1) They really need to up the costume creator and add a ton to it as well as more back options. CO just blew this costume creator out of the water.
2) Many new ATs. Original ATs and not just variations of what we have.
3) All new mission maps. I have never seen so much regurgitation of the same thing. Honestly. They may have hundreds of maps but they are all slight variations of the same thing. Less than 10 different looks really. It makes me ill and the main reason I take large breaks from this game.
4) End game content.
5) Innovative and new game play. I have just come back to this game again and it got boring quick. -
Looks like an early start to 2XP. I am predicting we will not have any problems getting on to any servers. Seems like this game is really hurting for numbers right now. I hope I'm wrong but the player pop. was at an all time low (in my 21 months here).
-
The new giant monsters are just the old giant monsters? It'd be cool if they were new and there was a bit of a new look. This event is pretty tired and needs something new. The Winter's Event also needs a new look.
-
I hope this is significantly different than before. The Halloween and X-Mas events have become very old and tired now. Slight twists don't really make them better.

Quote:This was one of the front page news items in September. You can probably still find it.
I, and I think many others, are as starved for info as you are. However, the forum community as a whole has proven unable to handle new information too far out. If the Devs announce something too far out, and it doesn't materialize exactly the way they initially promoted, or on schedule, or at all, we take them to task for it, and never let them forget it. We create these wild conspiracy theories about bait & switch or how the Devs are purposely trying to kill the game. As a group, it is almost impossible for us to keep a level head about, well, anything.
This is why we didn't know Power Customization was coming until July, despite the fact that they had been working on it since May of 2008. Even then, we complain incessantly about how EATs and Power Pools were left out of the Customization, regardless of the fact that we were told in the initial announcement which powersets were getting customized, and the first Q&A about it told us that Power Pools and APP/PPP are next to be worked on.
Add into this already guarded mindset that City of Heroes now has competition. They now need to play their cards even closer to the vest so that the competition can't rush out some comparable feature just to claim they had it first.
My guess is that we might see some trickle of information in the next two weeks, and expect a major bomb to drop at HeroCon.
I agree with most of this post but you can't lump in the community as a whole. Most adults here would realize things change and don't cry bloody murder when things aren't delivered. However, some do and I have seen it on here. I can't blame the DEVS for keeping things quiet but it is a big deal and some info should be released. Looks like Hero Con will do that.
I also really doubt the DEVS are trying to ruin this game in any way. We may disagree with some moves but it is, in their eyes, for the betterment of the game. I can take that leap of faith. Lots of stuff they do frustrates me but you can't please all the people all the time.
Lastly, it seems GR will not be on sale for X-Mas. I think that is a huge mistake. That is the big shopping season. This should have been a priority. I find it very odd they have just missed the X-Mas season 2 years in a row (last year's MAC pack and, more than likely, GR this year). Anyway, maybe they will put it out by X-Mas...we just never know -
I really hope it is something different. I can't stand that stuff anymore. If I stick around I am hoping X-Mas event is diff too!
-
So they're building for something grand? Well, maybe that grand should get here before everyone leaves? lol Give me a break.

Quote:I play on the NA servers and it is kinda dead these days too. All are light loads all the time. Freedom and Virtue all show light where they used to show medium loads until Sept. So, the game is losing players and anyone saying otherwise is an idiot. The following are all [ok mostly!] true facts.
- The EU playerbase numbers are NOTHING compared to the US.
- Our entire server list peak time numbers barely reach half of freedoms peak time numbers.
- A large majority of EU players have said at least once that numbers are low and would like the opportunity to transfer their account to the US server list.
- A large majority of EU players however also say that they like the community feel that the EU playerbase has [in that we all mostly know eachother].
- Us EU players do sometimes fall into the trap that our entire playerbase are part of the main global channels such as sals/defiant events/etc where the majority of events are organised.
- We have a very wierd sense of humour.
I do think it might be cool if they just added the Euro servers to ours and gave the players the option. If I was in Europe and played in on those server, I would contemplate quitting too. Nobody plays an MMO to solo almost all the time (well, I wouldn't think). Maybe NC Soft will give you the option to transfer your account to the NA servers one the EU servers are almost shut down. Might be sooner than you think.
Lastly, I love the class of the jerk-offs with the rude replies. Way to add to the game and make your fellow CoH'ers feel welcome. You guys need to grow up. -
The early TFs need to be redone. In particular Posi and Synapse. Going though the same thing over and over is dumb and dull. It is repetition defined. It really stinks. I refuse to do these anymore. Epic dull.

Quote:My thoughts in a nutshell: Meh.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good add-on, and much needed. However after playing for a few weeks on another [not to be named] super hero MMO, it's too little too late. And no I am not leaving CoH, I love this community, and as long as it's here, I will maintain a presence.
