It's pretty clear that Statesman is an Incarnate of Zeus.
Zeus being an Olympian god in mythology.
Incarnate is pretty much a human form.
So an Incarnate of Zeus is Zeus in a human body.
Statesman being like Jesus in this manner (according to the Bible in regards to Jesus). Jesus being the incarnate of God in the act of being the son of God simulaneously. (I'm not trying to argue this point. I'm simply pointing this out for reference.)
As a personification of Zeus, Statesman may be mortal, but still is a god as he "is" Zeus incarnate.
Its not really hard to understand.
Regardless of how you want to play it, as soon as the Well of Souls was involved to grant you Incarnate abilities, they are granting your character "the power of a god or gods" and they have become the Incarnate of that "god or gods".
You can't have Incarnate abilities and not be an Incarnate.
It's pretty strait forward.
I'm sure it will anger people, but there it is. I'm not trying to dis on people that are trying go avoid this fact, but, clearly, if you run the content to get the powers, that's where they came from.
"Character conception" is fairly widely known to be a term used for the "idea behind" a character. Their background, why they do what they do, backstory, etc. It's used by writers all the time, and it is used in RPG manuals quite frequently when discussing character development. I am using it in that manner. A fairly standard usage of that term even here in these forums.
Really, I'm just asking who is going to "stick to their guns" in regards to their character conception and not become an "incarnate/god".
If you take the alpha "Incarnate" slot, you are becoming an "incarnate/god" regardless of character conception and if you like it or not.
I was pretty clear in my question, but people will always try to "skirt around the edges".
I'm not asking IF you will become a "god".
I'm saying who's going to stick to charater conception and not take Incarnate slots because it wasn't part of their character conception to "become an Incaranate" aka a personified god?
I see no reason for any of my current characters to "become personified god(s)".
I can see people wanting to play Thor, Hercules, etc. which have been super-heroes in comics - well, gods that were superheroes in comic.
I, however, didn't and don't intend on making gods/incarnates as superheroes in this game.
I was trying to find out who thought the same way that wouldn't do Incaranate content because it meant they would be becoming an Incarnate (regardless of trying to avoid the fact that by getting Incarnate powers that they will be becoming an Incarnate).
I wasn't trying to find out who would make excuses as to why getting Incarante powers wouldn't be making you an Incarnate.
Oh, well.
Some people just like to post about anything. Nothing new there.
Some people will avoid the question and just post what they want to post. Nothing new there either.
But the orginal question and point of this thread still stands.
I know my characters aren't meant to become "Incarnates/gods".
I'm not losing out. I'm playing super-heroes (and villains, etc.)
That's why I'm playing the "super" MMORPG and not the "I'm an Incarnate/god" MMORPG.
City of Incarnates? Wouldn't have bought it.
I'm not trying to dis on anyone that wants to play a character that would have them, who wants to make excuses for why their character(s) have Incarnate powers that aren't Incarnate powers, or anyone that created a character that they would never have considered being an Incarnate and are becoming one simply because the content is now availible for that character to become an Incarnate/god.
Is anyone playing a super that will stay a super instead of becoming an Incarnate/god (by gaining Incarnate content abilities) because it isn't part of that character's conception to become an Incarnate/god?
It's really not that tricky of a question. -
Anyone less out there consider that all or most of their characters aren't "gods"?
And/or that they shouldn't become "gods" due to character conception?
I've always been here to play "super" beings of one type or another, but Incarnate seems to jump right over demi-god into full "god-mode". I know there are plenty that think it is great that their charater is becoming a "god" ...er... I mean Incarnate, but was it/is it in any of your character conceptions that your characters weren't intended to become "gods"?
I guess the real question is "anyone out there that is willing to stick by their character conception and not have a character become an Incarnate based on that character conception (... unless it was part of their orginal character conception to be a "god" or become a "god" when the character was created)?"
I stuck in that last part as there have been player character conceptions since near the get-go (which I read) that stated the character was a "god" of some sort or another.
I'm not really counting the ones that said they were "immortal" as that is pretty slang for "someone that hasn't died yet that expects to live a really long time". Immortals are, definately, not by default "gods"/Incarnates. -
Teleport Self.
I only have one stone tanker, but, it seems that if you don't have a SB'r around, Teleport Self is the way to go.
I definatley wouldn't forsake your anti-mez power for the sake of mobility. -
Quote:Bringing back a thread a month and a half dead just so you can berate the Art Lead about your not getting enough free slots with the release of GR? You could have at least addressed your complaint to the right people in a private PM.
Uh, well, you aren't David Nakayama.
They said that they would address issues.
The first post is ::
Quote:Is there a technical reason why we can't have more than 36 slots?
I have 24 full slots at the moment. It's not exactly a pressing issue in my case, but I hope that it will be an option to go beyond 36 eventually!
Am I late to complain?
No.
The system isn't out yet. People complain all the time about things in the game that have been going on for years.
If the villain players have been able to complain enough after-the-fact to get Influence/infamy (and it is unclear, but I'm assuming information) all bound together into one kind of currency, then I am definitely not late to complain.
So if the Art Director can't answer then maybe The Ocho can?
