3. Put in filters that allow us to choose whom to accept Email from:
[x] ALL
[x] Friends List
[x] Global Friends List
Supergroup/Coalition and Game-related emails would not be blocked. Friends and Global Friends lists refer to the recipient's lists, not the sender's.
[/ QUOTE ]
does this mean i can leave them all disabled and not recieve emails at all? pls. pls. pls.?
[/ QUOTE ]You would still get email sent by your supergroup and it's coalitions, and any emails from the game moderators/devs/etc. Other than that, yes, turning all those off would block ALL other emails. -

If you did that, then it would be obvious that you were padding, the real trick is to pad but make it look natural.

Exactly.

I concur.

Does anyone remember before there was the Forum Games section a weekly thread (on Thursdays I believe) for the PCPA (post count padders anonymous)?

I like this idea and don't think we should just limit it to travel but make it just like the SB we get from KIN. Attack rate, end recovery, everything would be accelerated for that time period.
Now for the names I understand where you are going the larger the inspiration the LONGER the distance but in reality the person running a 100 yd dash is going faster than the one in a 10 or 20 K marathon because the marathoner has to pace him or herself for the longer race. How about something like this:
Rapid all powers accelerate 15% for 45 seconds
Rush all powers accelerate 20% for 60 seconds
Race all powers accelerate 25% for 90 seconds
Just an suggestion but I do like this idea.
[/ QUOTE ]Giving it full Speed Boost power makes it TOO powerful. I don't want to infringe on Controller(?) territory, nor do I want to cause any balance issues. I don't think we should be able to Speed Boost ourselves, because SB really is a very powerful buff.
I don't think it should come in sizes, because you can only get the smallest size inspirations from contacts, and I don't want it to drop in combat. I do NOT want to reduce the quantity of other inspirations that I get in battle.
I don't want a combat advantage. I just want to be able to make those low-level "clear on the other side of the zone" runs a little faster, that sort of thing.
Agreed, no stacking, normal suppression in combat, both PvE and PvP. I wouldn't even object to it being completely suppressed in a PvP zone, because part of the challenge of PvP zone missions is getting to your destination fast enough. -
I completely acknowledge that that scenario would be easy to work around. But that wasn't my point.
Guy2 wants to show Guy1 the cool base Guy2 and his buddies have. And he can't if their server is closed to new characters. Thus closing the highest pop servers to new characters to increase population on the "wasted" ones would be Not A Good Thing for the game. It would send a very negative first impression to that potential new customer.
But as others have pointed out, Tongo is acting like the only answer that will satisfy him is the one that does what HE wants, and [censored] everyone else. -
How about a new Inspiration that boosts travel speed? It only comes in one size, gives a Speed Boost size travel speed increase, but none of the other benefits.
If a Speed Boost level boost is too much, then make it whatever seems balanced, but is still high enough to be useful.
Don't have it drop from mobs, but have it available immediately from contacts.
It would help with those long trips across a zone, etc., especially at the lower levels. -

Ok what if they suspended people from making toons on Freedom and Virtue for a couple months. I mean damn...theyre filled! Seriously there really wouldnt be any harm or fowl, and the other servers do need a boost
[/ QUOTE ]Dude, think about it for a minute. Your buddy has been harping about this really great game for, like, YEARS, trying to get you to just come try it. He'll help you get started, giving you a bunch of influence and helping you level up so you can join him on raids and stuff with all his buddies and they got this really cool base and everything!
So you've finally given in. You've downloaded and installed the game, you sat through the HUGE update download, and now you've got him on the phone as you're creating your first character.
"Okay, so now I'm supposed to pick a server? Which one are you all on?"
"Freedom."
"Says it's not accepting new characters until further notice. Now what?"

Preventing people from playing with their pals is Not A Good Thing.
PS It's "harm or foul".
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd just like to point out that this really isn't a valid argument. Don't get me wrong, I think preventing people from creating characters on any server they want is a horrible idea.
But say Freedom was locked out. Why couldn't the Vet player simply, god forbid, play with his buddy on a different server?
They could easily team together doing regular content, or if the Vet wants to help his friend level real fast they can go play in the MA.

"so you can join him on raids and stuff with all his buddies and they got this really cool base and everything" -- last I heard, the devs were still working on the "transfer an entire supergroup" tool. -

Costume change emote list from the Issue 15 info page:
[ QUOTE ]
[*]Backflip[*]Salute[*]Howl[*]Evil Laugh[*]Peacebringer Transform (Kheldian's only)[*]Warshade Transform (Kheldian's only)[*]Vanguard Sigil
[/ QUOTE ]
While I think the first 4 are probably self explanatory as far as what they'll look like I'm looking forward to seeing the last 3 in-game. It's strangely interesting they are offering "Kheld only" emotes - makes you wonder how long it'll take before someone whines that there are no "VEAT only" ones.
Anyway as far as the OP's emote suggestions go I like them all although my guess is that we'll never get a ccPhoneBooth one for the same reason we'll never get a "Newspaper Reporter" Day Job either. One could argue that some of the other costume change emotes are fairly familiar, but that one is SO iconic that it'd be obvious which existing hero IP that one came from.
[/ QUOTE ]Why do I suddenly have the strongest feeling of deja vu?
Make it a changing booth. A voting booth. A toll booth. Even a Powers Boothe. And it should rise up out of the ground (this one wouldn't work while flying, even after BAB fixes that bug). But I do acknowledge that it's probably not very likely.
I'd like to see "Flash" - a simple flash of light, just like when you activate Build Up.
And I can't have the Kheldian "Earth Shattering Kaboom" for my tiny little alien character? This makes me very angry. Very angry, indeed. -

If #3 is not implemented, then I'll take #1, #2, #4, #5 and a large Diet Coke, please.