Specifically, after over 5 years of asking for it, we finally got the changes to the animations of Super strength, so that a "punch" actually looks like a punch, and a "haymaker" looks like an haymaker. And I love the ground punch animation for Footstomp. However, in that other game's super strength, it's just soo much more. More powerfull looking, more powerfull feeling. Knockback that does additional damage. I could go on, but not here.
I am looking forward to GR though, that should be very fun. I guess after 5+ years of almost continous play here, I need a break from it, a change of pace.
I agree with most of this. I logged on, played with colors, checked the new power prolif etc. It is a nice issue but another issue that didn't really provide us with much new stuff to do. It seems the quick and easy is to re-hash old missions. They have done it so often and it was one of the reasons I took a break. I think I might be staying away until GR. This issue has a lot of cool stuff but the game has stagnated and just looks old now.
I don't mind the graphics too much here. I just want quality and not quantity.
Also, is it just me or have there been very few people logging on lately? It seems the numbers are down. I can't find the subscriber numbers on the NC Soft site. Anyone have this link? -
Yes, a very nice issue with lots of QoL adds. Lots of cool stuff and now maybe AE will not be a farmer's haven.
Unfortunately, they didn't add anything to really do in game. I logged on and changed a few colors, ran around and it's pretty much same old, same old. Ah well. I guess these types of changes are easier and quicker. Who knows. -
Quote:Oh I love a good debate and it doesn't make me unhappy at all. Honestly. I like many aspects of this game and hope to see it evolve. I am sure i16 will be cool but I think it should've been a lower priority...that is all.Yes your opinion and feel free to post it. But you keep singing the same song and looks like many have the opposite opinion; I personally can not wait for I16....the last 3 issues were meh. So do not be surprise that your posts keep getting picked on and if your not happy you can always leave.
Anyway, I is amusing to see people try and challenge and attempt to change my opinion. I have a good idea of the game and I know what I would prefer. I really don't mind if others try to change my mind or challenge my posts. It's fun -
Quote:That's you opinion. Our opinion differ so you get over it. I will post what I like.Frankly this is a tired old argument, and irrelevant. It's a game... It's repetitive, get over it. Move on. Get some new friends, they are all over the world.
New content is a waste of my time and money. I'd rather the Devs spend the next two issues fixing all the outstanding QoL issues, or even just cutting my zone/door load times in half. It's what most of us waste most of our time on. And could someone please spend a weekend running the text strings through a freaking spell-checker? I'll give you more time for grammar. The Client could be re-written from the ground up too...
If they are serious obout MA, there should be a stand alone Mission Editor, and a stand alone Costume Editor. And more than 3 published Arcs. At the least 3 for each of my characters (do you want me to write a story or ignore MA?).
Whether there is or is not farming is also irrelevant. They pays their money they plays the game. End of story.
To bring this back to topic...
I actually did go to PAX on Saturday and had fun there and at the M&G. The billiards room at the Elephant & Castle was hot and sweaty and cramped, just like it was two years ago, and I am sure people who came late gave up for lack of room (we had 108 at Gordon Biersch last year).
I did mention some of my issues to Posi and Hero 1 and they were receptive, but who knows. -
Quote:Is there a difference between night and day?Are episodes of TV series any different if all they do is change the dialogue but keep the same sets and actors?
You watch TV episodes for 30 mins or 1 hour a week usually. I don't know any that really stagnate a ton but after a few seasons a show will often try to make a drastic change to keep interest alive. A season is maybe 24 shows? Let's use that number. So, if you watch a show 24 times in a season then it might not become stale so quick.
Let's shift focus to CoX, shall we? So, in a week how often do you play CoX? I play it, probably/approximately, 20 hours. After 19+ months, it gets a little tired and old. I joined just after i11 so I have seen:
November to May for an update.
I12: fairly light but the best TF in the game and VEATS. Great adds but not much else (QoL and costumes). They admitted it was going to be light.
May to approx Nov (?)
I13: Day Jobs - really?? Shields were nice and QoL. Day Jobs and the accompanying wardrobe were a gigantic fail as a feature to an issue. It isn't a bad feature but they can't highlight an issue. Also, they gave us nothing to do. I think this was also when a few very weak Cim missions were added. Yikes!
Nov(?) to April(?)
I14: MA - awesome tool but poorly implemented into the game. Very poorly.
I15: Did the TF once and the SF a few times. That was enough. The writing was weak and too much use of the same old tile sets/theme. I know some were new and there was sort of an epic feel but it seems they just missed it by a bit.
What I was hoping for were some new game dynamics (open world missions, more customization etc).