PM them? Why? These are forums. I could only hope that other players would be taken-aback at the "2 character tokens" is "additional character slots" controversy.
Maybe you are implying that you run the forums, but you don't.
People make suggestions and complain all the time, they don't have to do it quietly in a groveling manner.
I was asking months before this thread was started. Honestly, I wasn't paying much attention to it as I figured specifics would be listed on the game information pages.
It isn't.
If they aren't trying to hide the fact that "additional character slots" is "2 character tokens" (just 2 as far as I can tell - not 2 per server - just 2.), then are doing a good job of accidentally forgetting to tell people through the normal channels of communication.
This is game box info. It's not some in-game trick or special treat for forum goers (and what a treat it is? more of shock to me, but apparently, most people don't even care that are here in the forums. I'm not shocked by that fact at all really. It's just kind of sad and pathetic from my point of view).
Most CoH players have never come to the forums. They will have no idea that "additional character slots" will mean "2 character tokens". The game info doesn't tell you - it just says "additional character slots".
It's clear that there aren't any "additional slots".
Two tokens isn't what a customer will expect from "additional slots".
They have only the previous expansion to relate to that gave us 4 per server. Yes, 4 per server, not just 4 - certainly not just 2.
The game isn't out yet. This decision - I'm still not 100% sure it wasn't sarcasm or not - can be changed before the game is release and 100's of thousands (hopefully - might not even be 2...) and the 90% of those people that are already playing the game and have never gone to the forums are suddenly disappointed that they didn't get "additional character slots" but instead just "2 character tokens".
But I guess it is better to some people for there to be disappointed customers than to stand up against the DEVs (that generally have been looking out for us) when they are making a bad call for the game.
I guess the point is at this point, "so what".
I don't need GR to play the game. GR isn't bringing anything to the game that is a game breaker for me.
I'm not going to get if I don't get enough slots to make characters with the new power-sets. I'm not going to be suckered into buy a game "without the batteries" - and that's pretty much the story here. The power sets look cool, but I really don't have the slots to use them - 2 isn't going to hack it for this Alt-oholic. -
Quote:Okay, can you explain why we won't be getting 4 slots per server with this expansion like we did when we bought City of Villains? If something is simply not going to happen, I'll always try to level with you guys and explain why it's the case. Thanks for understanding!
I see that the question of character slots was brought up and not answered - as far as I can tell - multiple times - here and in other threads.
I see no reason to go "Champions Online" with us in regards to character slots.
If we can get what we came to expect as far as new character slots with an expansion, then please explain why it is the case.
Why is it that 2 is some how the magic number, or was this a joke?
Thanks. -
Quote:If things that can be traded are rewards then it is just as good as infa coming out.Let the slot machines (or w/e) work. Let player pay w/ inf and be paid in tokens. Tokens are redeemable for prizes (temp powers, enhancements, salvage, w/e but not inf) and or random rolls on reward tables.
Inf goes in but doesn't come out.
As per real a casino, the house always comes out ahead and takes a cut besides.
It's a totally voluntary tax that could be enjoyable as well.
I don't think it work as well if people could gamble inf for inf as if the gambling was inf for goods.
just a thought
I would be for this concept if the goods that could be won by a player were player-generated goods (or is that evils?) via the black market. Infa lost in the gambling house would be used to purchase salvage, recipe, etc. on the black market for the posting price on-the-fly when someone wins and give them as rewards on-the-spot.
So you could only break-the-bank, and the bank couldn't go negative.
The reward would be based on what item was rewarded and how cheaply someone posted it. This really puts a huge risk and amount of chance into the reward system.
So if there is only a small amount of infa, then the casino would only yield low "purchase cost" rewards from the black market. If there was a higher amount of infa in the casino bank then a higher reward bracket could open up in addition to the lower level bracket, etc.
Regardless, I have a feeling that not too many people would be using this mini-game after several weeks unless it was easily exploitable.
Also, to be fair, I'd have to say that the gambling would also have to be available in the Pocket D as well - heck, why not gamble on the Rikti Monkey fights. Having in the Pocket D and not on the Hero side keeps away from any moral dilemma of gambling in the City while still allowing heroes that want to gamble a chance to do so in the "neutral" environment of the Pocket D.
But while we are on the whole animal-cruelty thing about the Rikti Monkey cage-fighting....maybe that needs to be shutdown.

Finally...
Oh, you have to be a Mutant Packer to get a wolf tail.
I see...
And that's a picture of a mutant?
I kind of always thought werewolves were supernatural ....
...oh...yeah... new stuff ... have to pay to be cool ...
... very well ... maybe I'll get that instead of Going Rogue (how many character slots?). We'll have to wait and see.
I hate to be a downer, but some of the marketing moves in this game are really getting me down lately, but an animated Wolf tail is certainly a good lure for selling a booster pack.
With "animated wolf tails" being in the "Mutant" booster pack - I certainly can't imagine what other "mutant" things will be in there! -
Welcome to the City!
The servers are listed in this order ::
The one you were on last (at the top)
The server with the lowest load
....
....
The sever with the highest load (at the bottom).
Load is not necessarily related to population size. Virtue and Freedom actually have larger servers (I think they are the only two). However, in general, it is also I good indicator of current population.
