Another vote of thanks from here Top Doc.
My DB/Elec stalker got re-rolled for this as the electric wolverine didn't suite me (pretty much the same experience as FourSpeed). Re-rolled as a Brute.
After 8 hours I'm sitting at 45. A lot of this was due to breaking up the PL time with some thoughtful ticket spending. Post level 20, I'd comeplete the arc (7500 tickets) then go and spend!
In terms of actually getting through the missions, there is a lot of sense above, and without using the inspcombine macros, I roll my fingers across F1-F4, leaving a column of 2 greens and purples for emergencies under F5. I think I've died maybe once per 2 runs due to bad purple luck. It doesn't bother me enough to make macros and it makes it marginally more exciting.
I also have to say that it is quite a lot of fun. I'm not slotting anything, and have a dual build setup for my "proper" build.
Some notes on ticket spending for anyone interested:
For the first 2 missions, I took Alchemical Gold for all my tickets, then sold them all for 1. This gave me 5 million startup capital.
I've been rolling Gold x2 (30-34), then either Silver or Bronze (same range) as the mood suits (or depending on the number of tickets I have to hand). Rubbish has been deleted, and I've been relying on memory to determine what's valuable. A lot of this is due to needing Kin Combats for my final PvE build.
General notes;
- Orange salvage is getting cheaper. The income from it is reliable (can still get 1-1.5 mil per item for most), but the plus to that is if you're making rare receipes, it's cheaper to craft them.
- Prices on crafted Bronze recipes are dipping as you'd expect. There are still a few gems, but as I'm not halting my xp at any level, I'm getting a lot of "non-zero" recipes (ones not 30, 40 or 50) which makes selling them take a bit longer.
- High priced rolls have been up & down. 2 Numina uniques, 2 Steadfast Defs and Oblit Quads were the gems, but I've slotted those (or plan to) so they're not liquid assets so to speak. I still see it as more cost effective to risk the random number generator and craft the ones I need than to just roll salvage and sell it.
- When I have filled all my recipe slots, another run will net me easily enough tickets to buy (from the AE vendor) all the uncommons I need. I then do an even number of rolls on Common Arcane & Tech (26-40) to fill up my salvage slots. I then head to the auction house to sell the non-required commons and buy up the rares. 1-2 trips usually allows me to make all the recipes I need which then get sold, slotted or emailed.
I reckon I'm sitting on around 3-500m in unslotted anhancements/recipes/raw inf at the moment with 5 more levels to 50. By the time I'm 50, I would imagine I'd have enough to IO the toon completely. I don't see a need for Purples or PvP recipes on this toon, so that will be job done!
I also quite like seeing overall prices actually take a dip. Makes life happier for everyone.

Thanks Zenyth.
I'm not trying to make my PB something it's not. I remember back in SO days, on a full team, being the only one able to hold things together when it all went south, with Dwarf there as a true rock to give the players time to regroup. And when they did, back to human/Nova for more destruction.
I love that versatility of the AT, but it was somewhat disappointing to be repeatedly splatted on iTrials. A lot of this is to do with being only 50, with no iSlots yet, and I need to rectify that.
It's more a case of filling that gap in a team for those "oh poo" moments, when Dwarf is the only thing that will give a bit of breathing space. Human and Nova is the day-to-day normality.
One thing I did note from your post, is having multiple incarnate powers for each slot depending on whether team or solo. That's really useful, because once you get inherent mez protection through your team, Clarion isn't as useful any more (not entirely useless, just less useful).
Thanks for the comments.

