    Drops II

    [ QUOTE ]
Changing the Arc completion bonus so everyone gets it is not a solution...if the B drops were originally tied to single-player, non-repeatable content for a reason in the first place.

If everyone shares the reward for arcs other than their own, it becomes farmable, which may be other than what the Devs want.

If farmability is not an issue, then your suggestion works, depending on how long it takes them to write the code.

    [/ QUOTE ]
See I don't think they can be so great that they had to be that limiting. If they are then that makes them game-breaking.
I think they'll pan out as nifty little adds that are a bit better than the others.
As for farming, well I don't consider it farmable from the sense that each charcter only gets the mission once and can't reset it.
I will concede that its possible that 7 times more drops may be a bit much added into the economy, but I also think it might be needed to get the consignment houses "working as intended."

I don't like the idea that drops are tied to any one activity. All activities should drop the same stuff. You should be able to do nothing but street sweep and have access to all drops. You should be able to do nothing but TFs and be able to get all drops. etc. etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I agree, but I don't think that's where the Devs are trying to take this game.
    [ QUOTE ]
I don't have the time to sit and do a TF. If this game is so casual friendly, why is this being punished?

[/ QUOTE ] Actually I don't either; anymore for the past 6 months; but once again I think this is counter to where they've decided the game is heading.
    [ QUOTE ]
50s can't go back and redo story arcs (which they shouldn't have to do, BTW), why are they being punished?

    [/ QUOTE ]
In this case I think maybe the 50s wanting a way to do it themselves was under-prioritized. Not so much as a punishment as just forgotten/ ignored. The consignment houses where to be our access point.
    [ QUOTE ]
You honestly want to take your 50 and redo the Dr Vahz story arc? Not me. I already suffered through that with my 50 once. I should get the drop grandfathered-style.

    [/ QUOTE ]
No, I never meant to imply that I wanted to do it, but that I consider it an acceptable solution for what I see the goal being. The flood on the economy would trivialize these before the economy even got started and I think thats counter to the goal.

I am listening to your ideas, but a Flashback system is simply not something we can implement in a timeframe you would all be happy with.

Instead we are looking into other options to get you the Pool B choice so level 50s don't feel gimped.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It could be as simple as:

if you are beyond a Story Arc, but have completed the Arc, those special drops can come as the result of simple fighting. And any future drops for Arcs will be available as you complete them. If you are level 50, then all the Arc drops for Arcs you've completed will come to you over time by defeating enemies.

If you didn't complete a Story Arc and are passed it then I say tough luck - you should have done your arcs.

That is reasonable and rewards those that took the time to do the Arcs in the first place when there wasn't this kind of incentive.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ha, I love this kind of attitude. At what point was doing your story arcs ever stated as the required way to play? I have a 50 that did all his arcs, that I could anyways, and a 50 thats done none. The second was after I got burnt out on doing the same missions over and over again. So I street swept and occassionally helped others when asked. My other like 15 alts could be called a mixture of the first 2; leaning more on the side of having done the arcs.
Anywho, no I don't feel this is an acceptable out for the Devs. Instead everytime I see that quote I wonder, "Would we have a Flashback System, if it had been started on TWO YEARS ago when I first read the idea?"
I'll let the Devs in on a little secret here, I haven't played 40+ characters; counting the ones that I took to the teens then deleted; inorder to do the same things over and over again. I've done it for the customization(powers, costumes, bio). The ones that are still on my account are held for the love of what they do and the 50s with the hope that I'll have more to do with them.
So my solution other than what should have been started on 2 years ago is Change the Arc Completion bonus so everyone gets it.
This would actually solve the 50s issue and would help get stuff into the economy for the auction house to function.

The only reason to have the different pools is to encourage people to do content they may otherwise not do. If I'm not doing trials and TFs now, why do you want to me to start? I'd do them if I had the time or they were fun. I don't and they aren't. I'm surprised you don't have a PvP pool, since that is essentially the same thing.

I don't have time to do much more than a few missions here and there (lengthy sessions are out of the question) and the invention system seems like it could be a fun way to extend my waning interest.

Just throwing this out there for devs consideration.

If you really must have the different pools, just know you are rewarding some and not all. I do not have the time to complete most if not all of the TFs. I know that isn't your fault, but there it is.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow, you actually just convinced me that there should be a PvP pool. Seriously.
I'm also in the same boat you are, in that I haven't had more than 45 minutes of continuous play in about 6 months.
  5. Just when I think I'm out, they drag me back in! /e shakesfist
And for such a short reply(on my end.)
    Yeah, makes sense.

