Something just bounced out of the back of my head and made me curious.
By any chance do you have a proxy set in Internet Explorer? I recall reading that the Launcher uses IE settings to connect to the update servers and can't connect if there is a proxy configured.
I know several people that use Firefox or Chrome instead and purposely put either a fake proxy address or a loopback address (127.0.0.1) to keep IE from being able to access the web at all. Since they use a different browser, they can get to other websites, download files, and do all sorts of "normal" internet connected things and never give another thought to those settings in IE.
What triggered this is that I was setting loopback proxies in one of the GP's on our domain that is specifically used for students whose parents refuse to sign our Internet Usage release form (they can still log on to the computer to do their work, just not access the internet) or those that have had their internet privileges removed for disciplinary reasons. A few minutes ago while making my daily log entries for work, the proxy issue popped from the back of my brain to the front.
Just a thought. -
Quote:I'm not asking you to be a bug tester. I don't recall seeing anyone else suggest that either.Am I a paid bug tester, Texas? I took it as far as I could. Even though you offer help this game is owned by Ncsoft/Paragon/Crpytic(ip only).
20/20 vision here, ok? I played the game a lot....some months I was doing more than 65 hours.
The game was fun at sub 50, okay?
All I'm asking for is some information about the bug you mentioned since it isn't something I've heard of, and someone else might mention it sometime. I'd prefer not to say "well, I've heard a report about some bug with the cooldown timer and incarnate slots but I don't have any other information so I'm not sure if it's the same problem".
You asked someone earlier why they thought they could fix it if official support couldn't. We've had several examples over the years of support not knowing the solution to a problem that players already knew the solution for. One example would be the WindowBlinds program not allowing the game to start. Another would be the drivers for Wacom graphics tablets conflicting and not letting the game start. Those are just two examples I can recall off the top of my head that official support didn't know how to resolve but players did know how.
You also asked them why they care if they aren't NCSoft employees. Several of us care about helping others, even if we aren't NCSoft employees. It's been that way since the original forums. The original forum moderators were other forum members that volunteered their time to help others. One of them has had his character put into the game in the tutorial after he died. I'm fairly sure you've seen Coyote in the hero tutorial. Just one example of someone that cared about helping others, even though he wasn't an NCSoft (or Cryptic at that time) employee.
Some of us just enjoy helping others. Some of us just enjoy solving technical problems. That's why I do Technical Support for a living, and did it on the side before it was my job, I just like digging through things and finding a solution.
I'm trying really hard here to be helpful. Even if you won't allow me to try to help you, I'd at least like to know what the bug is so that I can try to help other players in the future. -
Still unable to send to myself. Underscores, spaces, no spaces (Roderick is correct that the system would not be able to distinguish @Texas Justice and @TexasJustice), quotation marks around the entire thing, quotation marks after the @ and surrounding Texas Justice were all tried. Nothing works.
If pohsyb were still with Paragon Studios, I'd send him a PM. Since he's having fun working at Apple, I won't bother him. Not sure if The Television would be best for sending this to or one of the Arbiters. -
Quote:I can't see any of your tickets so that doesn't help.Go through my ticket history or talk to GM LLoyd or Grackle. It's a miracle we're still talking. I thought my sub already ended.
I want to say this again. This was a fun game but I was due for a change. I'm trying to be as positive as I can in my final communication. I did try very hard to resolve my issues before I resigned
Specifically,
- I bought a 20,000k Custom HP 8740w Mobile Workstation(QuadCore Extreme) with 32GB of Ram and 2GB of Video.
- I installed a Business Class Verizon Fios 150 MB FTTH Line
- I played the game at all different times to minimize disconnects during trials.
I wish you all the best.
GM Lloyd, Grackle and any other support staff are not allowed to discuss anything related to other players with us, just as the forum rules do not allow us to make public any private communication with any NCSoft employees be they Devs, OCR team members, support staff, GM's, Moderators, or any other position without their permission. So that doesn't help either.
I don't understand why you won't discuss what you consider to be a bug while making comments like this one:
If you will explain what that cooldown timer bug is, perhaps we can help. Perhaps not. I know of several times that people have worked with the GM staff or support staff and not been able to resolve a problem but other players were able to help resolve it when they posted about it.
If someone else mentions it after you've told us about it, we won't be answering with comments similar to "As far as I know there is no cooldown bug."
If you aren't willing to discuss things with people that are trying to help you or possibly help others in the future, I really don't know what to say. -
Tell us more about this bug. Since Ironblade and I both spend quite a bit of time in the Gameplay / Technical Issues and Bugs section helping players with problems (and possibly several others that have posted in this thread as well), it would be beneficial to know what you are talking about in case others bring up the same item.
The more detail you can give about it the better. It may also help anyone on the Dev team that reads it to be able to reproduce the issue. Several of us have been known to send PM's to the Dev team when a good write up about a problem is posted, just to make sure that they are aware of it and possible steps for them to reproduce it. -
I probably wouldn't have thought about it if it hadn't been that I'm preparing a new image for the computers for our Digital Graphics classes and had to go get a Wacom tablet from that lab in order to load the drivers.
It's going to be a radically different class for them this year. Going to CS5 (from CS2) and to Windows 7 (from Windows XP).
The instructor keeps giving me dirty looks every time she sees the computer I'm preparing the image on.
If it hadn't been for having to go get the tablets and them jogging my memory, I likely wouldn't have remembered there having been a Wacom issue in the past. -
Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha.
And that wasn't for the video either. -
Just finished logging out or I'd try that, but I suspect it would fail since the @ is part of the string for the global name.
I'll give it a try tomorrow. I've already filed a /bug report in game with the information in my previous post. -
There is apparently a flaw with the /emailsendattachment command and how it parses text.
If you put the global name in quotes due to it containing a space it is interpreting it as being sent to multiple recipients.
If you don't put the global name in quotes it doesn't appear to be sending it at all. My inf value didn't change when I sent it without quotes and I got no error messages. Since my global name is @Texas Justice I can't send inf using the emailsendattachment slash command.
I also can't seem to get the /emailsend to work either and I get no error messages there.
Seems to be bugged. -
-
Remember, when sending attachments through email that is has to be sent to the Global Name, not the character name.

