  1. Personally, I think a giant Talos style statue in the harbor in IP would be cool, set it far back on an island of it's own, maybe centered so you can see it from the ship where Ms Liberty is now.

I'd rather see the M1 statue replaced with Sister Psyche, giving a female hero a statue of that size would say alot about her stature in the hero community.

Last, wouldn't it be neat if there was a memorial wall in the little park area directly in front of Ms Lib in Atlas. the wall could have a history plaque with a blurb and location for each statue in game, if no statue present, it could have a blurb about a fallen hero. As the game kills off more heroes, as I'm sure it will, they could keep adding to the memorial wall.

    Tattoo

I wonder if they could get some basic tattoos in as chest/leg patterns. Just have them only going on arms in cuts that mimic where sleeves/hems would be. For guys maybe have a full chest option that you could put on any torso. It may look weird on something like tights, but it would be a solid workaround to making torsos specifically with tatts.
  3. I like this idea. It's almost like a battle focus. If they were to do something like this, I'm sure we'd lose the free to fire when mezzed tier one and two powers we have now. I'm fine with that, though.
  4. I have not caught any of EMH's second season, but I loved the first and was disappointed to hear of the cancellation. Not surprised though, Disney XD is not promoted enough and not available on basic cable tiers, it seems that channel has trouble keeping these properties in spotlight. My cable provider doesn't offer Disney XD on our tier, I can catch the repeats On Demand though.

On the plus side it has some talent working on Assemble at least. Link

Now Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. has me worried. That just looks dumb, please let me be proven wrong, as EMH has handled the Hulk better than most media has.
  5. I've only had time to play through red side, but kudos! For once my villain feels like a villain and not a henchman/thug. Also, I want that Kirby dot-esque aura that Castillo and Clamor had.

Of course in true villain alliance fashion, I'm sure my "partner" is planning to kick sand in my eyes and steal my "toy" from the sandbox.

I agree that there was way too many. I think Grant Morrison did a pretty good job making that number smaller though. I think M-Day was a bit overboard though.
  7. I actually like the scope of Synapse, but it needs whittling down. maybe 5-6 missions. The problem with any of the old TF's is time. They just take so long and by the 4th or 5th defeat all it's like the mid point of a game of Monopoly, no one is enjoying it. It's no longer a game but a chore.

On the other hand Giant Robot Fight. The first time I saw Babbage was a Synape TF begging for help with him, it seemed half their team had bailed too. Seeing 10-12 heroes pounding on a giant robot sealed me into this game until servers shut down. Of course that also revealed another flaw, the Babbage fight almost requires the full 8 team. I had an SG mate once sending me messages that half his team bailed and they were really close to the Babbage fight. I rallied some back up from Pinnbadges and a couple incarnates and my long retired 50 Rad/AR corrupter helped them put the big bot down which kind of boosted their morale to finish the TF. But the fact they would have been screwed w/o that help kind of shows a big flaw in the TF.

So make it more focused, relocate the Babbage fight to an indoor map, something custom for the TF, so that Big B can scale properly for a team like Jurrasik does. Then make Citadel and the rest of the grandfather TF's interesting! Especially the Shard ones, such a wasted zone.
  8. That was great! Love some John C Reilly and a smattering of video game references. Jane Lynch seemed to be the star of some kind Metroid Prime/Halo game, which is perfect her. Definitely gonna try to catch this one in theaters.
  9. I love the idea of being in random chapters of a book. I disliked the lack of variety in enemies. I've only run maybe a dozen or so missions, but they're all the Praetorian Clocks. I loved the idea though, and random cut scenes you get occasionally.
  10. The naming process for me can take hours, especially if what I had in mind is taken. Luckily we have plenty of web resources for me to try and work around this without feeling like I'm losing out on concept. Wikipedia, Thesaurus.com and Dictionary.com are my best friends in toon creation.

Great example, on Triumph back in the issue 4 days I had a grav/kin controller named Dying Breath. He was a 3rd generation Japanese scientist who worked for Crey and eventually gained powers via a serum he developed. He realized Crey intended to abuse the serum and intended to destroy it. Crey hired Freaks to execute his family on live TV and he vowed to avenge them with his Dying Breath and used his own serum, gaining powers. He was a very Sunfire inspired hero costume wise. Well when I went to reroll him on Pinnacle, my home server these days, the name was taken. I spent days trying to come up with something similar but the same. After a few searches on Wikipedia I came across Onryo. A Japanese spirit of vengeance. Perfect! I rerolled as fire/thermal troller and feel that the character actually grew from me having to think outside the box, even though I didn't get the name he'd had for around 2-3 years. Instead of just unlocking powers, the serum now granted powers based on the subject's emotional makeup at the time of injection. His anger and rage transformed him
    into an inferno of revenge.

