  1. so, going solo for most of the game (which is what i'm doing now, up to 44 yay), i would recommend brute or scrapper. both tough enough to solo and do enough damage to get thru the content. my problem soloing a tank was how long it took to kill....... anything really.

i'm running a brute, tougher then scrapper by a bit, because of my "tanker' background. scrapper would be fine if you want to front load the damage. soloing anything else has tricky spots, not that they aren't doable.... just harder is all, especially if you prefer a melee style toon (or just seem to be better suited to it). but there are new power sets, a whole new 1=20 lvl content area, any AT, you want, and alignment mish's when you get out, couple all of that with the weekly strike target and doing all the TF's you want to do should jump you up to max level pretty quick. once out of praetoria, i ran tips, TF's and the arcs i really like (striga, croatoa, maria jenkins, etc..) and i'm cruising along just fine. then once you're 50, all the incarnate fun can start.

wow, lots to play with that's new.... welcome back, hope you have fun
and once you get started, come back and tell us what you went with and how it's going
  2. sky high and mystery men.............

    and..... little ashamed here.......

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro man (hangs head in shame)
  3. my current toon, KM/Elec solved my altitis completely. the resistance works well paired with KM, plus you get a +recharge power, this toon runs thru mobs so fast i can't believe it. no end issues, massive recharge, good resists, full of win if you ask me. give it a shot, i doubt it will disappoint

Oops. Can't wait for that clinical trial.

But like I said, of all the "mad science" areas, it is the one that actually makes some sense to persue.

BAH! that's why i said a couple years of study...... these minor quirks can be worked out dammit! and if not, then we all can have little mice as pets that live forever. see? silver lining?!

The world today is very different. Of course there is still secrecy and military engineering research always has huge amounts of money but, I don't think the gap is that large as some in the tin foil hat crowd make it out to be. Tensions have lessened considerably from 1980.

true that the cold war was unique in circumstance, but i would disagree that the amount of research has lessened. the enemy is different, the tactics and the needs are different, but there will always be need for a new way to protect oneself. the cold war period kept progress details vague, but the goals were out on the table, from space flight, to nuclear armament, to stealth and advanced detection tech. now, the needs are different, the cold war was the end of the progression from trench warfare, the pinnacle of large opposing forces facing off on the battlefield. war has changed, innovation in waging that war has changed as well, the interesting part is, we aren't quite sure what's coming next. in the cold war era, we were expecting stealth, we were even expecting the concept of "star wars" though it was never fully realized. we aren't as a culture, as familiar with the current methods of waging war, and therefore don't have the generations of experience to focus our expectations. in the end, as cool as the toys from the military industrial complex were in that era, the surprise factor of the new stuff will top it..... or so i hope.
  6. net minder, check out popsci website, search for immortal mice (or something like that), someone went and figured out how to stop the preprogrammed death of mouse cells, stopping the effects of aging (and reversing it in older mice). come to think of it, article might be named ageless mice. great read, with huge implications for those of us under 40, given enough time to work out some kinks, it could mean a whole different game for our "golden years".
  7. military science is probably the single biggest producer of useful improvements throughout the 20th century. Granted we all cringe just a bit when the topic is brought up, but truth be told, technological advances are what you make of them and aren't tied to the conspiracy theory that formed around them, the internet being the most visible of these advancements. the only area where this isn't true, is medical research, where private industry leads the advancements.

the first fully working prototype of the F117 stealth fighter was flying in 1978 or 9, but wasn't first introduced in open warfare, and to the general public, until desert shield. this is around 12 years of hush hush that actually worked, not to mention all the developmental time pre-working prototype. with the exponential growth in the scientific fields throughout the 20th century and this millennium, can you imagine what they are working on right now that we won't get to see for another 12 years? i want to hold HIGH level elected office, not because i would like to lead, but because i really really really want to know all the cool stuff folks are working on

Okay for you tl;dr people, listen up --

It's not whether your incarnate powers help your character. It's whether you are made obsolete by the powers on the rest of your team. All ATs can now buff, rez, and nuke. Is that healthy for the game?

in a game where ANY team of 8 makes all content trivial, the the implementation of leagues obsoleted everyone...... with enough of any AT, the use for other AT's is negligible. but this game has never been about the holy trinity of MMO'ing, and any full team will work, therefore the AT's exist strictly for YOUR benefit, as something you want to play, not as a needed asset for someone else. so play what you like, enjoy it, and stop stressing over game mechanics in game where mechanics always came second.

  12. I was on a TF.... not sure which one, it's immaterial, but this was about 2 years into my CoX gaming career, and i was feeling quite well versed in the intricacies of combat in this game. So, as the tank, i was spearheading the charge into mobs, near the end of the TF, as mobs getter bigger and harder, we finally encountered our first team wipe, mostly die to lack of coordination, or any sense of tactics. So, after everyone rez's or hosp's, and we gather near the mob for our second go at it, I jump into my self important, master tactician rant mode, and start bellowing (as best you can while typing) about our strategy, others following said strategy, not aggroing other mobs, playing to the strength of your AT, and so on and so forth. everyone else remained quiet, and attentive (so i thought), and with a final harumph, i turned and charged into the big mob........ completely forgetting to toggle on ANY of my armors...... i think the others where quiet cuz they saw i was unarmored, and wanted to see me faceplant like the jerk i was being. ah, humility, my frequent friend, why must you sneak up on me and smack me in the back of the head?????
  13. ok, thanks for the replies, into stamina it goes, with a couple end mods.
and, it's NOT a unique you say? wonderful, i get another chance to screw it up.......
kidding, i'll pick up the physical perfection later, and will pop one in there as well.

