How to make my Stone/Stone playable.

Come Undone

So! One of the very first toons I've ever created was a lovable stone/stone tanker. I enjoyed playing him but once he hit 32 he sort of became unplayable for me in certain ways. Getting him to 32 was also great because he had a partner with Speed Boost who he always played with. It's a couple years later and I'd like to try to play him again so I need some help on making him more playable. I'm not sure which IOs he'd require to make him not as slow attacking and moving and being able to play him alone without a partner who has speed boost. Thank you very much in advance.

Granite Armor is the ultimate survivability power. If you are using it to solo, expect major recharge and damage penalties to cause you to kill slowly. Being the best at surviving has its disadvantages. Eventually, when you can afford IO sets, you may want to slot yourself with run speed bonuses and global recharge bonuses. That will help alleviate the penalties of fighting in Granite Armor.

I suggest that you make two builds. Talk to a trainer to learn how to use multiple builds. Your first build should be one that you take all of the armor powers, except maybe Granite. Use that build for leveling up, soloing, and exemplaring below Granite Armor. Use your second build to focus completely on Granite Armor. You can skip, or not fully slot your other armor powers. You may want to take a couple for use as Luck of the Gambler mules, but slotting them for regular use will make it harder to slot your entire build.

See one of my other posts in Stone Tanker threads if you need a basic Granite Armor build. There have been several requests for Stone Tanker help in the past week and I don't feel like re-posting the build.

Teleport Self.
I only have one stone tanker, but, it seems that if you don't have a SB'r around, Teleport Self is the way to go.

I definatley wouldn't forsake your anti-mez power for the sake of mobility.

Thanks. I forgot to mention this. I thought every Stone Tanker automatically knew that Teleport was mandatory.

I hope you're being sarcastic here, because my stone tank didn't take Teleport until level 49. Instead, I used a variety of runspeed IOs to increase my mobility.

I was somewhat serious. IO sets are getting harder to afford for new players. The ones that have run speed in them seem to be especially expensive lately. Also, run speed doesn't do you any good if you have to get over a 3-foot wall that most other players can jump over.

Something that should be mentioned is that if you 3-slot Swift with level 50 IOs, it almost completely negates the run speed penalty of Granite Armor. Set bonuses after that just improve the running speed with Rooted + Granite on.

So you're trying to tell us that we don't need to take it...by telling us that you took it anyhow?

Oh sweet irony!

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I consider TP manditory for my stoners not because I'm too slow to run from mob to mob ( I'm not, at least when not combining rooted and granite) but because I don't like having to turn off my mez protection every time I encounter a step, curb, or divit. =/

Namely because you guys would want to color tint the damn doves, or make them hawks/ravens/flying sharks/etc and that's just a headache I do...not...want...to deal with.

I 2 slotted swift and took about every run speed IO out there. lol. My Granite runs at aprox 25mph in Granite. With the Alpha slot going to recharge, theres really no need for teleport. The only thing lacking is damage. But, my Stone is SS so perma rage gives 55% damage boost instead of 85%. So, all in all, i can play in Granite every minute and not feel any set backs.