Virtue is the unofficial RPG server.
Champions has been known as the unofficial server for people that played Champions the RPG.
Justice has or had a good sized community of players from the Oceanic region.
Justice and Infinity were both vying for the title of PvP server at one point. There generally isn't a lot of PvP going on in CoH at all. If you want to get into that you want to try to track down the people that run the PvP ladder and find out what they are up to these days.
All of the servers have a different flavor. I wouldn't just go for a high population server, I would go with one that you like the atmosphere of.
Server populations fluctuate based on the time of day and day of week that you log in. Also there are some special events that players hold on servers from time to time that might lure other players over to them.
My suggestion is to avoid Freedom until you have played the game for a while. You will get much better exposure the game and normal game play if you do so. This game isn't about the "end game". It's about the journey to becoming hero and that can be lost due to the play style on Freedom.
[looks like Champion is at 6th place at the moment, but they fluctuate around.] -
Quote:Its been stated, but not in this thread, that there will be 2 additional character slots for those that purchase GR. They are in no way related to this pre-order gamestop special. You cannot exceed the maximum character slots per server limit (36).
No, this pre-order from gamestop is only available now. Once GR goes live, the pre-order special is gone. If you currently have the game pre-ordered at gamestop, when you go in to buy your box, your receipt will have the pre-order code printed on it. You update your account with that code, and you get GR+all the gamestop goods virtual goods.
Weak.
"2 additional character slots" is a joke.
It isn't worth the price of admission. I'm getting the "bait-and-switch" vibe here which is never a good thing - in fact, it's illegal in some States.
We could have based much speculation on this based on the CoV release. Apparently, they have decided to be stingy.
They have little to lose by giving us more character slots, and much to lose by alienating the player base.
There are a lot of Yes-men running around that will say that "it's great!" regardless of how crumby it actually is.
This is not a good thing. In fact, I've seen the information about "extra" slots removed from websites.
Hey! Removing them after the fact that people have purchased the game doesn't remove the fact that it was part of what they bought!
As for me, I'm looking at not buying GR at all at his point. The new power sets look fun, but they aren't worth the money for me.
I have a great game now. I'll keep playing what I have.
There is no "deal sealer" to make me want to buy GR.
There are many "deal breakers" that make me not want to spend my money on GR. I don't have a high-end graphics card and I only have 3 slots left free that I haven't added to my account yet. A couple of characters with new powers isn't worth the price of admission.
I love City of Heroes and that's where I'll be. -
Quote:Yeah, I think that clears up the confusion.Hey Folks,
I know a lot of you are curious about the new enhancements, and I wanted to give make sure you folks are fully informed.
What are these new enhancements?
Will of the Seers:
+ Increase the damage of your power and reduce its recharge time by 16%.
+ Your power now has a chance to cause additional Psi Damage
Clockwork Efficiency:
+ Increase the damage of your power and reduce its recharge time by 16%.
+ Your power now has a chance to additional Energy Damage
Might of the Empire:
+ Increase the damage of your power and reduce its recharge time by 16%.
+ Your power now has a chance to knock down opponents
Resistance Tactics:
+ Increase the damage of your power and reduce its recharge time by 16%.
+ Your power now has a chance to cause additional Smash Damage
Syndicate Techniques:
+ Increase the damage of your power and reduce its recharge time by 16%.
+ Your power now has a chance to cause a Lethal Proc
How do the enhancement bonuses work?
Much like Invention Origin Enhancements, these enhancements provide an unchanging bonus towards the respective effects. This is affected by Enhancement Diversification like any other enhancement.
What about the chance to cause damage?
From levels 1 to 20 the enhancement provides a chance to cause a small amount of additional damage. After level 20 this chance will no longer occur.
I hope this clears any confusion up.
Thanks,
I'll be going to GameStop and pulling my pre-order tomorrow.
I'll wait to see how many free slots we are getting before I buy the expansion.
I don't see why it has to be such a secret "how many free slots" we are getting, but apparently it is. This means to me that we aren't getting many.
If people get different amounts if they pre-order or pre-purchase, that's going to set people off as well.
Who knows what is going on in regard to the slots?
Does marketing know?
Does anyone know?
Will it be a suprise to everyone when GR goes live?
Can we still buy the pre-order once GR goes live if it gives more free slots than pre-order?
I'm seeing a massive ball-dropping going on.
I'm not liking it.
The whole e-mail situation was not handled well. I'm extremely disappointed. Did I say I was going to go pull my pre-order tomorrow?
Yeah, I'm pretty upset about this lack of information.
http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.com/en/gamestop/
still has not been corrected in regards to the "special" enhancements.
http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/gam..._overview.html
has not been corrected in regards to the e-mail.
As players we have a right to be upset when our product is not functioning as we were lead to believe it would be.
With the new rush to get through the first 20 levels, those "special" enhancements are all but worthless. How will a new player feel when they find that out?
That's very bad. very bad.
You guys really need to talk to Prometheus more. His brother will steer you the wrong way every time. -
Quote:For them to admit that they made a mistake rather than saying "the system is working as intended."Dude, get over it already, this is getting pathetic.
