  1. I have a back story related bug. It's pretty minor, but as BAB has implied Hero1 might be peeking in here...

A while back I asked about the actual time line of the invasion as it pertained to the end of Beta event. WHat I got from many sources was that the the Beta game (April 2004) was actually taking place in April of 2002. The end of beta event that wiped out the hero population in April 2004 in our world was really April 2002 in game. Then 2 (in-game) years passed before the game went live. If all of that is right, then there are two typo bugs.

#1. There is a splash screen help/tip/trivia that says the actual invasion was was in 2004.
#2. There is a history plaque in Crey's folley that said the invasion happened in 2000.
  2. To be fair I was the first to post about to day in this thread, and that was only 6 hours ago on a Sunday morning. It's only 8AM for them, they probably aren't even up yet.
  3. I just logged in (23-jun-08 @ 2:20 PDT) and found that every extra slot on both accounts that was available last night is now gone. I logged out and back in but there was no change.

Edit: Just logged back in and noticed that while I still don't have the extra slots I should, I also don't have the icon to open the store to buy more. Again, this is on two different accounts.
  4. I really thought I had another week.

New powersets are listed here, with most it being a copy paste job from the other sets already there. Any corrections on any of them are welcome via PM (so I don't lose them).

The New UI tools have been added here. This is page 7 of 7 in this section, but the first 6 are largely unchanged.

New chat Channels are listed here and continue on the next page. We also now have a total of 20 tabs to play with, instead of 10.

Note: biggest bug that the attribute monitor has apparently uncovered so far that I'm aware of.

Tohit isn't capped. Defense obeys the defense cap, but tohit is totally uncapped. Keep popping insights or using other tohit buffs, and tohit will just keep on going up. That's uh, yet another reason why defense is not the best defense in PvP, and why Geas seems to cut right through defenses it shouldn't be able to.

Thanks to Peritus for bringing this one to my attention, and thanks to pohsyb for locating the, uh, glitch. I'm presuming this will be fixed in some future patch.

Note: apparently, unless you were playing in beta, tohit has never been capped. Ever.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To be clear on this, does this mean that defense will cap at some value, but ToHit can be buffed endlessly?
And does this mean that ToHit is still affected by the Bounding to hold it to under 0.95?
What value does it take to hit the Defense cap?
  6. I asked Mids about this back in January. He has not yet added in the new activation times for Archery/TA, or the new blaster activations. They are coming, but there is no due date. The real number patch set him back even more.

He knows about it, and he's working on it.

    Guide to Guides

The off site new player guide in my sig has been updated for Issue 10.
  8. Ahh okay. So if I read this correctly, The game calendar did begin in 2004, but the End of Beta Event was sort of like Highlander 2. It never really happened.

    Thanks for the input.

    To the time line!
  9. Thanks. That sort of messes me up. So the actual release of the game took place in 2002 on the in game calendar, and it's now really 2005? Or were there two years of clean up between when Hero 1 vanished and the Beta event? WHere did the two years go? I sort of need them : )

Or was the End of Beta Event in 2002, then we just skipped ahead to 2004 for the release of the game?
  10. Sorry if this is the wrong place, but if any sub-group of the community will know, it will be here.

I'm in the process of working out my time line. I started the game in May of 2004, so I missed the end of Beta event. That's sort of what the questions are about. The official time line ends in 2002, but I thought there was a huge invasion event in April of 2004.

What year (month and year) did Hero 1 vanish?
When was the big invasion event (in game)?
Can anyone link me to a time line for the first invasion itself? Is there even a time line of it?

    Thanks

    Guide to Guides

My off-forum guide has been updated for issue 9, as well as having some fixes and stuff o make it a little better looking (I think), and easier to understand the first page.

    Got it updated, Tog.

May I offer a suggestion for your site? When I first visited it, I didn't realize I had to click on a book twice in order to get into the meat of the site. After clicking on a book once for a description of its contents, you may want to add to the initial text something like, "click on this book again in order to..."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks. The text in the white board when page first loads does mention it, but I didn't know how to fix it at the time. The new version will change the text on a mouseover then go to the page when clicked. I build it at work in my down time, and this winter has had very little of it, so it's taking me a lot longer than I'd hoped.

    Guide to Guides

    Three quick things.

