  1. I'm pondering pairing it with Pain, Poison, or Thermal. I won't actually be doing anything but pondering it until GR comes out and I can avoid the doldrums of playing Redside.

I wouldn't call those "completely different to any other control set." AoE sleeps abound, and the latter ability seems similar to Hot Feet.

I'm curious as to what they are going to do that will be so different, myself, and whether it will be different enough to distract me from the Kinetic Melee set.
  3. I like some of the shininess of UM, but it doesn't seem to be that big of a change, really. I suppose I was expecting the shininess to extend to more of the environment than just AE's windows and the water.

There seems to be some minor issue with shiny costume pieces displaying in the character creation/tailor screen, too. They look a bit dark/muddy compared to how they look in the game world. As if the shininess is not displaying in that screen, possibly because of a lack of light source?

I like the animated tails and their seperation from belts, though.
  4. I like that the shiny graphics don't kill my performance like I thought they would.

And while I'm not going to use it until GR comes out and I can avoid redside, I'll pre-emptively assert that I like the Demon Summoning set.
  5. I propose two new things to do at crafting tables:

    Repurposeing

This would allow you to break down rare salvage into uncommon, and uncommon into common (keeping within the same type - Arcane/Tech). Perhaps granting more than one piece of lesser salvage in the process.

It would also allow you to go the other direction and use several pieces of common or uncommon salvage to create one piece of salvage of the next rarer tier.

It might even allow converting two or more pieces of rare/uncommon/common salvage into another piece of salvage of the same type and rarity.

    Experimentation

The mad scientist/wizard at work. This would simply allow you to use several pieces of salvage to create a random recipe. Number, rarity, and type could affect the chances.

Many people have a tendency to focus on the negative without dwelling as much on the positive. I'm probably guilty of this, myself, having noted elsewhere on the board that I'm a horrible, cynical excuse for a human being. Suffice to say that I have played many MMORPGs over the last decade or so, and this is the only one to have consistently held my subscription. I believe I have purchased every expansion pack for the game, including getting the Mac version even though I do not have a Mac. If I am a bit... enthusiastic about changes I would like to see or things I think are wrong with the game, it is because I like the game and see the potential to like it even more. If I didn't like the game (and, believe it or not, the community, including most everyone I've butted heads with over the years) I wouldn't still be around.

Later, I greatly enjoyed leading such Perez Park Parades myself.

Sadly, such is no longer possible.

    2. He/she wants to sell some or all of them on the market to finance other characters.
    3. He/she spent gratuitous amounts of time/inf/merits/effort on various sets and now wishes to use different sets without all of said t/i/m/e going to waste. Thus, selling them on the market to recoup some losses while rebuilding the self-same character. Which wouldn't be an issue if the IOs weren't ultimately overpriced (or, if said prices are considered fair, the amount recouped for lost enhancements during respec more closely matched that "fair" price). Less likely, but a possibility. And such a person might look into using the alternate build for such experiments in character building if it's not already in use by them.

    Demon Summoning

Last I heard that is what was supposed to happen. The set was in the open beta and everything and I've heard of no delays for it.

Yes, it would typically take longer for them to level up (it already does), but it wouldn't take as long as it does now, because they'd have to worry about endurance a lot less. In fact, if the extremely high levels of damage of your average Scrapper or Blaster came at the cost of extremely high endurance burn while lower damage values came with lower burn, I'd be satisfied. I might actually play a Tanker for a change, too.

You know, I've been here a long time. I've seen a lot of people basically give up on Tankers, and the reason is usually the same: "I can't kill anything without running out of endurance." This is a problem that I don't expect to ever see addressed unless we start balancing on damage DEALT to endurance used, rather than on damage MOD to endurance.
Very good point. I have noticed the Endurance problems more while playing Defenders, Controllers, and Tankers solo (most especially pre-20) and that's probably why.

I dispute the amount of time and effort it takes to outfit a character with IOs, and more specifically with merits I dispute the kind of time and effort it requires. But nowhere did I say it shouldn't take any.

I was looking forward to ChO, but I was under no illusion that it would necessarily be a "promised land." I have too much experience with such promises not panning out. This game, for instance, didn't deliver what was initially being "promised." And ChO failed to do so to the extent that I could not replace this game with that one and thus came back here.

And I do not dislike this game. I know that it is hard for some of you to wrap your minds around the concept (whether they're small minds or it's a broad concept is not for me to say), but it is quite possible to dislike some things about a game and still like the game itself. It is not a binary situation.