Then when you look at the content already in game, you see they just constantly use the same few tile sets over and over with the same characters. Gets less appealing when all the mobs look the same and in the same environment. I know a lot of this had to do with lesser staff etc - I am still here. However, I think many players are hoping they stop adding regurgitated missions and add something innovative to the game. I am not a fan of farming but find myself joining in because that is what most of the people are doing -
Quote:Well that's interesting.Any dev I spoke with was happy to talk Going Rogue if you just asked questions. I recieved info I'm very happy to have gotten. However, since it hasn't been made public-and I don't want anyone to get in trouble at work, I'm not discussing it, posting it, nor coloring it on the subway walls until there is an announcement w/ more details about G.R.
I didn't attend saturday as the topic didn't really intrest me.
i16 and Going Rogue are big game changers IMO-and for the better.
If you want to play an unfinished game aimed at console players then C.O. is for you and have fun. Otherwise I'll see ya in game.
For me, i16 does not bring any real changes that I am looking for. Sure, it makes changes to mission teams, color cust., mission spawns, another AE adjustment, power prolif so all ATs can become less unique etc etc. What they don't add is new game play, tile sets or systems where the player can log in and play something new.
Oh, and please, spare me the tons of content line. If it all looks the same is it really different if all they do is change the text? -
Hey way to add to the discussion. You're a rock star.
Yes, I know it was an MA panel but I thought SOMEWHERE over the weekend they could have discussed their boxed expansion. A timeframe for release, some more feature news...anything. GR is going to make or break this game for me so if it's just going to be more of the same old then I am happy to go out today and get CO. I would prefer to stay here but, lately, most of the issue updates have been just fluff. -
If you guys have time, give INVASION OF THE MONSTER MEN a try 224291. It is 1 mission, short and for any level (no autos). It is designed for heroes but not a big deal. Hope you enjoy.
-
No ROGUE news? That is really disappointing.
Honestly, I could care less about i16. Power prolif just causes the ATs to become a bit more alike. Colors are nice but not a priority. Ah well. -
You people in attendance must tell us all the ROGUE news! Must!
-
Yeah it's a new box so I am expecting a lot
-
No new info here at all. Kinda pointless to read but there ya go. Nice to see the game get some press.
The first 'post' made a good point when he noted missions are generic and repetitive (and not villainous). I have to agree. The missions on both sides are pretty much the same in appearance. It's rather sad and a cheap way to add more 'content'. The article notes CoX has 5 years worth of content...well...as the ag old saying goes: it's quality, not quantity. Sadly, I will have to wash my hands of this game if ROGUE adds more of the same old same old. -
ROGUE was announced months ago and still no info.
I am also hoping the new mission types are completely different. No more glowie hunts, caves, rescue lame NPC etc etc. I mean, the same objectives/ideas would be ok but I hope the mechanics are way different. -
Quote:Yeah, I don't have the time to go through all of the rubbish to find something fun to read/play. There are soooo many farms in there as well as really poor stories/missions. Honestly, when I said it was poorly implemented..well...I have to maintain that belief. I don't know why the DEVS allowed auto leveling and having minions auto your missions to higher levels. Why not make them like the regular missions from the start? The auto-level idea facilitated farming in a big way. Anyway, wrong thread to go on about this. I have more but don't want to add it hereAE has far from flopped. Do people use it to make farms? Absolutely. Is that all anyone does with it? Absolutely not. There are thousands, literally thousands, of actual STORIES people have made in the AE, and that are still accessible for you to play any time you want. There's a lifetime of missions in there. You could play AE every day, from now until the game dies, and I imagine you'd never run out of story arcs to play that are not farms, as more will be added while you're playing older ones.
They're not all the best mishes made, but some of them are great. Easily on par or better than developer created missions. And they're always something new. Farms are a sad offshoot of an otherwise great innovation in the game, that I'm constantly saddened by people disregarding as anything but a new exp tool. The AE people wanted is in there, and being used properly, you just have to look.
Anyway, I hope a new AT that they add in ROGUE would be some form of mech/armour type. With the crazy missile launchers, rockets, gadgets, etc. Maybe even have them shift forms (a new version of the Khelds). -
-
I am really hoping ROGUE has a number of features and here are some I am hoping for. Some have been confirmed, some vague and some I am hoping for:
1) New ATs. CoV had a bunch and so should ROGUE. Hopefully they are unique and make us say, "HEY! We haven't had anything like that!"
2) New mission maps. It seems CoV re-hashed all of the CoH mission maps (almost all). I pray these are all new maps. Using the old ones again will mean I am done here
3) New zones. A few NEW ones would be nice but we have so many already. Make the hazard zones co-op.
4) Side switching - about time.
5) End game stuff. I think it's coming?
6) New game innovations. Make some open missions, new ways to customize etc. AE was a great idea but poorly added and, so far, it has flopped. It is a farm creator - that's pretty much it.
7) Just keep the ideas new and fresh and not cosmetic. This game does way too much of the same old same old and recycles so many things. After 18 months it has worn me out - the repetition is brutal. I don't know how people lasted 5+ years.
Anyway, just the angle I hope they go with ROGUE.