    1. The guide listed for basic game play by Map_severed should be Changed to Tog, or _Tog_.
    2. It's actually pretty much current through I7 now, but I'm having some trouble with the newest version. Hopefully, it will be current through I8, with better navigation, and a far less annoying "bookshelf" page, just in time for the release of I9, which will make it far out of date again because inventions is really gonna mess things up for it
    3. Cool avatar, Mantid.
  14. On the subject of post deletion, I'm strongly against it. The other forum I belong to has a much more strict set of guidelines and threads are often locked because of it. Many people get banned as well, but the only posts that are EVER deleted, are the ones that are 100% advertising spam, or if the post is something like a racially motivated tirade right from the start. If a topic (such as this one) turns into an all out brawl that results in several people getting banned, the offensive posts may be edited, the people banned, and the thread locked, but all posts will remain there for all to see. This is the way it should be as far as I'm concerned. I feel that way for two reasons.

    1. It eliminates the selective judgment of the person who finds it.
    2. It keeps a public record of why threads were closed and why people were banned. It will also force the mods to be more honest in dealing with such things if everything they do is open to public view. If a person is given a modsmack for saying something, then complains about it, but the thread is still there for all to see, it can be judged by the other mods, and members. If it turns out that the post was smacked without cause, there is a record of it. Doing it all in private to avoid complaints sort of implies a lack of confidence in the process. If the person was modded fairly, they can complain, but the majority of the community will probably side with the mods in that case.

I completely agree that we are in NCSoft's house and have to live by their rules, but those rules need to be public. They need to be publicly enforced. And the enforcement needs to be be open to public scrutiny.
  15. I am an active member of another forum that deals with a lot of subjects that can get very heated very quickly. The mods there are all active members, as are the two admins. There is seldom a week that goes by with out someone getting banned for behavior issues. In all cases, the bannings are announced publicly with the reason for them, and few are ever overturned. These bans are for life. If it can be determined that a banned member has started a new account, that one is banned for sneaking back in, even if no other infraction was committed. I don't post here much, mainly because of the open, and often unchecked, hostility I see in many of the posts. Compared to the other board I mentioned, this one is is in a state of anarchy.

That does not mean there are not good people here. There are. It just means that the mods have been far more lax in the past when it came to warnings and bannings than on other boards, and now that someone is here to pull back the reigns, some people are reacting as if they are being oppressed. I really don't see that as being the case.
  16. I just jumped around this thread a bit but I didn't see either of the things I've noticed.
One isn't a bug, I'm sure. It simply sucks, but it may have led to one of my bugs. When I Logged in my first toon, I claimed everything except the Sand/Ax (still undecided there) It took 20+ minutes for the game to stop telling me I had cliamed an item. Even when I exited the toon back to the log in screen, I still got 5+ minutes of "Veteran Reward Claimed" and "Base Item Awarded" Doe it really HAVE to display that pop up thing for every one of the items in a bundle of 14? Now, maybe it's not quite this bad because....

I popped into my base to check out the new items and found that I had 5 to 20 of each one except the signature Hero/Villain Items. 20 Nem Rifles, 20 cases of CoT weapons, It looked to be about 20, I got kicked out of the base before I finished counting the first set, but I was close and on 17. Now, the amount of time I spent claiming stuff would make sense if it flashed the message for each of the 20 copies of th 14 things. I don't know if my logging out while it was still flashing them up was a factor or not.

Bug 2 (also happened in I7): The pet control buttons have been removed from every powertray on every MM toon I have. They weren't even replaced with the default ones. It's like they were just erased.
  17. A while back I started a thread about my inability to taunt clocks on two different tanks and I was wonderng if (since _Castle_ seems to be here for a bit) this was a bug or working as intended.

My level 16/17 Earth Tank running Mudpot has had even level Cogs and Oscilators move through the pots, and ignore the Taunt and the hit from Scorch to continue on to the back row on several occaisions.

I ran the Positron TF with som SG mates on my 46 Invuln/Axer and again the clocks ignored Taunt and all of my attacks. Other villain groups responded they way I think they should have to both toons. They turned and hit me. I'd almost settle for a clock LOOKING in my direction after I Taunt them.
  18. Has take care of a baby dove blown out of it's nest and mauled by cats been said yet? It's what I've been doing the last three hours, waiting for the woman at teh rescue center to call back.
  19. Played to level 6 and I have two complaints.

