Quote:Hey I'm glad I could help. And you're right you did improve on my build. Soft capped on 2 positionals and still keeping soft capped S/L is great! Couple that with the -to hit on Envenom and I think that will be a really tanky mastermind for sure. I only had hibernate because you guessed correctly I needed the extra panic button since my build wasn't capped to ranged. However it looks like I'll be fixing that soon.Hiya ToxicEel - Seeing your build description, I wondered if it would be possible to softcap your character beyond S/E types. Looks like it might be! With the protector bot bubble, you can be softcapped to AoE and ranged. Still softcapped to S/L without any help. Almost doubled the recharge and keep the endurance return just about even.
Drawback - got rid of some of your +hit point bonuses and hibernate. But....since you are softcapped you should need hibernate less
Were you interested in implementing this build, you likely could fund by selling three of the four purples currently in the assault bot (assuming you have access to a number of converters, and two alignment merits for the LotG +recharge).
Anyways, just looked at it as a bit of fun. Not saying your build was messed up and wrong in any way. Rather, thanks for sharing. It gave me some ideas for my /poison! -
Hey there. I play a Bots/Poison as a main and I'll be honest with you it's a tough set to love. I made this guy day one of CoV and I've gone back and forth over remaking him over the years. However it can be made to work, but you do have to consider that AoE is both the strong point of Bots and the weak point of /Poison. You can bump up the mob size by 1 or 2, but not much more than that. The splash debuff from Envenom and Weaken just isn't strong enough to keep you healthy.
I too went the tankermind route and I opted to take Provoke and went with Ice APP for Hoarfrost, Ice Armor, and Hibernate. The build I use has got 46.5% S/L defense (1% over I know) and with protector bot shields it's got 30% to positionals. I took Iceblast as a mule and when I feel like doing something besides Provoke. Hopefully you find this useful as a template for your own build.

My main is a /poison mastermind and I really want to enjoy the set, but honestly it comes with a lot downsides. I feel like the best power in the whole set is the AoE cone slow and that doesn't say much. Venomous gas is hard to use for ranged MM's so I imagine it's got similar difficulties for Corruptors. It should really be a targeted toggle for both AT's as having to get up in the middle of everything on a primarily ranged character is never optimal.

Quote:I did switch over to resistance after the first arc. Like I said in my last post, the Doorman is giving my villain the hero dialogue too. So obviously something is wrong with how my character is flagged, but I have no idea how that occurred. How to go undercover:
1- Start as a Loyalist.
2- Switch to Resistance.
3- Do Resistance missions, and call Marchand when directed to.
-or-
1- Start as Resistance.
2- Switch to Loyalist.
3- Do Loyalist missions, calling Calvin as directed.
You can only work undercover FOR the faction you originally picked in the tutorial (or on the character select screen, if you skipped the tutorial). You can only go undercover while a member of the faction you did NOT choose when you started.
From what I read in your posts, you were never eligible to go undercover, because you started Loyalist and stayed Loyalist.
EDIT: Selecting the mission is not necessary; if you have a mission with an "undercover objective", calling Scott or Marchand will automatically trigger that dialog before they give their standard dialog. The same goes for any other contact that you are sent to talk to when they would normally give standard dialog ("Talk to Ms Liberty" completes the mission rather than opening the Trainer dialog, talking to one of the side quest characters on Vincent Ross' arc gives the arc-related dialog before they try to hand out missions, etc). -
Quote:Yes. It states it in orange text. My character was a loyalist at the very start when I created him. Yet Marchand never responded to any calls other than trying to offer me new contacts. It clearly states in the mission dialogue something like "for characters that start as loyalist/resistance, you can contact Provost Marchand/Calvin scott to inform him of....." It goes by your first alignment choice you made when creating your character if you skipped the tutorial or chose in the tutorial.
Edited for typo
I guess the point is moot now since my character has graduated from Praetoria. One interesting thing to note though is that my character is a villain, but the Doorman at the entrance to First Ward was giving me the hero introduction. I think there's something wrong with how the game categorizes my character. -
Quote:Yep. I'm selecting the mission. I've tried going in and out of the mission too. Nothing seems to work. It's really driving me crazy trying to figure out what might be causing it.yeah, you have to accept the mission before calling it in to your "handler"
Edit: So I thought maybe the game messed up and thought my character was resistance originally. To test this I took up a normal loyalist arc and when I was prompted to contact Calvin Scott if I was working under cover I did and sadly he doesn't have anything to say either. So apparently the game doesn't think my character is a loyalist or resistance. -
Quote:I know that part. I'm specifically calling when I have a mission selected that has orange text saying those who are working under cover should call Marchand. I've done 3 mission arcs so far and he won't respond at all to me.You're misunderstanding, and the game is honestly not very clear about this. As a Loyalist, you can do arcs for Resistance contacts, although you'll need to find them for yourself. At certain critical points during the arcs, you will be told that you can call Provost Marchand and talk to him about what you're up to in order to sabotage the Resistance's plans. Conversely, Resistance members may do Loyalist arcs and call in to Calvin Scott at certain points. Not every arc gives you this opportunity, however.
My character was an original loyalist who faction swapped over to resistance. I've tried both as a loyalist and as resistance and Marchand is oblivious to missions saying I should contact him. -
Okay, now I'm going to say that something is broken. I swapped my loyalist over to the resistance via a morality mission, but Provost Marchand still has nothing for me when a mission says I should talk to him. I'm stumped!
-
Quote:Oh well that makes a lot more sense now. I have to actually faction switch over to resistance in order to be undercover. Gotcha!Just to be clear(for others that are lurking), you can only go undercover for the faction that you picked at character creation(Through the tutorial or as you enter Nova).
IIRC, you have to do a moral choice mission and change your current faction, to actually be undercover. If you are doing a Warden arc as a Loyalist(you can't do Crusader, the contacts are behind 'secret/coded' doors), you aren't really undercover, so calling Marchand is moot. -
Hello,
I'm currently running a loyalist character in Praetoria, but I'm trying to do the resistance missions under cover. I skipped the tutorial, but picked loyalist as my alignment. However my problem is when a mission says that I can call Provost Marchand to help the loyalists nothing happens. I call him and all he does is offer me contacts. I've tried visiting him personally, calling him, accepting his contacts, and nada. Am I missing something here? -
Really not a fan of the Umbra Beast. I like the abilities and the damage, but why is it a dog? A large pink/purple dog at that. Somebody mentioned earlier that we should have gotten something like the CoT demon and I really agree. The dog just doesn't seem fitting at all.
-
This is my first serious attempt at using IO's. I have been gone for a long time and don't really know a lot of the nuances of the IO system. I'm looking for help with my build to be a bit more focused. As a pain mastermind do I focus on global recharge, healing bonuses, or defense? I solo a lot at the moment if that matters, but I imagine that will change as I'm closing in on 50 and need to do group stuff. The build also has extra unspent slots as I don't know what to do with them yet.
I'm pretty stumped on what to do with Summon Demons especially since I'm torn between the needs of the Hellfire Gargoyle and the Ember Demon.
Also I would love to keep Soul Mastery in there if possible for character concept. If it's dire that I replace it with something I'm open to it.
I cannot afford purple sets, but I could probably get some hami-o's if it works in the build.