Would you like to supersize that?

For 80 cents more?
Does that include Airfare to the office/warehouse where the RMT'ers have thier operations set up, diplomatic immunity and a crowbar?
I ask because I can supply my own crowbar, if need be.
[/ QUOTE ]NO, not another micro-transaction, PLEASE!!! -
Ways to reduce RMT email spam:
1. Block Trial Accounts from sending email at all. (They currently can send at level 10.) Allow them to receive as normal, and to reply to received emails, but not to change any of the addresses on the reply.
2. Limit each global account to X number of emails per 24-hour period. Set "X" to whatever value allows a generous but reasonable use of email. Exempt SG members sending to SG/Coalition members. Allow all others to apply for exemptions on a case-by-case basis. Exempt all appropriate accounts at implementation. (Obviously, Mods/Devs/GMs/etc. would all be exempted.)
3. Put in filters that allow us to choose whom to accept Email from:
[x] ALL
[x] Trial Accounts (#1 would make this superfluous)
[x] Friends List
[x] Global Friends List
Supergroup/Coalition and Game-related emails would not be blocked. Friends and Global Friends lists refer to the recipient's lists, not the sender's.
4. For extra credit, put SPAM ignore on its own list, thus restoring the functionality of our ignore list.
5. For Super Mega Extra Bonus Points, when an account is banned as a spammer, automatically delete ALL emails from that account, Server-wide.
This list is collected and refined from various people's posts all over the forums. -

If #3 were implemented, and depending on the particular settings and defaults, {example: Recieve from Trial Accounts? Default=No} #1 would not be needed and I believe full Email privledges could be granted to trial accounts.
Spammers using trial accounts would be unable to send to most of the playerbase, as they would have the default ignoring them. Legitimate users who give trial codes to thier buddies could toggle off the default setting so that they could hook up to play together.
If #3 is not implemented, then I'll take #1, #2, #4, #5 and a large Diet Coke, please.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, I put these in my best guess of difficulty to implement, and I think #1 would just be a matter of changing the current Trial Account Email limit from level 10 to, say, Level 15. [insert standard code rant and other disclaimers here]
I would rather see #3 applied with all filters set to "allow", to avoid any "learning curve" for new players. I didn't include a filter for trials, because I assumed #1 would happen before any of the others. Time to revise the list. -
Use a browser with spell checking, and at least you'd have that here.

See? And everyone called me crazy when I said an AE building in the RWZ didn't make sense!
Oh, wait, no, that's not why they called me crazy.
Well, anyhoo . . . if you did take that one out, and put in one accessible from Pocket D, why level restrict it? I thought the only reason it was there was to provide coop access. Is there a problem I don't see with allowing that at all levels? -
You find yourself automatically walking to the farthest elevator door . . . in real life.
You seriously consider taking time off for a CoH in-game event, even though you're out of personal time and would have to take it without pay.
You keep trying to figure out how to justify upgrading the graphics in your work computer so you can play CoH on your lunch. -

Word balloons for glowies! "Hummmm" "Hummmm" "Hummmm" Just like off-screen NPC comments, you'd know which way to turn, and if it was behind something, you'd still see the balloons. If you're too far away to hear it, you wouldn't see them. -