Hi all,
I've spent a long time with my beloved Peacebringer, and have burned out every vestpec & reactorspec & freespec trying out different options. I've never invested much in terms of cash, or thought into IOs.
However with my Emp/Psi & Fire/Storm both at T4 across the incarnate board, I've given my toon a costume makeover, and am now buried in Mids trying to figure out the best build.
With a thinning down of my 50's, I'll be deleting an Ice tank and a perma-Mind-Psi dom as well as (perhaps) a Willpower Brute, so cost is not an issue here, and a lot of the recipes I already have (PvP IO's excepted). What I'm wondering is how well this will actually play. And I really want it to play well, because I do love my PB, but feel that it's underpar at the moment.
The tl;dr version is a tri-form, concentrating in Human form (once I get Clarion), but flexible to switch forms as required. I'm planning on Spiritual Alpha, and Clarion Destiny.
156% recharge with perma-hasten
36% Def to S&L (for human form scrapping)
33-40% resists with all shields up to all apart from Psi & Toxic (not going to try and do much with that as the build is far too tight as it is. Essence Boost is perma though for 15% Toxic resist)
Trying to get a tough human form has left gaps in Nova & Dwarf, but I can't see a way of beefing them up without losing human form effectiveness. I'm also quite concerned about Endurance costs.
Am I doing the right thing here? I've focussed heavily on recharge to keep the human scrap-form quick and self-sustaining (heals back fast, attack chain is fast) as well as the Nova/Dwarf form attacks back quick (because there aren't many of them), then on S&L defence.
Thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Hasten is back in 111 seconds with just 2 recharge slots, which gives you an idea of how much recharge is in here. I can keep Fortitude on 6 people comfortably. Attack wise, with so much recharge, I can chain 3 single target attacks with the cone comfortably, negating the need for more from the secondary.
However, it's a big budget build, but now extremely fun to play. With only a 30 second downtime on the aura's and T4 Clarion, I'm indestructible.
If you do a search for my Emp/Psi guide, there are a few more budget based builds on there that I put together recently. Most of the secondaries take ranged damage sets which would be interchangable with Energy. My benefit is having a hold in my secondary as well as my Epic, and with both of those taking extra hold procs, that makes a big difference. This might change your strategy slightly.

Quote:Also guilty of this. Twice I think. Not good.I have never overbid.. YET lol but I am guilty of another classic screw up. After a successful TF I headed to the RWZ to sell off the enhancements I'd collected.. with every slot IO'd I really have no use for SOs. While there I usually just get rid of any unwanted or worthless recipes as well. Yes you have probably already guess I got carried away and sold off a PURPLE recipe I probably COULD have sold on the Black Market for 300-400 Million for ?? I can't even remember but a WHOLE LOT LESS!

As a long time Empathy defender player, I can certainly say the set has had its ups and downs over time.
However, now, for me, is the best time to be an Empath.
Reasons?
Who else can cover the taunting tank on a BAF? Not every Brute/Tank/Scrap is hitting 60% def. That Fort buff, and AP/HO keep him/her alive while they pull. Shield defenders can't do much more than bubble. Dark/Rad/TA... To debuff Seige they have to get close and risk aggro from adds. I haven't seen a defender brave enough to try that yet! (not saying it hasn't been done!!)
Who else can stick close to the lead Brute/Tank in the "grab" phase of a Lambda? Make sure they get all those goodies without a scratch. Again, Fort, AB, Heals & Auras all help here. Those AOE debuffs just pull aggro.
In normal play - you now have new toys! Pets that do damage, and that you can buff, Judgement powers to do lots of damage! Perma-mez protection! My Empathy defender was promoted from "support" to "contributor" in my eyes with Incarnate abilities. Far from being dead, I feel this is now a viable set. I can do Carnie tip missions without a tray of break frees!!
There is a lot of high level content where a single AV/Boss can give a tank/brute trouble. And whilst a lot of toons are equipped to deal with it, not every toon is. And when they do bite off more than they can chew, I'm there to help. My Brute, for example, is only just plodding through the incarnate grind. He has no level shift, and against the 54 mobs in the trials, he dies. A lot. He's not IO'd to the max, and isn't very tough.
Yet the other day, he puled Siege successfully. And why? Because there was an Empath on his shoulder all the way. AB, Fort, and healing top up was invaluable.
And if the team is eating everything it can see? Then I get to blast too and not feel like I'm a third rate blaster. Once I have Fortitude on everyone that is
Don't give up on your Empath. We never had it so good. Just remember, not everyone is IO'd to the hilt. Not everyone has a purpled out 'shade. And not everyone knows when they've bitten off more than they can chew.

Thanks ever so much for the reply Bronze...
I'm not overly worried about optimal DPS - I've played defenders a lot!
However, opening your build and seeing a flat out improvement in positional defence was a bit staggering for meI'm normally used to picking optimal builds straight out of a hat. This is precisely what I was after - which is a completely different viewpoint.
So the main difference between these builds is that mine favours regen over recharge. Yours favours recharge and a bit more defence over regen.
I'm guessing that with that huge defence and a little resistance, you assume that the regen is not as important.
How does your build play? Are you sucking wind much?
Don't you find caltrops counter-intuitive to AAO?
What are your thoughts on Shield Charge as an opener? (i.e. use it from range rather than jumping into a spawn and getting AAO bonusses before firing it)
That was a really helpful reply. Thanks very much.

