But NCSoft wants to make everyone happy and to do the right thing! They even say so in their mission statement so it must be true!

    Save Our Stories

If your concern is that the forums will be gone November 30 and you are trying to save everything you can....

There is software that can rip a website - take a snapshot if you will to your hard drive. Been a while since I've done that, so I can't recommend one offhand..... but.......

Theres also the wayback machine - a website that archives websites.

Here is a snapshot of CoH forums way back to July 2012... http://web.archive.org/web/201107191...yofheroes.com/

and another back to February 2004.... http://web.archive.org/web/200605222...ubbthreads.php

hope this is of some use.
  4. Any chance of the Spring Event again?

    I totally missed it
  5. Seems the idea of my original post was lost. I am not, nor have I been mad at any point.... about CoX getting cancelled. I am mad that everyone has given up playing and are resigned to ********.

If you have given up on the game.... fine, just get lost.

Why ruin the fun for those of us that will continue playing until the end? Golden Girl is right. The game is not done yet... at least for us. We have 2 full months.

    Soooooo......

Now that the analysis is over Mr. Spock.... how about a task force?

So, yeah... I'm there with ya.
I read that thread and for the first time since the news hit, I collapsed. The finality of current events finally hit me and I started thinking about the end of where my toons were going to be for the rest of eternity.... and "parking" in "x zone" didn't seem like a whole lot of respect for the characters I created.

I wish I could stand all of my toons up against a named enemy and could fight for their cause.....

I liken this situation to how I react to a dying relative, or friends last days. I could sit here and cry, try to be sympathetic, try to make sense of it all..... OR make those last days count for something.

I know a lot of others out there want to go out fighting.... and what I'm proposing will be the lot of us going out fighting together! Tell the "red names" to bring arch-villains, heroes, or The Hami Itself!

They will tell stories and sing songs of our Heroism!

    Really Snow?

This is what you bring to the table?

I would have thought you would be leading a final assault on Triumph.

Guess that puts you firmly in the acceptance stage?

My point being that its easier for NCSoft to justify shutting down if no one is playing. If the servers remain full, then perhaps they have some explaining to do.
  9. I've had it up to here!!!!! (i'm pointing at something very high)

I'VE HAD ENOUGH! Ok we've been hearing a lot of crying and b*llsh*t about the end of COX!

I say we fight, to the end!

    YES! Keep up the petitions!

YES! Keep up the letter writing campaigns!

    YES! Keep spreading the word!

And on that SCHEDULED final day (November 30, 2012) I say we all get together for the most massive invasion ever! Mothership raid in RWZ. All heroes. All villains. Every server. Every body. IF we save COX - then consider that the celebratory party.... but IF/ and When the servers go down, we go down fighting! No crying, no b*tching! FIGHTING!

When the lights go out i want to be clicking my mouse buttons like my life depends on it!

Are you going to go quietly?

    If you work. Cancel.
    If you have school. Cancel.
If its past your bedtime... have a nap.

If you want to give them an excellent reason to shut down.... just don't show. Dead servers are easier to shut down than active ones.

Lets enjoy our final time together and do what we do.

HA! YES! I only play retro games on my 3DS - and it's in there with the game boy advanced games.

Funny thing, I have a 3DS and don't own one 3DS game. I just run emulators on it with the SuperCard DSTwo (mame, stella, applewin, gameboy/advanced, nes, snes, intellivision, sms, coleco, etc.... even a dos emulator).

I wonder if I can find a working 486 anywhere...
You had Wolfenstein in 3D?!?! In my day it was 2D monochrome - and we liked it!

    .... and still like it!

    Get dosbox http://www.dosbox.com/
    Or AppleWin http://applewin.berlios.de/

to get your retro game on.

Probably best that they not cover our protest of CoH shutting down. We'll stick with CNN because we want to be taken seriously.

    Confessions

I never paid for the game. That is, I signed up for the free 2 week trial in Feb 2007, and liked CoH enough to subscribe.... without ever buying the actual game. At the time I assumed everyone did this, but then was told it was impossible (hmmm?).

I think because of this I often had weird things happen with my account. One interesting thing was I could bug out the redside respec trials. I was able to pull the last mission at a low level, and run it repeatedly as a regular mission at level 50, getting full reward merits each time. In this way I was able to farm reward merits. With friends tp'ing and helping kill vines - something along the lines of 200-400 reward merits an hour.