They made a mistake, that happens (though it really shouldn't). They owned up to it and are doing everything they can to fix it. What more do you want?
They didn't admit making a mistake. -
Quote:Yes, you do.I think I have a legitimate beef here. Below is a cut and paste directly from the NCsoft support website. NOWHERE does it mention a 30 day deletion window.
There is no tab in the Help menu -that HAS to be accessed with /help because some players were too stupid to look in the Options window and ruined the functionality of the [Help] channel - for the e-mail system -- and you are perfectly right that there was no mention anywhere about the 30 day window.
The Customer Service people are going to have quite a job on their hands rectifying this situation.
Luckily for them, a majority of players won't know that they should /petition about this - regardless of the /gmotd. They will just get very upset at the situation and maybe quit the game.
The MOST sad part about this is that I'm assuming that the e-mail will eventually go the way of the Auction Houses that used to have a 60-day pull-it-or-loose-it policy and e-mails won't ever expire. At least the Auction Houses Reps told you that you would lose items left there for more than 60-days when that situation was still in effect. This never needed to happen from that point of view alone - if it works for the Auction House to store X bins of things per character why is it taking up so much space to store the same information and a limited amount of ASC text in 20 files per account? I can almost guarantee that within a year two e-mails won't be expiring any more.
As players, we all put our trust in the DEVs to do the correct thing and give us all the information. I'm seeing a bit too much information hording going on.
I still don't know how many new slots we will be getting the CoH:GR. I can't believe that I'm the only one that has asked about that.
heck for all I know - at this point - those new slots could expire in 30 days ...right? ... regardless if there are characters are in them or not ... (.... let alone how many we will be getting ...)
Hiding the number of slots is not boding well with me. It has been sticking in my craw for a while and I've been keeping quiet, but this e-mail thing ... I'm really not liking the way that this has been handled ...
"Thank you for your patience and understanding with this matter." ????
How about ...
"We made a grievous error by not informing our loyal player base about this part of the new e-mail mechanic. The system was provided for your convenience and not to cause distress. We are greatly sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused.
"We are always doing our best to bring you the best gaming experience possible, and we will do everything we can in the future to provide complete and accurate descriptions of any new functionality in the game and on the website. Unfortunately, we are human and we dropped-the-ball on this one. It was entirely our fault. Please forgive us for this oversight. We are working hard to bring you a quality product.
"Thank you for subscribing to City of Heroes."
nah ...
"Take that and like it, fanboy!"
That sounds much better, right?!? -
Quote:This is not clear on the website.....
What is the Goal of this Promotion?
...
This is why these are only provided to new characters and cannot be sold/traded/stacked. First, you can’t have enough of them to 6-slot out any power. Secondly, for a L1 character, that 16% damage/recharge boost is nice, but once you hit L20+, IO’s start getting a lot more competitive. The proc rate is low to begin with, and at L21 they won’t even kick in anymore. A L50 character could use these enhancements if they chose to, of course.
...
Procs are from IO sets. Once you slot an IO set Proc it works - never expires.
If what you are saying is true and these Procs expire at 21, that needs to be made clear ... it isn't clear.
I would have bought the Complete Collection regardless as it comes with a month's free play-time and the Super-booster, so you can say "cha-ching" now, I put down my loot on the pre-order.
I don't think it was a "slap in the face" of people that bought the pre-purchase and have access to Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning. They knew what they were doing when they bought it. They wanted to be L337 and on the cutting-edge - and they were at least one of the two.
If they feel bad about pulling their "guns" too soon, then I guess they should learn some patience and use it next time. Pokemon fever isn't going to get you good deals in the in-game markets either.
And to those that said people were cheap for wanting to wait to get the free month,
Bwaahahahaahah!
e/ plot
My master plan is working! And soon there will be new players in the City!
And, yeah, I'm still not teaming with anyone that has Dual Pistols or Demon Summoning on the live-servers until GR drops live. (If I'm lucky enough to test stuff, I'll check it out on the test server). You can thank the jerks that said people were cheap, etc. for not purchasing the pre-purchase vet-version.
And, yeah, I'm still teaming - often with full or nearly full teams. I've only had to quit three teams because a DP or DS showed up on the team and I had already told the leader that I would drop without a fuss if one joined. Otherwise, I think I've passed up less than 1/3 of the team invites because there was already a DP on the team (I mostly play heroes). And, of course, when I run a team, DPs and DSs aren't invited - and, just to make it fair, (especially since I usually run "no tanker/no scrapper" teams) I've been running "no blaster/no defender" teams instead. (sure I'll let a blaster or defender join if they send a tell or are a friend of someone on the team, but only if they aren't Dual Pistols).
I swore the oath.
I'll stand by it.
There are a lot of us that are still REALLY hurting because of the economic down turn. Anyone that mocks people because they are poor are jerks.
I'll stand by that as well.
I also stand by the fact that the more sales that go through stores will give stores more of an incentive to "face" product in their stores. I want to see a CoH presence in GameStops. One way to make sure is to purchase the game through a store and not a website. -
I hope to see that CoH will be getting product-facing in GameStops. From the website "exposure", it doesn't look like much "exposure" at this point. I'll probably head to a GameStop and check out what I see and post again.