<---walks off mumbling about having to borrow a post from somewhere.....
  6. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply that you do get "ruffled" over the use of the word. That was meant as a general comment and in regards to some of the harsher posts on the subject.
You are correct all words do have power and meaning, my point being that over one's self they only have as much as that person gives them.
When I first heard(read but it just feels wierd typing that) it used in game I was like "Hunh?" and shrugged it off. Then after a few more times I started paying attention to how it was used. The user wasn't trying to be derogatory with it; it just happened to be how they referred to their ingame character. Now how can I hold that against them when the base word isn't even a derogatory word? Is it to some degree a stretch of meanings? Yes, I would say so, but the association is there.
As to being inaccurate, peurile(hehe had to look that one up) and diminutive: Inaccurate? Yes, its not dead on. Peurile? I'll say it does have a childish sound to it and connotations, but then again so does playing video games; to the vast majority of the populace I might think. Diminutive? Only if the speaker intends it that way or if the listener chooses to take it as such.
Well reached my max post on a subject. I'll agree to disagree.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Yup, I agree. I'm not ranting at people who say toon. I just think the term is a diminutive one, and trivialises its subject. When I hear someone use it, I don't shout, but I consider it a mark against them in my mind. Why?

Look at the reasons people are giving for using the term. "I heard it first," or "These are just animated cartoons in a game," etc.

The first is simply one of first exposure. It'd be like calling your genitals a peepee for the rest of your life because that's what you heard first. That's not a very compelling reason to me.

The others seem to revolve around people's conception of their "toon" being just some in-game thing they make use of and exists nowhere else. To me, that speaks to a certain attitude towards their creation that I don't share. For me to spend the many hours we do with these things, they'd better damn well be something more than just a flat in-game "toon". I want a character.

That doesn't make me right, but it does tend to make people that say toon, "not my kind of people", the same way it might someone who refers to "bitchiz an' hos".

    [/ QUOTE ]

See I can't see giving the word that kind of power. The negative connotations you are applying to it are of your own creation. I have yet to read one person in game use it as a derogatory term. To compare it to "bitchiz an' hos" is a bit of a stretch; IMHO; as the base words themselves are negative connotations themselves when used to refer to a human female.
Just for the record I'm not actually a kid myself I'm 34 with wife and children of my own. Also all my avatars are what you would refer to as characters, full bios and such.
I just don't see the point of getting my feathers in a ruffle or holding it against someone if they refer to my Harley as a bike. People will generally give you much better reasons to get pissed at them.
And not to quote myself, but
"Words have as much power as the listener gives them."
  8. Words have as much power as the listener gives them.
I didn't always refer to my characters as toons, but picked it up over time in CoX.
I think "Grease Monkey" has derogatory undertones(presented by the speaker) that toon doesn't carry, but then I gotta remind myself:
"Words have as much power as the listener gives them."

Edited to add: Every one of my characters/ toons has a bio unique and thought out to them. All of them are thought out from power selection to costume creation(which never takes less than an hour to get just right.) So I do take great pride in my toons I guess for me the two words have become synonymous.
  9. Verbally I say character, but in type I use toon; as I'm just lazy like that.

In all honesty, would it really kill the developers to give us one free permanent respec to our level 30+ characters...so we can play around with things?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shuffle around 67 enhancements more than once a year? Please god no! Takes a bloody hour.

Actually, I've yet to use a second respec on any character I own, most of them have 3-5 'banked' against future major changes. Probably because I just don't feel that optimax perfection is a) acheivable or b) necessary. Or maybe I'm just good at making good stable, flexible builds, I dunno.

But watching characters swap back and forth between PvP and PvE builds daily....no, I think that's quite a bit too much to ask for.

With all due respect is it? It is a side effect of having an open Test Server but this is not what it's intended for. I mean really if it was wouldn't this be mentioned in the opening tutorial or something...hey maybe they should add that.

    Edited to add the following:
I do think every issue should offer a free respec and for no better reason than it's nice to have one...plus all the other reasons given by other posters