The addition of the check name box has helped me alot. One thing I wish we had the tech for is a global cross check on names. If it's taken the system would check to see if that name's account has been active within let's say a year. If not active, the name "free's" up. If we already have something like that in place I'm unaware of it.
  11. At this point it's going to be really hard to see a Justice League movie and NOT compare it to the Avengers. Embracing the Injustice League is a neat idea to really separate them, but I would worry about ensemble casting and just how deep you could really go with the characters. In the end you may end up with another vapid Batman & Robin or X-Men: the Last Stand movie. 2 hours of trying to cram as many "cool" moments as possible which takes away from any kind of character development.

I think the Starro invasion could be a neat idea though. Let's say instead of having the face hugging Starro spores (are they spores?) you have tiny Starro implants that start raining down on people. This causes mass riots in places like Gotham, Central City, Keystone City etc. You introduce each city's respective protectors tackling the bizarre behavior in their own ways. Except Batman, he's seen his city in the throes of madness, instead of worrying about the people he's worrying about the problem. Once all the rioting and such ends politicians and world leaders began behaving bizarrely as they try to prepare the Earth for Starro's impending arrival. Batman discovers the alien spores and realizes first he may be out of his league a bit, he goes to Green Lantern for more info, him being a space cop and this planet's protector from this kind of thing. You know, a kind of moment where all the heroes start to gather to figure out this global threat. How to fit Wonder Woman or Martian Manhunter, I have no idea.

You could use the opening invasion parts to establish the heroes, their methods and powers without bothering with all the origin stuff. You have an alien subversion plot that differs from the Avengers all out alien war and invasion, and you have a threat big enough to call for these heroes, especially once Starro itself touches down. Maybe throw in a few mind controlled villains from a few of the character's canons as welter weight bouts and eye candy.

Just spitballing, I'd love to see WB get serious about this and not come off as just cashing in.

A large part of what makes the X-Men racism angle work is suspension of disbelief and an understanding of the between the panels moments. You have scientists, preachers, and politicians talking up mutants as usurping humanity's place in the world. Some embrace it (like any racial/sexual/religious argument) other vehemently and violently oppose it (just like any racial/sexual/religious argument).
Not all mutants are hated, some find widespread acceptance (i.e. Firestar, Beast, Storm) but not all mutants are superheroes. The ones that are in tights are the spokespeople for mutants, they are not the ones humanity necessarily fears. It's the ones that hide their gifts, or the ones like the Morlocks who stay in the sewers and have bizarre inhuman appearances that humanity really fear. The idea of a god next door, or a monster under the bed. If the X-Men were the only mutants in the world, then the whole racism thing wouldn't work. IMO that's why the current extinction angle is wearing thin for me. It seems all the mutants left are super heroes now, and it takes away from the analogy that mutants represent the minority in whatever the political/social climate of the world was at the time.
  13. Is it just me, or does Apocalypse look like Four Arms from Ben 10?
  14. I like the use of the Celestials, especially since some stories have them doing exactly what he described in his reboot pitch. Using them to resurrect extinct races by manipulating human DNA? No. It's already been established in old Kirby era Eternals that the Celestials are the reason for mutants, but for unknown reasons. I think the mystery helps the mutant mythos in Marvel. They are not naturally evolved as the artists clearly thinks, they already have a sci-fi bend that works without the idea of resurrecting alien races. I actually think the whole Earth-X storyline, with the Earth having a Celestial embryo inside it and superhumans evolving as natural white blood cells to protect it, is a perfect fit for Diaz's reboot.

The actual characters and concepts, meh. He turned Colossus into a meathead who wants to be Superman, Shadow-Cat into a Velma/Catwoman hybrid (which kinda works in an animated setting) and the rest into emo hipsters. I strongly dislike his take on Rogue, Mystique, Wolverine, Apocalypse, Archangel, and Juggernaut.

I do like his ideas on Cyclops and Havok's powers. That's a a really neat idea, but I think he could have just as easily made someone new or used Xorn.

