered in bacon, but in the end I always forget they're there. And when I do remember, I've already sacrificed all my salvage on the altar of Wentsworth.

Quote:so...your belief is that if we advertise to less peoplea bigger percentage of those advertised will play/subscribe....fair enough....but what we want is to advertise to more people a huge audience...mathematically speaking:
if we focus the advertising to a small group of hand picked audience say for example its 100 people...the success rate of the advertising will be in the hi 75% range there fore 75 people will begin to play the game....75% is a great statistic!!!
however... if we advertise to 10000 people we may only get 10% of them to play...but wait thats 1000 people!!! now maybe 10% is to hi... but even 1% is 100 people!! which is still more than the small focus group...now these numbers are not realistic at all but i think it illustrates my point quite nicely!
Especially when you have the Community doing the advertising for you !!
Marketing doesn't quite work like that. But, for the sake of this, let's say it does. But let's add costs! Let's say it costs $5 advertise to one person. Advertising to the first 100 would cost us $500. Let's say the 75 who did sub bought a box ($20) and paid for three months ($15). That'd be $4875 revenue for a total profit of $4375, ignoring all other costs associated with running and updating the game. Now, for the group of 10,000, it's going to cost us $50,000. 1,000 sub, buy a box, but since this is just random people and not the audience CoH targets, they are therefore less into this sort of thing. So they unsub after the free month. So, we get $20,000 in box sales for a net loss of $30,000.
But wait, I'm being unfair by saying the second group doesn't sub three months! Well, in the unlikely scenario that our 1,000 subscribers who may not even like video games, as opposed to the target audience CoX aims at, subs three months as well. We then end at $65,000 total for a $15,000 profit.
So, isn't that better than the first target? No, it's not. First, that $50k we'd need to reach the 10,000 people? Yeah, that's a crap ton more money than $500. Additionally, the former is a 90% return from the gross income whereas the latter is a 23% return. The latter is, comparatively, a very poor investment where in the former we could sink a few thousand more and quickly exceed the general targeted ads while still spending far less.
But of course, costs don't work like that either. This is all just very simplified.
Now, considering we're talking about the fan base doing advertising, initial costs are going to be a HUGE factor. We don't have the huge sums of cash to reach the mass audience. For us, if we want to maximize our reach, we need to target the specific groups who'd be more likely to get interested in CoX. Vivian, for example, can only afford to print so many fliers, so why not post them where people most likely to be interested in CoX would be instead of just plopping them randomly? -
Pretty much any combination of Defenders. Though if I were to get more specific, I'd say two Emp/Sonics/Darks.
-
CoX is getting no advertising whatsoever?
One moment...
...
...
Yup, Going Rogue is still a featured game on the Mac section of Steam. It used to be in the PC side too, but seems to have dropped off since I last logged. Back before I disabled ad banners in my browser, I also used to see CoX banner ads on some sites. Then there was the GR give away contest on MMORPG.com. And the parodies of the "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" ads. And the trailers for every issue.
TV ad =/= lack of advertising. Putting an ad on TV is very expensive, so there's a very good reason why you barely see any game that isn't a big name flagship title being advertised on TV. Even if it's own by the same company. For example, I've seen TV ads for Mario and Metroid, but never for Star Fox, even though it's also a first party Nintendo game.
You have to keep in mind, CoX targets a very, very specific audience, so mass advertising wouldn't work out that well to begin with. Lemme break it down.
Take everyone you advertise to and narrow it down to gamers.
Narrow that down to those interested in RPGs.
Narrow that down to those in MMORPGs.
Narrow that down to those interested in P2P MMOs.
Narrow that down to people not subscribed to something or willing to add to or change their MMO line-up.
Narrow that down to someone interested in non-traditional MMO mechanics.
Narrow that down to someone who doesn't mind the age of the game.
Narrow that down to someone who would prefer an original universe rather than a big name franchise.
Narrow that down to someone who'd enjoy CoX's mature community more than the type we see floating around certain other popular games.
I may have missed some things and some may not apply to everyone, but that's the general gist of it. Other games have either a broader appeal or started with a huge fan base before the idea of said MMO was even a twinkle in someone's eye. If you want to have any real success, you'll want to target whatever player-based ad campaign at the right audience or otherwise you'll get very few to no new subscriptions. -
It doesn't have Build Up thrown in it. Soul Mastery does get Soul Drain, but it's at double the recharge of Dark Mastery's.

