I realize that you're likely engaging in a bit of hyperbole to make a point, but in all honesty this quote is EXACTLY why I love to play tankers.
-
Quote:The difference is only negligible when fighting easy spawns. In situations where a survival-built IO'd Tanker is really struggling (trying to solo +4/x8 Vanguard Sword, for example) a survival-built IO'd Brute is going to be paying for a new wing at the hospital.Because you've mentionned that brutes (and to a lesser extend scrappers) could be too fragile for some people. But brutes and tankers have the same caps and with IOs, the difference becomes almost inexistant.
From there, yeah i moved on and talked mostly of Fire_minded's theory, because it's the one case where there's really a huge difference in tanker/scrapper survivability.
I love my Brutes for their SMASH, I love my Scrappers for being walking threshing machines and I love my Tankers for being able to go through hell and pound the living crap out of everything along the way -
Quote:I don't know why you quoted me in your response, you seem to be discussing something unrelated to my point. I made no mention of build specifics or IO use. Did you assume I was ruling them out?Still somewhat doubtfull. Most people who'll want extreme situation, won't be scared to use IOs. The huge part of Fire_Minded's theory about tanker being superior is because he insist on using only SOs.
But really, it's your problem if you purposfully ignore some of the tools at your disposal. Specialy considering that even very casual player can get better % and bonuses to boot, from the good but cheap sets.
I can submit that a brute will easily outdamage a tanker (even over time, with the tanking taken into account), if you don't use any enhancements. Tankers will be stuck at +0% damage bonus, while brutes have 160% and more easily. -
My point is that there are always going to be some people who find Brutes (like Scrappers) to be too fragile for their play style.
-
Quote:Do scrappers solo AVs and Pylons because it's the best way to generate influence?Soloing +4s for anything other than a party trick is untenable. They give bucketloads of inf but for inf generation you're much better off with +2s or +3s.
Also Dispari has the right of it. A Tanker would take years to solo a +4x8 spawn, even a high damage combo like Fire/SS or SD/SS. -
Quote:So you can solo at +4/x8 instead?Yeah, I have a couple brutes who can solo on +2/x8, and can hit the aggro cap. They don't need to be any more durable than that, because no more enemies than that will ever attack them. If my Brutes can hit aggro cap at +2/x8, and does more damage than a Tanker, why would I want to play a Tanker?

My Inv/SS is getting 45.8hp/s and has 2874 Health. With Dull Pain active it goes up to 52.1hp/s from the extra 338 Health.
-
Taunt is a crutch to support bad team members that don't know how to handle themselves in a fight. Aggro is a team responsibility.

I've acquired:
Ebil Marketeer
Naturally I'll be selling it for one beellion influence. -
They were good before. They're better now. I'd drop Unstoppable before any of the passives on my Inv/ or /Inv builds.
-
Don't skip the passives if you haven't run an Inv tank before, you'll never know what you're missing. RPE and RPEl each account for ~18% of your net non-S/L mitigation. Soft-capped or not that's a significant amount.

Why the microfilament in hurdle? There's no end cost to hurdle.

If he took that out it would only be a 3,950,000,000 Influence build. Duh. -
6-slot Health:
Numina +Regen/Recovery, Numina Heal, Numina Heal/End
Miracle +Recovery, Miracle Heal

Are you serious or just kidding?

Okay here's a serious comment:
If brutes have enough team buffs they can survive as well as tankers, but tankers let you bring more blasters instead.
Seems like a wash to me. -

Tanker. Brutes are just another squishy AT.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pfft- tell that to all defender/corruptor/controller/dominator superteams that roll through content with speed and safety that would make both tanks and brutes sad. I think that is the tanker mentality that turns off a few players from all over. The tank is not the hub of the team, and it is not needed for any team to be successful. The only element a team needs to survive is an inherent that many players in the game have across the board: strategy and intelligence.
With that said; it is a fact that a brute can achieve the same mitigation cap that a tank can, so your statement won't mean much if a brute has just a couple of buffs tossed his way. He will be as capable a meat shield as a tank while dealing damage a tank would never be able to touch.
And please don't dismiss the effect of outside buffs in this particular discussion, because the question deals explicitly with teams. In teams, there is a very high likelihood buffs will be had.

Sounds like a buncha squishy-talk to me. -
The Video RAM available doubles from 128MB at 1GB of RAM to 256MB at 2GB of RAM. 4GB of RAM also yields 256MB of Video RAM.

Can you let us know if there will be significant hardware requirement increases with the new expansion?
-
It's a highly subjective experience. One person's "fine" is another's "unplayable", but I tend to be nitpicky about smooth graphics.
I can tell you that I'm quite satisfied with it's performance in CoH, except for the odd laggy bits since i14. In missions it's very smooth, and the only time I get lag in zones is near AE buildings. Some bases are a little laggy too.
I'm running a 22" monitor though, which probably stresses the chipset a little with the graphics load, even when playing in a 1280x1024 window. I know when I play on my Macbook (identical hardware, but a smaller screen) I don't notice any lag at all.
I generally play on the Performance setting on both machines since i14. -
The model you're talking about is the one I have. 2.0GHz, 2GB, 320GB.
It came with a DVI adapter in the box, so you shouldn't need to buy one.
As a general home computer I have been very pleased with it so far.
Good luck and happy computing -

I've been running it on a 2009 Mini (2GB, 320GB) and it's been performing just fine for me (though a little laggy since i14).
Since the mini I have and the alu macbooks have the same specs I would guess they'd be about the same. -

We're still here after three-plus years and lots of good times and good friends. Right now we have a small core membership but we're opening the door to new blood.
We have no rules beyond simply treating each other with respect and representing the group well. We don't have any activity minimums, membership limits or prestige requirements. We have a complete base and more prestige than we'll likely ever need.
If you're looking for a group that runs nightly TFs or has teams running 24/7, we're probably not for you. If you mostly do your own thing but like to have a small but stable group around when you need one, we might be what you're looking for.
If you're interested in getting to know us PM me or send me a tell in-game. We'll have a few laughs, get some debt and see how it works out.

Street sweeping in Steel Canyon yielded about 35 average FPS but it varied widely depending on how much scenery was onscreen. A radio mission on the office map also gave about 35 average FPS.
Flying around Cap Au Diable averaged about 20 FPS with the same wide variance depending on scope of scenery as in Steel. Running a newspaper mission in the warehouse map seemed to average about 35 fps.
Grandville and the Arachnos Lab mission map are painful even when I lower the settings to Performance.
After significantly more playing time I can safely say that although the 9400M gives a solid performance it's running at the ragged edge of it's envelope in CoH (particularly red-side). All in all I'm happy to use my new Mini as my main CoX machine, but I don't mind running the game below max settings or with frame rates averaging in the low 30's. Anyone looking for better performance than this would probably not be happy with the 9400M.