And yes, Sam, I used the term "fuddy-duddies" - there are a number of people around here who seem to be largely anti-fun and who vehemently spit upon any idea that threatens tedium in the game, though I wouldn't call them a clique. Occasionally, they may have a point, but I'd say a large part of Bill's copy-paste is pointless. There's a minor point in Archetype switching (which I would counter by having a requirement for a full character change be having a character of the desired AT at level 40 or 50), and the main point that the Devs have said no. Other than that it's essentially a long-winded bit of over-referenced horn-tooting. And it is kind of dismissively rude, as well, like replying to someone with a form letter.

And to whoever was neg-repping (more please! my sig will love you for it) on me grousing over Regen being "nerfed" - I don't care that it was nerfed so much as the play style was forcibly changed for me. I went into it for viable passive Regen and it got shifted to being necessarily more click-intensive. When Going Rogue comes out (which I prepurchased ASAP because I do not, in fact, hate the game) I plan on finally rerolling the character as Kinetic Melee/Willpower. The "Tai Chi" style fits him more, too, so I'll finally have enough reason to start him over.

And finally, the first 20 levels or so of this game aren't "friendly", alt- or otherwise. If said levels ever cease to feel like a tedious twently levels worth of character creation, I'll cease to be annoyed with trudging through them.

I'm doomed to never have a good day since I don't have a bed.
  15. Graphically, the game was moving smoothly for me. I would click a power and it would go off, then I'd hit the next power in my attack chain and it would take awhile as the game allowed other characters' attacks to go off before coming back around to me. All the while the game would be running smoothly graphically, though. Definitely a lag in communication.
  16. I tried it for a bit, but it was like a turn-based RPG with far too many turns being taken. Unfortunately, in the zones it was going on it was difficult to get a team that wasn't doing the useless GM fighting, so I had to retreat to Steel Canyon.

I still haven't "rerolled" my MA/Regen Scrapper as a MA/WP. First they made changes which killed Regen for me, then they made WP which was more what I wanted in the first place. Yet my Scrapper still sits there languishing at level 35? or so, because I don't want to take that particular character through those 35 levels again. I'd like to play him all the way up to 50, but I can't stand Regen for very long these days.

It's not really a *bad* idea. I'd go for it. But it's largely rejected by the fuddy-duddies around here due to the largely terrible reasons in Bill's copy-paste, and unlikely to get implemented in any case due to the only important statement in Bill's copy-paste - that the devs have unequivocally said "no".

How many KHTFs should it take to get an LotG from Merits alone?

You get the idea. Feel free to assume 4 hours of play per day as a general figure, running nothing but back to back TFs, just to get a base on some numbers.

Sure, nothing may come of it (since IOs are optional content) but I'm just curious as to the thought process behind any figures that may materialize.
Well, to start with I don't think you should have to do TFs at all. Nor do I think one should have to play for a significant time on a daily basis to have a chance at getting them in a timely fashion. I would say that 8 hours of play should easily be enough to acquire at least one full set (that's one set, not one character's worth of sets) of any level-appropriate non-purple IOs. And that's doing any non-AE missions, not just TFs and story arcs.

If I take it, I'll give it to them when I deem it necessary and/or proper. The more often they ask for it/demand it the less necessary/proper I will deem the bestowment.

Especially if they're asking for it while I'm cycling buffs down/up the team list and they're at the bottom/top of the list. Or if they're already under the influence of said buff.

Well, I don't consider myself a "noob" Mastermind, but I'm definitely a lazy Mastermind who doesn't micromanage the control of his pets (I will, however, spread around buffs and such to the team if I have them and the End to spare).

If they're creating a blockage I might tell them to move to a particular spot to get out of the way. Of course, half the time they don't listen and just stand there dumbly blocking the way until I dismiss and resummon them. Could be that's improved since last I played one.

I came to thoroughly dislike playing redside and haven't been there for awhile. I have a Fire/Rad Controller named Sympathetic Devil who I'm thinking of rerolling as a Blueside-bound Demon/something Mastermind when Going Rogue comes out.
  21. I don't tend to actively pursue badges, but of the three choices they would have to be what I've gotten the most "use" out of simply because I get several of them without specifically going for them.

I don't do AE missions except in the rare (these days) case that I get invited to a PuG that happens to be doing them. And building the missions is a painfully dull process that I just can't get into.

PvP is something I avoid like the plague in almost every game I play, and CoH is no exception.

Don't have time to run task forces a lot? Okay, run some Ouro arcs or maybe a few regular contact arcs. Sure, the merit gain won't be as high as someone who runs a lot of TFs, but it isn't supposed to be.
That's not really a nice thing. A nice thing would be if they were accumulated doing any given non-AE PuG content.
