I have just come back from a 3 yeah hiatus and I am wondering how my build is. I am level 50 and want to respec. This is my idea from my respec. I am curious about slotting and enhancments. Do I need 4 slots in combat jumping or would taking the jump IO out be ok? I am also not sure about my last power. I was thinking maybe super speed with 2 slots? Any help would be great thanks!

Hi Aurora_X,
after a quick look here's some suggestions:

- Combat Jumping
4 jumping slots seems a bit of a waste.
I usually put in a LoTG +Rech and/or the Karma -KB proc.
Another option is the Kismet +Acc Proc but with all the Thunderstrikes +7% you prob wont need this.

- Thunderstrikes (x5)
By only using 5 Thunderstrikes you are missing out on 2.5% Ranged Defence which you get with the 6th slot.
This can help make you very hard to hit at range.

- Build Up
Replace the 3 Recharge IO's with the Adjusted Targeting: Recharge and ToHit/Rech.
This takes the recharge from 41.6 > 48.3 seconds but also grants a +2%
Move the 3rd slot to AIM

- Energy Torrent
Look at 5 slotting Posi Blast. The set bonuses are a LOT better (acc is a bit worse but with all your global acc shouldnt be an issue).

- Super Jump
What about 2x Blessing of the Zephyr?
Will grant you additional KB prot (if you use that proc) and also the 2nd slot will give another 1.25% Ranged def.

- Aim
Put in 4 Adj Targetings.
+2% Dam
+9% Acc

- Power Boost
Drop it. It doesnt help with your KB effects.

- Accrobatics
Dro pit. You have plenty of -KB from IO's

- Conserve Evergy
Dop it. Your EndUse is soooooo low that you should never need it to be honest.

--- Instead of Power Boost, Accrobatics and Conserve maybe look at taking the Fighting pool (Boxing or Kick, Tough and Weave).


Thats all I have time for now (at work).
Id also look at using Sciroccos in Nova.

Personal Force Field doesn't need that many slots at all.

You can't attack while it's on, so it doesn't matter how much end it burns, and it takes you WELL above the soft cap without any slotting at all. (the soft cap is 45% defense, PFF puts you at 60%+ unslotted)

I'd just put a LotG +Recharge in there and call it a day. Use the 3 slots you saved somewhere else.

First, welcome back!

I have an I6/I7 Energy/Energy blaster who needs a tune-up (all SOs at the moment). Since I used to mostly blap, and since I was going for added defense without spending too much, here is my own plan... haven't done it yet, but I figured I'd chime in here instead of starting another thread.

There's lots of nice procs out now, such as using a stealth proc in sprint (which works according to MIDs, but I haven't tried in-game) -- so if you toggle on superspeed + sprint you have invisibility.

So what I was going for here was getting 20% on the positional defenses (AoE, Ranged, Melee), since the defense check takes the highest between positional and typed. Other than the LOTG and other globals, any other benefit is icing. You can get a lot of mileage out of the "totals" window in MIDS alongside the "find set bonus" window--it really helped me to even out the defense.

I have no idea where to go with the Alpha Slot once I re-do my blaster like this. It might depend on how it plays.

Ok I took into account some things and here is what I have come up with. I am not sure what to slot Force of Nature with and as aid other? Do I have too many slots in Aid other? How does this look. I changed some powers and a few IO's. Been a while since I have played and looking to make my char better. I am also not sure about that last power. Thanks for the advice

Hi Aurora,
I think before we can offer any real advice we will need to know what you want from this toon.
Do you want high defence?
Do you want to blap (run into melee and smack things)?
Is this a team-only toon?

These can all make a difference.

For example if you want either of the first two Id strongly recommend getting Tough and Weave.

A word about Procs.
The Numina ++ Proc you have in Aid Self will only provides its benefit when you activate the power.
Instead put it in Health which is ALWAYS on. Same with the Miracle + Proc if you get it.

For Force of Nature if you use 3 Res/Rech IO's it will put you a tad over ED for both values taking the Resistance from 35% > 50.1% and the Recharge from 1000s (16mins 35secs) > 474s (8mins). By using 3 different Sets you wont get any set bonuses but often its better to get higher Enh Values than set bonuses.

You are also lacking in AoE attacks with only Energy Torrent hitting more than 1 foe. Explosive Blast and Repulsion Bomb can help fill this hole.
Expl Blast however has a 3.32mag KB

That is a good question. I usually like to stand back but have few melee attacks just incase. So defense is important to me. so would you just put one slot in aid other/self and fully slot health? Hopefully this info can give you an idea of what i am looking for

If you plan on staying at range most of the time, I'd swap the 6 slotted Crushing Impact with 6 slotted Mako's Bite. The 6 slot bonus on that is 3.75% ranged defense.

I would not slot Aid Other with more than 2 slots, and that's if you plan on ever using it. If you don't plan on using it, don't slot it at all. Note about using it: Aid Other is an interruptible power, so it won't be very useful in combat, which is when you might want to heal someone. Personally, I'd leave the healing to the ATs that are built for it. If you just want Aid Other to get to Aid Self, don't bother slotting it.

I would seriously consider hover-blasting with this character if I were you. Hovering means you can prevent enemies from entering melee range with you at all, making that ranged defense even more valuable. Basic defense tactic: Force them to attack you from the position where you are strongest. If you have good ranged defense, make them attack you from range.