Beastyle has also been known to participate in PvP in the arena.

Quote:That Boss is actually nearer to you than the Hellion you clicked on. Target Next has always gone to the target that is the Next one farther away by distance from your current target.Targeting has been broken since Issue 1. Click on hellion, ok there's a boss next to him, click tab and voila! You targeted the hellion 300 yds across the map meanwhile the Damned Damned is still bearing down on you. I know for certainty that this is NOT how next is calculated on powers like cinders, targeted AoE powers or Taunt that counts 15 targets to be affected in range of the target. CoH uses two different rules for 'Next' and one of them has NOTHING to do with usage of the English language.
Target Nearest is the one to use when trying to get to the Target that is bearing down on you, assuming that no other target is closer to you. If there is one, it is simple to hit Target Next from that point to cycle through the targets by distance.
Targeted powers like cinders or targeted AOE powers don't use the Target Next feature. They target from the location of the attack out through the range of the power up to the maximum targets that can be affected by that power. -
The big draw of HeroCon, for me at least and I suspect sor several others as well, was getting to meet and hang out with other players from our server and from the forums. Some of this was during the official events, but much of it was outside of the official events, be it player organized meals, players going sight-seeing, player organized after-parties in the players rooms, hanging out in the bars and lounges of the hotels during events that the player wasn't interested in attending.
Sure, it was nice getting to meet and chat with the Devs and OCR people, especially when they joined in some of the player organized stuff mentioned above or just hanging out in the lounges and bars.
But the part that was most enjoyable was meeting the players I'd been talking to for years in the games or on the forums and getting to spend time just visiting with them. Even with some of the generic NCSoft Meet n Greets that have been held in Texas I've enjoyed just meeting the other players, especially some of the more notable forum personalities such as Bill Z Bubba, or Moggie from Virtue, or Rowr.
You can't really simulate some of the personal interactions in the same way during a server event.
And, as Aggelakis points out, much of that is what generally happens during the anniversary events. -
This has since been posted in the Gameplay / Technical Issue and Bugs forums.

It is not a default folder created by the installation of the game.
Quote:Installation:
Extract the zip to your CoX folder with the suggested path. If the folders do not exist, you must create them. Fear not! This will not alter your actual CoX installation (like Vidiot Maps). Exit the game, relaunch.
32-bit Windows:
C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\data\texture_library\GUI\Cursors\
64-bit Windows:
C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\data\texture_library\GUI\Cursors\
Enjoy! -

be that as it may... is anyone looking into the fact that the team status windows are not displaying player health and that as a healer it is really hard to play without knowing when someone is dead or in need of heals, etc?
I started looking into it but I got rather bored with it. And since I don't team, it really wasn't a priority.
I decided to leave it to one of the other players that participates in teaming to look into it.
To the best of my knowledge, none of the other players has taken an interest in looking into it. -
I remembered that there was some kind of problem, but couldn't remember exactly what it was. Thanks for refreshing my memory Mandu.

