why no spell checker?
"curious" "isn't" "I" "to check" "that's" "suppose" "like" "dialog"
There you go
The reality is this is a huge project. They worked for months on it. It is not perfect, polished, and done. A lot of things are missing. A spell checker is one of them.
Edit: and a spell checker is not required - you have to fix critical bugs. Nice to have features come last.
Spell checking requires a dictionary to run comparisons with - dictionaries are several megs in size. Since the entire MA system is LOCAL (as in, everything you do when creating a mission is local-side and does not involve trading data with the remote servers) this requires that spellchecking be done locally.
So, while a few extra megabytes on a > 1GB game probably won't kill anyone, its a big addition. I know a lot of companies shy away from integrated spellchecking in their software for that reason.
Use a browser with spell checking, and at least you'd have that here.

why would i do that... you wouldnt be able to make snide comments if i did..
But you do realize some people just have trouble spelling cause of the way there brain is wired, and not cause they are stupid.. there are many disablities that can effect it too.
No one says crap if you suck in math, or cant even name the last 2 presidents, or cant even point out north amercia on a globe.. But miss spell Speel and its a travisty..

With the amount of complants i see about spelling i think its more a "must have" than Nice to have..
But thats why editors make the big bucks.. ohh wait, they dont, the writers do
Type it out into a word program first, copy & paste afterwards still works just fine . (I think you can paste into the MA Editor anyhoo...never tried with anything but chat)
COH/CoV - Virtue
8 Ball - Lev 50 Kin/Energy Defender
The Canadian Fist - Lev 50 Ice/EM Blaster
Omega Ghost - Lev 50 Robo/Dark MM

Works just fine -- more or less. Last week I discovered that it has some issues if you try to paste the Arc Editor's faux-HTML into a text field. Inserts a few junk characters in between the tags.

I'm pretty sure there are lots of people on the forums who would make snide comments about everything in that list, but none of those things come up very often. Spelling errors are visible in every single post.
Rather than getting bent out of shape because people pointed out your spelling errors in your missions, you could correct the errors and feel grateful that some total stranger took time out of their life to offer up their assistance, free of charge, in an area where you have difficulty.

[/ QUOTE ]Last time I wrote a program with an integrated spellchecker, it used 3 dictionaries (English, German, and French); they were sized 540kb, 748kb, and 1911kb, respectively. 3.199mb total, and just over half a mb if I just used English.
Dictionaries really aren't that bad, especially since they're just text, and can therefore be efficiently compressed.
Edit: Firefox's English dictionary for its integrated spellcheck is 596kb.

And, y'know, browsers like Firefox come with a spell-check built right in.
IE is de debbil, I say!
Dec out.

I wasnt getting bent that people pointed it out by the way.. It was just annoying that they had too cause of lack of a spell checker.
On constieration, even though that did pop up in every comment, they also did say the loved the story. One person said, it was the best arc they played yet, another said they would definatly play another i made. Only a few were sorta well, doesnt mater, but even they said they enjoyed the story, outside of the spelling.
My point of the post was to adress the fact that there isnt one, and i think its something that should be in there. Im working on getting the mission spelling/grammer mistake free, but its taken me a bit. Up till now ive been working on getting the mission bug free, story, flow, content.. all working before i did final spell check/grammer. Though im gonna go hit the main story text with copy paste atleast for now. Hopefully between fixing the main stuff and the glowy addition the NPC text wont bug them as much... as i have a TON to go through.
Im also adding a glowy to the first room of the mission, along with my feedback welcome glowy, Spellchecker Besides it will work with the theme.. the circle has something to do witht the story and they like books right?, basically acknowledging the fact i know they exist and im working on getting them removed soo maybe i can get more helpfull feedback. Like.. Loved the mission mobs, great maps, didnt like 4rd mission theme.. ext, something that would be more helpfull.
I also returned all global comments with a thank you, and saying that its being fixed, and short reply on there other comment. they did take the time to give me feedback, i think its common curtsey. I also took down names of people that said they would like to play more of mine, soo i can send them a message when i add another.
In a way i should look at it as a positive thing i guess.. If the only thing they didnt like was the spelling.. thats a very easy fix incomparison to, Story sucked, mobs sucked, maps sucked, custom bosses sucked.. basically outta everything that could.. I supose spelling is the one i can live with.

Hmm, Ive never used it, though i have heard about it. Is it a good browser? Perhaps i should look into it.
Is there a way to play CoH in a window? that would make it much easier to copy/paste if i could window the game/MA and put it next to the spell checker prog, im gonna install office on this new comp just havent gotton around to it yet.
Hmm is there an offline MA builder? that would even be better esepcially for something like this. I dont need to play test spelling checks, then just log in and edit and repub?
Yes, people wouldn't bother to tell you about the spelling unless they thought the story itself was good enough to be worthwhile. I agree a spellchecker would be a nice feature, but I can't judge how practical it is from a coding point of view.
Of course, if they do add one, then we'll get to brawl with the folks in the UK over how to spell words like center and color!

again.. sorry if i made it seam like i was saying how i didnt like the people saying.. Spell check.. like i say, wish i could of done it in the editor.
I did install word, which has SP+grammer checker, which is a program which i honestly think you can get the eqaul in freeware at this point in time.
This really should be added to the MA
Just currious why this isnt a feature of MA. I know i can copy paste too check, but thats a total pain. I supose i could edit the text file with MS word, But for some reason when i change stuff on the mission the thing comes up invalid for some reason. Outside of the fact that there are limits on what things can say and many times they are right at the limit, ilke 100 characters for speak, or 300 on clues. heck even main quest dialoge can run long at times. having to count characters+spaces and line breaks and color keys is kinda a pain which can also break things in the editor
Sooo basically, whats up? there is a crazy name filter, yet no spell checker.
