I posted in the other thread but ~80 bill liquid would put me at a B.

Wait, why am I cursed? Or am I the fire scrapper in this? Grey Pilgrim is a Fire/Fire Tanker...
And if it is that way, why is Chad cursed? There should be no cursing on birthdays! /em Dr. Strangelove "Gentlemen! There is no fighting in the war room!"
Fire/Fire Scranker.
Chad is cursed... well because, for the longest time every MSTF we tried to run for him failed. No joke like over 100, ok maybe it was less but it felt like 100!
Always something weird or silly death too. CURSED I TELL YOU.... CURSED. -

League of Debt, on Infinity. One of a couple of very good channels I know of.
Heh. I never really thought about it, but I guess we're pretty well set up in LoD.... Bob, the guy who runs the League of Extraordinarily Indebted Heroes, routinely gives away purples in-channel.
Bob's a super guy. -
Happy Birthday to Victory's cursed son, and favorite fire scrapper.

One more thing-
Might want to pick up a travel power before lvl 50 if you want to do any kind of exempting. -
Quote:As Intrinsic said, my 500B was total net worth. I've got I think 100B Inf stored in bids that are not meant to ever fill, 50B in active bids, 10-20B in sold items, and the rest in slotted or stored IOs. If you still use me as the basis for #1, the total Inf in the game comes out to around 33 trillion.
Ah, I thought you had that liquid. Which honestly made me think of a whole mess of bank characters on multiple servers holding max bids to store inf.
If we are calculating inf we really shouldn't look at stored IOs then, the reason I say this I've been in some people's bases who have max storage filled with IOs created the way that uniquedragon was speaking of.
I think if we look at fulmens, topdoc, and smurfy (wasn't he on not too long ago again) we can assume they are perhaps in the top 5 inf holders in the game and try to calculate from there using only liquid assets.
But in any case....
-
Theres this guy who had a blacklist of players.... since I'm on that list, I would say anyone else on that list I would love to invite to team with me.
But honestly, I pretty much invite anyone to most tfs/sfs/trials I run, when its for fun. If its for speed or a contest, I usually look for corrs/defenders.
Fun players who arent min/maxed are always welcome over cranky good builders with elitest attitudes (I mean there can only be room for one of those on the team, and I'm already on it). -
Just based on what happened during the duel ladder we had on victory:
Out of the top 10 (and really I would say only the 5 people were really trying)
First place was a cold/dark-def
Second place was a fire/therm-corr
Third place was a cold/dark -def
Fourth was my km/elec
fifth was a rad/psi def (I think)
Lore was banned, everything else was legal.
I would say that in most duels range with debuffs is going to beat a melee character (or it will end up a tie, if the melee runs around like a ....well .... a ...tree frog with its head cut off)
However, if the op is really just trying to get his/her toes wet with pvp, I think melee isn't necessarily as bad of a choice as barrier is saying especially if its for zone play.
Most of the time (unless the person doesn't understand when to phase or run) playing a melee character will allow that person to attack and retreat as needed without dying which for some reason seems to be the 'goal' for some zone pvpers. I mean I've seen guys run to the drones just so "you didn't kill me".
As far as dishing out dps (what I think barrier is saying) range should always have the upper hand and for the most part should be able to stay at range to reduce the incoming melee attacks, but most zone pvpers worth their salt will have some type of immob power or follow around someone who does and jump on a character when they are mezzed, they may only get off one attack, but still sometimes thats all they want. -
If it wasn't bad enough that Jimmy wore that ugly jacket, everytime he made a shot he would start singing Michael Jackson's Beat It.
If I am a winner, I permit NC Interactive, Inc. and NCsoft Europe Limited to use my name, likeness, photograph, hometown, and any comments that I may make about myself or this contest that I provide for advertising and promotional activities. I also certify that I am at least 13 years of age and am eligible to participate in this contest. -
Do you really want all those attacks?
(If you were able to squeeze in confront, and 2 slot it you could pick up some +max end)
I would maybe consider switching out of musculature to agility for more def and +end. -

Well let's break down badges:
Explore-any at any powerset should be fine.
History- same.
Crafting-same.