FYI: Melee AT Patron Power Pool Ranged attacks which cause damage will be changed to using the Melee damage scale.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Follow Up:
Stalker Snipe PPPs are back to being Ranged damage. The changes I'd made to keep them balanced got nixed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is fine; as long as the text represents the scale the other Stalker attacks follow. What I mean is if I pick a power that says Extreme out of my primary then any other power that says Extreme should do roughly the same damage. It should not say Extreme and only do medium damage comparitively.
To leave it that way is misleading and dare I say intentionally deceiving.
  13. In no way is this a slam on _Castle_. (My favorite Dev )
With that said, how in the heck does this make any sense? Is this explained ingame? Is it in the manual that comes with the game? If it is, I'm sorry 'cause I haven't seen it. Are you notified when you pick a PP?
I ask these things, because I really question the intent of this. I have read Dev posts claiming that things should be easy on the Casual Gamer(which I agree with). But once again this is a system that not only requires board knowledge/ use; it potentially requires the use of the Test Server to play the game. Its counter intuitive.
Don't get me wrong, I have Tested, I have bugged things on test and I will continue to do so.
But everytime there is something that comes up, that requires Test Server Use just to enjoy the game... it really bothers me, I find it @55'9.
And I can only speak of my Tanker, but I didn't notice any disparity of damage between his regular attacks and his EPs when he had them. (And I was looking ) So I don't think this is any longer the case with Tanks at least.
Just my thoughts, but this really should be changed one way or another. Concerning the PPPs not the EPPs .
  14. I hope it didn't appear that I was saying the heavies needed to be nerfed. No, I think they got that part right. What I do see as a problem though is the virtually free exp. Yes I realize there is the potential of danger, but if you have a heavy and stay away from the combat spots I think most peeps are gonna leave you alone.
Why bother the guy thats keeping the BFG busy mowing the lawn?
And yes, against the Villians it wasn't so survivable. But mobs posed no real threat.
And its not to hard to keep one away from the AVs when your just there to get exp.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Actually, I think that players should be limited to one at a time, and perhaps lose the Heavy after a zone reversion - just to keep things fresher.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I agree with players only having one at a time: absolutely should be changed to this; but rather than losing it with zone revision I'ld like to see a timer of some sort. Say half an hour.
Got my hands on a Heavy the other night and must say they are powerful. Do see a problem with them though. I was able to fly around bringing death and destruction to Aracnos forces with impunity. The mobs aren't large enough to bring any danger to the Heavy. So its very little risk for exp. with one of these things.
Just think this might need some looking into.

Please consider changing taunt enhancements so that they will boost accuracy and duration in PvP. I can't stand the thought of slotting a power for PvP use what will provide ZERO benifit in the PvP game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    /signed.

Is this a first? Is there any other power in the game which takes enhancements that only work in PvP?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, although Stealth stacking with Hide is comparable. It does nothing in PvE. Anything in PvE that can see through Hide can see through Hide+Stealth at any range that would aggro it (possible exception: snipers). That makes stacking the two powers totally pointless in PvE, but of course it's known to be very useful in PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

100% on this? Reason I ask is that my Stalk has managed to A/S those Rikti drones without them seeing him and gets seen with only Hide on. Same with another mob, but can't seem to remember what it was. Stopped running missions with just Hide on so don't know about any others. Besides you get the Def of both, yes?
    Sorry was off subject.

That being as may be; I find the concept of any Enhancement working only in PvP rather disturbing. As a possible suggestion make the Acc Enhancements increase the number affected in PvE.
  18. A few of my thoughts,
IMHO the whole Patron thing is a great idea. Would love to see this implemented in Coh. After all isn't being a part of something bigger than oneself; for the greater good; what many heroes are about. I know conceptually this would have meshed well with many of my heroes.
And there in lies the problem at the same time.
It always struck me that tutoring, asking for help, and accepting help when offered to be noble traits. Not those of most villians. But then it occurred to me that this doesn't have to be the be all of end alls.
So I have hope for the future where we just might be given the option to do the classic villian underling move and betray our teacher/ mentor/ patron.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
First...I confirm that we're working on right now (as in pohsyb in the next room) to add CoV costume parts into CoH if you own both games....

Then we repeal the hated stealth nerf. The reason why: many well reasoned posts. It's that simple. You guys pointed out the problems.

AND now...we're changing the way Archvillains spawn. A ton of forum goers disliked adding so many AV's into missions a while back...so we've come up with a solution. If the team size and mission difficulty are ABOVE a certain level, an Archvillain spawns. Below that, players will face only an Elite Boss. If the mission is set on the first two levels of difficulty, it takes 4 heroes or more to spawn an Arch Villain. On the third level, 3 heroes or more. On the fourth level, 2 heroes. On the highest (Invincible), a solo hero will spawn an AV. Note this works in BOTH City of Heroes and Villains.

In order to incentivize larger teams, Positron is going to add a bonus to AV rewards!

  20. [ QUOTE ]
Now you took the Recharge enhancements out because you thought there would be confusion...what prevented you guys from putting in the long/short help that Recharge enhancements would enhance the Henchmen and not the recharge of the Summoning of the Henchmen?

Or were there balance issues about recharge that would have lead to even more problems? I can see MMs slotting Recharge in their Henchmen in order to squeeze out more DPS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually what he said was that it didn't affect the Henchmen, but the summoning power, which was opposite of what all the other enhancements do.
  21. Hey here's an idea. How about once all the action starts the NPCs cower against the walls and in corners. I don't know like a real bank robbery. /shrug