    thanks folks
  14. ok, so i messed up and need help.
been playing for 4 years (as of yesterday) and have had terrible altitis since day one. to compound that problem (not really a problem, i love all 10,000 toons i made ) i SUCKED at making money in this game (thanks for fixing that Firespray), which should be expected when 99% of my toons stall around lvl 25.

but due to a love affair with my new toon, who i've played straight thru till 35, and some advice on how to make da moniez, i found myself in a new "realm" of the game. seriously planning out IO sets. before i never had enough money to bother. so now that i'm a freaken high roller i started grabbing some key IO's i wanted, first off, Performance shifter unique...... and promptly placed it in electric field in my armor set..... three days later i find out, i'm giving baddies more energy to continue to punch me in the face.....IO FAIL!

so the freespec will be used toot sweet, but i need some info on where i SHOULD stick this IO (no smarta$$ comments please, i know what you're thinking). my toon is a km/elec brute, was thinking of putting it in the end drain power in elec armor, but that's a target based drain power, so maybe it just gives them back some end..... can i put it in energize? it has an end component to it, not sure it will allow it. or do i put it in stamina, will it actually proc in stamina? or as a km/elec brute do i not have a power that it will work in?

someone please help a dummy out....

ummmmm, i think you are wrong about the taunt aura... both scrappers and brutes get blazing aura. and if they don't, my fire/fire scrapper has got some 'splainin to do.

so, helpful, friendly, and a good sense of humor........ of course this is the best community.
  18. ok, so like many of us 'muricans on here, i've spent years watching British shows and feel pretty familiar with alot of the slang (you guys do get extra points for creativity), BUT i am still confused about one term in particular........"and Bob's your uncle"......... seriously? wth? would some tea drinker PLEASE tell me what the **** that means?????

i look forward to our chance to play together, and all the funny language faux pas' that will crop up mid mission (mission banter being a huge piece of my enjoyment of this game).

though i do intend to use Electric-Knights "good wank" suggestion, and feign ignorance of the language when confronted

p.s. though your slang is great, imaginative, and quite funny, it does fail at being intimidating. as a native of inner city neighborhoods, slang was used to make one self seem "hard", the heavier the slang, the "harder" you were (minds out of the gutter folks, you know what i mean). i can't see trying that with British slang, don't think i could get thru a whole sentence without laughing at myself, so you guys lose the extra points i gave you for creativity.....

    [minor rant]

I am shocked and a little disturbed by how many people still have 3 powers spent on fitness pool. I thought maybe they didn't know, so I've asked a couple times and in both instances, the person responded that they just didn't bother respeccing, or obstinately refused to respec.

Come on... if you're running Apex or something and can't figure out how to use 3 entire power choices to make your character better, I'm a little disappointed. You're willing to grind away for incarnate shards, but not .. I don't know, pick up medicine pool, or fighting pool, or recall friend, or leadership. All these things would help the team, and some of them wouldn't even require spending more enh slots.

I can understand some builds not taking power X, saying they don't need it and justifying it, and that's fine, but giving up 3 whole power slots just so you can NOT have one of the fitness powers is dumb. Fortunately, the game isn't really hard enough that it REALLY matters anyway, but it bothers me on some fundamental level and I don't know why.

Obviously, before the fitness was free, these characters were viable. Every time I see them now, I consider them to have roughly the same level of familiarity with the game as someone who uses jump kick and team flight in combat.

Just... go respec now, and we will speak nothing further of it.

    [/minor rant]

gee i'm sorry some of MY toons don't measure up to YOUR standards, gosh i guess you should just stop paying my monthly fee, you whining self indulgent, obsessive ****.

off to respec all the rest of my toons so they can all pick up jump kick and team flight.
  21. MEH!!!!! your argument is null and void.....terracotta indeed, that's just ridiculous!

but i'm 100% behind everything else
  22. this server merge excites me, i can't wait to play with the Brits. Then, maybe, just maybe, i'll get one of them to tell me what the hell the phrase "Bob's your uncle" freaken means.......
  23. heh, gonna get flamed for this one, but here goes.

with the changes to their inherent, Defenders have become VERY solo friendly, and if you take the most solo friendly build to begin with, well, it's just freaken amazing. so try a rad/sonic def, the rad/ part is well documented, get the toggles, debuff the bad guys down to mewling kittens, and then scream at them until they implode....... i giggle almost non-stop while i play mine. i'm sure you've played SOMETHING with rad emission, so you should know how good that is, but take into account the def damage boost solo (+30% at lvl 20 and up), the +25% dam boost in AM, and throw in the roughly +20% dam from assault and you have +75% dam BEFORE you debuff with EF AND sonic attacks. trust me, it gets even better the higher you go. odd to think of a def as a solo toon, but my rad/sonic is almost strictly solo, and plows thru missions as fast as almost any other toon i have, and is so safe i MAY have faceplanted 3 times in his whole toon life. just my 2 cents

I understand the parallels between gods and aliens but calling him an alien just feels like it makes him....smaller somehow.

Maybe its just me and whats done is done but I'm certainly disappointed.

i get your angst over this situation, but i think you should try this out. first; define what a "god" is....... especially an ancient non-monotheistic, non-all powerful "god". second; consider the option that all "gods" are but "aliens" regardless of magic/tech, as they are not human, and didn't originate on earth. i think your biggest issue is with an arbitrary delineation you have in your head about what a "god" is and what an "alien" is. this is not an accusatory or inflammatory statement, just a request that you maybe look at this from a different perspective and hopefully, it will quell some of the anger you seem to have over the origins of this make believe character.
