My work is done here!
*flies off into the sunset* -
I'm not sure if anyone's noticed, or if I'm Doing It Wrong, but the New Year's pack seems to have disappeared from the market, when the information on the official site says it's available until the 31st. What gives?
-
It's not terribly noticeable if you use the big gloves/boots like I've got on my luminous guy up there.

Quote:That's the Fire set... >_>Dare I say the one on the right looks more like ice than anything we got in this set...
Well, 'Fire and Snow' doesn't have quite the same ring to it, but I think they were trying to fill the hole in terms of style for the latter. -
The new sets look pretty good in the photos given by Paragon. Here's what they look like on my system:
Guess I'll keep waiting for this known graphics issue to be fixed. -
Let's get this ball rolling. The Tier 9 power for Darkness Control is either
1) A shadow clone with Darkness Control powers.
2) A zombie horde like Gang War.
Next? -

I meant, blade in one hand, gun in the other, living the dream. That sort of thing.

Quote:I'm not entirely sure if the current engine couldn't handle it. First of all, you'd have to populate the map with stuff that can be picked up. Basically, the entire map would become a mayhem/safeguard. Maybe not terribad in terms of graphic slowdown, since you can't exactly see the whole map at the same time anyway.I'm not sure they'd need to totally swap it out - it'd all depend on what exactly they wanted to do with any new engine, and if it could be done as an add-on/recoding of the current one.
For example, one of the most requested features that the curent engine cant's handle is to be able to pick up objects and throw them - but would that need a totally new engine, or could it be done with a major upgrade to the one we have now?
Second, you'd either have to adjust current powers or make a completely new power for any power set that you wanted to pick up the stuff...but suppose you were to try and turn, say, Hurl into this sort of power. What kind of input would be needed to tell your character to pick up that semi instead of chunking a piece of concrete from the ground at said semi at point blank range? Some sort of mode change like Dual Pistols? Whatever the answer is, the issue seems like a tricky hurdle.
You'd then have to have animations specifically for picking up/carrying/throwing that particular item, and also the correct item if you don't want to be called lazy: they come in all different shapes and sizes. In any case, I don't think this could be done in the same way that, say, Gordon Freeman picks up stuff with the Gravity Gun in HL2.
Then you'd have to consider another hurdle if you don't want every object to do the same amount of damage or have the same effects...say, a thrown parking meter versus a thrown semi that might explode. How would the game store that attack information on the object you've picked up? What if you didn't have a target to hurl it at, and wanted to set it down instead? Which powers would you not have access to while carrying that object? Would your available powers change depending on the object you were carrying, say, that parking meter versus that semi?
All of these issues might be solvable with the current engine, but it would take diligence, care, and time, and the cumulative amount involved would have to be weighed against the amount of value that object-chucking would add to the game. -
The bit mentioning the Rikti seems to be an opinion and desire formed by looking through nostalgia goggles. The only reason they've 'wound up on the sidelines' is because they were, as the author puts it, the historical big bads of the game's timeline. People waited for years for the other shoe to drop on the continued Rikti presence on Earth, and we got it with the second invasion, the end of which resolved the mystery of the first invasion and essentially the storyline we'd been introduced to since we first started playing the game.
In my opinion, an actual third Rikti invasion would be a gimmick and a poor way of bringing them back into a major storyline, especially since it would be more unfeasible now than ever since Hro'Dtohz is still trying to explain his actions to those on the Homeworld in light of the evidence of Nemesis' deception. The Rikti just aren't yesteryear's 'big boogeymen' any more whether you want them to be or not. I'm not sure why the author would want to see a third invasion unless he just wasn't impressed enough with the second and was hoping for more.
That's not to say the Rikti shouldn't appear again. [spoilz]If the new stuff that Prometheus says about Wells is true, then if the Battalion manages to gain control over the Well representing humanity via Primal Earth, the Rikti will become enslaved as well.[/spoilz] I think that'd be a cause for the Rikti to be concerned. -
Quote:Man, I've been waiting for a Blade/Gun Dominator secondary forever.-A more flexible power and AT system. Deadpool, Ironman. You can't do characters like that who mix ranged and melee attacks.
Quote:Even gadget guys like Batman, you're limited to their hand to hand capabilities only for the most part. -

Ever since Marauder got booted to Lambda Sector, Dominatrix has gotten the prestigious job of guarding the Magisterium. Bet on fighting her before we can get to Cole.

Quote:From what I can tell, Serene poked a hole between planes to get to the Apparitions to not only unleash them on First Ward and start making people miserable, but also to use them to bind Diabolique, who she would sacrifice so she could bind the Furies to her will.Okay, that makes sense. When she referred to the world mirroring Praetoria, I was naturally inclined to think of Primal Earth (the mirror universe) rather than the more literal interpretation of her term "spirit world".
I'd still like to learn why the Vortex suddenly appeared (is it something to do with Serene and the Talons of Vengeance?) and what its apparent relationship is with the Apparitions. But your explanation clears things up.
EDIT: Although, I'm not really sure on that part where Serene just lets them loose on the citizens for whatever reason. Really, Serene just seems to hate everyone's guts. -
Quote:Diabolique explicitly says that the Vortex is a portal into 'this' (Praetorian Earth's) spirit world, much like how the fairy circles in Croatoa lead to Primal Earth's spirit world. She may be nuts, but she's not smoking anything. You can even see the same yellow-gold haze associated with CoH's interpretation of those places when you see through the Apparition's memory as you do in Croatoa. The biggest issue, though- What the heck is the Vortex? No one seems to know. The closest we come to finding out is a line Diabolique lets slip that it connects First Ward/Praetoria to its spirit world mirror (Primal Earth?). Of course, she seems to indicate that the Apparitions came through the Vortex, but almost immediately after that we learn their origins are distinctly Praetorian, so she may be smoking something.
Was hoping rerunning FW's arcs would clarify that for me, but it doesn't appear I missed anything on the first run through.
I'm wondering if it will connect with Dark Astoria and Diabolique's role in that zone's revamp? -
Quote:Versions of this guy have been around for over a couple of decades. Not sure what to think of the magic carpet. Doesn't seem to really be comic book themed. I like it because it's random and silly. And I don't like it for the exact same reason. ><
-
Quote:HD's appearances are not random. In my limited experience, the number one place this trial fails is right after the first phase where you have just defeated Maelstrom inside and have to boost signals in random buildings while the psychics are outside.
In Phase 2, HD appears in the Main Building. That's the building in the center of the map.
Starting with Phase 3, HD appears in these buildings on the following cycle:
TPN Today (the building with purple lights) ==> Main Building ==> VisualCom (that third building)
I believe Phase 4 restarts the cycle. In any case, once you get booted out of a given building, you can immediately proceed to the next and wait for it to open up. -
The person(s) responsible were able to send one or two messages across the entire server claiming that they warned development of the security flaws in the system. I believe someone challenged him or her to show off just how much control they claimed to have, and he or she proceeded to lock the server up, or something to the effect.

What this says to me is that you shouldn't bother doing either, really.

We had a thread line this around this time [url="http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=243232&highlight=plot+thread&page =5"] last year.
There was another one much like it that was much larger. A redname commented in it.
I can't remember who it was or what the thread was called.
Everything that's been posted in this thread was posted in it. -
Personally, I find it usually helps out a lot if my view is always pointing forward in the direction I'm traveling. This allows for finer side-to-side control and I don't have to 'guess' which direction to press to stay on the track.
