  1. Hey I'm a long time player, although I just returned to the game. I always wanted to play a scrapper, but I wasn't sure what I wanted. But now I sort of do, and I thought I would enlist the help of the scrapper pros.

Basically I want a boss killer. My vision of this guy is to join 8 man teams (for the purposes of this a generic team will do just fine) and only focus on the bosses until I kill them all. I don't want to argue whether this is effective, I just want to try this for myself.

I am pretty much set on regen, although if any of you have strong urges elsewhere, go ahead. So my problem is the primary. Right now I'm looking at BS and MA, although I am a scrapper noob.

Anyway, any advice would be fantastic thanks!

    Brutiest Brute?

Hey thanks guys, so I gone done away with my silly BA brute and went with a viking helmet wearing, power wrench wielding, underwear toting WM/WP brute and he is ultra brutey. Why is he WP? He's too dumb to die.But thanks all for the help

    Brutiest Brute?

First off, thank you to all who responded. You have given me great ideas.

With regards to my critics, who I actually think have brought me alot of information and opinions that I wanted, I'm not trying to build the "best" of each AT. I am well aware there is no such thing. For example, my fire/fire blaster, which is the only one out of that list that I actually leveled and is the only one that is set in my decision (all the others of course can change, I'll probably ask that specific board when the time comes about what powerset they would recommend), isn't the best. Yes, in a vacuum he will outdamage most if not all other blasters in just pure numbers. But real life is no where close to a vacuum so when it all evens out I end up doing the same or even less damage than the blasters who have more utility or survivability. But the point is, that was the character concept I wanted to follow. I'm definitely not the best blaster. I just believe I fit the description the best, even if it is a detriment to me.

And yes, I appreciate all of the other who have commented on my selection for heroes, but as I don't want this thread to get derailed, don't worry about that list. Those were just examples to give you an idea of what I was talking about. I would be very surprised if any of them didn't change.

So back to the topic at hand, WP does seem the most brutey. I liked Atago's description of a brute and what he does. I prefer not to think of brutes as a cross between tanks and blasters but just as brutes, and what he described seemed to me to fit what a brute does. WP is probably going to be my choice but as far as primary goes I still am looking at SS but BA sounds very appealing. The thought of just some guy picking up an axe and going hog wild on everyone is too much to pass up.

Again, thank you everyone for helping me with this, admittedly, not very important decision. But I find it very interested just from reading this what people think brutes should be.

    Brutiest Brute?

Greetings I am a long time player who just recently reactivated, not because of Going Rogue, but because I felt like it. In fact I wasn't aware of Going Rogue until after I activated.

Anyway, so my quest in this game is to make the AT-est AT of each...AT. It's not necessarily the most efficient, for I find builds only built for efficiency to take the fun out of the game for me. I am pretty much set on what I want with heroes. I will give you an example of my heroside plans just to give you a general idea of what I want.

Blaster-Fire/Fire. Blasters in theory are supposed to be glass cannons who can destroy entire cities if they don't die. So in this respect I chose fire/fire, ignoring any defenses I may have and taking any sort of thing that might cause damage (ie: Hotfeet and Burning Aura, which in all regards are taunt auras) and slotting IOs Primarily for damage, Secondarily for Recharge, and avoiding defense.

Controller-Earth/TA-Simple, it offers a crazy amount of control. I also plan on getting presence so I can fear them.

Defender-Sonic/Sonic-Sonic/ seems to have the most to offer a team. While emps are considered the poster child of defenders, they don't offer debuffs, which I believe is what defenders should do as well.

Scrapper-BS/Regen-BS is a boss killer, which I believe that scrappers should specialize in, as they are supposed to be one on one killers.

Tanker-Stone/Dark-Stone of course is all defense no offense and dark for the recharging heal that it gets plus the -tohit.

As you can see, while some, like the scrapper, would be efficient, I plan on only strengthening my strengths and ignoring my weaknesses so they continue to be a problem, which in turn makes the game more fun to have that risk of death.

So now, I ask you, the bruting community, what the brutiest brute is. I was considering SS/WP since it seems that nothing is more brutish than some strong guy who is too dumb to know he is hit. If you have any other suggestions let me know. Also, if you could give an explanation of what you think a brute's role on a team should be (obviously not a true tank, but not a scrapper, but a brute). Finally, if you can suggest what to aim for slotting purposes (just general, I don't need actual builds) in IOs that would be wonderful.