Stupid me, I eventually reported it thinking I would get bug hunter. Within a week it was fixed..... and no bug hunter for me.

Future exploits would NOT get reported - but used to the fullest extent of their exploitness. As seen in my fully stocked bases of purple and pvp IO's.

I thought I was rewarded from my report with costumes and stuff in lieu of bug hunter.... but that may have been just another bug.... anyway turns out I got the wedding pack, and all of the other costume packs of the time free on my account.

    Where are you?

I alternate 2 weeks in the east and 2 weeks in the west.... so I added 2 markers.
  15. Thank you so much! I have been really down over the thought of losing all of my toons. Now I can have a little peace of mind knowing they will always be here with me. Like a relatives ashes in an urn or a crygenically frozen head. Silly I know but I guess I'm just sentimental like that.

I do hope the game continues on.... but if not... thank you for this.
  16. I did not post this - thanks again to the person who did. I've seen a few questions about it - so I've added the red writing to the original text to try to help you out. Good luck

The program is in Korean, follow the steps below to get it into english.
    1) Install and run the application. (tricky because its in korean - but I'm confident you can figure it out - exit the program before proceding)
    2) Run regedit (or regedit32 for Windows 2000, in the system32 directory). (In windows 7 - click on START and type REGEDIT, in the open box at the bottom - next to the SHUTDOWN button)
    3) Locate the KCOH (or similar, running from memory here) directory under Software/Cryptic (with the registry open - click EDIT, then FIND, KRCOH - there may be a couple of instances of that word in the registry - keep searching until you find one with the word LOCALE in the box on the right)
    4) Change the Locale value to 0 (right click on locale and modify it from 3 to 0)
    5) Now modify the security permission for the KCOH directory and remove or deny all permissions except "Read" (again - its KRCOH - right click on it and change the permissions - make sure it does not have full access or write access - this is an important step - failure to do so will allow the program to revert back to korean)
Now run the app and it should run in English
  17. At last count......

115 across all servers on my main account - PL'd about 20 of them.

60 on 32 alt accounts. PL'd most of them.

    I will miss them all
  18. Someone posted this offline costume creator earlier (TY TY!). I just got around to installing it and its awesome.

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/62u5cg7ixq29qe0/2h-gR8vv8l/CoHCC.zip

Theres a readme file explaining how to change it from korean to english - if you change "kcoh" to "krcoh" in your regedit search - you should have no problem.

  20. A "skilled player" is someone with experience and knowledge of the game. How "good" those skills are, seem to be quite subjective as seen in the varied responses in this thread.

A "good player" is also subjective. I would say in a multiplayer game, a "good player" is one who can communicate and work effectively in a team environment.

Being skilled, does not mean you are good. You may know the best way to take down an AV, but if you get mad at others and grief and quit teams, instead of communicating such ways to others, you aren't very useful yourself. You're just a skilled jerk.
  21. Thanks guys. I have petitioned 3 times and mentioned that perhaps I was given a European code. Nothing yet, so I'm giving up on it.
  22. So I got a Dark Matter emote code .... yay!

    But it won't work.... boo!

Am I doing something wrong? Completely logged out of the game. Logged in to NCSoft master account and tried to apply it..... got the following error message......

"You can't use the supplied serial code.

The supplied serial code is valid, but it can not be used to create a new account and it can not be applied to any accounts you already have."

I am sure most of you do not care but I had to say my piece.
A lot of people have voiced similar opinions and I have to whole-heartedly disagree. Lets put this into perspective.......

If you opt to NOT PAY for CoX.... you lose access to incarnates and invention origin enhancements. When I started playing this game in Feb 2007.... we did not have incarnates or invention origin enhancements and I still enjoyed the game enough to pay for it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If I started today as a new player, I would not pay for CoX. Everything I want to do can be done for free. I keep paying only for the luxury of maintaining my many toons.

Now YOU have the luxury of simply opening multiple free accounts to have as many toons as you like. YOU do not need money to play this game, and YOU DO NOT NEED MONEY TO HAVE FUN. I would even go so far as to argue that the people with money - buying XP boosters, and paying to unlock their capes and other such nonsense - are MISSING OUT on all the fun this game has to offer.

    Play for free. Have fun.