AE-same.
WW\BM-anything.
PvP-For the most part anything, keep in mind you will need help to get rv heroes\avs and the arena ones.
Accolades- these you get for collecting other badges so its not really its own topic.
That pretty much leaves achievement and accomplistopic:
You will need to be able kill things faster is better since a lot of it will be grey hunts.
You will need a some way of healing (someone correct me but I believe longbow warden2 heal farms no longer work?). You can use destiny rebirth but it takes a while.
You will need to be able to damage farm.
Having the ability to heal (pain dom, thermal, empathy, dark, rad) will help with not just heal badges but also damage farming (except dark) since you can go into rest and rock your heal aura to take a little more damage.
So with those powers in mind you could go def, corr,mm,troller.
MM would be great for killing as well as damage farming and healing.
trollers -damage can be light might make kill badges last longer than necessary.
corrs- good choice
def-as good as corrs
So your left with playing a def, corr or mm.
Just my 2 cents....I badge on an emp\elec and it can be painful at times soloing missions or doing hunts but im sitting at 1294 badges. -
Quote:Are you looking at zone pvp, arena duels, or fiteklub (no insp, no travel, whatever else 'rules' there are).I know, melee in pvp, Lol!
I cant stand ranged toons though.
Excluding KM, what would be a good non stalker melee toon for a beginner to try?
For fiteklub merc has a nice ss/shield that he runs.
Dueling spines/regen can do pretty well with impale, barbswipe. You will be lacking the ability to put a huge hp dent on a target so you will have whittle opponents down. Therms, colds and poisons will probably eat you for breakfast though.
Zone you can do "ok" on ss characters. I'd avoid elec melee, dark melee and dual blades. I don't know how stj and tw would do. -

Panacea (Level 50) Chance for Hit points/End - 1.9 Billion 6 of these -
Quote:Yeh, I tried explaining this to some idiots in RV the other night and I have come to the conclusion that you cannot reason with these deluded people who actually believe the changes made in i13 were the right decision. They tried to deny that COH lost god knows how many subscriptions after i13 in such a short time.
These are the sort of people who still complain about psy blasters being OP but will happily stand there while a blaster uses BU and Aim and unloads attack chains at them and they wonder why they die to them so easily...
The people who complain are the ones who cannot use their brain to come up with a way to succeed, that's why the people who these trash i13 changes were made for never even stuck around.
P.s. Fix Ice blast before nerfing anything please.
Morti.
Its been my opinion that the reason that the i13 changes were so 'horrible' is that the devs actually tried to listen to people (note: not saying pvpers) who claimed to know what would work best for pvp. They also took peoples claims that "yeah I would try PvP if only xxxx were in place".
What worries me most about these changes (stalagamites- yeah that needed to happen) (KM- I'm not too sure about, I will crunch some numbers soon) is that I fear they listened to the people screaming "omg nerf KM" rather than actually looking at the numbers and understanding that KM was only 1 attack, rather than an entire chain.
If its true that the devs asked a specific player "hey what changes needs to be made to make pvp viable" and that person asked their friends then reported back, wow that makes me really fearful of where PvP is going in this game.
PvP is has so many facets- zone, duels, team arena, and even fiteklub. I certainly am not an expert in all those different aspects of CoH PvP and I'm not sure any "one" person's opinion is credible to suggest changes.
During the last few weeks of PvP Bootcamp Z asked all of us (players new to pvp as well as a few pvp vets) what we thought needed were top issues. Honestly, while there were some good suggestions and some that just didn't make sense at all, the one thing that I kept thinking was:
You are asking the wrong people.
As a mostly team arena PvPer any suggestions I made would have totally been slanted towards that aspect of the game. If Z had asked someone like Merc maybe it would have been slanted towards fiteklub. If he had asked someone like Suckafish it may have been slanted towards duels. The point is, its nice to take a poll of what people want, but you have to sample the whole population not just one aspect of the PvP spectrum.
The aspect of PvP that I find most enjoyable- team pvp- is such a small population, and we do it so infrequently that potentially its needs/wants should be placed last.