Hello,
I have played this game since beta. I was in beta for both CoH and CoV. I still have my first character ever who remains my only 50 hero. I predominately play Red side. I don't play too much these days due to RL and other games though. I've tried to stay subbed throughout the years, but I've let it go a couple times.
My main is Toxic Eel a bot/poison MM. If I'm not doing flashbacks for junk I'm usually looking to team for whatever, so feel free to invite me if you see me online.

In response, I was only looking at their generaic appearance, not creating whole new powers for them. Only changing their look to different enemy mob appearance. For the RP community, this might be a huge leap in background stories/concepts.
As one other people has said, it might be client side to see different appearances for each pet.
One your last question ToxicEel, the powers the pets have already will be the same, I was just thinking of changing general appearance as a whole. So for example, if you have a Merc Primary and you choose to have Malta pets...then just the appearance of pets would change...not the powers.

I realize what you're asking for, but the actual mechanics of the power a little more complicated than that.
The way it was explained to me is that your mastermind summon powers are linked to very specific NPC's. These NPCS have hard coded powers, abilities, and appearance. In order to change their appearance you would have to make a new summon ability for each different look you wanted. For example it would be summon minion: Malta or summon LT: Council.
In addition you would have to give all of your summons the powers of the original minions. The task gets very multiplicative very quickly. And then, as I said, enhancements become a problem because you've got them in summon group A, but say you change your costume and now use summon group B, how do those enhancements get transferred over without a respec? -
I doubt we'll see this anytime soon.
Pet powers do not summon generic minions that just happen to use bot, zombie, or merc animations/powers.
Pet powers are set up to summon very specific instances of very specific entities. Trying to change these means that the devs would have to develope an entirely new power for both the MM primaries and the powers of the minions themselves.
So let's say you have 3 different variants of mercs. That's three new powers for the primary(One for the minion, LT, and boss summon) and 3 new of sets of powers for the minions. And each minion has at least 3 powers. 3 x 3 x 3 that's 30 powers just for mercs alone!
Plus then you run into enhancement issues when you customize your minions. Your enhancements are in Mercs -> Malta, for example. How do you transfer them to Mercs - > Council powers? -

So. Not that i'm doubting this, i've seen enough people talking about this stuff that I'll take it. I'm just curious where the information came from. Is it all word of mouth? I've had a look and can't find where posi outright said we're getting a new primary.

Positron gave us dual pistols and demon summoning in his last Q&A session. No ETA though and since it's not in the I15 description, I'm guessing I16. -

As for Update 2 being for "power gamers", I can honestly say that there was absolutely NO attempt to increase the game's difficulty. The conglomeration of bugs/mistakes have created this impression (beginning with the +1 mobs everywhere).

Yeah, but us powergamers love the increased difficulty. The Hollows is a perfect example of how challenging high end game should be.