Exposure/Critique
Nothing on the GameStop main page.
Nothing on the GameStop main PC page.
Not listed in the "with bonus" selections for PC games.
Listed on Page 5 by Release Date with no date listed.
GR does make position 3 under PC>Roleplaying>Massively Mulitplayer (under WoW and StarTrek, and just above Aion). You have to know what you are looking for to get there.
And here's the actual game page from the site :: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Prod...oduct_id=77978
Screen Shots make the game look empty. We need some shots of group battles and Rikti raids. It's nice that they are showing new content, but the shots need to be of new content with full teams.
The Notice section needs to be clear that the information outlined is for the "super booster" as this implies what is with the game and this seems it is very limited what comes with the game.
The "Bonus Details" link doesn't work for me. (EDIT :: oh, that's the mousepad. Don't make much sense unless you know that it is a mousepad. Nothing to indicate that is what it is.)
The Box Cover Art leaves something to be desired to me. After all this time, I would assume it was clear to the people that play this game - if not the DEVs - that the game is about the characters that we make and not about the "signature characters" that we can't play. The game box showing Statesman and Clone-of-Statesman standing back to back like they are defending each other is very fitting for the traitorous Statesman. However, this doesn't express what players will experience in the game. It certainly has no meaning to anyone that isn't familiar with the game. It doesn't express anything heroic or villainous - just cosplay. The cover isn't going to attract attention and I have fear that it will blend in on the shelf. It isn't that the art is bad - it just isn't taking much from the thousands of comic book covers that it could be using for research material. (and I'm not just talking about max-slidered women in "with skin" top - I mean - holy socks! - look at your audience! Two out of two "heroes" are men? Not very much like the composition of the City that I run in around in every day.)
I hope to see more stores carrying and promoting the game.
I'm looking forward to a flux of new players into the game interested in exploring the new content. -
Quote:I don't want to make you look bad by agreeing with you, Zombie Man, but I agree with that."Rep was meant to be a forum game."
Translate: "Anonymously criticizing people because you disagree with them was meant to be a forum game."
That is so wrong on so many levels. My respect for the Mods dropped a lot when they left the rep system on precisely because it was so divisive and exploitative and encouraged mean-spiritedness and rewarded ignorance.
----
Here starts the general reply to the thread and not Zombie Man's post
----
The kind of people that exploit in the game were the first ones to exploit the Rep system by starting "Power-level your Rep" threads. They then went around and used their High-Rep-power to "denounce others" often accompanied by some asinine comment that wasn't to the point, but was just an personal insult. I've come close to having death-threats attached to neg rep votes. It doesn't show that these people are respected, just that they know how to manipulate the rules.
The higher the Rep of the person that neg reps you - the more their vote neg reps you.
Vote to neg rep someone with a high positive rep, and you may end up getting a huge neg rep hit, if it bounce off them, while they barely get lowered if you have a low or negative rep.
So guess who the exploiters were most likely to denounce (aka neg rep into the Stone Age)?
Anyone that stood up against their exploitation.
Of course, all of this started when the AE came out and it was so full of exploit holes that it drew in the vermin.
The forums were much different before then, as far my experience is concerned. There were debates, but everyone was relatively civil.
Once the "AE Babies" were on the block, the friendly, helpful players were all of a sudden getting jumped by jerks in the forums. There weren't debates any more, there was massive neg-rep-ing with insult comments and "You're a jerk. You are wrong" posts (and that's to put it lightly). The kind of people that would exploit the rep system were the same people that would exploit in the game. They didn't come here to play a superhero game; they came to "dominate" through exploitation. In the end, it just shows that they are jerks as well as cheaters.
In the end, this is about a game with a world-view of comics. For the most part, there is a stark divide between what is good and what is evil. Real super heroes and/or villains stand out because of what makes them separate and individual from the rest of the world around them and not what makes them blend in.
Mini-maxing, power-leveling, and farming are not methods of exploring the game or finding uniqueness, they are about becoming the standard and ordinary. You can't explore the system if you are just trying to break it to get the best advantage out of it. You aren't exploring the game and challenging yourself as a hero or villain if you are running the same content repeatedly or being PL'd to what you assume is "greatness".
If you can't take the time to enjoy the content without needing to exploit it or break it, you are robbing yourself of the wonderment of finding something cool or learning to manipulate what you have into something more powerful than others thought possible.
I'm going to stand up for what I think is right and that means that some people will want to strike me down. That's not okay with me, but that's life.
In the end, my comments on the forums reach the eyes of those that end up making a real impact on what happens in the game. If I didn't know that was a fact, I would have let the bullies chase me away a long time ago.
The Rep System should have been shut-off; it needs to be shut off.
It is insulting that the system is still operational as it is mostly used by bullies.
Those that toe-the-line and play nicey-nice with the jerks don't have much "street cred" with me either.
I'm going to go play the real GAME part of the GAME now ... where frankly, by-and-large, the kind of jerks that would/have neg rep me here have no influence whatsoever to my game-play as they are just as cliquish in-game as they are here in the forums and I probably already have them on /gignore at any rate. So their negativity and High-Reps are meaningless in the larger scheme of things...