Edit: In the Freedom model that is coming Soon™ there are three types of players.
VIP: Paying a subscription fee.
Premium: 2 Methods to being a Premium.
1. Has paid a subscription fee in the past but is not currently paying a subscription fee.
2. Has purchased Paragon Points from the Paragon Store.
Free: Has never paid a subscription fee and has never bought any Paragon Points. -
I noticed that you have the Wacom Tablet Service running. I seem to recall a problem with Wacom tablets or their drivers causing problems with CoH some time ago, although I can't recall the details. Since I recognize Power Stream's name from the Art forumz, it's possible that this is something you have in common.
I do know that the Wacom tablets used in my school district are USB, so that would fit with Power Stream remembering it saying something about USB.
Perhaps that will trigger someone's memory that is a bit better than mine. -
Quote:Since this is happening on two different computers, I'd start by looking at things that the two computers have in common. For instance, if one has Spybot installed but the other doesn't, I wouldn't be looking at Spybot right away. But if both have, for example only, Zone Alarm installed, I'd be looking at the Zone Alarm settings before things that aren't common to the two computers. This seems to imply that it is a problem with your computer settings which is keeping the Launcher from updating itself and updating the game.
I would check network settings, firewall settings, any anti-virus settings, any anti-malware/spyware software you may have installed, etc. -

Which I got under an alias as well. So I now have an anonymous Facebook page for an anonymous account for an anonymous video game. I'm pretty sure if I am caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of my actions.

Quote:Don't try to Upgrade Account. Click the User Serial Code link at the top of the far right-hand box. This is on the first page after logging in. It is in the same location on the page after clicking on your game account.Got a code, entered it, got this message...
"The supplied serial code is valid, but it can not be used to create a new account and it can not be applied to any accounts you already have."
Got that both from attempting to apply from the NC master account screen, and from the "Upgrade Account" option for my CoH account.

Quote:To me, the subscription price IS worth it. Not so I can make a character on an exclusive server. I only play on Justice as it is. Not so I don't have to deal with "the little people" as you put it, a term I find rather insulting to free players. I just feel comfortable with the people on Justice. It's "home".Wow...you certainly do gain by continuing to pay there. You also get exclusive access to a VIP only server so you don't have to deal with us little people. You get exlusive access to the forums so you don't have to talk to the little people. And you stay in good graces with all the paying costumers that have not a clue how this is going to work at the end of the day.
And for the new low cost of nothing...I get almost all that and no bill and I still can level up 1-50, play my MM and my controller, get 7 slots per server and call it a day. Wow, I am telling you, that 15 bucks you are shelling out is really worth it at the end of the day.
I enjoy talking to people on the forums, and in the Global Channels I'm a member of (one item you didn't mention so I will), even trial players. I spend quite a bit of time in the Gameplay/Technical Issues and Bugs section, trying to help other players, be they subscribers or trial accounts. That's one thing I'd like to see changed in Freedom is to give Free and Premium players a section of the forums to ask game questions in, ask Technical questions in, and be able to get help from other players. It would need additional moderation, but I've never been satisfied with the way the current forums are moderated. Too uneven for my tastes.
I've met several really nice people through the forums and Global Channels. Some I've had the pleasure to meet in person (waves to Red Gren). Why would I not want to continue talking to the people I've talked to for over seven years? Sure, the other servers have some great people on them as well. Some of them I've even met and enjoyed getting to know a little. I've run into some I consider jerks as well, but it's easy for me to avoid them if I want.
I even enjoy talking to people when it's a situation like this one. Nothing you've said has really offended me to a point that I think you aren't a person I'd enjoy talking to more. I just don't agree with some of your viewpoints on this and I've tried to show where I believe you are wrong in some of them. Doesn't mean I'm not enjoying talking to you. If I wasn't enjoying talking to you, I'd be done with the conversation and with you entirely. That's not happened, and unless you take a really nasty turn and start in with some strong personal attacks, I don't think it's going to happen.
Being able to interact with other players is one of the things that has kept me subscribed all this time. It's not the only thing, but it's been one of the really important things. Even when I've gotten burned out a bit on playing the game, I've kept logging in to talk to people in the channels and kept coming to the forum to talk to them.
To me, it's all been worth it and I see nothing changing that for now. There are some other things that have me considering unsubscribing, but I've kept on mostly for the interactions in the channels and on the forums with friends I've made over the years. But that's a story for a different venue than these forums or this thread.
When it becomes not worth it, I'll unsubscribe. -
