It is possible that the issues you are having with different drivers may be cleared up by running the driver sweeper tool. That's why I asked and many helpful players here on the forums will ask the same thing.
It is also possible that your laptop will only work properly with the video drivers from ASUS. In which case, you need to ask them for newer drivers.
So, the game ran fine before the patch last week? And if you are crashing, are you sending in the crash reports? We do look at them and they have useful information for us to analyze and fix crashes. -
Julia_NA, have you tried the driver sweeper as I described in my previous post?
Airhammer, you are having a different problem and should start a new thread. The players in this thread have been locked out of the game and are trying to get back into the game. You might want to check[Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums. -
In NCsoft Launcher, right click on the game and select Properties. In the Extra Command Line Parameters (Advanced), put:
-maxinactivefps 5
and hit OK. Now, when you run two clients, the one(s) in the background (the one(s) which do not have focus) will reduce their rendering to allow the client in the foreground (the one with focus) to have more GPU resources. -
You could try deleting or renaming the addcache.xml file in your CoH folder.
-
MajorDecoy, if you want to set your Launcher to German, in the Launcher go to File->Settings and then to the Advanced tab and make sure the Region is set to either "North America" or "Europe" and the Language set to "German".
This should make the Launcher start the game with the German language options. -
It could be a problem with the graphics of one of your characters causing the game to crash at the character selection screen. And none of your girlfriend's characters have this problem.
You could try the game's safe mode and also make sure you are not using one of the problematic video card drivers. -
Were you previously using the -maxinactivefps feature and perhaps it was lost after restoring your computer?

Quote:If you have the 11.1 Catalyst drivers properly installed, you should never see this issue. If you are still seeing this issue after today's patch, I believe your drivers may not be properly installed and you may need to use a driver sweeper to resolve your problem.I just read the known issues in announcements. My Catalyst version is 11.1 that's what ASUS currently has up for DL and it wont let me in so its not limited to 9.12 drivers.
If you've used a driver sweeper (uninstall current video drivers, reboot into safe mode, run driver sweeper, reboot, re-install drivers) and continue to have this problem, then try adding the -ignoreBadDriver argument like Neo Shadowdream described. -

Unfortunately, I will not be at the Freedom Player Summit. I already have other obligations (like coaching my son's soccer team).
Thanks for the invitation and I'll have to take you up on the beverage some other time. -
Quote:I don't think I was ever introduced.I just want to point out that Tex is a glorified forum user, a volunteer tech head, not a developer hired on to Paragon Studios. Or at least, that's what he was introduced as, I don't know if his status has changed since then.
I've been a programmer on City of Heroes since before I17 working on mainly graphics related stuff (like Ultra Mode features).
I've been doing games programming for over 10 years now, and before that, I worked on NASA projects for over 5 years, specifically for the Space Shuttle and Space Station. -
First, try the "Repair (Consistency Check)" on the test server (right click on "CITY OF HEROES TEST" in the Launcher to find this option).
Second, try the game's safe mode (right click on the game in the Launcher and select "Properties" and check the "Launch in Safe Mode" box).
Third, make sure you are using recent graphics drivers. If you have a video card with an AMD/ATI GPU, the Catalyst drivers before 11.9 have had issues with the game. -
Sounds like a network connectivity issues. She should try contacting Support (see my sig.

If it always happens around midnight every night, it may be an automatic service running, like defrag or antivirus check.

I don't see the text from the "View Last Error" above. Could you post it again?
-
The ~PS folder which might be in her CityOfHeroes folder (C:\Program Files\NCsoft\CityOfHeroes or C:\Program Files (x86)\NCsoft\CityOfHeroes).
Also, if she right clicks on the game in the Launcher and selects "View Last Error", what does it show? -
Has she tried the Repair option?
Also, if she has a ~PS folder in her CityOfHeroes folder, try deleting the ~PS folder.
If the above solutions don't work, you should try contacting Support (see my sig) -
I'm glad you were able to get it working. And I don't need any kids named after me.

That's probably the 'Depth of Field' effect. Try turning that off in the advanced graphics options if you don't care for that effect.

atioglxx.dll is part of the OpenGL drivers for your video card and it sounds like it is not getting updated properly. I think a safer course of action would be to try one of the driver sweeper tools.
-
That may not be enough free space to download and install stage 4. Try freeing up some hard-drive space.
-
How much free disk space do you have?
-
It is most likely an issue with your video card drivers. Which video card and which drivers are you using?
-
The issue is with your video card drivers:
Video Device Name: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
Manufacturer / Chip: ATI Technologies Inc. / ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (0x7145)
Video Memory: 256.0 MB
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6618
Driver Date: 5/23/2006 11:06:54 PM