The largest population of people pvping would probably be zone pvpers so changes that affect them (ie... km changes) could potentially lead to more trouble and rage than the few who scream "OMG NERF KM" when they probably would have been screaming "OMG NERF BS" or "OMG NERF CARP MELEE" if they had been hit by it. -
Quote:Anyone have good estimates of the total amount of liquid inf in the game at the moment? I'd like to think that 250B at least removes a measurable portion of the excess (0.3%?). Or are we at the point now where we're in the low quadrillions of inf?
Considering that Topdoc stated he has approximately 500billion, I doubt that 250billion burnt put any appreciable dent in the ocean of inf still floating around.
I'm certainly not a top marketeer nor inf farmer and I have about 80 billion liquid on my characters. -
Quote:LOL I've never heard that as the reason before.
Generally it's better for a melee toon to take the temp power because they are less likely to get 1-shotted at the encounter with Aeon.
Though nowadays, it really doesn't matter.
I've always pretty much played my ill/rad like a tank, for a single mob or av his PAs can tank better than some tanks, he does lack the crowd control that a real tank/brute would have but I have rarely had any issues with a single mob (like Dr. Aeon).
In fact, I've seen more mis-cues from tanks jump into the mob and hitting Aeon with the temp, before he hits his shield, something that I would never do on an ill/rad because I have to do a pa drop, which then aggros him and he hits his shield. -
I recent had to build a computer, not because I wanted too but because the liquid cooling unit in the rig I bought from an online dealer leaked.
At first I thought it was my power supply so I changed it out but still nothing. So I bought a new video card and it worked for a day....till the cooling unit started leaking again...this time I had the side pannel off and saw it so I quickly powered down took everything out and did my best to dry it. But the mobo was shot. So I replaced it added more ram and a new fan cooling unit and it works like a champ.
I will definitely build the next computer I use. -
Quote:I once got yelled at for taking the glowie on an stf on my ill\rad rather than letting the tank get it.Assuming the griefer wasn't the team leader, he/she could've been kicked from the TF and someone else could've taken Sister Solaris to the altar.
The only TFs that come to mind that are impossible to complete if someone intentionally griefs is the STF and the LRSF. If the person with the temp power DCs/leaves, you can't defeat Aeon or Ms. Liberty without them.
I'm kinda curious what the issue was if it was an ITF also
The reason was "what if you dc, we can't finish" I appologized stating that I wasn't aware that controllers dc more than tanks. -
I would guess sister solaris as well. Even if some one were to kb one of the mobs around a hostage into a wall I think the gms would fix that.
Im also guessing the leader\star was the one who griefed the lead hostage portion. Knowing hamster im sure he tried team tping so the guy must have had prompt on.
The only thing I can think of to try would be to stealth him I arctic fog\invis other then try to lead\taunt an npc to Solaris and then when she attaches to that npc taunt\pull it over to the altar. -
Quote:I was not refering to your stacked bar graph, I was talking about what you wrote in your responses to people.I did no such thing.
Look at my illustration again. There are 2 indicators, but only a single column, denoting a single population set.
I'm well aware the two populations overlap. You're barking up the wrong tree here and misreading a graph.
Quote:...the PVE population as a whole, vastly overshadows the PVP population.
Quote:What I'm saying is that, to some, the PVP community is most or all they see of the game. But the total community of the greater game is several orders of magnitude larger than the PVP community alone.
I'm sure even you can see that you are indeed comparing two populations against each other which is invalid in this situation since the populations overlap. You "could" state that the sub-group of people who PvP makes up a very small percentage of the total CoX population as a whole however that is not what you said in either of those quotes, so no I'm not barking up the wrong tree, you are using flawed logic to argue a point that not one is saying is even wrong in the first place.
Is the current PvP population smaller than it was pre-i13... simple put, yes. However, is the entire population playing this game smaller, again yes.
Unless you have facts or data to point out that the decline in the PvP population is 'magnitudes' greater than the decline in the population as a whole then really your whole argument is invalid.
If it was fiscally responsible for the Devs to look at the PvP system pre-i13 and both populations decreased at a simliar rate it would hold that is it still fiscally responsible for them to continue to look at it.
