Re-modelling a base...

Hi folks,

I have a base that's about 5-6 years old now, and I spent a lot of time fitting it out initially.

However I fancy a change now, but am putting a redesign off because I have no idea where to start.

I'm at the cap for storage and telepads, so you can imagine the base is chock full, so I can't just delete stuff and re-add it. It all has to be moved around.

Has anyone gone through a complete refurb of their base - and how did you go about it? e.g. did you plan it out on paper before you began, or just wing it?
How did you manage day-day access whilst you were in transition?

I also need pointing to a few guides that I can't seem to find:
- How to have banners where you can change the SG emblem and (for example) get them to spell words out.
- How to build multi-level bases/stack items. I recall this being quite complex a long time ago, but I also recall something changed to make stacking easier. It's been so long since I did any editing.

Any and all help appreciated!

Thanks,

-H

what I did with my recent re-model was to make a new row of rooms up the side of the plot of the base, with one of each important room along it that I could drag important items to one after another. After that was done, I deleted the now empty rooms and rebuilt my base, moving items back across as nessecary.

This one is pretty easy.

Change your Supergroup logo and colors to whatever letter you want the banner to show.

Place a banner.

Change your supergroup logo to the next letter.

Place another banner, OF A DIFFERENT TYPE.

Repeat til done.

Change your Supergroup logo and colors back to whatever you wanted them to be.

The key thing to understand is that a logo object in the base editor will keep whatever logo and colors the SG had at the time it was placed, until such time you either move it or place another object of the same type.

By "same type" I mean for example if you place a "Large Supergroup Banner 10", it will keep the logo until you place another "Large Supergroup Banner 10", upon which both banners will change to whatever logo and colors your supergroup is set to at that time.

Yep! Just did that LM.

I decided to start by nuking all decorative crap. I had the 5x5 teleporter room with a monstrosity I created right after i13 stacking came out.

First, I went for functionality, which means:
- 11 teleporters
- med bay with auto-doc and 2 robo-surgeries
- maximized storage (which is still inadequate)
- supercollider buff-machine
- all 3 crafting tables (why not)

Luckily I had 4 mil in PRESTIGE sitting there when I got back. I was seriously expecting to start from scratch, so this was a NICE surprise.

Re/ teleporters, you can max these using the 5x5 room for 8 of them and a 3x3 room for the last 3. I bricked off part of each of these in effect giving me a 3x5 with 8 and another 2x3 with 3 (which doubles as a hallway to the Ouro Crystal into one square of the 1x4 control room, bricked off to make the crystal look like it's in its own room, and the remainder of the control room and attached energy room not accessible without base editing--who needs to see those anyway)

I arranged things around having the doors in a tight central loop through the portal room and infirmary, with all teleporters (and Ouro Crystal) south of there, and the two workshops north of there).

Bah... takes too long to describe. I'll post pix when I get away from my hell hole (a.k.a. "work")

For stacking, stick with the "floor safe" under "room details" and one of the featureless "cabinets" for decoration. And for horizontals from walls (like teleporter beacons), try shoji lamps. There are some brief pics on the paragon wiki "base editing" that I contributed recently: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Base_Editing

Some of the notes there might be helpful, especially buying a larger plot to remodel, then selling it back when done...

Also, most base designs I've seen posted here do not take enough advantasge of the "lighting" options--they seem so dark! I didn't even know invisible ambient lighting could be adjusted until I read the above article. Silly me! And a very useful feature that seems to be under-used.

Already some good advice given out here =)

It sounds like you're in roughly the same spot I was when I got the itch to redecorate a couple of months ago. You've got stuff you want to keep and not re-craft, which is completely understandable. What I did first was to increase my base's plot size. I also spent a bit more prestige to make it a "secure" plot, which increases the amount of control and energy items you can place. How big you need to go in plot size is up to you, but I'd recommend adding at least 4 more boxes along one side (in your case, maybe 6 if you're moving your big teleport room). This should give you enough space to move your existing rooms you want to keep to the side while refitting the space they used to occupy. Once you're done, you can either move the old room's items into the new room or just move the entire old room into its new place. Bear in mind you can add doorways between rooms, too; you're not just limited to what the base editor automatically places between a room you're adding and its existing adjacent rooms.

Hope this helps!