Anyway, take care, and thank you for all your help.
  5. My evil plan is to build the best team supporting defender I can. After reading alot of posts the conclusion is that Sonic would be the best (if that is wrong well I'd love to hear it). The problem is Sonic/Sonic doesnt have a lot of IO slotting opportunities that boost what I want (which is I suppose recovery). So what would you recommend for me to do? Or is there another set that surpasses it when it comes to an IO build. Thanks for the help.
  6. I give my vote to Ice/EM. It gives you three things that I find make it work very well

    1) It has different "stages". In the beginning, first 10 levels or so, you need as much damage as possible. I know its silly, but the fact of the matter is you need to be able to keep yourself going at a constant rate by killing as many enemies as possible as fast as possible, whose attacks aren't as great as the higher levels which means you can skip defense at least for solo. Ice/EM affords you that by giving you 2 attacks right out of the box, build up and aim early, and good melee attacks.

Then you proceed into your teens where the enemies start getting nasty. This is where Ice's holds start to shine and continue to shine. You will have survivability plus damage, which is what you need really.

After that, its just more balancing of survivability and damage, which Ice/EM gives both.

    2) You dont have to worry about not going into melee as much solo since there aren't as many enemies, hence why EM is so good.

    3) They are both outstanding ST.

Sorry, but if you view taking a few minutes out of your busy:

    L[INSERT LEVEL AND AT] LFT!

    as stress?

Well, let's just say that you need a break from the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

First off why would you be saying LFT if you are making a team?

And secondly I would call it stress. Sure its not being at work having two kids stress, but it is a little stressful, not much I will admit, trying to make everyone happy while trying to get people who don't AE to join your team. Some people dont want to deal with it. I know I sometimes don't. But then I start and I realize I like it
  8. I'll be a leader if necessary and btw I am a fire/fire AOE idiot blaster
  9. Ohhhh memememememe Project Firestrider
  10. Comeon guys this isnt a bash AE thread its make regular content more open to casual players. Dont turn this into a flame thread.
  11. Are you tired of the new AE song and dance? Do you want to be around a bunch of people that actually want to do regular content? Are you on Freedom? Well this is your chance!

The Original Heroes is a new Supergroup that has formed on Freedom dedicated to bringing back the regular content of this great game!

    Recruitment

Are you interested? All you need to do is leave me a message on my character Project Firestrider or @Trashman and I will set up a time to interview you.

Interview? You ask. Why interview? I really want a strong SG that focuses on the regular content, and I need to make sure that there are long lasting good people in this SG so it lasts a long time.

We do have a don't ask don't tell policy when it comes to farming. I cant really tell if you are farming or not, so as long as you dont express that you are farming, no one is the wiser.

    Leadership Structure
We start you on as initiate status, and for the first seven days you will remain that way. If after seven days you dont quit and we dont kick you, then you will be promoted to Member. After that, further promotions are entirely based on merit, not just prestige. For instance, if we see you are making teams and helping other members, then of course we will promote you. But if all you have is alot of prestige, you wont be getting past member status.

    Things to be weary of

You must remember we are a relatively selective supergroup that has just started. We won't have alot of base material. We wont have that many members. But if you prefer quality of quantity, give us a try! You won't regret it!
  12. You know, looking at the boards, I see a bunch of complaining about the state of AE farms, but most people say that "They only do AE because there aren't any regular teams out there". Which is true. And you may say to them "Then make your own team". Well some people don't want the added stress of making a team.

Well I say no more! It is time to take steps to bring back the regular content of this fantastic game. And I am going to do my part by trying to make a list of people who are constantly making regular mission teams, whether they be contacts or radio/newspaper, to fight the AE boredom!

So if you want to help and devote some of your time to making regular AE teams so Freedom can become more regular content friendly then put your name here! That way people who want to get on your teams can friend you and send ya a tell to see if they can get on a mission team.

And for those non-leader types, go ahead and post your name up here so the people who make the mission teams can remember/friend you when they are looking for people for their team.

I am not bashing AE in anyway, I just want to bring some of the regular content that people seem to want.

So I, @Trashman, will give my services to making regular mission teams, currently as Project Firestrider, a level 50 fire/fire blasting idiot.

Do your part for the regular content in this game!
  13. I would love to join these things, although I refuse to make a new toon to play it so....

  14. Hey all I have an old alienware computer (about 4 years old) that I used to play CoH on. I wanted to get it back and running in order to try and play CoH since my laptop seems to be a bit slow. CoH played fine but the load times were incredibly long. In the meantime another person loaded the computer with a bunch of other programs that were taking up space so I decided to restore to factory settings. Unfortunately, now it is stuck at the loading screen. I have reinstalled it about five times now, a couple of times in programs and this last time just in C. Unfortunately now the game just updates, and then after I go through the EULA stuff the loading screen comes up (the one before the game is about to go into the login screen) and stays there.

My specs are as follows and is completely installed :-p

    Windows XP
    Intel Pentium 4CPU 2.80GHz
    512 MB of Ram
    2 Processors
    Creative SB Audigy
Celestica Gold Edition RADEON 9600XT 128MB

    Any advice would be appreciated
  15. Hey I'm making a playlist for my fire/fire blaster, but unfortunately I am terrible with my song remembering or knowing skills. So what songs are good for a fire/fire blaster who likes rock but not screamo who doesn't care how cheap it is (AKA one that talks about setting things on fire) and who focuses on pure damage w/o mitigation
  16. One of the biggest problems I have with COV is the ATs. Its not that they are not cool, its just hard to understand their clear function in a team. In COH, blasters and scraps do damage, tanks tank, defenders buff and debuff their team, and controllers hold the enemy. But in COV it seems that every AT's function is to deal out damage in a slightly different way. So thats what I am asking about Brutes. In a large team (8 people) assuming that it is mixed with ATs to a semi optimal level (Ie: Enough supports and such) what is their role? I don't mean a brute who tanks, I mean a brute who brutes. Is it to take the Alpha, not worry about holding aggro, and dishing out as much pain as possible? Is it akin to a scrapper? And what is the best build for a bruting brute? I plan on building a brute after I finish with my blaster, so this help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey thanks you know it actually helped. I have been away for a long while (I left sometime after I9) so i don't have all the experience when it comes to Inventions.

So I redid my build with your suggestions in mind. Note I didn't put in all of them, such as flares which I view as a filler in my attack chain (which of course you could argue is utility but meh you get the idea)

Hey guys, I am a veteran newbie (to blasters at least) and I need some advice. I will bow to your expertise on blasters here on the blaster forum. I have a concept of a blaster, and that concept is pure damage. Pure AOE damage to be precise. No utility. And this is for teams mind you, so not really soloing. I don't care how stupid it is, I don't care how many times I die, I want that to happen. So I need some advice on my build. I have already narrowed it down to fire/fire (both AOE giants) so that I have no utility and all AOE and I have made by build but I have a feeling it is not the best it could be. So here it is.

I didn't take stamina as soon as possible because, well, I don't like stamina and at level 18 I have minimal end problems. And I'll be making my own teams anyway so there will probably always be some kind of end for me. Thanks alot!
  20. Hey I am Trashman, and I left the game about 727 days ago, so I have been missing out. I came back recently and found how much I missed COH. So I was searching for a group. I started on Freedom from scratch (moved over from Virtue) and already love it. I guess the number one thing I am looking for in a group is teaming. That's what I live for is teaming. I am an RPer on the side, but it is not necessary and probably won't even be considered. So any SGs out there that want a stable player that was here since beta I would like to hear it.
  21. Apparently DM is the favorite here, although i might just hack the system to get Stalker hero side :-p
  22. I'm looking for a scrapper that is designed to take on bosses, and that is pretty much it. Not necessarily AVs, but bosses on teams (I guess I should say this is my concept for a team scrapper). Any ideas on powersets? I am but a low life defender transfer :-p

After I added it, I thought that sonic would be a good secondary. I will have to play with it for a while and I'll probably add it in my next guide.
  25. Slowly walking toward the center of the field, he suddenly hear some sharp screaming from behind. He saw the hunk of rock surrounded by a bunch of mutants. Observing, but being careful not to make any sudden movements, he figeted in his metallic silver suit, feeling uncomfortable. Suddenly, the hunk of rock got some more rock and the mutants suddenly took interest in Roger.

"Gah, they always come after me..." Roger muttered, opening his panel on his arm. Just as the mutants started to reach him, he dissappeared in a flash of light.