[ QUOTE ]
This has been bugging me for a while. Since the release of the AE system, I looked at the building.. and thought.. this is beautiful.. whey can't all of the buildings look like this. So I thought that maybe... instead of lead (Pb) windows, there are windows we can actually see through.. with workers doing work, chaos.. etc. It really would make it feel like a city, instead of a bunch of NPC's walking around the streets into buildings that seem like the place where vampires like to live. If you guys made the buildings see through, it would seem like a real city.
Not to mention the sky. It's obvious that the system generates marquee clouds... but why not more? Add some rain marquee.. add some snow. Make it so you can't actually vividly see the sun as it moves across the sky. I'm pretty sure that in real life, it isn't sunny every day. And this should affect the lighting too. I want the ability to change how vivid the sky is. And you guys probably think, well we couldn't incoporate rain.. it would cause map lag!... wrong.. it's all about what the camera sees. If you make it appear as if rain is falling (but on the map itself, it's not) it will feel like rain, and cause very little lag. There should be water spattering on the streets, and puddles should form when the 'rain switch' turns on. It's dissappointing that they haven't integrated this.. I feel that the one turn off about this game is the unrealistic feel that the environment gives. If we had rain, lighting effects, realistic buildings... reflective glass, and more.. then it really would feel like a city. Obviously, people will have the option to turn off rain and weather effects, as well as lower the quality of buildings.. that way people aren't lagged out of this update. I know people want it for the genuine feel of it, so please discuss. With enough support we can cause change.
[/ QUOTE ]
Every building that actually has characters inside spikes the bandwidth load. Normally, when you go through a door to a store/police station/etc., you are actually taken to a different map. (I think these submaps are actually "below" the city map.) Wentworth's and the AE buildings are different in that the people inside them are actually still on the main map. That's why many people experience a pause when they get near one of them, because the data for ALL those characters has to be sent to your computer, whether you can actually see them or not. Turning down graphics settings doesn't affect that. So putting in more of that kind of building would make it even harder for people with older systems to run the game. Not A Good Thing.
And reflective windows? Do you have ANY idea how much computation goes into reflective effects? Your graphics card (or your computer) would have to trace the line of sight from your camera position to the first pixel in the window, calculate the reflection angle, and then trace the line of sight until it intersects something, or reaches the limit of visibility. And you better hope that what it intersects isn't another reflective window or it will have to keep going. Then it would have to do it again for the window pixel next to that one. And the one next to that. And next to that. For every pixel in the window. And the window next to it. And next to that. For every single reflective window visible on your screen.
And now you moved. So start over, with the first pixel in the first window.
Reflective windows would be nice, but I'm not sure even the best home system could handle THAT load.
Weather effects are asked for regularly. And are shouted down regularly because they WOULD affect people's graphics load. If you make them lightweight, so they don't reduce visibility, then people are going to complain that they aren't realistic, that they are breaking their immersion. And if they DO affect visibility, then you're handicapping people's play for nothing but an aesthetic effect. And other people are going to complain because now their system can't even run the game at all.
Splashing puddles and falling snow would increase the graphics load, because how do you think they get animated? Every single thing in the game that you can see moving is calculated by YOUR system. So that's going to increase the load on each person's machine, and you're going to force many people who can run the game adequately now to lower their graphics settings. Again, Not A Good Thing. -
I'm Pacific Time. I work till 3:00 pm.
I'll see about half of it, at most.
But you know what? I DON'T CARE.
I believe the devs recognize that it's a work/school day for a lot of their players, and that they will make sure the "coolest" events will happen in the last part of the window, even if they also happen earlier.
I expect to enjoy the snot out of what I do see.
5 years! Congrats!
(If you skipped my long version: 12am/12pm is easy to figure out. 12:30 am is half an hour after midnight, yes? So 12:01am is one minute after midnight, yes? Then midnight itself must be 12am, not pm, because AM/PM changes on the hour, not one minute after.) -
[ QUOTE ]
Of course technically speaking noon and midnight are neither am nor pm....
To the writers of this fluff announcements. Please use noon and midnight. It will solve a whole host of confusion up front.
I mean is it that hard to write 11am until midnight (Eastern) ?
Thats total clarity right there.
Of course then there is your use of EST, when the 'real world' East coast is on EDT right now.
aside from that:
Grats on the 5 years and I cant wait for the event.
[/ QUOTE ]Well, if you're going to get technical, noon and midnight are the conventions, 12am and 12pm are very specific.
12:00 actually refers to the entire minute from 12:00:00.00 to 12:01:00.00. Since the time at 1 minute after midnight is 12:01 AM, and since the AM/PM shift happens at 12:00:00.00, not at one minute after, then the minute before 12:01 am must ALSO be am.
"Meet me at midnight May 1st." Now does that mean the midnight between Apr 30 and May 1, or the midnight between May 1 and May 2? THAT's the non-specific one, that needs more information to figure out. Some people will say it's the one that occurs the night of Apr 30. Others will say it's the one that occurs the night of May 1. I've seen people practically come to blows over it, arguing over why one didn't meet the other at the agreed on "midnight" time.
"Meet me at 12:00 am May 1st" is much more specific, There's only one 12:00 that meets that description. The one that comes before 12:01 am May 1st. -
Well, carp. The 15 seconds was "broken". So just ignore #4.

Generic IOs:
Level 15 is roughly the same as a DO. And they never expire.
Level 25 is about the same as an SO. And they never expire.
I start bidding on and slotting level 15 Accuracy and Damage once I hit level 12. With just a little bit of patience, you can often buy them on the market already crafted, quite cheaply. People working on the crafting badges tend to dump them cheap. And they never expire.
I fill my other slots with level 15s as practical. And they never expire.
I start replacing those with level 25's when I hit 22. The game is balanced around DOs and SOs, so those level 25s could carry you the rest of the game. And they never expire.
I also start frankenslotting then, but only as time and patience permit. Frankenslotting, if you're not already familiar with it, is basically just using the same enhancements from different sets to get more bonus in fewer slots than you can with SOs. Read some of the invention guides in the forums for more info.
And did I mention that IOs never expire? -