    1. The whistle that summons them is too high pitched. It's bit grating, and could cuse bats to fly into buildings.

    2. Skulls can shoot properly. Hellions can shoot properly. The Punk henchmen, can shoot properly, at least so far. Why... WHY... does my mastermind tip the gun over on it's side to shoot left handed??? I realize it's an artwork change and thus will probably never make it into the game, but why was it done wrong to start with???

Aside from these I like the set.
  20. I have a Sonic/Sonic Def (12), a Kinetic/Sonic Def(10), a Sonic/Kinetic Corr(26) and 2 sonic Blasters around 5. I've seriously thought of slottig brawl for damage since that is the most reliable attack any of them have, Even with the attacks 2 slotted with Acc DOs. Elec is a little better, but neither is as reliable as Dark Blast for accuracy overall. At least for me.

I think maybe Sonic doesn't suffer from the same acc bug that Dark Melee doesn't suffer from. You know where it takes 2 SO acc to hit a +2 minion reliably.
  21. More of a bug really, but this thread has talked about it. I have tried with two diffeent Heroes to buy the temp powers from Chilly, the bartender. I don't loose any influence, nor do I get a temp power. Well one time he did take my 1000 inf, but I have never gotten a power from him. Others on my team can. My enhancement trays have an opening, mu insp trays have an opening, and yet I have no access to them. What's the trick?
  22. There are also those of us who have a main SG and several spinoff SG's to handle the overflow membership. My SG has the main group, the group for the 50's, a reserve group, an overflow group, and at least 3 specialty theme groups, as well as two more spinoffs of the same group on a different server. We have about 70 active members, many of which play several diferent toons in the course of a week. If only time actually playing in the main SG is going to count, we could esily end up with a run down old shack surrounded by a half dozen mansions.
  23. Great guide. I Love when I see a really good one and it matches my toon Seriously, great write up

I have a level 27 Ice/fire blaster and a level 11 Ice/Ice Blastroller concept build and so far, everything in the main guide is spot on with my experiences. The recharge rate is really good on the main blasts but the animation time is ligthning fast. So fast in fact that it's possible to defeat a mob with bitter ice blast and have both of the lesser ice blasts in the air before you can no longer target him. I will usually open with frost breath, (1 acc, 1 cone, 4 dam) then toggle through the foes for each attack finishing with a ring of fire as I walk away 4 seconds later to let the last mob's health tick helplessly away. Ice is a cold set. At level 27 I have taken Ring of fire and Build Up from the secondary. I will probably take Consume because endurance never hurts, and by then I should be able to have two mobs frozen solid long enough to get it off in safety. I'm debating on Burn. It was an absolute no way at first, but then I saw a tactic using burn and Ice Storm that made me reconsider. I already use ice stom a lot. So much so it is activated by pressing ALT and right clicking where I want it. I've practiced a lot to cast it just far enough behind me to keep the mobs out of melee, but not cheese off the tanks and scrappers.

I'm assuming that Burn is the AoE you mentioned. The blaster issue with it is there is no taunt to keep the mobs in the burn patch, unless you also use Ice Storm slotted for slow (How much would caltops rock here?)

There will be a minor respec in the future to move some stuff around, mainly to get superhover so this is my projected final build. Yup, I'm planning on burn, but not until I get 1 immob and three holds to keep stuff in place. Total I have 4 fire powers, and 8 pool powers, not counting Epics. That is the beauty of the Fire secondary. Lots of room for Pools.

This build centers around lightnig fast attacks and holds to keep mobs at bay. I never want to be in range of a melee attack with this toon. As ws mentioned in the main guide. Hasten is really optional here, but getting it before stamina will really kill your end. I have it now, but it's not perma. I only break it out if there is an elite boss or something equally nasty in the way. Another thing not really mentioned (unless I missed it, if so I apologize) is that the first two ice blasts are great for pulling. It's really rare for me to get more than one mob at a time if I have a corner to duck behind.

    Guide to Guides

I'd like to add mine to this list. Basic to intermediate guide to gameplay and general information in the form of a website.

    The Other Guide
  25. Blaster level X, tank level X-4, controller X-2, hunting street mobs. Tank won't accept sidekick cause he likes the big xp. Blaster will only attack mobs that are orange and up to him. you spend 3 minutes running past stuff that is green to yellow to find the oranges, then sit for 5 min after to the fight to recover listening to the balster say great XP huh?

    You're in a Hydra group.

You're in the hollows and it's not a mission
