Thanks for all the fine explanations.
I'm probably not interested in going red-side, even if it means having a nice buffable pet for soloing. Number one, I'm not willing to make the effort. Number two, I'm not that interested in soloing this character. It's meant as a team build, and when I am not teaming (or dual-boxing for farming or some such), I'll just play something else.
So based on your excellent advise, I've re-done the build mostly for recharge, and still picked up some decent benefits otherwise.

Thanks Stormy.
Are you concerned about your own defense? If not, why?
Not sure if I want to go redside just to pick up an ancillary pool. I've not done alignment switching since coming back to the game. Would I have to go all the way to "villain" just to pick the ancillary pool? Do I have to be still on red-side as I pick each additional power from the pool? -
Okay, I've made some tweaks based on adding AB. This re-working allows me to stay more-or-less capped on AoE def, get ~34% on ranged, and get ~19% recharge bonus.

Any suggestions or comments? -
Re/ Adrenaline Boost: I didn't realize mids had the last choices in the sets not showing because of the windows size. I DEFINITELY need to put that in and sacrifice something else. I'll post again after I fix it.
Thanks Infini! -
...or if you think it looks okay as-is, please say so. I don't want to use my last vet respec on this one unless I more-or-less have it right.
Thanks!
BTW, I plan on going spiritual for the alpha, so I didn't worry too much about recharge bonuses. -
Hello all,
I'm shooting for a heavy support character on this one, and assuming I can toggle on superspeed and combat jump (with the unbounded leap +stealth proc) in order to stay invisible when not attacking even when close to the melee part of the team. So I went for set bonuses with AoE defense, assuming that's mostly what I'll be getting hit with. When I hit 45% on that, I put some into ranged defense, which seems like the second most likely thing I'll be hit with.
Please let me know if you spot any flaws or missed opportunities based on my stated goals. Thanks!

Quote:It's nice to know the actual number. That's still quite a lot to someone only holding about 300 million after playing for 39 months... I could start farming or marketing instead of playing the game, I guess. But that seems like work. I'd much rather spend $10 or $20 and press a few buttons. Nice to know we might have that option soon(tm).Positron said that they are working on a way to do that but it will likely not be ready for Freedom launch.
As a side note, I did the math once you can make a fully functional heroside base for less than 4 million prestige which requires the conversion of only 2 billion inf. -
Experts claim that the term you are looking for is "weasel words".
I'm completely neutrral on the argument at hand, since I'm on Justice, and have never had a problem soloing when I felt like it or teaming when I felt like it. -
One thing that currently cannot be xfered from one server to another is a supergroup base and prestige. Yes, you can start a new one, but it takes quite a while to get the prestige to build a fully-functional base. And no, I don't think converting 60 billion INF is an acceptible alternative.
If "freedom" hits, and those of us with jobs decide we must flee the drooling hoards of potty-mouth 7-year-olds and run screaming for the gated community known as "VIP server" it would be REALLY, REALLY NICE if we could take our bases with us.
PLEASE?!? Maybe just as a one-time (or even purchased) option? -
Why bother limiting "free" accounts to 2 characters? If someone wants 10 characters, wouldn't they just create 5 free accounts?? It's not like it will cost them more.

First, welcome back!
I have an I6/I7 Energy/Energy blaster who needs a tune-up (all SOs at the moment). Since I used to mostly blap, and since I was going for added defense without spending too much, here is my own plan... haven't done it yet, but I figured I'd chime in here instead of starting another thread.
http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...18FF018322CF3A
There's lots of nice procs out now, such as using a stealth proc in sprint (which works according to MIDs, but I haven't tried in-game) -- so if you toggle on superspeed + sprint you have invisibility.
So what I was going for here was getting 20% on the positional defenses (AoE, Ranged, Melee), since the defense check takes the highest between positional and typed. Other than the LOTG and other globals, any other benefit is icing. You can get a lot of mileage out of the "totals" window in MIDS alongside the "find set bonus" window--it really helped me to even out the defense.
I have no idea where to go with the Alpha Slot once I re-do my blaster like this. It might depend on how it plays. -
I had forgotten about the game having an auto-complete until a few days ago when I selected it accidentally!
But now that you mention it, yeah--auto-complete. Because it takes about 30 minutes to sit there waiting for them all to come to you. BORING! -
well, "good" is kinda ambiguous... but I upgraded mine for about $225. Can I assume you're willing to do open-heart surgery on your computer?
Here's what I did:
kept:
- the SATA hard drive
- USB multi-card pseudo-floppy drive,
- case/ps,
- dvd rw
- 22" lcd wide monitor
bought new:
- motherboard,
- AMD Athlon 64 x2 5200+, cpu fan,
- 4 GB ddr2/800 ram,
- generic GT 430 graphics card (PCI express 2.0 x16)
If you don't have a SATA drive, it's worth another $75-ish. The difference in booting Windows XP is very noticable between the two.
I can run two instances of CoH with no problem, with "Ultra" graphics on the lower-middle setting (on a 22" monitor set to 1680 x 1050)
I have always had good results buying from tigerdirect.com. -
Depends what you mean by "decent" I suppose.
I don't care about bleeding edge--so if you mean "decent" the same way I do, you could go with the cheapest effective solution. I went with a GT 430 (Zotac brand from tigerdirect, 1GB DDR3, PCIe 2.0x16) for $50 ($70 minus $20 rebate). Works just fine in Ultra mode, with the settings set to the lower-middle of the slider.
Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't justify spending multiple hundreds of dollars on a graphics card, just to see a bit more graphics "wow"? Meh. Doesn't really make the game play any differently.
I upgraded my entire computer for $225 (new motherboard, AMD Athlon X2 5200+ cpu, 4 GB ddr2/800 ram, cpu fan, and the above graphics card). -
I added a complete walk-through of the process here: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Base_Editing
Hope it helps! -
It's kind of a long story. I came back after 3 years, but wasn't sure I could get my old account back, so the padding is being done from a new account that has nothing over level 12. I did get my old master account back and there are 2 game accounts there, one of which I activated, and am playing. As soon as the new account goes inactive, I plan to re-activate the 2nd (original) game account and use that to re-pad the SG that owns that base.
Aren't you sorry you asked???
I promise I will add a water cooler and bathroom doors at that point. But no plants. They'd just die from lack of sunlight down there anyway. That and the smell of arcane salvage that just never really goes away. -
Nope! Can't do it. Not only does that mismatch the "warehouse" concept, but I've decided to make 2 warehouses, the one shown having 12 racks for uncommon salvage and 6 for rare, and the new base having all 18 for common salvage.
So I already moved all my "padding" toons to the new spot, so this one has a prestige balance of -280K. I can't even add a $0 doorway. -
If you have some money, and you want a fully-functional base in a 12x12, here is what I had until I decided to put in a large room for decorating (which I haven't done yet!). This base has all 22 hero-side beacons, a reclaimator with 2 robo-surgeries, an auto-doc, an Ouro Crystal, 8 enhancement tables, 8 salvage racks, 1 Insp. Holder, all 3 work benches, the SuperCollider, Personal Vault, and invention workbench.
And here is a strategic re-arrangement after upgrading to 12x16 to fit in a 7x7 room:
I have a habit of bricking off the generator and control items, because nobody needs to see them or do anything with them...
I also have a habit of bricking off unused parts of teleporter rooms, as you can see. So I plan to do one of those obnoxious conference rooms in the 7x7 as I find the time.
And I like having long lines of sight down the hallways, with travel between rooms concentrated toward the center.
Hope this helps, somehow. -
Here is what I did converting just a little INF to Prestige (I think I had to add about 300K Prestige) to get a small base maxxed out for salvage storage and nothing else.

Quote:Looks like you've been ignored for about a month. My SG is on Justice, but I'd be more than willing to spin up a toon on Freedom and help get you started.I am on the freedom sever and im looking for some to help design my supergroup base. It is fully functional however its lacking a bit of room detail. So what im looking for is for someone to make the base a more eye catching adding colors and stuff. if your interested in helping me out leave your global name and ill get in touch with you thanks.
Send me an in-game tell @Granny some evening or weekend. I've just re-started designing my base, and would be willing to give you a brief tour if you have any toons on Justice. I have not much decorative yet... but I'm working on it bit by bit whenever I get tired of actually playing. The next phase will be a decorative conference room.
Hopefully you are willing to do some of the work, or most of it... and I can just get you started, or get you over a few of the rough spots. -
Quote:Yep! Just did that LM.Hi folks,
I have a base that's about 5-6 years old now, and I spent a lot of time fitting it out initially.
However I fancy a change now, but am putting a redesign off because I have no idea where to start.
I'm at the cap for storage and telepads, so you can imagine the base is chock full, so I can't just delete stuff and re-add it. It all has to be moved around.
Has anyone gone through a complete refurb of their base - and how did you go about it? e.g. did you plan it out on paper before you began, or just wing it?
How did you manage day-day access whilst you were in transition?
I also need pointing to a few guides that I can't seem to find:
- How to have banners where you can change the SG emblem and (for example) get them to spell words out.
- How to build multi-level bases/stack items. I recall this being quite complex a long time ago, but I also recall something changed to make stacking easier. It's been so long since I did any editing.
Any and all help appreciated!
Thanks,
-H
I decided to start by nuking all decorative crap. I had the 5x5 teleporter room with a monstrosity I created right after i13 stacking came out.
First, I went for functionality, which means:
- 11 teleporters
- med bay with auto-doc and 2 robo-surgeries
- maximized storage (which is still inadequate)
- supercollider buff-machine
- all 3 crafting tables (why not)
Luckily I had 4 mil in PRESTIGE sitting there when I got back. I was seriously expecting to start from scratch, so this was a NICE surprise.
Re/ teleporters, you can max these using the 5x5 room for 8 of them and a 3x3 room for the last 3. I bricked off part of each of these in effect giving me a 3x5 with 8 and another 2x3 with 3 (which doubles as a hallway to the Ouro Crystal into one square of the 1x4 control room, bricked off to make the crystal look like it's in its own room, and the remainder of the control room and attached energy room not accessible without base editing--who needs to see those anyway)
I arranged things around having the doors in a tight central loop through the portal room and infirmary, with all teleporters (and Ouro Crystal) south of there, and the two workshops north of there).
Bah... takes too long to describe. I'll post pix when I get away from my hell hole (a.k.a. "work")
For stacking, stick with the "floor safe" under "room details" and one of the featureless "cabinets" for decoration. And for horizontals from walls (like teleporter beacons), try shoji lamps. There are some brief pics on the paragon wiki "base editing" that I contributed recently: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Base_Editing
Some of the notes there might be helpful, especially buying a larger plot to remodel, then selling it back when done...
Also, most base designs I've seen posted here do not take enough advantasge of the "lighting" options--they seem so dark! I didn't even know invisible ambient lighting could be adjusted until I read the above article. Silly me! And a very useful feature that seems to be under-used. -
I'll do some noodling in my base to figure out the grid size for the maze (in terms of number of floor safes) per room section. Do the verticals have to be friendly to non-fliers (like do they need steps)?
-
I guess it could be done using the ever-stack-friendly floor safe. That's a LO-HA-HA-HA-HOT of stacking. I'm not interested in the INF, since it represents $9 to $18 bux in U.S. dollars (per current Chinese Prisoner/Guard conversion rates posted online). But it's an interesting idea. Have you drawn out a maze on paper? In other words, do you have a blueprint of what you want, or is that part of the project (to propose one)?
And half of what-size room? What about lighting? Do you want it dark, or lit (lit is extra work, of course). -
No, it's not unethical, because it's your opinion.
But what makes you think it's a farm? The mass of closely-spaced mob spawn points in a very herdable-looking map?