You don't need to 6 slot Force of Nature. I'd just leave it with 3 recharge IOs, but if you want some more resistance out of it, you can use 3 Res/Rech IOs from different sets.

Definitely move the Numina's Unique from Aid Self to Health. It does not work like the LotG piece, the power it is in has to actually be USED before you get the effect of it. Putting it in an autopower like Health means it will always be on.

I'd replace the rest of the Numina's with 5 Doctored Wounds.

And, I'd take some of the slots you saved there and slot up Power Thrust with a full set of Mako's Bite as well. It will give you another ranged defense set bonus and will give the power some recharge in case you end up having things in your face you don't want there. Plus the fact that you can still use it while mezzed means there are going to be a decent number of times where you want it recharging faster.

I'd only put maybe another slot or two in Health. No more than 3 total.

Thanks. How does this look? I changed jump for hover and fly but I am unsure about the slots and IO's now that is fly. Also is that what you meant about slotting aid self and health? I was not sure were you meant doctored wounds should go? Thanks again

Apologies for the wall-of-text, but here's my $.02.

Notes on BU/Aim - Outside of PvP or rare fringe cases in PvE, the only thing that you need to slot them for is +rech. Aim in particular has ridiculously high base +tohit - the only thing that might still dodge you more than 5% of the time (with Aim up) is a horde of Nemesis troops with way too many stacks of Vengeance up. If you are conserving slots, use two generic L50 +recharge IOs, which will bring you to ~85% recharge slotting. If you have slots to spare and want a little more out of them, use 1 generic +rech IO, with an Adjusted Targeting +rech and +tohit/rech pair. That will ED-cap your recharge slotting, with a little extra +tohit and a minor +damage set bonus. If you were to just twoslot it, the greater uptime of BU/Aim with 2 +rech IOs will outweigh the damage set bonus of using the two Adjusted Targeting pieces alone.

Force of Nature I would recommend slotting with a mix of Resist/Recharge IOs from various sets for maximum enhancement value. Most of the resistance set bonuses aren't that stellar anyway. Temp. Invulnerability... the Steadfast Protection set bonuses aren't that impressive, and one -KB IO (which you have in your travel powers courtesy of Blessing of the Zephyr) is enough to protect you from 95% of PvE knockback. The other 5% (Fake Nemesis, Katie Hannon, Hamidon, etc.) will take at least three IOs to deal with, and isn't really worth worrying about unless you're a Fire or Dark tank who's expected to stand up to them without native protection to knockback. I usually would suggest 3x Titanium Coatings (+Res, +Res/End, and +Res/End/Rech (or Res/Rech) and the Steadfast Sef/Res. That'll give you maxed (or darn close) resistance, a boost to Max HP, and more endurance reduction than the +recovery in Steadfast Protection is worth, while being very affordable.

In Nova, Scirocco's Dervish is OK, but that set is better suited to damage auras or high-cost AoE attacks that are used often, where the endurance reduction is important. If you can afford it, the Obliteration set was tailor-made for tier 9 nukes - it caps out your damage and recharge, while adding a damage proc and top-notch set bonuses.

In the Medicine pool, I'd oneslot Aid Other (or twoslot with +heal if you want to use it more often). 5 or 6 slot Aid Self with 5x Doctored Wounds and, ideally, an interrupt reducer - that way you can use it in combat, even when you have a DoT effect like a Council flamethrower ticking away at you, if you time it right. If you had all the slots in the world, Health would get the Miracle and Numina procs along with their respective +Heal pieces, but cutting some of the enhancement from Health isn't a huge loss for a blaster, esp. if you have the Medicine pool - you can even power-boost your Aid Self, so don't worry about taking slots from health.

For your melee attacks, Crushing Impact works well as a cheap, all-purpose set with good enhancement values. For greater survivability though, 6x Mako's Bite offers a hefty ranged defense boost and a damage proc in exchange for some small cuts to the raw enhancement values. If you aren't building for ranged defense (or are low on Influence and want to stick with what you have) then use what you have.


A note on Ranged Defense in general - with lots of places to put full Mako's Bite and Thunderstrike sets, blasters can get a bunch of this without too much effort, and it makes a large difference in survivability. Ranged defense both cuts lots of incoming damage and incoming mez/debuff effects, since the vast majority of mezzes are ranged attacks.

If you can get 25% ranged defense through sets, that alone will cut your damage intake in half. At 32.5%, you have enough that popping one small Luck inspiration will softcap your (ranged) defenses - in short, for a minute you are nearly as secure as a Super Reflexes scrapper. Both of those levels are doable without major slotting/power choice compromises. If you make a more singleminded effort, it is possible to reach 45% ranged defense on even a blaster, but then you start making more compromises on your core damage output.

You don't necessarily need to be a hover-blaster to leverage this, though it is a valid option - since you had Combat Jumping (and hurdle, though that's inherent now), you could just bunny-hop away from enemies that want to melee you, and keep firing while jumping. You can even joust past them with your energy punches if you want. Use whichever travel power you prefer conceptually - my main blaster teleports, with Combat Jumping as backup. My Sonic defender (built back in I7, before temp. travel packs were available) has never taken a "true" travel power (and doesn't have Ninja Run), because slotted Hurdle + Combat Jumping lets you bunny-hop your way around as fast as Flying, while being unsuppressed in combat. For that though, slotting Hurdle for +Jump is more effective than slotting Combat Jumping for it - Hurdle increases both speed and height, whereas CJ only really affects the max jump height.


Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.