All in all an interesting idea, but not really true to the X-Men franchise in any form except maybe as a 1602/Earth-X style alternate reality. He clearly put a lot of thought into how it would all play out, but it just sounds like something new with a coat of X's slapped on.
  15. Only a few alts or I'd be here all day:

    Blue
Throw-Down Kid- Tsoo, Rikti and any street gang in King's Row
Nemean Sol- Trolls, Outcasts, generally those he feels were responsible for the Hollowing
Tempest Tamer- any rival of the Tsoo, so mostly Warriors. He's also taken an interest in trying to save Croatoa.
    Eagle Eyes- Arachnos, Crey
Verasta- CoT, Banished Pantheon, she's ex CoT and makes an effort to hunt those who would abuse magic

    Red
Sylver Bayne- He's an Arbiter so he fights anything Recluse tells him to. On his own he likes to hunt signature heroes, Longbow, and his own Arachnos troops to weed out the weak.
First Born Son- CoT, Banished Pantheon for work. Scrapyarders and RIP's for play.
Anthem Vargas- Any street gang group so Hellions, Outcasts, Skulls, Trolls, Warriors. He also makes time to steal as much weapons and tech from Crey as possible.
Access Denied- Signature heroes as assignments. Beyond that he's a data thief so any tech group, Arachnos, Crey, Malta Group, Longbow, really anyone that may have information that he can sell to those interested.

That's a few, but almost all of my toons have some nemesis organisation in mind.
  16. I share playtime with my wife (who stole my original account after getting hooked on CoH) and my work/parenting schedule is all over the place, so I mostly solo.

When I solo, I try to follow arcs, maintain theme, but not really RP, since I'm alone. Magic characters pursue Hellions, CoT, etc. Science go after Crey and the like, and so on. I have a few that are supposed to be "too young" to go after real crime, so they are used to run AE arcs for training, but not farms.

If I'm on primetime, I'll play support toons or whatever a team needs, I try to catch TF's, and had run more than few trials back when they were shiny and new.
  17. I've always read and liked Marvel books. It may be the more realistic approach to story telling as opposed to the fantastic approach DC takes. Some DC books I've really enjoyed as well, but most of those were in the Vertigo line, which blew away Marvel in terms of quality. I also think DC handles the cosmic/sci-fi side of story telling better.

But for the tights and tussles books I'd have to say I enjoy Marvel a lot more.
  18. I'm the same. I started collecting in the 90's and stopped around 2000. When I started having the expendable income for COH it got me back into my old favs, but instead of picking up the individuals, I'd just get a few TPB's at a time. It also got my wife into stuff like Y: The Last Man, Astro City, Squee and others. I did try to collect certain issue, though, and still have a few dozen from my little forray into individuals. As other said though, I prefer to have a whole arc in front of me, no ads.
Also it seemed most of the chain book stores always had some sort of deal like Buy 2 get 1 free, or 50% select TPB's.

Use or lose. Didn't use? You lose.

You're right in a way. Fox owns film rights to Fantastic Four, X-Men and Daredevil. The wording of the contract implies they have license to use the main characters/places/terms and any characters/places/terms the frequently appear in the books. Theoretically, Disney could just put any character they want that hasn't appeared in an X-Men movie into one their own, but if they decided to say throw a Dazzler movie out into the world, they may have every right. Or since Dazzler is an X-Lady and a mutant, they could open themselves to legal recourse. I have no idea, I don't know what the exact wording of the original license deals were.

I think the water is especially murky for characters like Quicksilver or Scarlet Witch. They're both mutants and children of Magneto, who's been in 4 out 5 X-flicks, but they're both thought of as Avengers, not X-Men. Maybe not Quicksilver, he's bounced all over the Marvelverse. Honestly I'd love to see the deals with the other studios expire and have ALL film rights revert Marvel, but I don't think Sony or Fox will allow that. Even if they're not doing anything with the characters they have licensed.

Came across this article, it has a decent breakdown of who owns what.

BrandX is right, Fox would bugger those up, though I think an X-23 flick could hold it's own. Domino would be interesting as well, but she is really tied to Cable and has always been more of a 3rd tier character in comics.

I went through a list of just female Marvel characters yesterday, and it was kind of sparse for well known women that could draw box office solo, and alot of the ones I thought could were in the X-books. Storm, X-23, Dazzler (yes I think she could hold a movie, nothing serious though), Psylocke, Rogue, Emma Frost. I'm sure I saw a few others, need more coffee to think.

Maybe not Psylocke, her story would take a trilogy of movies, and still wouldn't make sense.
  23. Vahzilok Plague

    The Hit List

All of Striga Isle and Croatoa (though I am running my Kin/Fire Scrapper through Croatoa for nostalgia's sake)

I don't know if it's just the way the movies treated her, or if it it's Scarlett Johannsen, but I don't think she'd carry a very interesting movie without Hawkeye or Iron Man. Though a Black Widow & Hawkeye movie sounds like it would be awesome. Maybe something a little more Mission Impossible but with a super hero twist, like facing down Baron Zemo or AIM and MODOK.

I could be wrong though, she didn't have alot of face time in either movie solo, and she was alot more interesting in the Avengers. Maybe I just wish she had an accent.