I have a BS/SD scrapper which is my highest scrapper ever, sitting now at 35 and I've started to play with builds to see what I can do.
Here's my first pass...

I think the +Def is a wise move, but I'm not sure what noticeable effect the +regen will give me.
I have lots of money, but am not sure I want to spend a lot on this toon, so things like PvP & Purple recipes are out. Everything else is pretty much "in".
People talk about +Recharge and there's very little built into the build. Why is it so important? Is it so that big attacks come back quicker? I don't see the value in spending millions on getting a massive recharge bonus just to shave a couple of seconds off here & there. (Coming from an Empath here where +Recharge is critical)
What sort of Incarnate slots should I be looking at? I've thought about opting for +Damage, but am unsure about caps & such.
All thoughts appreciated.
Cheers!

Quote:* Non-sensical attempt at humor for the sole purpose of filling in a spot so the list will be ten items rather than nine, actually written last but slapped into the ninth spot so the repeating joke is in the tenth.
* Final installment of the repeating joke; hopefully the funniest of them. Hopefully.

My third iteration of the Empathy/Psychic Blast guide was written for I11 and IO's. The main reason this has not been updated is because of the sheer amount of time involved in writing it out.
It did have hyperlinks to City of Data (all now broken) and was nicely formatted, only to be laid to waste with the forum upgrade (along with our shiny "Guide Contributor" titles)
I also am not sure of the reward vs time benefits either. I've had relatively few comments on the guide considering the 2,600 views. Only three people thought it worthwhile to say something, so that doesn't inspire me to revisit it. That said, I did add an update post at the request of a few PMs I'd received over the time. (I have to add that I'm as guilty as anyone of reading a guide, thinking "that was really good", then not adding a reply comment)
Then there's the problem of doing something twice. Having had a lot of experience with a Fire/Storm controller and a TA/A defender, I could write guides for those, however Eldandil and Luminara have already really covered the bases with their excellent guides already written.
It's probably a combination of much of the above, and the fact that folks can generally get a better view from an answer to a specific question... Unless you're me...

Fixed: Must be a cache thing. Flushed my internet settings and the new password is now accepted.

Hi all,
Frustrating morning so far going and changing all my passwords for things, and I've come unstuck changing my forum password here.
NC Soft master account password: changed
Game account password: changed
Clicking on "UserCP" and "change password" gives me a screen that redirects me to the NC Soft site to change my game account password.
I thought game and forum accounts were linked, but I'm now the proud owner of different passwords for my game account and the forums here.
Anyone know how to change the forum password?
Am I missing something obvious?
Cheers,

If you're central in Brum, and are looking for refreshment, I can very heartily recommend the Wellington as a place to quench your thirst.
A rather excellent selection of beer (no idea about the lager situation) however they do no food. Additionally, the only big screen displays the beer list rather than footy.
The Pork Scratchings (forget being healthy) are to die for. Honest...

Probably not much help but Windows 7 is working fine for me.

Hi folks,
I have a base that's about 5-6 years old now, and I spent a lot of time fitting it out initially.
However I fancy a change now, but am putting a redesign off because I have no idea where to start.
I'm at the cap for storage and telepads, so you can imagine the base is chock full, so I can't just delete stuff and re-add it. It all has to be moved around.
Has anyone gone through a complete refurb of their base - and how did you go about it? e.g. did you plan it out on paper before you began, or just wing it?
How did you manage day-day access whilst you were in transition?
I also need pointing to a few guides that I can't seem to find:
- How to have banners where you can change the SG emblem and (for example) get them to spell words out.
- How to build multi-level bases/stack items. I recall this being quite complex a long time ago, but I also recall something changed to make stacking easier. It's been so long since I did any editing.
Any and all help appreciated!
Thanks,

Congrats Boomie!
PM on its way to you.

Just under 30 minutes left folks!
Come grab a bargain!!

Just a quick reminder that this closes in just over 12 hours. In the event of a flurry of +1inf bids close to auction close, I will used the forum timestamp to determine the winner.

OP Edited with IO details.
As I am thinking I may have shifted all my set IOs out, I'm not guaranteeing anything left there. Anyone who has already placed a bid may remove it if this was important to them.
Highest bid currently 100million.

No sure if any fellow EU players are considering trying the NA servers, but I thought I'd let anyone thinking of it know, that I'm auctioning off my redside supergroup on Virtue (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...06#post3631706)
As a long time player of NA servers, it would be nice to see EuroNova go to a good home!
Thanks for reading!

As the title says, a base up for auction redside if anyone wants to play with something new:
