  1. I'm hoping there'll be a marked improvement when I get to SO-level, but up to level 21 Demons/Thermal has seemed relatively squishy. Certainly moreso than I expected.

Only if you assume the game is going to go on forever. Ultimately, given the more realistic view that the game will inevitably end, it is unfair to anyone who wasn't able to get on the bandwagon from the start. And the longer the game goes on and the more vet rewards that are added the more unfair it becomes to latecomers. So not only is the system unfair, it becomes more unfair as time goes on.
  3. Alright, after finishing the series I watched the movie... the movie was mean in a Whedon-ly character-killing way. I wanted to simultaneously give it 2 and 4 stars afterward.
  4. When the series first came out I was interested, I figured "Cowboys in space! That's gotta be awesome!" but the first episode aired on FOX didn't grab me, and further attempts to watch it were hampered by schedule juggling and, as I recall, it getting pre-empted by sports or something, so I gave up.

Since it recently came up on Netflix streaming I decided to finally give it a fair go. And in the proper viewing order, too, since as I understand it the first episode FOX aired wasn't the actual first episode. Had FOX aired the actual first episode first it would have grabbed my attention much better.

Yeah, I'm years late to the party, but now I get to finally experience the regret that it got terribly mishandled and only went for one season. And as I'm a few episodes from the end, I'm already experiencing the regret.

The worst part is, I don't get to say "Why didn't anyone tell me about this"...

They do get to experience the nasty side effect of the servers getting taken down in an unscheduled manner to resolve it, though.

Not really a huge deal, just annoying until it's fixed.
This would only be viable if character names were game-wide rather than server-specific.

I know I can't make any new Praetorians on any of the servers I actually play on, and given the rampant altitis here, that probably goes for a lot of folks.

    Grrr... Arg....
I wholeheartedly agree. Being unable to make a Praetorian character on my preferred server, upon which I have lavished numerous extra slots, is quite a problem.

According to Spelljammer.org Toril is a Size E planet, which means it has a diameter of 4,000 to 10,000 miles. I believe this makes it similar in size to the Earth.
  10. I love the Doctor Who webcomics over at comics.shipsinker.com - The Ten Doctors was a great multi-Doctor story, the crossover with Forever Knight was oddly interesting, and currently he's doing a crossover story with Jem of all things.

  12. If I recall correctly, ever since No Man's Land we can blame the Joker's continued existence on Commissioner Gordon.

As would Grey Gargoyle vs. the Gargoyles...

A Power Pack/Rescue Rangers (featuring Man-Thing) crossover might have been neat...

At the time I didn't feel like trying to get this work computer to churn up an image from the internet abyss. But now that I have: the page in the link was pretty abysmal to look at, and didn't contain much in the way of humour. The writing might prove good in larger samples, but I wouldn't be able to read it for the horrible art.

It seems at this point you're just going to hate it because Michael Cera is in it rather than give the movie an opportunity to prove you wrong.
I'm pretty sure I indicated as much. "It's a movie starring that guy I want to punch. I doubt there's anything about the movie you could tell me which would influence me more than that."

But I'll probably give it a chance eventually. Just not in theatres, and not before I've seen The Expendables.

But I don't know why we're talking about ND.
Because, aside from the action bits, the trailers have given me the same sense of stilted anti-humour that I got from Napolean Dynamite.

    Quote:
Arrested Development is the best comedy on TV in the past decade. You should really look into it. It's Cera's first role, I believe. Certainly his first mainstream recognition. But the show is an ensemble cast with very little Cera in it. So again, don't let that hangup prevent you. And it is quite a hangup... Like he stole your puppy when you were but a youngster and you have vowed revenge in the name of Mr. Snuggles.
He just really irritates me. But he had nothing to do with my avoidance of Arrested Development - the episode or two I saw of it which completely failed to capture my interest caused that.

Putting aside that I've been told that the comic/graphic novel is filled with horrible art, even if I read and liked the graphic novel casting a loathsome person in a "loveable" role is Epic Failure.

The movie is directed by Edgar Wright, director and writer of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, two movies that were never short on the action, if that is really all your worried about.
I didn't see Hot Fuzz since the trailers didn't make it seem appealing. Shaun of the Dead was okay, but action or a lack thereof isn't necessarily important to me. Entertainment is my goal.

    Quote:
Mostly, the reason to watch Scott Pilgrim is because it's directed exactly at us. We're their audience. The humor hits me right in the sweet spot, and everyone that I have recommended the book to also loved it.
I haven't seen anything particularly humorous in the trailers. However, if you're one of those people who thought Napolean Dynamite was hilarious then we're not on the same humour wavelength.

As for your Michael Cera concerns... He was great in Arrested Development.
I didn't watch much of the show because what I did see of it left me completely uninterested in seeing more. I couldn't even have told you Michael Cera was in it.

Interesting. I read the book afterwards and was surprised by how similar the anime remained. It wasn't as wild a departure as I might have expected.

Let's not cloud the issue with race. From a pragmatic standpoint, any human beings of substandard technological advancement could be said to NOT be a valuable resource to the collective planet. Certainly nowhere near as valuable as greatly advanced technologies would be. Indeed, from a historical viewpoint I believe more often than not that a more advanced civilisation would be prone to push aside/kill/exploit the less advanced people and take their land, which would be the real valuable resource.

The point, I'd say, is that the aliens had a valuable resource that could start wars and thus realistically the greater world powers would almost certainly have stepped in and handled the situation to keep it from getting out of hand. I guess the movie was trying so hard to be a thought-provoking metaphor that such considerations fell to the wayside.

    Quote:
At the end of the film, the audience is left wondering “What will happen if/when Chris gets to where he is going? What will the other aliens do about our treatment of these on Earth?” This is the “thought provoking” part that I mentioned before.
Or it might have been thought-provoking if it was worth caring about. But given how irredeemably monstrous humanity is presented, who cares if they are wiped off the face of the planet. Hell, at that point everything in the universe could have died and I would have been downright apathetic about it.
