This is only barely relevant to the OP, but the conversation reminded me of an incident from a D&D campaign I was running "way back when" (from the original, half-size booklets).
The characters needed to get to the bottom of a 100' cliff. They had the means to get everyone down quickly and safely, but one player (playing a Hobbit Thief) insisted on waiting until everyone else was down, then said "I step off the cliff."
I knew he didn't have anything to protect him from a 100' fall, so I said, "1d6 per 10', 10d6 of damage."
"How about [u]no[u] d6 of damage?" he said, and pointed to something on his character sheet: Boots of Traveling and Leaping.
I grabbed the rules to check my memory, then pointed HIM to where it said "allow leaps of up to 50' horizontally and 30' vertically."
"Okay," I said, "[u]7[u]d6 of damage." I rolled more than enough to kill him, and said, "You all watch as he steps off the cliff and plummets to the ground. What do you do?"
The leader said, "We watch. He [u]must[u] know what he's doing."
I said, "Okay, he's now lying at the base of the cliff in front of you, not moving or making a sound. Both legs are bent in places legs don't normally bend."
Leader: "Then again, maybe not." -
Leave it alone. Comic heroes can plunge multiple stories and catch a ledge without ripping their arm out of its socket. Or land on concrete and they don't even have to roll to dissipate the energy.
We [u]should[u] be able to do similar at high levels. -
This is one of those "other ways"
:
If you haven't changed the default keys, hold down Page Up and use the left and right arrow keys to rotate the camera around your character without risk of changing the vertical angle. Use the up and down arrows to change the vertical angle. (I use this rather than mouselook to avoid changing the vertical angle unintentionally.)
Hit Page Down to return to the default angle. This resets the horizontal direction only. It does not reset the vertical angle. The vertical angle will USUALLY reset when you enter/exit a zone or mission.
The scroll wheel will let you zoom in and out, this also resets with Page Down. -

Wow. Some of you people sound like you're jaded beyond enjoying the game anymore. Myself, I've only been playing since January, and I can't wait to see this. I get all excited when the sky turns red or green...
[/ QUOTE ]
Me too! Sky turning eerie and then crowds of players pumping up to take them down the min they arrive... I love it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, but wait until its there are a few more, then a few more, and then another is announced.
A few more will be posting that it gets tiring to have the same "special event" happen over and over again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Quick, without looking it up, can anyone name the last time we had an Invasion event? These things don't happen very often, and even during the event, as someone else pointed out, you'll only see the invasion once every three hours, unless you change zones alot and catch more, or hang out in a zone that doesn't have them and don't see any at all.
At least the badges you get from the Rikti Invasion give you something halfway useful.
[/ QUOTE ]LGTF triggered invasions aside, the last Invasion Event was late last year, IIRC.
I started playing right when I10 went live, so I've been experiencing them just as long as anyone. I still love them. Like others said, the sky changing color, the sound of the war walls dropping, the sirens wailing, all that gets my heart pumping. -

None of those pictures give me the creeps, except for this one.

You, however, just gave me heebie-jeebie material for a MONTH!

Many SGs send a welcome/introduction email to new members.
The last email I sent was late last year. -
WOOHOO!!! I love Invasions! Even if it is a lagfest!
Wait, only a weekend? Not a full week?
WAAAAHHHH!!!! -
I logged on last night to do a little messing around on a L44 Blaster. I didn't feel like doing any AE, and fully expected to be soloing. He was about 2/3 to 45, so I figured I'd see how much closer I could get him.
Within a couple minutes I had a tell "Want to do L46 missions in PI?"
I replied "Please forgive my hesitation, but do you mean real missions or farm/pling?" (I was NOT interested in running the Behemoth farm half a dozen times again.)
"Scanner missions"
"Sure!"
I then ran several scanner missions with a very good bunch of players, with only a little dieing. I got him the rest of the way to 45 and half way to 46, and had a great time.
The regular game is NOT dead. Even on a "dead" server like Champion. -

So I've been reading this thread for the past few days

I know it's not a permanent fix but every bit helps to get them to notice the rest of the game.

lol I met a newby 2 nights ago, had no vet badges .. him n his friend, they were leading a team of lvl 8-12s in kr n decided to go to sky for scanner missions, i didnt want to be the go here do this type so i followed along i had my lvl 10 blaster..
When in sky they spoke about seeing a detective for a scanner, mind you he had scanner in kr lol, so i sent a tell explaining nicely that once u have a scanner there is no need to see the det. in evry zone untill its bank time n he asks to see u... BTW he was a lvl 12 tank
[/ QUOTE ]
I was under the impression you did need to see the detective once to "get the frequencies" for the zone. Is that incorrect?
[/ QUOTE ]
You only need to talk to ONE detective ever, but what they say indicates that you need to talk to one in each zone. Damn liars.