I guess what you may have missed is that there 'have' been upgrades to PvP in this game since i13, one of the improvements that was most requested and has come to pass is the ability to select arena maps, pre-i13 it was purely random. There were also upgrades to the arena in issues 14 and 17.
You could even argue that side switching was what PvPers have been asking for with balance between red and blue for zone play. Remember that pre-13 villains had no way to increase their perception in Sirens call, this was a priority issue brought to the Devs attention by the PvPers in our call for change.
Will the Devs work to improve the PvP aspect of the game, who knows, but your statements that the system is dead and is being left on the cutting room floor has no basis. The only aspect of PvP that the Devs have stated that they have abandoned is base raids, which is unfortunate because those were fun and were a great way for people to try PvP.
Also...
Quote:And going head-to-head against another player is only fun if you both have a chance of actually winning, regardless of what AT/power combinations you select.
Again, what you are trying to state isn't necessarily wrong hyper, given the changes in the game (going to this hybrid pay to play model) I am not sure how much resources the devs will allocate for PvP.
Right now it seems as if they are trying to hit the 'gotta have it all' crowds with lots of small items that will add up to a quick infusion of funds for the game. It will remain to be seen where they put those funds to work at. -
Quote:This is what *I* dislike about I-trials, please don't threaten me or force me to play content that I do not find enjoyable. If certain people would rather run a Lambda or a BAF rather than a MoM or a TPN that should be their choice.
To do this would be akin to saying "ok you guys run a lot of ITFs but not too many Dr. Q's so we are going to give less and less rewards for ITFing unless you guys start running more Dr. Q's." -
BTW-
Hyperstrike- Stating that people are either PvP or PvE (which you did in your illustration) is not exactly a fair assessment. People who PvP also do PvE and just because 100% of the people in this game PvE (on some level) does not mean that the PvP population is invalid due to its size.
The way you are comparing the populations in this game would be as if you compared all humans on who live in Chicago to all humans who live on the planet. The first issue with that comparison is that the two populations overlap, the second issue is that the two comparative descriptors are not even in the same category.
Everyone PvEs... every last person in this game, then you have the various sub-groups that make up that global population:
There are people who enjoy collecting badges- that would be a sub-group
There are people who enjoy building bases- that is also a sub-group
There are people who love marketeering- yet another sub-group
There are people who love to stand in AP or Pocket D and RP- sub-group
and the list goes on and on and on...
People who enjoy pvping are a sub-group of PvErs, its not a you are in this group or that group type of phenomena.
While I do agree with your statement that the sub-group of people who enjoy PvP currently is fairly small, I do think it is a large enough sub-group for the Devs to put some effort and attention in to the wants and needs of this group.
I mean look at the forums, we pvpers, do have our own section and its not buried in another topic like base builders or badgers and the like (even though perhaps the sub-group that collects badges is much larger than PvPers).
There have been multiple instances where upgrades/changes/fixes have been a priority for the Developers for the PvP population.
If you go back and look at the original- "please fix" thread by @not putzing and look at all the prority items that the PvP population (pre-i13) asked the devs to fix/modify, you will see that out of the top 5 items, I believe 4 have been changed/fixed as we the PvP population requested.
Yes TS/HD/DR/inherent resists- are an issue- only because it creates a steep learning curve for anyone who wants to try pvp, you have to learn a whole new set of rules and mechanics (which is why the OP posted this thread), but I do think that with time perhaps we would see some better features to help change the gap between the two current mechanics in the game. If that is a better UI that allows us to toggle accurate PvP vs PvE information, or something of the like, I do think it will come to pass. -
Quote:but most people dont deal with pvp BECAUSE of what the devs. did to it in issue13, i could be fine with what the devs. did if mids designer fixed their pvp stats to accuratly show what your stats look like, its been 8issues and no change, i mean i really feel disapointed for working really hard on my pvp toon on mids and in the game itself, countless hours spent into getting the rare/pvp ios and the money i put into it also, and now to see that its wrong. and ive seen the comments about this all over the forum and people have been asking for a change ever since the DR started.
is there ANY way i can get accurate stats for my pvp toon without going through the all the incredibly complicated mathmatical system?
There actually is...