.... like the actual game. -

Would pre-purchases of GR account for the $1,100,000 difference between the estimated subscriber numbers and the actual revenue (can't convince myself that the booster pack theory holds any water)? Or is that 40,000 estimate just... well, bat-poo crazy?
It seems like sheer speculation to me. If that is the case, it is not news or information. It's just a guess. And possibly one to irate CoH fans so that they will post comments.
I have seen quite a lot of this kind of behavior going on.
That is to say, these supposed MMO news sites that are filled with articles speculating things that aren't true or just plain posting articles that are completely erroneous just to cause reader feedback to occur.
It seems pretty common in our society now. It makes the writers look good to get feedback - regardless if it is good or bad feedback - and regardless of what the writer has posted involves legitimate information at all.
So either THEY(tm) are trying to "black ball" CoH through misinformation, they are just plain ignorant, poorly researching their subject matter, or fishing for feedback.
THEY(tm) are spreading misinformation.
If NCSoft isn't posting numbers, then it is all speculation.
If COH::GR can get some good product-facing in stores ... I certainly hope it get some facing in stores.
Anyone want to buy a CoH signature character standee?
These things could be good for store promotions, conventions, etc. Let alone the crazed CoH fans for whatever use that could come to their minds?!
Here's an example of the Boba Fett standee. For a while this was the best selling standee of all time.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P1JWD0/?tag=hashemian-20
Standees are probably "print on demand" at this point.
PS - Just another idea for the DEVs there. I'm not selling the things. It's just an idea, and I am pretty sure there would be people that would buy them. I'm sure that a row of heroes/villains standing up behind the table at a convention would draw some attention.
I seriously think something needs to be done to bring in new players. -
This is two suggestions.
Monitor XP in AE missions
By keeping track of XP earned in an AE mission and relating it to the XP earned by defeating the same number of foes of the same level in a normal Mission. It should be pretty easy to gauge who's intentionally exploiting the system.
Once an exploit has been located - lock the AE arc and any characters that are in the mission until the situation can be investigated.
Once it is determined if exploitation has occurred, proper action can be taken to resolve the situation.
XP Curve for AE Arc Length
If the AE is really designed for story-telling, then it should be obvious that a 1 mission arc isn't telling a story.
I, honestly, don't think any XP should be rewarded for a 1 mission arc; it isn't an arc - it's just one mission. One mission arcs are going to be primarily farming arcs as anyone that wants to tell a story is going to have more than one mission in their arc (especially now that these can be much larger files than they once were).
In order to promote story-telling, I think that there should be an XP Curve where a 5 mission arc grants full XP and XP decreases as arcs get shorter. As I said, I don't think one mission arcs deserve any xp at all - as it is not a story; it's just one mission.
[Disclaimer :: I'm not going to argue with posters I have on ignore. I'm not going to argue at all. I've made my points. If you are an exploiter, go ahead and make it clear you are exploiting the game so that the DEVs can take action against you. Thanks.] -
I'm on the East Coast of the US, but I have to say, that the whole reason that I came to this thread is that it looked like the European player-base wasn't even mentioned.
The people "over there across the pond" are often a bit left in the cold. Being as I'm on the East Coast and seeing the 3 of the 5 events aren't even outside of California!, I just had to say that the European gang deserve a little love too.
And, if it took going to Boston, MA and talking to people there to find out the reasons more people didn't/couldn't go to Hero-Cons, I have to say - shame on you DEVs! READ THE FORUMS!
There has been plenty of discussion on the barriers of getting to Hero-Con in the forums in past years. Yeah, yearS - plural.
But I'm guess I should be glad that the point has finally gotten across...
....at least partially....
....apparently, they didn't talk to you (because this was brought up in the forums and actual people talking to you seem more real or something...I guess that's a sociological thing...) about part of the reason that we think you should be making an appearence at more conventions is to increase the player base.
CoH has zero exposure outside of the web. In the web, CoH's exposure is limited.
The local GameStop employee said "Is that game still around?" when I asked them about CoH:GR. No CoH on the shelves. You'd figure AE Edition or Mac Edition, at least, would still be around if WoW is still on the shelves. I can't believe that there is Champions Online store facing and no CoH of any kind in sight!
CoH needs exposure. Cons are a great way to do it (as it hits the market that is most likely to play the game). All the DEVs need not show. Even one would make the "bill" on most convention flyers - and that in-itself is advertizing.
I'm assuming going to a Con or 5 is cheaper that putting an ad in comics again - which would also be hitting the "target" market ... and hasn't been seen for a very long time.
Any doom to be had for CoH is directly marketing/advertizing related. I love CoH, it is a great game. Too bad it is getting lost in the shuffle.
...oh, well....I guess... getting back to the main point...
We got our one appearance of the DEVS this year in the states outside of Cali.
The European players deserve some DEV love too.
[PS. if it has to be in the States, my vote goes to DragonCon.] -
Always keep the names of macros short (3-5 characters)
Gotta love a heal that any character can use. This one quite simply activates green insps. If you are keyboarding, this might not be so handy. I, however, play CoH with a Logitech Dual Action gamepad (think PS2 controller). This is incredibly useful when you don't want to touch the keyboard unless you have to.