Quote:You mean Talsorian weapons?I'm going to go ahead and say it before anyone else does...
LIGHTSABERS!
I'd love some real weapon auras (and wings too!) In the mean time, you can sort of approximate weapon auras by using fist combat only auras. It's not perfect, but it works. For example, when my BS/SR draws the Rularuu sword, his hand is sheathed in a dark fire from the pommel. -
Even though the other proponent said it isn't a strong solo choice, I'll vote Grav/TA. It's only strong because it's not super high damage and the debuffs are more effective on groups than individual targets. But it can dish out crazy mez. This combo will let you reliably hold bosses by level 8 as long as they don't have mez protection. It can also wipe groups pretty quickly when you get Oil Slick. With Gravity Distortion Field and EMP Arrows, you get two mass-holds from range. And Singularity is great for tanking and locking stuff down. It may not pop tons of damage, but it's very safe. My own Grav/TA can fairly effortlessly lock down four bosses with just single-target mez. The only times I run into issues are against EBs equipped with PTOD. Other EBs get held like everything else.
Also vote for Elec/Earth Dom. It's crazy fun and Elec oddly enough synergizes with Earth's knock-ups very well for those moments your holds, confuses, and sleeps fail.
Also will vote for a human-only Peacebringer blapper. Decent ranged and melee attacks with decent resistances and self heals coupled with a mass mez, a nuke, a power that ought to be a nuke, and a god mode makes for some great fun. The low levels can be a bit of a pain if you go purist and skip Nova instead of just respeccing out of it later, but by 20 you should be fine. -
Not specifically from me, but referencing in general.
Anyway, you know that bug where on clicking certain kinds of mission doors, you just walk and fade rather than performing the correct animation? That needs to someday be an option for teleport (when/if ever we get said power pool customization). No flashiness, no bright lights, no loud noises, just fading out and in while calmly walking. -
Pretty much, it's really rare for me to run across any but my own DM/Rad Defender. And I frequently find myself wondering why I don't see more while I'm able to make teams take on massive spawns with no issues (or take them on myself).

Hyper in-game and hyped on the forums are often different. In-game, at least by my perception, Dark Miasma seems underrated. Almost never see one. In-forum, Dark Miasma gets a lot of "This set is awesome!"
My own list, including several frequently mentioned. Note that this doesn't necessarily mean I dislike these sets. Some I play.
Fire/Kin Controller
Kin/Fire Corr
Elec/SD Scrapper
Super Strength anything
Willpower anything
Bad Empaths (I'd argue good Empaths are under-hyped)
Sonic Resonance (Let's be clear here: any amount of hype for this set is overhype. Compared to all the other options, it's, in my opinion, that bad. I like the set, but it really, really needs a look)
Rad/Sonic Defender
Power Mastery on Defenders
Body Mastery (and equivalents) on Scrappers/Brutes/Tanks
Illusion/Rad Controller
Psy/EM Blasters (In PvP only. Yeah, well built they kick serious butt, but there's plenty of other viable alternatives (and ATs). Maybe or maybe not in the top-end competitive scene, but I've never played or seen that level). -
Quote:Grab a level 50 (or other high level) who hasn't used their secondary build, or one you don't mind respecing into a skier. Then grab and 3-6 slot for speed/jump Super Speed, Super Jump, Sprint (or equivalent vet reward), Swift, Hurdle, and anything you might have in your primary or secondary that makes you faster, such as Quickness and Elude for Super Reflexes. The rest of the powers and slots can be dumped anywhere, after 6-slotting these powers for maximum speed and jumping, as this build will be incredibly inefficient for combat. Therefore, you'll want to leave any builds you care about untouched unless you're prepared to sink two respecs.dunno about the skiing I have not "caught onto" the ways of actually getting anything on the slope badges and what not.
After that, just practice and try and try again. Making a build like this got me gold on both slopes fairly easily once I got the hang of the slopes. Super Jump is great for making sure you maintain high air speed and can easily hit check points without having to backtrack.
You could possibly nab a bronze with Fly on the shorter slope with some mad skillz. -
I just now noticed the piece done of my character (Lenari), though admittedly my power cord deciding to quit and needing replacement didn't really help. I can definitely say I like it. And she still doesn't seem to quite understand that cold weather means more clothing, not less, though I'm certainly not complaining.
-
Sorry I missed. I was a primary slot for at least a moment but, regardless if I ever got the Mac test client running or not became irrelevant when I collided with Real Lifeā¢.
Grats on the completions! Did anyone by chance get a look at some of the AV's stats? -
I'd love to pop in and give BM some revenge smacking, though I doubt I'd be available for this. Feel free to add me to a list of "alternates who probably can't make it". If I'm not there, can someone point a power analyzer at her a few times, particularly in the second round against her? I'm very curious about her stats.

Quote:Could be possible that I may have had aggro a lot, causing me to get beaten on much more often. It took our tank something like twenty minutes to realize blue patch = dead, he even tried to unstop through it. Our Brute didn't fair much better. There was four other Scrappers, but only one other one had Confront. Though I seemed to be able to out taunt her between tossing Confront, Ball Lightning, and one-slotted Mu Bolts from range. I got poked by crossbow bolts a lot.Same, I don't recall feeling as smacked around as Pheonix is describing by Battle Maiden in the numerous runs I made on Beta.
Or it could be temporary. Not sure until someone hits her with a power analyzer a few times. Not sure when my next run will be, so someone, like that all Scrapper Apex, may beat me to it. I wouldn't be surprised if she had Aim, Build Up, Rage, or some other temporary buff giving her extra 50% to hit with the other extra 2% coming from her AV class.