So how about this?
If you are higher than the zone level range, you cannot enter the data stream. You get a message saying you are too high in level to use this data stream, and you should go to the AE building in [zone(s) appropriate for your level].
If you are within OR BELOW the range, no problem. I repeat, within OR BELOW the zone range. (People seem to miss that part of this suggestion.)
No restriction on new characters using AE in the starting zone. No restriction on leveling all the way to 50 in MArch, except they have to change zones periodically (just like with regular content). Doesn't even prevent a level 1 from teaming with a level 50, they just have to both be in a zone appropriate for the level 50.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not a good idea. For lower levels to go team with higher levels they would have to go to a more dangerous zone. NOT a good idea at all.
At that point you might as well just get rid of the auto sk. Also, it's a restriction that doesn't exist anywhere else in game.
EDIT: For vets this is no issue, as I can easily manuvear my level one toons from zone to zone to get to PI easily. Folks making these suggestions need to keep in mind we are talking about lower level toons here who may not be vets.
[/ QUOTE ]If they're a friend you're introducing to the game, you should be helping them out. Log onto a lower level character, or help them get to the AE building. Just like it was before AE...you had to help the lowbie get to the high-level zone if you wanted them to join you there.
If you don't know them, helping them get to the right AE building will help the game by giving them a better impression of players. If you don't want to deal with helping the newbie, then just kick 'em. ("LOLing" them is optional.)

Sci-Fi Channel jumped the shark when they started showing wrestling. This finally admits they don't care about anything but the majority audience.
I can't help reading it as "siffy", too. -

Or to put it much more simply:
The min/maxers would build whatever they decided the über build was, no one else would be able to get on a team, and the game would die. -

It's a high rise building. Are they open to the air?
[/ QUOTE ]
Parking structures.
Hmm. Maybe that's why I can see the chat text from people inside. The AE buildings are the Parking Lot of the Darned.
[/ QUOTE ]You can see the chat text because, unlike most buildings (as has been mentioned), the interior really is on the other side of that wall. Thus, like in many missions, you can "hear" NPC chat even though there's a solid wall between you. -

It sounds like you made a separate account instead of just upgrading your Trial. If you upgrade the Trial your Trial characters are still playable.
Characters don't get deleted after X time around here. If they are below level 6 and the owner's account has been in-active for a time the names become available again, but the characters themselves won't be deleted.
Did you UPGRADE or ADD a to your PlayNC account?

Then you'd have to re-toggle all your powers every single mission . . . far more annoying that the occasional inconsiderate yahoo.

It would be nice if the no-powers room had it's own MA mission access though, for those of us who either don't have toggles or are willing to put up with it.

Instead of 3 months, make it one character, 3 levels. First character to hit level 4 unlocks AE for the entire account. After that, they can even take a brand new character into AE, if they want.
That way they've talked to a contact, done at least one door mission, and had experience with both choosing powers and placing slots.
Make it retroactive to EVERY existing account at the time they implement it. Sure, a few who haven't "qualified" yet will slip past, but that's better than a new player suddenly losing AE access that they had.
It doesn't restrict farming or powerleveling, all it does is give a brand new account a taste of the rest of the game. -
[ QUOTE ]
The AE building appears to be different from the other buildings in the game. With other buildings, when you enter through a door, you actually get moved to a room far beneath the world geometry. Originally, from what I've heard, there was a point where doors opened and the inside of the buildings were seamless with the outside. These led to problems with mobs following players into the shops, and then attacking patrons that were shopping or afk. So they moved the "inside" of the buildings to far underground.
AE building seems different. You can see out the windows, but can't see in, which is odd, and that would mean that the upper level of AE is at least in the spot we see it in the gameworld. The lower level, where you enter from the street, I'm not sure of. Maybe it's far underground like the other shops.
[/ QUOTE ]You can see out from street level. It's fun to watch other players zipping past, or even coming up to the doors and entering. So I assume it's on the same level. -
Then you'd have to re-toggle all your powers every single mission . . . far more annoying that the occasional inconsiderate yahoo.
So if the interior is really right there, how come we can only see out of the windows, and not in? -

"Be Introduced to New Contact"
When we complete a story arc outside of AE, our contacts introduce us to someone new. I've run quite a few story arcs in AE that continue a larger story in another arc. It would be nice to have an option to have the contact for one arc "introduce you" to the next contact so you do not have to return to the terminal and search for the next one in the chain. I am thinking all that would be required here is a single field to enter the next arc ID into.
[/ QUOTE ]
Can you use the ending message for this in the meantime?
"Congratulations, you saved the puppies, but the kitties are still in danger! Go see ContactJoe (Arc #) to save the kitties!"