/macro heal "inspexec_name respite"
Then edit and paste this on the end
$$inspexec_name "dramatic improvement"$$inspexec_name "dramatic improvement"

Here's some short cut macro bits for costume changes. Some costume changes require Super Boosters and/or unlocking. They change your costume with costume change emote so that your costume change is smooth. Basic context is
/macro name "cce # CCchange"
where name = display name in tray, # = the costume slot (starting with the first one being 0 instead of 1 and counting up from there) of the custom you want to change into, and change=name of the costume-change/emote.
I like naming the costume macros with a name for the costume that the character will the changing into, for example Suit, Anime, Wolf, etc.
Parts are pre-arranged below for cutting and pasting into the chat entry line or macro-edit window.
I already had these pre-made so I can cut-and-paste parts in on the fly.
Flash bomb
/macro CCC "cce # CCCast"
cce # CCCast cce 0 CCCast cce 1 CCCast cce 2 CCCast
Spinning change
/macro SCC "cce # CCSpin"
cce # CCSpin cce 0 CCSpin cce 1 CCSpin cce 2 CCSpin
Lighting bolt Change
/macro LCC "cce # CCLightning"
cce # CCLightning cce 0 CCLightning cce 1 CCLightning cce 2 CCLightning
cce 3 CCLightning
Smoke Bomb
/macro PCC "cce # CCPrestoChango"
cce # CCPrestoChango cce 0 CCPrestoChango cce 1 CCPrestoChango cce 2 CCPrestoChango
DrJeckyl/Mr Hyde
/macro PCC "cce # CCdrinkformula"
cce # CCdrinkformula cce 0 CCdrinkformula cce 1 CCdrinkformula cce 2 CCdrinkformula
Injection
/macro PCC "cce # CCsuperserum"
cce # CCsuperserum cce 0 CCsuperserum cce 1 CCsuperserum cce 2 CCsuperserum cce 3 CCsuperserum
cce # CCBackflip
cce # CCSalute
cce # CCHowl
cce # CCEvilLaugh
cce # CCPeacebringer
cce # CCWarshade
cce # CCVanguardSigil
Spice it up with a yell!
/macro C1 "cce 1 CCLightning$$local Lightning strikes!"
---------------
And a great team recruiting tool. Open your search window, click on someone you would like to join your team, and hit this macro. It automatically sends them a tell asking if they want an invite - and it includes your level!
I call this one SFT aka Search For Team.
/macro SFT "t $target, Hello. I'm running a level $level mission team. Would you like to join us?"
For more direct flavor spice it up!
/macro SFT "t $target, Greeting. Would join a butt-kicking team of unstoppable heroes running level $level missions?"
Or more specific!
/macro SFT "t $target, Hello. Would you like to join a level $level team running missions in Striga?"
And for when you are recruiting below level 15!
/macro SFT "t $target, Hello. Would you like to join a level $level mission team? (if on a trial type:: /hc I'll join)"
When the trial account user types /hc I'll join - it comes up on the [Help] channel as I'll join. No one else will know what they are talking about, but you'll know that they are ready for an invite.
Anyone can use the [Help] channel, but many people don't know that you need to use /hc to chat on the [Help] channel.
(I miss those days when it was /help, that made so much more sense in context with the rest of the game)
If you are recruiting for someone else just put their level in where the X is on this one::
/macro MFT "t $target, Hello. I'm recruiting for a level X mission team. Would you like to join us?"
------
Special tip for Alt-jumpers!
Make a NotePad file and save all the macros that you use over and over again!
When you make a new alt, you won't have to type everything in all over again. Just copy from the Notepad file, and paste it to the chat line of your new character!
Saves tons of time.
I always load up the heal macro and tray-flip macros when I first start a new Alt.

Quote:Taunt doesn't require a "to hit" check vs enemies. The only problem is the Behemoth's aren't keeping targeted the tank. They drop aggro frequently and start attacking everything at random running all over the place. And no there were not a lot of MM's surrounding it, this was when there was no MM's in there at all. Can't kill something you can only hit 1/20 times for only 5 damage.
I'm assuming you are talking about a Tank that DOESN'T have Taunt. -
They are like candy to me.
Eat your candy.
This kind of candy may not go stale, but you can't enjoy the taste of it when you aren't eating (using) it.
I usually stock my insp tray with a column of break-frees (if I'm playing a non-mez resistant character), a column of rez-es (usually given to teammates), and a bunch of heals (respites and what not). If a character is having end issues, I'll stock a column full of blues.
I have a macro set-up to trigger the heals; I play the game with a Logotech Dual-action game pad.
Stacking pre-set "plans" in columns can help when a crazy assortment is in a tray. I'll set up a column with a red on the bottom and a yellow on top of it. They yellow will still be active for a little bit longer than the red. Then I can just hit the F# twice and be powered up a bit when I head into a boss battle or some such.
But, yeah, eat your candy.
It just make room for more, and it can help earn xp faster, stop you from falling in battle, or reviving you so you can avoid a long trip back from the hospital or cause one of your allies to use a rez that might be better used mid-battle. -
Quote:I think that's probably part of the main point of these threads, Memphis_Bill.....we had someone here saying, on a sunday IIRC, that they couldn't get a team on Freedom redside.
When it comes down to it, we will find that many of the people that want a server merger are actually playing on Freedom.
Honestly, - for a while now - I don't want to team with the kind of players that tend to be on Freedom. The other servers tend not to have the kind of player that I do not want to team with on Freedom. This is reason enough for me not to want the servers merged; I don't want to play on Freedom.
The fact that I really don't want to play on Freedom because of the kind of players that seem to frequent it really sucks. I have a good sized sg and vg over there. I have a server full of characters -- heroes ranging from level 20 to level 42 and villains ranging from level 19 to level 46 -- that I just log in for log-in badge events and sg/vg maintenance. (Hopefully, one day, Freedom will settle back down to just being a highly-populated server versus a Server highly-populated with exploiters and RMT'rs.)
If someone can't find a team on Freedom, they have to be completely obnoxious in one way or another. And, even then, only if they didn't try blind invite everyone on the server while they had a mission-up ready-to-go.
Seriously, if you can't find a team on Freedom, it's your own fault. DO NOT try drag the rest of us in to that cluster because you can't play nice.
Heck, I'm known for my attitudes toward what Freedom has become and I had countless blind invites (and some invites with tells first! "On Freedom!?" *gasp*).
If you can't find a team - check the threads on
- How to find teams
- How to start a team
- Using Teaming Tools
Server merger is not the answer to not being able to find a team.
Server merger is a sign of a game dying.

Quote:Welcome!I played CO for awhile and liked the idea behind it and wish the gameplay had been better. Doing the most logical thing I explore its counter part COH. Low and behold I find a wellspring of awesome in a home I now call Virtue server.
(CO sucked... got bored.. got COH on a good sale and decided to test it out. Gameplay is more consistant. I am a roleplayer and find this game suits RP better.)
I'm glad that you escaped from that failed experiment.
On one level, I wish it really had been "Champions the RPG" Online. But it wasn't in the most real sense - the game mechanics. On the other hand, if it really had been "Champions the RPG" Online, I would have had a very hard decision to make - because CoH just rocks so hard!
So welcome to the ORIGINAL Super MMORPG!
Since you are an RP'r, I can only hope you take great joy in all the cool emotes that the DEVs have given us.
Good luck and good hunting out there in the City!
PS - Don't forget to tell your friends that haven't tried out CoH yet that they can get a free trial (no credit card required. no obligation) here:
http://www.cityofheroes.com/trial/index.html
There are limits to a trial account, but, once they get the taste of that super hero-y goodness, I'm sure that they will want to join in the fun! -
Quote:Possibly the Gaussian +Rech/End IO looks worthless, it gets deleted more than say a LotG +Rech or a anti-KB IO?
Imagining I'm a casual player (ie someone who doesn't read this forum and Red Tomax or Paragon Wiki several times a day) if I got a Gaussian's +Rech/End I'd probably think "Oh, its one of those set-fillers like a Resistance set's Rech/End, ie it doesnt contribute to the primary attribute of the power type. I'll delete or vendor it". Kind of like when you do a random roll and get a snipe or something.
I find that people deleting Snipe and "To hit" set IOs a bit silly. Just because you couldn't use them doesn't mean that it isn't highly likely that you know someone that can.
Snipes might just be for Blasters, Corruptors, and Defenders, but I can guess that anyone that is playing this game has probably come in contact with one of these archetypes - possibly even every time they play .... unless they only solo.
A "to hit' can be used by almost any archetype (dependent on their power picks). I'm assuming that because nearly all players can slot them - will make it harder to find in the market (since people making them are probably keeping them for their own use or trading/giving them to someone they know or sg with).
I have a feeling that Sleeps IO-sets are getting deleted quite a bit by team players. I think we all know by now how using Mass Hypnosis is like yelling "Use all your AoE attacks and wake them up now!!"
Villains have a market that is scarce in general. What villains find they will often keep for their own use. Some may not feel like it is worth their villainous time to craft something that could be possible for someone else - they will, however, snatch up whatever they can find on the market as quickly as possible.
(Yet another group of reasons why I don't want to see the markets merged. My heroes have no want to craft items that may end up in the hands of villains. My villains, on the other hand, are more than willing to take advantage of other villains that will "snatch up whatever they can find on the markets as quickly as possible" for whatever I care to price the items!) -
Quote:I agree on this. This reminds me of Windows Vista, or the changes to recent versions of Word.
The old interface worked fine for me, the new one's clunkier and uglier.
I don't see how hard it would have been to do some tweaking to the old interface to allow it to:
- Keep persistent bid amounts
- show salvage you need for a recipe
- show recipes for salvage you have.
What the new interface accomplished:
- Keep persistent bid amounts
- show salvage you need for a recipe
- show recipes for salvage you have.
- annoyed a lot of players
- made it harder to find non-IO set enhances
- made it harder to find non-IO set recipes
- made it impossible to see everything you had going on in the market at once.
- changed the radio buttons for showing sell and buy so that when selecting both button it is now shows "has items for sale AND has bids for item" (instead of "has items for sale and/or has bids for items" as it did previously)
